[Q] XZ Rebooting with ES File Explorer - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My XZ's been rebooting whenever I enter ES File Explorer. Is there a reason for this? Here's some background on what I did before this started happening:
1. I rooted my phone using goroh_kun's method
2. Renamed /data/usf to usf1 (NFC Fix)
3. Flashed CWM
4. Did a backup to external SD
5. Tried to change build.prop (DPI) and realized that my XZ will reboot once I'm in the ES File Explorer app for about 10+ seconds. Doesn't matter which directory I'm in.
Has anyone else experienced this?

You have to root using bin4ry method,it has a fix for this kind of reboot.

Oh snap. So I have to redo the root method huh. Do I flash a new firmware first? :/

Did you manage to get this sorted?
Mine still reboots.

I'm using ES File explorer as well on unrooted XZ and I have no reboots.

You can now root using the bin4ry method to ensure a root that does not reboot your phone.

I'm not sure if CWM causes it. I've actually re-did the rooting a few times using Bin4ry's method and there's no problem when using ES File Explorer. This seems to have happened only after installing CWM. I'm gonna try and use TWRP and see how it goes.
EDIT: TWRP doesn't change anything. For some reason, the 2nd time I did the whole rooting process (with Bin4ry's tool), ES File Explorer did not restart the phone. I repaired my phone software using PC Companion and did the root again and this time, it seems to be crapping out again. No idea why though. I tested it right after rooting and there were no issues. This only happened after installing CWM so I'm not sure if installing that seems to have messed stuff up.
EDIT2: I followed this guy's advice and did a factory reset. I re-rooted with Bin4ry's v26 Tool and installed TWRP instead of CWM. ES File Explorer doesn't restart anymore If you've done the same using CWM, I'd say drop CWM and use TWRP for now until something's fixed.

Root explorer issues

I recent just bought a nook. flawlessly rooted it and overclocked it. Now I'm trying to do the adhoc fix using root explorer. However root explorer refuses to switch from read only to read and write. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and wiping data using titanium back up any suggestions other than adb

In Root Explorer, near the top just after the words "Mounted as r/o" there is a button to push (It says: "Mount R/W"). That will give you read & write access. It took me a while to notice that button at first.
Dahsar, that button may very well not be your problem and I do not want to insult you with this post but maybe there is someone else out there that needs this info.
Good luck with it.
I had this problem before. For whatever reason, I had to open up busybox installer and did a re-install, then the root explorer worked.

Even after pressing the little button in root explorer. It still wouldn't change however reinstalling busybox was the answer thank you

[Q] Full root CF LPY?

I have LPY running with the CF kernel which was flashed via mobile Odin. I have root access for programs like Titanium, but I cannot delete items from my system/apps folder. I use ES File Explorer with the options checked for root access and for rw on root. I figured it was just an issue with the kernel but I have been told that full root works for others. Does anybody have any thoughts as to how I could go about getting full root working? I want to delete that pesky GMS_Maps.apk so I can replace it with one with working navigation where I live. Thanks for any help!

Check the "Mounted as button" on top left of Root Explorer and make sure you can switch the system to R/W (read/Write)
It may default to Read/Only
I downloaded root explorer in case that was the issue. I click the rw button when I go into the system folder but no joy. When I press it, nothing happens. The state remains ro and the button remains rw.

Tried reinstalling cwm and su/busybox via cwm and still no dice. Thinking I might just have to live with it until another kernel comes out and I feel safer with all this installing zips in cwm. Still, if anyone has any thoughts, please let me know because it's a bit annoying to me.

It's not LPY, but I seem to have full root again after flashing the newest ics and installing su/busybox using the following:

[Q] root unsuccessful :(

Hi,
the problem is next:
I root my phone (xperia x8) with super one click (successful), i follow the instructions
then i installed root explorer. after that I copy the cwm files and with root explorer i tried to remove it to system/bin
the problem starts here. there wasn't enough space, so I remove 3 files of 4.
after that i uninstall some unimportant apps to get some space.
when I tried to enter root explorer the message appear:
"restart app"
"Root explorer has not yet managed to obtain root accsess because of issuses with superuser, this often happensthe first time the app is run but usually fine from the on Click ok and restart the app to try again make sure you respoding superuser promt"
after that i tried everything:
- reinstall root explorer, restart phone, allow/decline in superuser... no result
- install es file es file explorer, and follow the instructions but no results, can see the system/bin folder but can't manage(copy/paste, cut/paste)
the message when i click root explorer in es file explorer said that the phone is not support.
in meanwhile I noticed that i cannot connect to my wireless network....
after that i tried:
- settings reset, nothing
- factory defaults.
after factory default my phone don't recognize my Sim card, and the wireless still not work.
I don't know what to do.
Can someone please help!

Root your x8 using flahtool then use x8 toolbox to install recovery or cwm (is better) then try to get to cwm and make backup. Chceck mamufacture date and if you can unlock your bootloader then download and install custom kernel and rom

Some apps I've found I had to browse to the external SD card by going mnt/sdcard/external_sd. I don't have my phone on me (getting repaired) so I can't check, but I found it pretty confusing. I had to actually go to my PC and browse to make sure it was actually pointing to the right spot.

Guid to Wifi tethering on Stock I537 rom without need file explorer to turn on

What you need is a rooted i-537 with safstrap installed.
make sure phone is rooted and you have safstrap installed.
prevent you phone from updating itself as shown in the root guide in this forum.
get a copy of the tethering provisioning apk from a custom rom. One that worked for me is attached to this thread.
put the custom tetherprovisiong apk on an external sim card for access. boot into safestrap and make sure stock rom is selected.
mount filesystem then open up safestaps file explorer and delete tetherprovisioning apd and tetherprovisioning odex from system/apps folder. Confirm that it is deleted.
Now paste the custom tetherprovisioning.apk into the same system/apps folder. Reboot phone into stock, rooted rom and enjoy wifi tether.
You should now be able to turn off and on with the normal method.
My phone: SGH-i537
Android version 4.3
Baseband I537UCUBML2
Rooted W/ Safestrap 3.71 installed
Thanks

Can anyone confirm this method works on 4.4.2? I noticed rb8720 is on 4.3
I'm running rooted 4.4.2 and got it to work from this

Cool! Guess i am off to try. Backup in progress.
That was a no go. Cannot mount system in safestrap recovery.
Don't need to. I renamed all the tethering apks/odex files. Moved the apk in the thread I linked to to system/app using root browser. Changed the permissions to 644 and rebooted.

Could not get it to work. Guess i can wait for a method that works.
One thing I did notice was after I renamed all four tethering apks/index files, moved in the exploited apk and rebooted is I got the "upgrading screen" which one can only assume was my phone picking up on the new apk. Let me know if you have any questions,I banged my head on this for days before I found a working method.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Finaly tried your method and it worked like a charm. Never got the upgrade screen on boot up but it works fine. Thanks!
Replaced provision apk and system still says i need to upgrade my plan removed tether automation and system says no data or incorrect sim, at&t unlocked and running tmo/metro, any ideas?
