[Q] What is the SP on this phone? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To save lot's of time researching can someone in the know please tell me the following?
1. Can the Windows file system be mounted as a drive and edited?
2. Can the bootloader be unlocked?
3. Is the IMEI number editable?
4. Is there any such thing as a 'root' for a Windows phone and if so what software do you need and what are the advantages?
Many Thanks.
(Clearly I know s**t about Windows phones!)

No to all 4 of them.
SO far, WP8 is completely unhackable.

Calrion Mobile Map360

Hey Dudes,
I have a really big problem, i bought for my father a navigation system. clarion Map360, but I was so stupid and tried to but a other windows mobile on it. Now I have the problem that I have a blue screen and the navi asked me if I want to upgrade the windows mobile by USB or SD-Card. But I didn`t have the right Image i think.
I need the Winceimg.cks or the whole Image. I hope somebody can help me.
Sorry for my English..

What situation are you in right now?
Did you try to reboot it?
Did you back up the old image before attempting this?
Generally this thing are protected from writing images not belonging to them so unless you selected to format the flash first you may still be ok.
If not, I doubt your unit can be salvaged without a lab since ROM images for PNDs are almost impossible to come by, specially for less popular brands.
My Situation, i think i killed the flash rom, if i start the system normally nothing works, no screen nothing, but when i started with the start and the reboot button i come to the menu with a blue screen.
1. wince upgrade
2. uboot upgrade
3. exit

P.S.: I didn`t backup the Image, but i have the same system Clarion Map360 at home to, thats working. Maybe you can give me tutorial, how to backup the image from the other one, to repair the old one.
Other Question, Is it possible to put a Windows Mobile 5 System on it, to run another GPS Software like TomTom 6
Well sounds like you are in trouble.
You need to look around the menu options. Sometimes with thees devices there is an option to dump the current ROM to SD.
If it exists use it if not you probably need a lab.
You can not put WM 5 or any other Windows Mobile on this device unless:
1) You can get the original ROM
2) Extract all drivers from that ROM
3) Incorporate drivers in Windows Mobile image
4) Package Windows Mobile image to suite your device memory configuration
I other words: mission impossible.
You can try to use the cab at this link to run WM software.
hmm damn.. there is no point for dump rom to sd card... but if its possible to get this rom somewhere in the Internet. maybe somebody have it here in this forum.. because i found a thread but the link to the image is down...

Developer Registration Tool w/o full SDK?

Long story short...I have a legit Windows Phone Developer account and I want to unlock my Lumia 920. I know the unlock tool is part of the WP8 SDK, but the only problem is that the SDK requires Windows 8 64-bit. As of now, the only Windows 8 install I have is on my Samsung tablet, so I can't install it on there since its not 64-bit.
Is there a way to just get the registration tool without installing the 1.5+GB SDK? Or is there a way to do it from Windows 7?

Try this. Idk if it works, but give it a shot anyway! Extract the files and put it in a folder, then run the exe.

unfortunately this doesn't work, as it states we need a zune-connected phone. and the lumia 920 doesn't connect to zune
RE: register phone
Why don't you use a vmware image of windows 8 where you can install the sdk on it. I use the same method as I have a macbook. for win phone 8 dev I use vmware.

I think the zip doesn't work but not because it needs a zune connected phone. Instead the issue is that the tool is probably missing some common files or something like that. It asks to connect the phone to the computer and points at a potential problem with the windows phone passthrough service (although there is no problem because the device can be browsed perfectly fine).
I wish I could at least install a XAP to my WP8 devce on Windows 7...Is THAT even possable ?

Sorry for bumping this old post, but I had been having issues registering/unlocking my Windows Phone 7 Lumia 710 recently to develop.
Using Windows 7 SDKs, the registration tool with it just wasn't working - I was getting the good old "Error logging into the App Hub. Please check your Windows Live ID and password and try again" message.
Even contacting Windows Dev Support couldn't resolve this - apparently its a known issue theyre working on just now!
Long story short, I found this thread - and tried the zip file you linked and it worked! I was able to register my phone through that file instead of the registration tool that came with the SDK. So thank you very much!
Worked for me too. Thanks a bunch !!

I use a Nokia 909, but I guess that it's the same on all Windows Phones.
Microsoft won't allow full access to operating system folders to user or developer for security reason, thats why after long time we got at least file manager, may be there is chance in windows phone 10 with lot lot of work-ground!

If I asked you this question, is precisely that no, it is not the same thing from a device to another.
The devices that can integrate a Micro-SD card can be mod (registre) to mod MTP which allow view folders and files Sys.
Try this, but I don't know if that works on WP8.x OS.

If you download windows phone 10 tech preview there is a bug allowing you to access all system files.

[Q] HTC 8S BSOD crash

After checking my device site I noticed that my HTC was not in the list so I grabbed it and turned it on, I was greated with a BSOD,
Now it doesn't react anymore on charging attempts, plugging it into a pc reveals Complete file system access.
It's now being treated as a USB device and any button on the phone of course doesn't work now. Is there anything I can do to resurrect this thing?
Hi,
Since you have complete FS access, copy the device's contents to your harddrive for research if you didn't do so already, :good:
You have not mentioned using any recovery tools, I suggest you start there...

I did not mentioned recovery attemtps but tried all which are possible for Windows Phones. The device is dead. I could copy all Contents exept "AppInstall, Programs, USERS, Windows and DUMP3584.tmp" which I couldn't even move with admin Access or Unlocker.

How to get emergency files for a Windows Phone not available on LumiaFirmware.com?

I was reading a guide on Windows Central to update Windows Phone 8/8.1-only devices to Windows 10 Mobile
In one of the steps, it says to download the emergency files for the phone (.mbn and .hex files) from LumiaFirmware.com
The thing is, these files are not available for all the phones and mine (Lumia 822) is one of those.
So my question is, is there another way to aquire those files?
I asked this same question on Windows Central (where the guide is) and they suggested I try this site.
Thanks.
