In an attempt to help tidy up this forum a bit, this thread has been created to centralize all discussion related to LTE on the Nexus 4.
*NOTE* DON'T CREATE ANY OTHER THREADS REGARDING LTE. USE THIS THREAD TO ANNOUNCE OR DISCUSS ANYTHING INSTEAD!
In order to enable LTE on your device, follow efrant's guidance below:
efrant said:
Here are all the things you need (checklist):
1) An LTE SIM
2) LTE coverage
3) LTE enabled in the radio settings on the N4 (dial *#*#INFO#*#* in the dialer, and select LTE/GSM auto in the "Set preferred network type")
4) The proper APN for LTE for your carrier (you will need to get this info from your carrier) inputed into your N4 AND selected
5) An LTE compatible data plan
6) LTE provisioned on your account.
Note that most carriers do not support VoLTE (i.e., voice over LTE), so you need to select LTE/GSM auto in the settings, and not LTE only in the N4 settings in point #3 above.
While all the above items are required, some carriers already have some of them by default. For point #6 above, if your carrier does not have this enabled by default, you will have to call in to make sure it is there. If they don't want to add it, explain to them that you bought an LTE device from outside of your country and you want to be able to use LTE. Ask them, if need be, to add a dummy IMEI to your account to allow provisioning. You may have to call back a few times until you speak to a CSR that actually knows what they are talking about. If you can't get anywhere with that, then you can try putting your SIM in an LTE device that is supported by you carrier and then call them to make sure that LTE is provisioned on your account, then try that SIM in your N4.

For point #3 above, you can find a collection of the radios from here - [REF][RADIO]Mako modem collection.
As you'll see written in the OP of the above thread, if you want LTE enabled DON'T flash the 0.48 radio as it disables LTE functionality. Flash one of the previous radios instead.
LTE Supported Carriers and Regions
Among your discussions, please post telling me if LTE works with your carrier so I'll be able to add it to this list.

Please keep all further discussion/support in this thread as all other threads will be closed. Thanks for your cooperation

I'm trying to get T-mo LTE working on my N4. I have CM 10.1 and the .33 radio. I can go into the 4636 menu, set any of the LTE choices from the drop down, and the network type in that menu says LTE, but I can't get any data to go through. I never get the 4G icon near the signal bar and it never turns blue to show it's connected to Google. I have the fast APN set, all I did was change the original from epc to fast. Is there a step I'm missing?

Of course they apply to T-Mobile USA. For example, you require an LTE SIM. If all of T-Mobile's SIMs are LTE enabled, then fine. That doesn't change the fact that one is required...

I kinda like one unified LTE thread...but for T-Mobile only since it has the biggest buzz being brand new. I was subscribed to about three LTE threads just to see how everyone is experiencing T-Mobile's LTE.

Guys, what's done is done. The mods all seem to agree on it so they probably discussed this already. Let's move on.
For T-Mobile USA carriers, use this for your APN:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39653099&postcount=106
It worked for me.
Las Vegas T-Mobile LTE. I was told it's only 10 MHz (for now until the Metro PCS merger, assuming that goes well with the stockholders) at 2x5 MHz. Can't wait to see the speed increase once they go to 20 or even 40 MHz!

OK, so which roms are perfectly compatible with the .33 radio and LTE and Tmobile? It seems to be the policy of molesarecoming and PA that they will not support older radios and LTE on Tmobile, with his recent comments this afternoon. So does Cyanogenmod work with the .33 radio on Tmobile with regards to voice calls?

Oh nice, so the latest CM is compatible with the .33 radio and voice calls working on Tmobile? Might have to flash Cyanogenmod for the first time on my Nexus 4. Been on PA for a long time, but not going to give up LTE because the dev doesn't feel comfortable supporting it.

CM-based ROMs (and possibly AOKP based ROMs) will work. AOSP based ROMs don't appear to work.
I can confirm that Xylon and CarbonROM work with the .33 radio.
For those coming from PA, Xylon has pie and hybrid settings now. CarbonROM also has pie and per-app settings. I tried both of these ROMs and think they're pretty good. I used hybrid settings a lot in PA so the transition to Xylon felt more intuitive to me.
Great speeds in Silver Spring, MD. Pretty much same results for the Wheaton and Rockville, MD areas as well. I'm still on stock 4.2.1.

Correct. Voice calls work. I can hear and speak just fine. I can make and receive calls. Someone did mention they weren't receiving calls though. I have only received one phone call so far. Only expected one call so far in the past day so can't say that was an issue for me.

Great, thanks a lot for the info. Now I gotta go skim over hundreds of pages of CM discussion. . .
I'm using cm 10.1 and .33 radio. Calls work fine as long as you have it set to LTE/GSM AUTO (PRL). GPS works as well.
When you make or receive a phone call it switches to GSM

I followed the instruction here: http : // hippowise.com/how-to-permanently-enable-lte-on-android-4-2-2-nexus-4/ and everything works perfectly. I use CM10.1 nightly and .33 radio. Screen shot here is at my work North San Jose (Montague and Zanker)
*copied from other thread *
Use ES file explorer to open build.prop which is in /system via es note editor. Then do the following :
Replace telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0 with telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
Note that this will have to be redone when switching it updating ROMs (ie flashing new Cyanogenmod nightlies)
It also allows you to enable or disable LTE through the mobile networks settings menu and with CM10.1 you can add an LTE quick toggle to the quick settings panel.

Hey everyone. can we get a working port of the WIFI calling APP from the G2, MyTouch 4G? Although T-Mobile USA blocks data, once we've flashed the euro rom and modem to get the phone capability back this should work right?
Thanks for some tips on how to get this working. I'm sure it will be great for the community..
you cant. not yet. all those devices needed a modified kernel. until we get that, it will never work.
well the mytouch and g2 did not need modified kernels but yes the nexus One and other older android phones on tmobile did. as far as i can see from a cursory read of those thread, there are specific lines in the build.prop file that have to be modified for our device but nothing terribly hard beyond that. i will continue looking but can someone also begin looking into this as well. How do we edit and what exactly needs to be edited in the Kernel to get the wifi calling app correctly ported to the Galaxy tab?
Thanks guys!
Any news or updates? Thanks
Just wanted to refresh this thread so we can get the attention of some knowledgeable people helping out. WIFI CALLING ON THE GALAXY TAB WOULD BE AWESOME!
WiFi Calling
I am not sure if this is what you wanted but I use sipgate. The service gives you a free number which allows both calling in and out using wifi or 3g data. I combined sip gate with the 3CXPhone app in the market. Works well for me.
thanks for the reply. but i'm aware of the VOIP possibilities out there thus far. i'd like the Tmobile Wifi app as i have the unlimited hotspot calling feature on my account.
any updates on wifi calling? can someone perhaps start a discussion on the relevant libraries that it uses? i'm not against giving it a try myself. i'm pretty competent.
man that blows :/
wifi calling would deduct from minutes. only uma calls are free with hotspot calling. i.e. blackberry and nokia type phones.
Wifi Calling on the MyTouch 4G does use your minutes
Tango and ooVoo?
are there any updates on this? next to 3g working with voice, this is my number one GOODIE on my tmobile tab!
Line2 works wonderfully

Seems there isn't large enough interest, I am interested....and will contribute to a bounty for this with $20.
I second that. Especially now that tmobile has just made wifi calling free (does not deduct from your minute allowance).

Now I want this! Can we wifi text for free? That would be nice.
story broke on tmonews.com - active as of 5/13 for even more & even more plus prepaid plans only (and of course those of us w/the g/f'd uma plan...)
bump. can we get an update on this please? even the HD2(stock winmo phone) has wifi calling now once an android rom is loaded. does anyone know any devs who can help getting this dream into reality?
can anyone recommend a rom that has the wifi calling app that works on the tab? i'd be willing to use one of those as i really need this functionality now.

All the Canadian ones are in the Captivate directory. They're still in the SF repository. Why would anyone look in the i9000 section to find 850mhz capable basebands?
I ran JL2 for months, Then KC1 for a while. Now onto 2.3.3 with KC1 modem. Not much difference between JL2 and KC1. Both have amazing battery life. The biggest difference is I find the KC1 modem way better. I dropped calls at my house often with the last few months of JL2 but now I get good reception.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to check if my 850 bands are on or not. Or if the modem is even installed.
Anyone who could guide me in the right direction would be most kind.
For some reason my web browser doesn't connect through 3G, but it does with wifi, any hints?
Also thanks for the modem shadoslayer.

Because the Captivate != i9000m? I wouldn't think to check under the captivate section for modems for the i9000m, since the captivate is the SGH-i896. Considering it is a different build of CM7 for the captivate and the two aren't compatible, I wouldn't have thought the modems were either.

On the status bar, do you have "3G" or "H" beside the signal bars? If you have a H, you're using HSDPA, which is good.
As for checking the bands under CM7, I have no idea how either and would really like to know since CM doesn't support samsung unstructured supplementary service data (USSD)...
And np on the modem and thanks for Furry for pointing out the modems are in the captivate section of sourceforge.
hey guys, while on this topic. What do you guys get with speed test? I'm on CM7 and KC1 and just ran it. Got 113ms ping, 1.27Mbps, 3.28Mbps. This is at 4:30pm. Ran it a few times, switching between Toronto and Oakville servers. Slow download
Edit:
Sigh. Just reran and got 6.11Mbps down and 1.59Mbps. Much better.

Yeah I have the H, so HSDPA is working, I suspect that's good for rural areas and low signal areas and I'm using most of my bands?
Also found this:
*#*#4636#*#* on phone dial pad, select phone information
It gets a bit of info on the radio methinks, but it hasn't gotten me closer to figuring out why my browsers only connect via wifi.

I didn't know about that code, thanks. Still doesn't show if the phone is on 1900/850 though. And I'm curious, when/how does the phone decide to switch between the two?

Those are Samsung USSD codes and will work fine under any Samsung based rom, but they will not work under CM7. Those USSD codes must be in code either not released or not released under GPL for use in CM7.
I've asked a bunch of times and no one ever answered, so I'm assuming there is no way under CM7 to see which band the phone is currently using, which is incredibly frustrating!

You have gotten the answer a few times...there is no way to check the band in CM7. If you feel you need one, raise it in the Dev forum once they open it back up to feature requests in a few weeks.
I would advise flashing KC1 and seeing how it goes. Keep an eye on your battery life, and how often the notification bar flips from 3G to H, and run Speedtests a few times a day. After a few days, decide if it is working better for you or not..if not, flash something else.
Modems are like fake IDs...if one doesn't work, flash another one.

Actually, I haven't got the answer a few times, and if I have, and missed it, please link to the actual threads, because a search reveals nothing.
You are the first person to come out and actually say "no, it's impossible".
Hi everyone, I flashed different ROMs for a couple of weeks, and finally decide to settle down with OC 2.3.3, the July 15th latest one. However, the same problem occurred, which is with a Tmo Modem in the tab, I have great signal, EDGE data, and no phone function. With JK3, I got nothing, which is the main reason I switched back to Froyo at first.
I am a ATT user, holding a Tmo GT. I didn't find any fimilar threads, and in fact, I think this is a question needs precise answers.
Thanks in advance!
Updated on #4
UPDATE: I find the signal sometimes appeared and give me GPRS... So weird... I even reflash the rom again, not help. So any other paople could help me?

You can use the t-mobile modem, and you will only get EDGE. You can use a vibrant modem and you can get voice and EDGE.
BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET 3G.
There are probably a five hundred posts on this.
And it will never matter which rom you use. It is only due to hardware limitations, as I explained to you elsewhere.
Thanks for the help, but you misunderstood. I know the edge and voice stuff, just the modem didnt work on my tab.
Since I absolutely want gingerbread this time, I finally figure this out, I went to wireless settings and select GSM only, instead of autoselect. NOW I can FINALLY make calls and get edge instead of gprs. I will keep tracked to see if this method could solve the problem eventually.

Yes, sort of.
You would have to install the Rotohammer modem switch.
Mode #1 = voice, sms, and EDGE speed data.
Mode#2 = 3g data only.

Just download a widget that shows signal strength until Hash can get it fixed. It was some code change with the Android 4.0.4 updates to CM9 and it affects all ICS builds but Hash doesn't have a GSM setup to test it so he hasn't been able to debug it.

Did hashcode remove his xt860 ics data patch from his site? I'd use that, it's the patch that says "xt860" at the top of blog.hash-of-codes.com/downloads/motorola-droid-3/cyanogenmod/ It works for every ics based rom I've tried it with. For apn settings you could try a custom apns-conf.xml with your bell and custom settings in it, couldn't you? The file is located in /system/etc/ and is easy to edit. I just put my custom apns-conf.xml on my sdcard and copy it over once after i flash, then if i have to wipe data etc there isnt any additional setup needed.

Imo better to have people using patches on the dev site/pointing out their there just incase functions/files etc change in the patch. May not be likely but ...
I'm running CM9 on my XT860 and it does work... that said, there are a few issues, it's ok for daily use for an avid early adopter such as myself, but not yet ready for prime time users.
Issues I'm battling right now:
- camera: if I switch to the front facing camera or the video camera, not only does the camera app crash, the only way to get it back at all (on the rear camera) is to reboot the phone.
- dialler: works... but as soon as you dial a number the dialler app exits, the call is still ongoing though but you have to re-open the dialler app to control it.
Everything else seems to work properly at the moment. (haven't tried bluetooth yet though)
Using my XT860 on TELUS in Canada.
I just replied to you in Hash's thread. Indeed you're using XT860 on Telus.
To solve the dialer problem you need V3 sim (newest) from Telus. 10 bucks and this nasty problem is gone. It prevents you from dialing thru conference bridges which I very often use and was very frustrated. Issue is in Motorola's baseband (radio firmware) and affects all roms including stock.

Well that is an odd issue indeed, I never would have linked that to the SIM card, but sure enough, that was it. Replaced the SIM with a v3 sim to solve.
Of course the down side is the SIM is $10, but the SIM doesn't do you any good unless they transfer your account to it which is another $25... (total $35) I got them to waive the cost of the SIM chip, but still had to pay activation.

They ripped you off. There is no fee for swapping the sim. You can do this yourself online from the self serve portal. All you need is to supply old sim number and the new one and you're done. No fee for that.

Sorry, I should have been more detailed when I did the suggestion. Not that big hit since you got them to give you the sim for free. But still - it isn't right!

I stumbled upon a thread in the N5 forums where they needed to go in and manually enable bands 26 and 41 on their devices in order to enable Sprint Spark (network speeds of 50-60mbps).
I followed their instructions on my S4 and low and behold, we have the LTE programming menu containing "enable band 26" and "enable band 41" in it. I have my MSL, so I tried to edit it, but every time I check the boxes to enable the bands, the settings don't stick.
I'm currently running TriForce 4.0 (4.3) and I have this option. I'm still working on a few things but thought some people could collaborate here so we can get this going. I don't see why our phones wouldn't support the new network. If it's a hardware limitation, someone please enlighten me.
EDIT: thread from N5 forums

I don't think the hardware is there to support it; that's why they are coming out with the SPH-L720T model which adds the two LTE bands (but loses VoLTE unfortunately).
This sort of thing has been done before... T-Mobile did something similar with the S3 - releasing a late variant which added LTE support.
I took the ota to 4.3...when I view my settings it shows band 26 and 41 already enabled.

Samsung can't have the device use those bands without having it approved by the FCC first so I went back to the FCC docs to see if Samsung sought band 26 and 41 support to the SPH-L720 since it was initially approved and they haven't. My guess is that the 720 and 720T may share the same firmware and that's why you are seeing that. Either that or they have started selling the 720T and that's the one you have (though I didn't think they did that yet).

Doh! That should have been "no support for SVLTE" instead of VOLTE. Sprint's network doesn't support VoLTE yet.
It doesn't lose VoLTE... VoLTE isn't hardware related its just any type of VOIP program but on LTE.. Or at least I think so

Correct. See the message right above yours (i.e. message #5).
luckily i am in a sprint spark market... i will definitely update everyone on this soon
but one thing i did notice is that when i click on it to enable, then go back to the same menu it unchecked itself. so the possibility isnt entirely there but we can hope right?

The topic of the post that was linked in the OP was for a Nexus 5. This is a Galaxy S4 forum section. Therefore you have to use the code ##3282# instead of *#*#3282#*#* on the S4. [Not Confirmed:] You also must be using the MJA modem in order to access these new bands.
Edit:
Go to this post to learn how to get your MSL.

So I'm on CM10.2, is there a way for me to do this tweak without having to revert back to stockrom?

What's the point of all this if the hardware in the current S4 variant can't support it? It's like putting a rocket engine button inside a Toyota Corolla. You can press it a hundred times but it still won't make flames come out the back of the car.
Im on Triforce 4.1 MJA and i do not see these band options. Yes i did ##3282# and i do have my msl.

Alright time to get in on this topic, I have a question. I have a sprint s4, im rockin the mja modem,on sac's 4.2 rom and have input the dialer code and do see band 26 and 41, I checked the boxes and when I did it went from [off] to [on] but once I back out and re-enter where these options are the boxes remain checked but state its [off].
So does this mean I enabled the bands, but at the moment there off cause I'm not in a area that supports these bands ? ( can't clarify weather I am in a area that supports these bands or not just guessed this is why this is happening).
Thanks in advance

Usually editing stuff in this sections requires ALSO hitting the settings button and choosing "Save"

Exactly. This thread makes no sense on this phone. The hardware doesn't support tri-band LTE.

Idk if that answer is directed at me or not but if so...I've changed a few things in this section (##3282#) a few times in the past such as ehrpd, multimedia, data profile and so on and have never saved my choices after making changes they've always just stuck.
Although saving them does make sense but there is no such option. If I were to press the settings button while in this menu nothing pops up? The choices I made do stick to a extent like turning on LTE the box stays checked and it does stay [on] but as for the bands...the boxes stay checked but don't stay [on].
(Screenshot attached).
Which brought me to To the conclusion that i enabled them but there currently off at the moment due to me not recieveing a signal from these bands due to me not being in a supported area..just a guess though, I can't confirm weather I am in a supported area or not.
NOTE:This isn't how these options are I cropped 3pics and made em into one fyi

Lol at activating bands on a phone that doesn't have them. :what:
Since I don't want to type something I've already written in the past I'll just leave a link to a similar discussion on another forum. Read my reply there at the end. It also applies here.

Wow! Very disappointing to hear but good to know that the phones you listed in the other thread are tri-band supported. I'll keep that in mind when I decide to upgrade my sprint s4.
So LTE and EHRPD is the most I'm gunna see out of this device huh....bummerrrr but I'm still happy with it just looking to get even more out of my device and my hands on but no worries.
Thanks again for clearing that up,
