Get a task manager and kill some tasks then, after killing tasks and only excluding stuff i need, eg. messenger app, music ect i get 205mb free ram and never go below 100mb.
I did still?at most 120 only.

Because your phone slows down when it gets below 100mb, don't bother arguing that because i know from experience that my o2x slows down and becomes choppy when the free ram goes below 100mb, because there is so much crap stored in memory.
If i need something to run ill run it and leave it there and exclude it from task manager but other wise its no use.
Its also a huge battery drain to have so many apps running that you are not using so that's a pretty stupid statement...."free ram is waste ram" lol wtf...., your battery life must be really long.
As for OP, i suggest you install a better rom, i use topigigis 1.7 rom and after killing a bunch of tasks i get up to 205mb free, altho this gets less the longer it goes without a reboot, so try rebooting and hen killing some useless tasks and see what your ram level is at.

Free ram is wasted ram. And taskkillers will only make you battery life worse if not some app is using all the cpu. The reason RAM is used by android is to keep apps preloaded, for better launch times. The built in task handler is all what is needed. My phone runs blazingly fast at all times, and I don't use a taskkiller.
yupe.. Mine is mostly below 100mb.. 70mb on average. but it's smoother than froyo with 140mb.. list of applications and files are faster to load and smoother.. so i have no complain at all.
I'm also experiencing the lower free memory in the default configuration with GB compared to Froyo. Although I'm not trying to get as much free RAM as possible (because I support the reasons given above for usage of the RAM, having apps in there doesn't mean that they're running) I'm still curious where the missing amount of memory went... Does anybody have any clue what was introduced or changed with GB that could use up about 70MB?

Oh really and what is your logic for thinking having no unused apps running will use more battery than having lads running.....you make no sense an have no logic or fact to back up such a ridiculas assumption.

Clearly you've been on cm7 so long you forgot how bad stock is..
Stock firmware for my phone was horrible and backgrounding was working for only seconds due to lack of ram, Opera would never background, always a new boot.

I m on stock v20 ROM. Sometime my fone will b sluggish and it seems like e low RAM is causing it. Also wondering where e RAM went After upgrading.
use supercharger
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
And there's a bug in original stock kernel about memory management, horse power kernels are better for that.
Its not just about the rom your choosing its about the kernel, flash a good kernel and it will improve memory usage.
So does flashing custom kernel void e warranty and does it need rooting? Which is e best kernel for stock ROM v20?
Thanks

Yes most of the time and Yes. Some providers accept phone customization in warranty, ask yours.
If you have v20L you only have Horse Power kernel (Neoblaze seems bootloop) + Power pack 7 (mandatory, orbootloop, see dedicated threads).
If I reflash my phone using one of the original images availabe and reset it, is there any chance for the provider to detect previous flash operations?

I'd tend to relate the better battery life to the new kernel than the increased free ram. I'm on RC9 (w. PP7, no init.d-scripts) and my LGOS reaches almost two days of battery standby with ~50-60MB free RAM.

Now don't get me wrong, it's still quite playable, but I'm comparing the performance on CM10 to the performance when I was on CM7.
Back when I was on CM7.2, I still played on the lowest graphics settings possible for Dead Trigger. This was because I was after the buttery smooth, close to 60FPS frame rate; on medium or high settings, Im guessing I'd only get about 35-40.
After I updated to CM10 nightly official, I never experienced a single second of the pure smoothness on the LOWEST graphics setting.
It'd be like playing on medium or high settings, except for the fact that it was actually on low...
What do you guys think could be the problem? One of my main concerns is the low RAM; on CM 7.2, on average I had 180-210 MB free. Now on CM10, on average its 120-150. I don't use any particularly RAM consuming apps apart from Viber perhaps, but that didn't affect my RAM on CM7 much at all.
I assume it's the RAM.

In my experience, the games in CM10 runs, at least, as good as in CM7. Maybe you had an custom (overclocked) kernel in CM7 ?

No, I definitely not have an over clocked processor on CM7...
Like I said, I'm almost sure that it's caused by the low amount of RAM our phone has. If our phone gets down to like 30mb RAM it starts to lag pretty bad in games (at least that's what I noticed. If the game is running and uses so much RAM that it gets filled up almost entirely). The overall performance drops a bit too but our phone remains smooth.

In my opinion the blame is on ram. When my phone has little ram, games have more lag in the begining of the game. When ram is empty, the game is lagless...

I'am shure our perfect dev's will build oc kernel with ramhack and zram so we can enjoy all games and demanding app's :good:
i too experience lag while playing asphalt7 on cm10....it used to work fine on pa jb..
dead trigger works very fine for me, better than was on cm7. The fact is i don't heave many aplications installed, and i assume maybe this will be the explenation.
Yeah I am finding firefox more laggy on CM10 compared to CM7.....I assume this is due to having less free memory on CM10
One advice, install systemtuner app, turn off the process you don't want to startup wih phone and also freeze some apps you don't want to eat your memory
Restart phone after that and you can have free about 188mb at startup for demanding games
Yes, im use ram booster, and not have problem lags

i tested batman and it was laggy the frst 30 seconds but then all of a sudden it settled and was smooth i think they just need some time to cache or load some stuff into the memory its a huge game after all.

No that one doesn't lag, not all games are affected, gangstar, wild blood and mc3/4 run fine, amazing Spiderman lags terribly, asphalt 7 stutters and nova 3 lags heavily during firefights. The phone has 1GB ram, that's not a problem, and a quad core processor is better than my laptop, it's gameloft and their bugs, although I've managed to avoid the unlucky devices until now :/

its not the ram that can be the issue but if you have 5 active apps that try to sync the wel like facebook twitter and so on they might cause stutters in the game.
but ill try to get my hands on the games you said and try those.
but not all can be obtained illigaly and im not buying these games just to test it hehe.
not that i can if i wanted to as i dont have a credit card and never wil.

Just look at the reviews, everyone with the 4x has the same complaints. Someone said things can be improved by flashing custonexus but as a working man I need a stable release first. As for background apps I can play mc4 with no lag even if play store is downloading in the background and with facebook running, its not a problem

#FAQ
Q: How does this app work?
A: It kills useless running apps and free up memory before launching your game, so your game will run more smoothly.
can do this with a taskmanager, cant i?
and only should make a difference when you forgot to close some memory-consuming apps that still run in the background...
if you close apps with the "back"-key and not just background it with the "home"-key, then you shouldnt really notice a difference.

I forgot to mention also force all cores online. Trust me there's a difference, what's the obsession with task killers? The apps just restart again claiming more of your memory. The difference with a root app like this is the ram component actually alters the out of memory values in the system. Standard task killers are a waste of space in my opinion, especially on apps with background services. The optimus 4x is badly optimized for games and whatever this does it works, gonna test on Spiderman and post my results

i am used to change the governor to "performance" even on my pc, when i play games that put my system to the limit, so i do that on my phone, too
i use "CPU Master free" for that, works like a charm.
maybe i'd use this app with a lower specs phone, but atm there are plenty of games out there i can play perfectly fine, in fact i didnt find a game thats lagging at all, be it vice city, horn or order and chaos.
well if i experience a situation where i need even more cpu cycles, i will give this a try.
but 2€ is too much at the moment for an app i dont need.

So I decided to write this post because I've haven't find any helpful posts about it. Sometimes I wanna take full advantage of this quad-core device
and enjoy HD games and when I say that I don't mean on sitting on it for 5hours and expect it to run all the games perfect n smooth but I wonder
why on my device (full stock) in games like gta vice city, gta III, real racing 3 even sometimes asphalt 7 I experience frame issues especially gta
vice city which I expected to run smooth when I lower graphics a bit i get so bad frame drops and the games like n. o. v. a 3 and modern combat
4 run perfectly smooth with decent Fps. So first I thought guess gta isn't maybe well optimized for xperia z but then when I searched over YouTube for some gameplay of same games they ran alot smoother on same stock version of xperia z. So what's the difference I've downloaded all the latest versions of these games restarted phone before running and disabled stamina battery mode but still the same thing. Always the same frame issuses and they are not just a little ones sometimes makes game so un enjoyable and leggy especially gta vice city. So I would appreciate any helpful opinion or advice or am I really starting to regret for getting this phone not just because few games Lagg only on my device
there are many other stuff but I won't write about them in this post ( I am running all the games from internal memory not using SD card yet) So
I wonder do I really need to root my phone and flash it with some light pure preformamce custom room to get decent preformamce of this games?
Thanks for reading and looking forward for some helpful answers thanks.
That highly depends on what apps you have installed into your phone.
Have you test with only the stock rom with default apps ?
Hmm
I consider about factory reset since to be honest most of my internal memory is filled with games I am testing and I have like only 10%free space
even less but I don't think it affects so much of preformamce of games 1gb of free space should be enough I guess as for other apps I don't really have alot of them downloaded most of them came with the phone itself. Since I am not really into all of the custom roms and all that expert I only thought about factory reset and getting decent class sd card but thought since ppl on YouTube used stock room and got smooth let's say decent
Gameplay guess I should too well. I'll wait for some more replies before factory also I am a bit worried bcs I read a post from one guy that there could some software
Problem with the phone on some1 else post that had the same problem with certain games so I am very thankful on fast thankful advices

It's affect the performance of course, also many process may occur if you have a ton of useless app on your phone, seriously 1gb free space? Ridiculous... I can't believe that you need all that space and you play all of your that games all the time.

The lag in the games what I guess is caused by the underclocking of ur cpu due to the heating and stuff..in my xz,when I start the game everything runs smooth but after an hour or so,when the phone heats up..sometimes I feel a little lag, just a little..I play in a cooler place, the lags reduce a lot..well,every game I've ever played lagged at some point..
