Try it.. Can't do any harm.

If you try swaping on stock kernel it wont just click in..
You will get error while trying it with swapper application..

i really wanted to start a thread for about this question fortunately someone did start this thread before i am doing it.
so i will come to the matter -->> i tried swapper in my stock kernel(locked bootloader) with Ginger DX v031b
and as u say it gives error whenever trying to on swapper and swapping.
so no swapping that mean no for HD games on my X8. i really want to play some nice game that our
X8 can handle but unfortunately we need a custom kernel to do so.

Sent from my MOLEY_X8 using xda premium
for me..
and hightly recomment is GingerDX v20
and when you know after reading thread by thread you can match with kernel
linuxDX, or Alfs kernel, or nAa kernel...
it can simply make your device faster and smootherst
but beware if you new on kernel
(make sure your know what are U doing when playing with kernel and unlock bootloader)
because it can brick you phone!
and then I sure after this you will screaming here and asking how to save your bricked phone!!
here the answer use SEUS
gingerdxv20 for sure
ginger x20 keeps on crashing my apps non stop why?? downloaded 10 apps and 6 of them crashed and had to install again..is this normal?

U have to follow installation properly
make sure install GDX with CWM instead Xrecovery
and fullwipe..
or maybe your device 'special' same like my friend phone
(when I flashing GDX 20 and GDX v19 on his phone)
I found this problem = sdcard no show
but when in recovery = all files and folder prety there
and I have no idea why....
Gx with custom kernal no lag 8 day use

CWM? whats that?? i only had xrevocery no CWM ..is it like xrecovery where u click back when you see SE ?
No you need tap on the screen, also you need to have installed.

froyopro incase of daily tasks and battery performance
for me gingerdx v20 is the best rom for x8 super fast and no lag

when u reboot..
press volume down key or/and tap screen (when u see SE white logo)
u'll see CWM recovery and install GDX by this way
or if u can get into CWM th8 mean U don't have CWM
so install dual recovery.zip first (u can use search button)
or install other rom which one have dual recovery pre install
sorry long explaination
and hit thanks button twice!
thanks! (thanked already )
so in summary ...
open xrecovery and find CWM
if CWM is missing then go donwload it...
is cwm same with xrecovery?or is it and extension?
then use cwm and install the mod instead of xrecovery (do i need to system wipe?)
reboot phone then done?
hmmm just wondering will my link2sd apps will stay?
does it have anything to do with busybox? according to dotsen i must not update busybox

This is my 1st time to install froyo,i used gingerDX a long time and i always get some anoying lags when install 10+ apps and i hate thath
I dont play games but I would like something thaths smooth and fast in multitasking. So i can have 2-3 widgets and open something normal thath i dont get lags,if is possible. Maybe is my SD card causing lags (class 2).
Yeah it must be your sdcard..
Partitioning it in CWM > Advanced would help though.. Choose ext4 filesystem > No ext > No swap..
Good luck..

Yes, I have this bugs too. Additionaly, CWM is in 4 version - in GDXv28b was CWM 5 and it was better.
I have FC in all apps, so I can't use this ROM.

Edit: In 2nd version GDXv29 for Stock Rom works so much better, but Settings app is old.

no wifi on alfs8a
hi all.. i have alfs v8a, and ginger dx v28b, working great with an average antutu score of about 1940 when overclocked to 748.
i downloaded and installed ginger dx v29 and it is great, nice look, nice feel and all.
i got good signal, feels smooth, bluetooth is good and overall its great.
however, i have the same issues with most who are using this rom.
i did not notice the auto brightness if it is working, have not confirmed it yet for myself coz i only got the rom about an hour.
and the biggest issue is that wifi is not working. i dont know what i did wrong but i think i did evrythng ryt, i already flashed the libsensorspatch and still, wifi says error when turning it on.
i will attach a screenshot from my about phone so you guys can check if i have the right kernel for this.
as i saw this post from the dev section:

This ones are ok:
X8_v08a-cm7_Alfs&djnilse.zip
X8_v9-cm7_Alfs&djnilse.zip
X8_09a-cm7_Alfs&Djnilse.rar
This ones are NOT ok:
X8_08-GDX_Alfs&Djnils.rar
X8_09a-GDX_Alfs&Djnilse.rar
i just wanna make sure if im using the right kernel or not because i really dont want to have the kernel changed if i have other options

I have installed GDX v29 on stock kernel and i have no bugs except that when i have activated oc module it works aparently but decreases performance a little (i.e. without oc module v004 at 600 mhz antutu benchmark scores are 1656, but with oc module v004 at 748 1550-1640), this is a bug?
Sorry for my bad English

I have the same problem, and i think that the error is on /system/etc/init.d/10app2sd the script doesn't work on stock kernel.
Solution: I changed it to the 10app2sd GDX v28b version and now a2sd works correctly.

Help Choosing Custom Rom

Hi, for the first time I'm planning to install a custom rom so infact I'm doing this only because of native app2sd support:fingers-crossed: but to be honest I want a full compatible custom rom which should support and run most applications from market and performance should be good just like the stock 2.1 if not better... and if possible then camera and all other major functions should be working in it without any bugs.
That's all I ask .. currently I'm thinking about :
cyanogenmod
GingerDX
GingerZaraki
but I don't know which one is better Don't really want to unlock bootloader / kernels unless really necessary..
Thanks in advance.

Unlocking bootloader & installing a custom kernel is highly recommended ( if u don't know how to unlock & required build date DON'T TRY IT)
Best rom for stock is Gingerdx (my opinion) very stable, smooth.
Camera, etc works fine & without bugs.
Native app2sd is also supported
