[Q] Phone Stuck in boot loop - USB port broken - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, i'm new here, so if I make a mistake, no hate please.
So I was trying to install Xbean onto my Galaxy S GT-I9000.
This phone has a broken USB port, and as such, I had to root and flash Clockwordmod Recovery mod onto it without a computer. I managed to get into CWM Recovery and went to flash the Xbean.zip file I had on the internal SD card, and when I did, it lasted maybe 3 seconds, then turned off and back on. It's now hanging at the "Galaxy S GT-I9000" first boot screen. For some reason, the 3 button combo doesn't work for either recovery or download.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this issue?
P.s. I have already taken the battery out and placed it back in multiple times.

same here. I have a galaxy s I9000 with a broken usb port and I can get into download mode but no recovery. because of the usb port can not use odin. searched a lot but I could not find a solution. without odin it seems it is not possible to fix the phone. One repair center guy told me that there is a chip or something on the motherboard that regulates the usb connection. that thing is damaged because of imporperly charging. I have a bricked phone.(though I have still download mode)

both of u. if ur on GB. n u success to boot to recovery before da problem occur, u need to flash cm9 stable first to gain da cwm not direct custom ROM. then first flash will bootloop. juz take out battery, n use 3 combo button to go back to recovery again. its da matter of releasing da combo button. release it RIGHT AFTER u see da first bootsplash n wait. if failed. try again. n if it still fail. it means da kernel doesnt even flashed inside system.so u need to flash back to firmware using odin.
note: first flash will install cwm n kernel only as upgrading partition.
second flash will install da ROM.
try to boot to recovery again.

Usually the way to fix this would be to use the adb shell to force download mode, or using a USB jig to go back to stock. However neither of them would work because you have a broken USB port... :/

Again, best way to do this would be to use download mode and flash in a stock rom. Bu tif the USB port is broken... :/
I think the only thing you guys can do would be to get the USB port repaired somehow. Most methods (although do try @compacity's method, it may work) rely on the USB port and a USB connection.

was struggling with the same problem for 2 weeks until I had to give up and send it in.
In my case though, it was not like the support guy said a broken chip but abrasion of the connector in the middle of the USB Port. Obviously plugged it in too often.
Sent it to W-Support, they replaced the small plate in the middle of the connector and everything is working nicely again. So probably a piece of hope for you that maybe some support can still revive your phone. Unfortunately afaik there is no way to recover it w/o reflashing. Was within warranty so no clue what the price would be.
Some people are reporting that removing the battery for like one night made the bootloop disappear.. desperate times etc. wo why not give it a shot

As I said before donwload mode is ok but conection can not be done due to broken usb port (even after fixing the usb port two times). So I guess there is something wrong with the main board. Anyway thanks to all...May be if there is a way to boot from an external sd (like installing ubuntu from usb stick) if not I have dead phone....

[Q] Bricked Captivate & Micro USB for data broken...

Hello everyone,
I installed a rom on my rooted phone and it did not go well. Now the phone is bricked.. Normally I would be able to fix this. But a few months ago the phone stopped being recognized by my computer. Still charges but the port is damaged some how and no pc will recognize it. I can not get it into recovery I have tried and tried again and again. Still stuck in android with the triangle around it. And sometimes I will get a symbol with a phone-triangle-pc. Does this mean it is done, shot, bricked for ever? LOL
You could replace the micro usb port...
Connect phone to pc and run samsung kies it will repair files then open kies, go to tools and install drivers then get into download mode and flash with odin

I can fix this. Send me a PM.
I am having a similar issue. My phone is soft bricked on the AT&T splash screen with no ability to get it into recovery. The micro USB is completely non-functional.
I am (was?) running CM7 when the problem occurred. I have considered just about every option I can think of (and have had the phone together and apart twice to see if I could get the port working... no dice) including having the phone boot from an external SD card but this still seems to need some ability to get into recovery, which I do not have.
Any creative solutions (short of just buying a new phone...)

You could send it to the guy above to have a new micro usb port installed or MobileTechVideos.com. I had them fix a hard brick on my Captivate and would use their services again in a heart beat if I needed to.

Another brick issue I897

I was trying different roms and when i moved to cm7 i found that my download mode is not working through adb and key combination plus usb plug in methods. so in recovery mode i tried to install some other rom and after 2-3 tries to install the rom i got in position that when i reboot my cappy, it shows att logo screen and then it stucks there. when it is off and put usb cable in it, it show circles (the same for charging) but not the battery signal.
i made a usb jig and it does not seem to work. i hv checked with multimeter that when i connect the jib it provides 296k ohm on the pins 4-5. (i hv opened the device and checked the jig resistance while connected). i am considering the 4-5 pins are the closest to microphone jack
adams detect mode does not detect device even in ubuntu. lsbusb 1.0 does not show any device for samsung etc. it only shows my mouse etc.
windows (7 64bit )does not detect it to be connected.
As i have opened the device for un-brickable mod but it seems to be impossible for me to do it myself. i live in bahrain (gulf). it is very small place to find some good soldering skill guy. it will be very costly and time consuming it to send it to someone in usa to do mod for me.
please help me regarding this.
You don't need Jtag or UBM. You are just soft bricked. Although 296 should be enough it isn't always the case for all phones 300-307 is the recommended resistance. Re-make your jig, make sure your fingers do not touch the resistor's metal, or make one soldered up and isolated.
thanks for the reply. i will try to make another jig. but the thing is, I tried the same resistor few months back with a rough jig and at that time it worked for me and some of my friend's device. but this time it is not working for me and for the vibrant of my friend. he also has cm7 installed and adb reboot download is not working for him ( it just reboots no download mode). Otherwise his device is working properly.
i changed the resistors (3 X 100k resistors before it was only one 1 X 300k resistor) so i got 300K Ohm and my device got in download mode. i installed some stock rom (JF6) and then moved to cm7 and then ics port by teamhacksung. but my devices does not go to download mode using key combination + usb plug in. how can i fix it? which rom i shod install to fix it? on reboot it goes to recovery mode not normal reboot. how can i fix it?
Flash GB bootloaders. (Assuming it works on that ICS port) if not use the 3 button fix.

On a side note. Do you mean to say when you hit reboot it goes in to recovery? or that it only has recovery option on the power menu?
All you have to do is order the download Jig from MobileTechVideos. I bought one and as soon as you plug it in, it goes straight to download mode. Bricked or not. You can re-flash with stock Odin afterwords. Cheap easy Fix. $8.00 US Currency, takes only a couple days to get there.
mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-download-mode-jig/
Don't get me wrong If you want to buy one made do it in Mobiletechvideos. But in my case it's $11 and at the time of need I wasn't going to wait 1+ weeks for it. But each their own. Like i said IF you are going to buy one made get it from josh.
Anyway thanks guys as i mentioned that my jig worked. i updated to ics. After that I found that i was unable to go in download mode using key combination plus usb cable plug in method so i went back to one click stock jf6 (using jig download mode) and applied 3 button fix patch. so it fixed my recovery and download mode options with key combinations. now i m again at cm7. Anybody has 3 button fix patch for gb bootloaders? how can i check what is my bootloader (eclair / froyo / gb)?
Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help
PS when coming OFF of CM7 or MIUI you must flash back to stock with a one-click or with odin flasher WITH a pit file and re-partition checked. As CM7 uses a different partitoning table and other roms will not boot.

Gingerbread bootloaders do not need 3 button fix (that will hardbrick it). There isn't a real way to test if you have I897 GB bootloaders. Just flash the BL package in dev and you should be golden. Just remember when ever you flash to stock use a package without booloaders.

[Q] Another way to boot to Recovery?

Hi everyone,
I started to use custom roms about some months ago, and I'm facing my biggest problem right now, hope someone can help me.
I flashed my phone via TWRP Custom recovery with CM10.1 and one day, suddenly the pin (that little entering for the charger and usb cables) stopped working, so I couldn't charge my phone in any "normal" way, I started using a direct battery charger. But today I flashed my phone with another version of CM and forgot to wipe data/cache, so now it's stucked in the CM boot animation. Thing is, I can't even access to recovery mode to flash again because for some reason, everytime I turn my phone off, it turns on automatically. Without pressing any button, and it doesn't give me time to do the vol-/home/power combo. I can't use any direct cable alternative either for what I described above. So I was wondering if some of you had a similar problem and can give me a hand with this. I'd be very much appreciated it.
Many thanks and greetings from Perú!

Press recovery combos when your turning off, see if that works, you might just be holding power too long and it turns on again
No usb at all? If you can connect with adb, you can reboot to recovery that way.
Combo.

Use key combos mate... and after the phone vibrates, release only power button for avoiding the autorestart :fingers-crossed:
Hi, thanks all for your advices. I try em all but with no sucess. Though, something weird happened today. After the battery completely drained I tried charging it with the my regular charger, the cable to the wall one, and the phone vibrated, like it recognized it, but didn't turn on. Just vibrated. So I tried again using my micro USB to PC cable and the phone vibrated again when I plugged in to the USB port, but didn't turn on either, nor the PC recognized the device. Don't know if this is good or bad :S
If you have any more ideas, please let me know.
Thanks!

I'm trying this, but it keeps auto restarting. I'll describe what I'm doing, maybe there's something wrong:
1. Insert the battery.
2. Phone vibrates, I press Vol-/Home/Power and Samsung Galaxy S3 mini shows.
3. Keep pressing the combo and the phone turns off
4. Release the power button
5. Phone vibrates and again shows the Samsung logo and then the CM boot animation
Turn off again and same.
Thanks for the advice!
Hi again, I managed to get to "Odin Mode", the recovery that comes by default with the phone. Don't know why if I had TWRP installed. Does anyone know if it's gonna help me in some way? Remember I can't use a cable
Thanks!
How did you get into "Odin Mode"? Are you sure the cable is not working when the phone is in download mode?
Got into it by doing the button combo, tried several times and it was tricky but finally got it. And yeah I quickly connected to the computer (I have a Macbook but I also try on a PC) neither of them recognized it. Don't know what else to do
Try wireless adb.
When connected to computer:
Code:
adb shell
su
reboot recovery
As far as I know the phone should not vibrate everytime you put battery back. But if you're able to go into odin you should be able to go into recovery (unless volume up key is damaged). But... while in odin... you can go back to stock rom and that should solve lots of your problems mate.

Hi tys0n, thanks for your suggestion. I did a little research and found that to connect the phone on adb wirelessly I'd need a previously installed app. Do you know any other way to get it?

You also need a working rom.
If the usb connector on the phone is broken, you can buy another one for 4$ on ebay, but you'll need to solder it and it's a smd component with small pins, so it may be difficult.
You can also try to reboot your phone in safe mode:

Yeah, thats true. A working system is needed.
Just a question.. When you try to enter recovery (vol+/home/power), have you tried to keep pushing when it reboots?
Have you tried to connect usb in download mode (vol-/home/power) to see if Odin detects it?
Whiteout a being able to synch to your computer or accessing recovery mode youre not gonna be able to restore your phone. Your best bet is buying a new micro usb cable (they are inexpensive) and restore using Odin.

Yeah, I keep pushing the buttons combo and it reboots again, it won't start to boot CM, just displays de Samsung logo and reboots. About the second question, I've tried connecting the computer while in Odin mode but it won't recognize it, I haven't tried with Odin itself open because my primary computer is a Macbook and don't have a PC with the Odin installed near to me all the time. Do you think it could recognize the device, despite the fact the whole PC doesnt?
Thanks!

Hi, I wish it'd be that easy! The problem is the pin entrance in the phone, not the cable. I have like 4 with me, but none of them works

Oh, I see. You mention you could access odin mode, Im not familiar with it, but maybe it is possible that you could flash TWRP again, or CWR from the odin recovery? Also if you don't mind me asking, do you know how did the phone's pin got damaged?
I'm starting to thing you aint got a recovery at the moment. I've seen this type of thing before. Problem is, if you can't get odin to work you won't be able to solve it :/

I have no idea. I didn't fall or anything, it just stopped working one day. I thought it had to do with a "software" thing more than hardware, because I was using CM 10.1 and of course it wasn't official, it had bugs. I actually was trying to go back to CM10 to see if that was the problem but I got stuck here.

[Q] N7000 bricked - No USB connection possible

ok first things first, imma noob, and i did a stupid thing.
It started in last summer when i wasnt able anymore to connect the N7000 to my WIN 7 64bit (probably after an update to ICS /JB).
Well since i never needed to transfer files (64GB-sdxc) i didnt care much about it. but then in last times my phone/ram cache was full of so much unblockable bootloaded crapware so that i wanted to switch from a official 4.1.2 firmware to cyanogen. But since my USB wasnt working it wasnt that easy.
Side note: the USB-port was ****ed up before (short-circuit, screen woke up due to fake-loading). i fixed that by luck and some dark magic.. so of course i thought the connection problem were because oif the broken jack.
The day before yesterday i tried for 8 hours anything i could find to install another bootloader and flash CM (CWM / TWRP / Triangle away / minimal adb/fastboot etc.); didnt work, CWM seemed to boot up but loading failed all the time at 1/3rd of the bar at screen went black.
Yesterday my friend came over and i tried to use his USB-jack to connect my phone to my Pc, which failed. THEN i put the "broken" one from mine in his N7000; that was efficacious, everything worked fine, so the USB-jack wasnt the problem.
Later i had, out of frustration, moronism, and anger, the glorious idea to download and flash another (older) Kernel via mobile odin to install an old gingerbread stock rom on it afterwards.
That was stupid as i know now, all i can do now is enter download mode, but without USB-connectivity and the stock bootloader with the options reboot system / update from sd / wipe data / wipe cache / test redbend fota(FS) and boot, which stucks at the N7000-screen.
After i managed to **** things up i found an article which describes my (now former) USB-problem perfectly. it says to put in a special number combination on the phone to get to phoneUtil and then switch from modem mode to pda mode. i knew this screen before but i couldnt find it at the preferences on JB.
Now comes my question: What could be done to unbrick my phone? is there any help?
Can you not try another USB cable? Try cleaning out the pins and see if it works. Then flash speedmod.

>Just to clarify: with USB-Jack i mean the USB-Port with the connector to the motherboard; sorry if i misused the word
I dont think so cause we used only his cable when he was here and my phone neither connected with mine nor with his USB-Jack, but both Jacks worked on his phone.
Pro-question: Is there a difference between (usual) USB-connection in booted mode and connection in download mode? i mean is download mode something like a "safe mode" where the USB doesnt need to run on 100% availabilty? Should i try to find the phone via Odin in downdload mode again by using his cable? i dont think this could work else.
Samsung galaxy note gt-n7000 bricked. Need HELP!!
The phone shows " Firmware upgrade issue encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I cant go to recovery mode ie. vol up+home+power. THings I have tried:
1. with Kies the device isnt recognised. I have updated the driver as well.
2. with odin every thing fails... flashing "all samsung recovery.tar", flashing stock jelly bean, flashing .pit file
I have googled for days and tried many things but isnt working. Need help

[Q] problem with usb port and software

I have an AT&T Captivate, I successfully installed ICS ROM using internal SD card method, but then I decided to go back to GB through a backup that I made before I install ICS, when I tried to restore a backup using CMW recovery, some kind of error appeared after I have formatted the phone.
after I restart the phone it seems that there's no rom installed and the phone won't start I can't even get to the recovery mode the screen becomes white and the phone get very hot but nothing else.
I tried to get a new software using odin but then I remembered that I used to have a usb issue the usb port wasn't welded in place in the right way so the phone was charging but not recognized by the computer so I think the power legs are welded correctly but the data legs aren't.
I took the phone to a person who can make this welding good but then he told me that one of the usb welding pads on the motherboard are missing and that he can't weld it and he need something like a blueprint or a map for the board to but a wire instead of that missing pad.
so I'm asking, is there any way to install a software that doesn't need a USB connection and if not is there a place where I can find this map for the motherboard??????
plzzzz help guys
I once had my Cappy seemingly hard bricked, black screen and nothing else. I was able to use one of the alternate methods of getting into Download / Recovery Modes to reflash the phone. See -- Captivate - PC Connection Issues, Download Mode and Recovery Mode Help I used one of the methods where I pulled the battery, and then held a button combo while I replaced the battery.
It sounds like you have a custom recovery, either CWM or TWRP. If so, you may be able to put a ROM on the external_SD using your PC. Once you have done so put the microSD back in the phone and see if you can flash from recovery.
