Using my Note as a hotspot? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dos anyone know how to use the Note as a hotspot so that other devices can connect via WIFI? Will I get charged for using it this way even though I have an All You Can Eat Data plan with 3?

Settings more then tether.
Im on 3 one plan and tether included. I think its included in one plan and internet bolt on.

Indeed only 1 plan has tethering as default

Indeed, I do this all the time! Just go into settings and enable hotspot.. easy as that!

Sure just install PDANet from Play store. I used Foxfi first but they recently merged with PDANet. My note is unlocked using T-Mobile SIM and it lets my Note 10.1 connect to internet from work where there is no network access. PDANet asks dor a one time fee for unlimited hotspots.
Hope this helps.

Nexus S 4g Radio Software update GWK74 - 2.3.7 is a lie.

The reasons that I wanted this update was the promise of better radio and to get Google Wallet.
The 3g icon is shown all the time now, but speeds are 2g at best on the same places I used to get 2g so, just the icon changed.
Even where I used to be roaming it shows 3g, but the speed, 8 to 80kbps is the average, just like before.
I'm posting links for the new apk's that came with the update plus the old apk for Netflix, the updated one won't let you watch on 2 devices simultaneously.
(I had to remove the "h t t p : / /" from the links because I'm a new user).
Wallet.apk - db.tt/cwXPbOJA
Shopper.apk - db.tt/WQPistv2
Netflix.apk - db.tt/Rif4IF1z
I'm not sure you can just download the apk to your SD and install using a file explorer.
Let me know if it works or not.
Thanks,
Digo.

Of course you can still tether. I did not lose the ability to tether when my firmware updated to the newest version.
Or did you mean tether for free if that's not included in your service plan, which is an entirely different concept?
Yes, that's what I meant, tether for free no more.

Are you even rooted? lol CM7 and many custom Roms/kernels are available that let you tether natively. Maybe give some more information so we can help you. Thanks for the files though, that was thoughtful.
You can flash another radio or latest radio as well, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078213
Sorry guys, I feel stupid now . I wasn't able to tether with Wi-Fi tether, because I was connected to my home network. :|thanks for all the help.

How to set Nexus 7 as a hotspot?

Hello everyone,
I've searched tons of different places looking for an answer but I couldn't get one...
My question is really simple (the answer however..), can I set my nexus 7 as a hotspot? My nexus is the 16GB version without 3G, so basically I want to:
1 - connect the nexus to a wifi network (done);
2 - share that network to other devices through nexus 7 (pending);
I've even looked at play store but the apps I've found aren't compatible with nexus 7.
TIA.
If you have your nexus connected to WiFi... Y not just connect the other device to the same WiFi....

because some of my devices are away from the router and can't get a proper signal.
I don't think that's possible.. As the wifi connection stops as soon as you turn on wifi hotspot

Bingo. Wi-Fi their was never designed to act as a range extender. It is for using a cellular connection to act as a hotspot to provide a Wi-Fi for devices that could not otherwise connect. As such, any time tethering is activated, it will, by necessity, disconnect the device from Wi-Fi.

Buy a range extender, as what you're looking to do is contradictory to the functional design of hotspot apps.

I was looking for a similar option, but to use the n7 as a wifi router. The purpose this would serve varies between users. My use, would be so me and my kids could all connect together in games while going down the road with no internet. Hard to play multiplayer while having no connection. So, being able to use the n7 as a router would serve more uses than just extending range. Those answering should see the benefit of such an ability in a larger scope, and not just the reason the op needs.

Working Tether without root (not wireless)

The Klink app works great with the HTC one for tethering without root.
It does require you to set it up on the computer you're tethering with, and the phone.
Long time lurker and I haven't hit the post requirement for link posting, just search Klink in the play store.
I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, if so please let the post sink and disregard it.
I just purchased based on your opinion..it's Pretty good ..thanks

It appears you can usb tether with sense too, just need to install HTC sync manager and enable usb sync in the phone settings.
I didn't bother installing HTC sync manager, so couldn't confirm yet. But information seems that it'll work.

First subscribe to hot spot shield elite from Google play store ,it's 0.99 cents a month, turn it on then the tether treV mod. That will do it.the hot spot shield helps to block T-Mobile.

What are you tethering to that sets off the alert?
I tether Gigs to my Nexus 10 with no issues. I'd try using Chrome as your browser on a PC and trying the Spdy and internet speed boost options. They reroute through the chrome servers and it may mask your device type if using a PC

I tether with no problem using native app on Elegancia Rom. I have the unlimited $30 plan that has no tethering included.

Nice bonus on AT&T

WiFi hotspot tethering now works for me. On my former AT&T-branded Galaxy S2, this feature was disabled unless I were on the higher-cost data plan, which definitely was not worth it for me. But the unlocked Nexus starts it right up.
This is great for us. For example, when we're on a car trip, my wife can use her Kindle or iPod Touch to access the Internet. Same for anyplace where we don't have a good public WiFi signal.
Be careful. They monitor what type of traffick is transmitted and can figure out that you are tethering. ATT will then automatically enroll you in a tethering plan and charge you for it. It happened to Me with a different device.

While I've heard of this happening often, it's never happened to me even after a whole 6-7 hours of tethering when we didn't have the network set up yet at my new office.

Interesting...does device type have any merit?
Any idea how this would work on the GoPhone plans? They can't really automatically enroll you in anything since it is prepaid.

Are you sure? Yesterday I tethered my Nexus5 with my Nexus7.... and when I opened a chrome browser on the Nexus7, it asked me to upgrade to a tethering plan.
How can I get my Nexus5 to tether without running into this problem......... I know T-Mobile gives you 2.5gigabytes of tethering, but is there no way around this? even if the tethering is from the nexus5 to another android device?
ATT's tethering monitoring is based on APN only (called mobile broadband). Their only method of Engle enforcement is that all their branded phones lock you out of changing the apn in their stock att modified software.
If you're on phone or wap.cingular (and PTA as well in my experience) you can tether a pc all day long. Been doing it for years regularly on my unlocked S2 then my N4, and I'm currently tethered via my N5 on phone and LTE.

So...I don't have to root and freeze the tethering file to tether? I can just go for it on my N5? I am taking a trip with the kids in the car and it would be nice to turn tethering on for their iPads. Leaving tonight and just got my N5 yesterday...so no time today to root.
Thanks in advance.
This has been an advantage of nexus phones since day one. The native tethering app works. Sure the carrier cab still try to block it from their end or cut you off, so don't over do it.

I've always been able to use tethering on T-Mobile, they never said anything to me about it or blocked be.

I respectfully disagree.
I was always on WAP.Cingular APN and tethered with my note and got auto switched to tether plan with mild usage.

I have only received a notification once from ATT about tethering, never happened again and I have not been charged. I think its because my power was out and I really wanted to play battlefield so I just plugged my phone into my laptop and went at it.

This is very odd. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I've done the same on wap.cingular AND others (but no mobile broadband even in the list on my apns) and I've browsed, bittorrented, etc all without issue from a real pc with no user agent hack. Again that was i9100 (tw and aosp), n4 and now n5. To be fair I don't think I've tethered a pc on the n5 yet but my tablets were fine. Maybe because I've got no contact they let me get away with more (doubtful) OR your Samsung ROM restored the apns to default from the Sim on you at some point and added the mobilebroadband apn to the list.
I HAVE been detected on tmo tethering because they detect via browser user agent. ATT does not require a spoofed user agent, as far as I can tell it's ONLY via that apn. So without mobilebroadband in your apn list you should be safe at least on a nexus or other non-carrier\aosp device.

I tether all the time with my Galaxy Express and S4. While on Jury duty I tethered for 7 hours. I never did anything to hide my tethering, just used an app that side steps the phone home thing. I'm on the GoPhone $35 plan, both my phones have been moded to use the dumb phone plans.
In any unlocked phone that feature would work.
