[Q] WIFI seems to drain battery with PACMAN 21,22 ROM - HTC Incredible S

Hi new to this forum.
I did a search and could not find there covered here. Also I'm too new to post in the ROM thread itself.
I know I probably have a battery calibration issue but I do wonder why screen usage is a lower percentage which to me means that other process are using a larger chunk especially WIFI.
Is wifi working harder to get the same signal in the PACman Rom?
Is there something I can do like change Radios for Wifi?
I use a Incredible S with S-off and rooted on Telus Canada network. Wifi is mostly connecting to a Cisco WRT400N connecting at the 2.4GHz band. In the past I I used ICS 4.0.4 ROM stock ungrade released by HTC.
With ICS 4.04. The battery life was 36hours with normal usage. With JB 4.2.2 specifically the PACman rom v21.0.0 and v22.0.1 I seems the battery lasts half of that with normal usage 15hours or so. light usage 19h. I noticed with the PACman ROM that the screen is using up only 49-48% of battery. and Wifi is the next highest with 12-13%. With ICS wifi was not even on the first screen for battery usage. I don't have screen shots or specs for battery usage with the ICS 4.0.4 rom but I do for the PACman ROM. I also noticed that the WIFI "meter" display will have one or two bars (-66 dB) as opposed to with ICS where it would have 3 or 4 out of 4 bars.
For kicks I tried the Nik_Project_X_Rebirth v2.0 and I had the same results as with the HTC vivo ICS 4.0.4 ROM
Thanks.

As far as I recall, all Jellybean 4.2 ROMs were like that. The battery life of this phone wasn't all too good to start with and Jellybean, with all of its other features (dont forget google apps) drain quite a bit. ICS doesnt have all the Google stuff that Jellybean has so battery drain isnt as significant. It might be worth a try to kill the things related to Google in Setting>Apps>Running. Another option would be to use Greenify on the market

Thanks,
I heard about the google apps using more processor and network bandwidth. Google now has been turned off for that reason. I will look into Greenify. Unless it's a display issue it puzzels me about Wfi being 2nd on the battery usage list. With ICS 4.0.4 I recalled transferring 500MB via ES file manager and seeing the file manager on the battery usage list but not Wifi even then.
Is the WIFI code in the kernel? Are all the 4.2.2 roms using the same kernel?

I think its partially connected to kernel and some other stuff as well. And yea, every 4.2.2 ROM here uses dla5244 kernel 3.0 as far as i can remember. Even MIUI v5 uses Kernel 3.0 lol

For me too.

[DISCUSSION] Battery drain issue

I came from CM9 to SlimICS.
First, I found out that when we are using WIFI as internet the drain getting very low compare to HSPDA, when not using the drain is something like 1-2% on CM9 and on SlimICS seems to be the same.
on HSPDA and in place which the signal is not the best WOW it's bad!
Notice: I'm using a mobile provider which don't have 2G and have only 3G.
and another thing, when I'm turning of the internet because I don't have WIFI and neither battery to spend, the battery percent is getting up, I can excuse that on voltages issues, but the main issue the drain is less than 1% per hour, and even less 1% per 2 hours.
I want you guys share your ideas about that, is there apps that manage the synchronizing that will activate every 5-15 minutes? or some powersave mode that will keep us connect to the world (whatsapp you know...), but will sample the internet every 5-15 minutes?
you can setup Juicedefender to do this
What?

Battery issue with Stock ICS/CM9 ?

So I've been testing CM9 for quite a while now and can't help notice the battery life has been reduced heavily compared to Honeycomb 3.x.
Now, I don't mind that my battery life gets a bit shorter as ICS brings more features and might be more power hungry. But I went from my tab being able to hold a charge in standby mode in 3 weeks to barely 3 days. And if I use it more heavily, it barely holds a day, which is worse than my Motorola Atrix and that's just not normal.
Now, I've been discussing this with pershoot and for him it must coming from something I do. Honestly I don't see what. In the Honeycomb days, I used to have so many apps installed (may 100-150) and battery life was fine. In CM9, I'm running 50 apps, the essential ones. All the apps that could be power hungry have those settings set to off. No push notifications, very large updates intervals (a day) or none when possible. Also, I run most on these apps on my Atrix (which has more apps installed) and my battery life is way better on the Atrix.
In usage itself, I don't see any change, it seems the tab consumes the same amount of battery than before. It's the sleeping battery life that is terrible. In my case, in sleep mode, wifi is off, brightness is set to Auto and data is off (not the signal itself but I tried to take off the SIM and the battery life is the same).
Honestly, not having to care about charging every day is a must feature for a tablet.
I'm running now RS125 ICS, based on stock and the issue is also there. So I wouldn't say it's something related to CM9 but more on how ICS behaves with our tab.
I've read report of other people complaining (with the 10.1 also) so I wonder if it's a general issue. Could you please fill the poll so we can see if there's an issue and if so, how could we identify it ?
Don't hesitate to describe your tab usage and battery life !
Thanks !
For me worsts battery life was with the official 3.0.1. 3.1 was big improvement. 3.2 and 4.x were a little bit better than 3.1.
Got gmail and exchange push notifications turned on, but most of the time the tab is connected to the wi-fi, not to the 3G network
Attached is my personal stand-by record on the 10.1v. I think it was with one of the first pershoot's CM9 roms
Hi Danny,
Same for me. Especially the standby mode I see a battery drain.
By the way, somehow my battery usage is not working since I moved to the official ICS ...
Cheers
No problem @all. Stock 4.0.4 with OC kernel.. Looks like this:

High battery drain while using WI-FI.

Hello.
I recently flashed my P970 with Mackay Rom (Android 4.2.2). It's a little laggy sometimes, but mostly it works well.
There is only one thing that bothers me and that's a high battery drain while using 3G and WI-FI, espiecially WI-FI.
Currently I am using 2G and that works for me (I can turn on 3G while I need) but I have to turn off WI-FI while not using phone because it's draining whole battery only for one night. When I was on stock I had permanetnly turned on WI-FI and battery drain wasn't so high.
It's only because of 4.2.2 on this phone or it's something with this ROM?
I wanted to post in official Mackay ROM thread, but I don't have enough posts to do it.
Thanks in advice.

May be a 4.2.2 issue, I always have 3G enabled (Wifi sometimes) and battery drain is ok. Using Marvel V11 (4.0.4)
If you'd noticed, or if you didnt, check your dBm and then, note it. Also, mackay may not have WLAN tweaked, so the module for WLAN may be stock and should be draining quite quickly. So take note of that

4.2.2 kernel for improving battery life?

Hello folks,
I got a SGS with carbon custom rom. It is running Android 4.2.2 . My battery life is pretty bad, i lose like 30% over night. I already reduced screen brightness but mobile standby still eats a lot of battery.
Would a new kernel solve my issue? Can someone recommend one, please?
Thank you.

It's not kernel. Install gsam Battery Monitor and check which apps are draining your battery. And check your wakelocks .
Try to greenify apps like viber, facebook etc
As you are also using 4.2.2 it has battery drain fast bug.

I use Semaphore on CM 10.2 (Android 4.3.1) but it is available for 4.2.2 and there are spme option for explame, deep sleep, maxbe it can help you ...

4.2.2 based ROMs have in general very high battery consumption. On the i9000 4.2.2 gives the very shortest battery life.
CM10.2 works much better, provides around 50% longer battery life and is faster
Thanks for your answers. I checked battery usage and wakelocks but there are no abnormalities. The highest amount of wake lock is caused by exchange but it doesn't seem to be the culprit of my battery problem. The device is awake only 9% of the time.
I found that mobile data causes the drain. When turning it on and tethering the connection I lose half my battery within 20 minutes. The battery usage is about the same when only using mobile data, without the tether.
I have installed semaphore, it gives me excellent standby times when not using mobile data...(2% over night)
2 questions: would flashing a new modem/radio solve my problem?
Is 4.3 suitable for daily usage? My current ROM is very stable and I wouldn't want to upgrade to 4.3 if it doesn't work well.
Also, I need tethering, does that work on cm10.2?
Thank you
UPDATE: I flashed Android 4.3, semaphore kernel and a new modem. I will observe the battery consumption over the next few days.

[Q] CM 11 official nightlies - wifi, battery and stability

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues with the latest official CM 11 (http://www.cmxlog.com/11/maserati/#)?
1. The biggest issue I have...Wifi doesn't switch to LTE when the phone is out of the wifi network range unless I manually turn off wifi. Is there a setting I could modify?
2. Battery drain seems higher than on the stock rom. Processes that use more than I remember are Android system and Android OS. I have BetterBatteryStats installed. Is there something I should look for?
3. There is more RAM available which makes the ROM seem more fluid than stock at times, but I experience an occasional freeze and reboot.
How is Stargo's CM ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535705) different than the official ROM?
Because I have fewer than 10 post I was unable to post to the ROM section. I hope this is OK.
Stargos rom is much much better than the officals, wifi switches to lte just fine, good connection to mobile as well, don't have random reboots really. Only funny thing I get is xda vanishes every time I reboot or update the nightly

Ive had battery issues too with CM11. After charging all night and it showing 100% it dies with 4-5 hours with me not even on it. As of today i bought a replacement battery and installed it. It 2100mh battery than original 1785mh. I got for 20 bucks off E bay. Hopefully this well help my phone. I love my D4 and the CM 11 make it sweet. I report any new changes. I really hope it not CM 11 and wasn't the battery but after almost 2 1/2 years I think battery was going weak.
I've used Stargo's CM11 for a bit and it worked great switching between LTE and Wifi. The Battery life was pretty great too. I have not used the official CM11, but Stargo's is pretty solid.
I've been trying the SlimKat build out, but the latest install won't boot, so I may switch back to stock or Stargo.
The only issue I really had with Stargo's was I would have to get a separate MMS app to be able to get MMS messages as the APN did not work for MMS for some reason.
Question about Stargo's mod: If I'm running the CM11 Snapshot M1 build, can I flash Stargo's version right over top of that, or do I have to wipe my ROM slot and start from scratch?
I've been using Stargo's ROM for a couple of days now, and I like it very much. The thing that strikes me most is how FAST it is, significantly faster than CM 10.1 which I was using before. UI elements load faster, apps load faster, my phone is just generally snappier and more enjoyable to use. Battery life seems just slightly less good than CM 10.1 - I was at 50% by the end of the day, after moderate use. The only issues I've seen so far are with GPS and MMS - GPS seems to lose its fix every now and then... using the app GPS Essentials I'm seeing the satellite lock drop randomly after acquisition. It seems to bork up Google Maps navigation a little, but I haven't tested it extensively. Using Go SMS Pro I was unable to send MMS.
But these aren't really dealbreakers for me - other people can send MMS just fine, so there might just be something screwy with my phone.
