Don't know if it's a known problem, I'm with Miui milestine since 19.11 ver.
at first have a battery issue, had a little research and find out how to check if phone sleeps when locked. from then and on, I noticed phone sometimes won't go to sleep (after discconecting from charger, after playing with 3g, WIFI, GPS on/off)
soultion from me right now is playing with 3g, WIFI, GPS on/off,
when phones goes to sleeps battery is good, but I had enough turning 3g off check battery stats. lock the phone, open it, check again etc..
Does anyone know about the problem?
Soultion?
I'm running currently MIUI 31.12 on GOT 2.2.1 kernel (ITALY_WIND)
On these unofficial ROMs, batt life is always an issue. I'm using GOT 2.2.1 and have to turn off data and wifi if I want my charge to last over 24 hrs.

So I'm guessing its unofficial rom problem?
Hoping for official rom soon...

I came from CM9 to SlimICS.
First, I found out that when we are using WIFI as internet the drain getting very low compare to HSPDA, when not using the drain is something like 1-2% on CM9 and on SlimICS seems to be the same.
on HSPDA and in place which the signal is not the best WOW it's bad!
Notice: I'm using a mobile provider which don't have 2G and have only 3G.
and another thing, when I'm turning of the internet because I don't have WIFI and neither battery to spend, the battery percent is getting up, I can excuse that on voltages issues, but the main issue the drain is less than 1% per hour, and even less 1% per 2 hours.
I want you guys share your ideas about that, is there apps that manage the synchronizing that will activate every 5-15 minutes? or some powersave mode that will keep us connect to the world (whatsapp you know...), but will sample the internet every 5-15 minutes?
you can setup Juicedefender to do this
What?

Hi new to this forum.
I did a search and could not find there covered here. Also I'm too new to post in the ROM thread itself.
I know I probably have a battery calibration issue but I do wonder why screen usage is a lower percentage which to me means that other process are using a larger chunk especially WIFI.
Is wifi working harder to get the same signal in the PACman Rom?
Is there something I can do like change Radios for Wifi?
I use a Incredible S with S-off and rooted on Telus Canada network. Wifi is mostly connecting to a Cisco WRT400N connecting at the 2.4GHz band. In the past I I used ICS 4.0.4 ROM stock ungrade released by HTC.
With ICS 4.04. The battery life was 36hours with normal usage. With JB 4.2.2 specifically the PACman rom v21.0.0 and v22.0.1 I seems the battery lasts half of that with normal usage 15hours or so. light usage 19h. I noticed with the PACman ROM that the screen is using up only 49-48% of battery. and Wifi is the next highest with 12-13%. With ICS wifi was not even on the first screen for battery usage. I don't have screen shots or specs for battery usage with the ICS 4.0.4 rom but I do for the PACman ROM. I also noticed that the WIFI "meter" display will have one or two bars (-66 dB) as opposed to with ICS where it would have 3 or 4 out of 4 bars.
For kicks I tried the Nik_Project_X_Rebirth v2.0 and I had the same results as with the HTC vivo ICS 4.0.4 ROM
Thanks.

As far as I recall, all Jellybean 4.2 ROMs were like that. The battery life of this phone wasn't all too good to start with and Jellybean, with all of its other features (dont forget google apps) drain quite a bit. ICS doesnt have all the Google stuff that Jellybean has so battery drain isnt as significant. It might be worth a try to kill the things related to Google in Setting>Apps>Running. Another option would be to use Greenify on the market

Thanks,
I heard about the google apps using more processor and network bandwidth. Google now has been turned off for that reason. I will look into Greenify. Unless it's a display issue it puzzels me about Wfi being 2nd on the battery usage list. With ICS 4.0.4 I recalled transferring 500MB via ES file manager and seeing the file manager on the battery usage list but not Wifi even then.
Is the WIFI code in the kernel? Are all the 4.2.2 roms using the same kernel?

I think its partially connected to kernel and some other stuff as well. And yea, every 4.2.2 ROM here uses dla5244 kernel 3.0 as far as i can remember. Even MIUI v5 uses Kernel 3.0 lol
For me too.

Has anyone else had this problem? since upgrading to a 4.3 sense based rom (tried 3 different roms), my battery life has become horrible..i can barely get 2 hours of screen on time whereas i used to get 4+ on 4.2.2 roms.
i know alot of people have said that 4.3 improves battery, but it hasnt for me, its done the opposite.
also has anyone noticed strange heating up of the device? for example in asphalt 8 the device thats slightly hot and then cools down while playing. but in games like candy crush or zynga poker the device continuously gets hotter and hotter..
tips/fixes/stories anyone?
Mine has been really good. Like, 3-4 hours screen time good. When I'm on wifi (N only, G wifi drains a lot) my battery percent just flatlines on the graph until I pick up the phone again. Sounds like a rogue app since I don't have this issue. I run ARHD 20.1.

I'm running arhd 20.1 aswell. And I would LOVE to see that happen again, my battery drains around 10% overnight, and I'm a really late sleeper, so that means in 5 hours it's lost 10% on standby..and it's weird cause WiFi shuts off after about two hours,so I know that's not causing the problem.
App usage shows android system as the app using the most battery. When I check in the morning it shows android system and kernel to be the top two users.
Could it be a radio problem? I've seen a decrease in signal since ive upgraded to the 4A.17 radio from firmware 2.24.
I'm thinking about flashing the minsense Rom or even a ge rom and see if that helps the problem.
It doesn't seem to be a rogue app cause I actually have less apps then I did on 4.2.2, and none that are new..

I'm still running the current T-Mobile firmware, not 3.x. (I'm still S-ON with hboot 1.44) Thought that was worth noting.
Have you tried putting the phone on WCDMA/GSM auto instead? If your LTE signal is weak (or any kind of signal is weak in general) I see this phone's battery life usually take a nose dive. It has so far from my testing saved me a ton of battery to switch the phone manually into GSM only when I'm inside a building at work to get more bars, then switch back to LTE auto when I leave. Try leaving it on overnight on different radio settings, and with and without wifi. It could be a cell radio drain. And btw get GSAM battery monitor, the stock stats don't seem right to me. Android System being high in the HTC battery stats tells you nothing really from what I'm seeing so far.

the funny thing is i dont have data, since i get wifi wherever i am. i also think its a radio problem though, my gsm signal never seems to be full, and people constantly tell me on the phone that they cant hear me. so what im doing (right now) is flashing a ge rom, specifically sinless rom, then im going to flash the new ge radio, 4A.18, and see how that plays out, prolly going to flash a 4.3 kernel aswell so i can uc to 162mhz or whatever the value is.
i seriously believe its the radio+lack of kernel on 4.3 sense roms that are causing this problem for me. so once this is all done ill test it for the rest of the day and see how it goes. thanks so much for your help

If you don't use any apps, of course system uses the most.
You need to check for wakelocks. If you have unexpected battery drain, it's likely that the phone is not sleeping properly, i.e., being kept awake. Betterbatterystats, gsam, wakelock detector etc.
What was the change in signal attenuation, or are you just saying the the display bars are different?

i use apps, just nothing new compared to when i was on 4.2.2.
and no wakelocks according to gsam, i lost 20% overnight (7 hours)
i dont get what it is. i upgraded the radio to 4.19 now, but for the signal issues, it included lower bars, bad audio in calls, and random loss of wifi.
i removed basically every app, besides some essentials like facebook, whatsapp, and a few others.
i tried switching to an ge rom, but i just cant stay on it for too long, vanilla android is so plain compared to sense.
so the last thing i can think of, is a rom known for its battery life. not asking for a comparison, just your opinion in which rom gives the best battery on 4.3. any suggestions?

Charge your phone up all the way, put it in airplane mode, and unplug it for an hour then don't touch it. Then post your battery percentage. If it isn't still 100 or 99 then you have a more severe problem that actually relates to the battery itself.

Show us a graph of your signal strength from GSAM, and show us a screenshot with how many bars you have. At least you know now that the battery is definitely not shot. It is probably mobile data related...hmm did you ever try letting the phone sit with mobile data disabled as well? It should drain almost as minimally as airplane mode.

its absurd i know..its already down to 93% with 9 minutes screen on..
and its a dual band router, im normally connected to the 2.4ghz band, and its with wireless ac, which the one supports. Which is weird cause i thought ac improved battery life..
edit: im an idiot, wireless ac only works on 5ghz bands, but that still doesnt explain the drain on wireless n..as my previous router was also wireless n

Have you tried 5 ghz N by forcing the router or your phone to operate only at N speed? I use a TP-Link dual band N router and I remember seeing s drain of about 4 percent overnight for 8 hours of full idle with full sync.
I have tried with both 2.4ghz n and 5.2ghz ac, same problem persists
Awake is 3x screen on, I don't think that's normal, somethings keeping the phone awake much longer

so ive done a bunch of other tests, and i can confirm its wifi thats causing this massive drain, not wakelocks, not roms, or anything else.
when the phone is left with wifi on, but not being connected to any network, battery drain is minimal overnight.
its the same on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands, so it this a router problem? if so, do you know any tips that could fix it?

i have no option for best wifi performance, just "wifi optimization". i found the problem, it has something to do with my new router and its bad compatibility with android devices. the phone seems to be awake 2x the screen on time and the main culprit is "wlan_rx_wake" wakelock
Hello folks,
I got a SGS with carbon custom rom. It is running Android 4.2.2 . My battery life is pretty bad, i lose like 30% over night. I already reduced screen brightness but mobile standby still eats a lot of battery.
Would a new kernel solve my issue? Can someone recommend one, please?
Thank you.

It's not kernel. Install gsam Battery Monitor and check which apps are draining your battery. And check your wakelocks .
Try to greenify apps like viber, facebook etc
As you are also using 4.2.2 it has battery drain fast bug.

4.2.2 based ROMs have in general very high battery consumption. On the i9000 4.2.2 gives the very shortest battery life.
CM10.2 works much better, provides around 50% longer battery life and is faster
Thanks for your answers. I checked battery usage and wakelocks but there are no abnormalities. The highest amount of wake lock is caused by exchange but it doesn't seem to be the culprit of my battery problem. The device is awake only 9% of the time.
I found that mobile data causes the drain. When turning it on and tethering the connection I lose half my battery within 20 minutes. The battery usage is about the same when only using mobile data, without the tether.
I have installed semaphore, it gives me excellent standby times when not using mobile data...(2% over night)
2 questions: would flashing a new modem/radio solve my problem?
Is 4.3 suitable for daily usage? My current ROM is very stable and I wouldn't want to upgrade to 4.3 if it doesn't work well.
Also, I need tethering, does that work on cm10.2?
Thank you
UPDATE: I flashed Android 4.3, semaphore kernel and a new modem. I will observe the battery consumption over the next few days.
