OOOPS Nevermind.
2) Download the firmware
Download one of the following:
[C6603] Generic Nordic 10.1.A.1.434
[C6603] Generic UK 10.1.A.1.350
If you can source a different FTF for your region, you can use that instead of the above files. However, the above files will work on any Xperia Z (C6603) handset and provide numerous language options.

Hi, although I'm not new to Android I am new to any sort of flashing.
Dedranding me xperia z and getting rid of all of Threes bloatware definitely interests me but I have a couple of questions. Once the debranding has been done will all future updates then come from Sony or will they still come from Three? And would that then mean the phone would have to be re-debranded after any updates?
Would I need to unlock my phone from the network?
Also, I assume other than the bloatware all the other features and apps all remain unchanged?
Thanks

Updates will come from Sony, you will get the generic updates at the same time as all sim free users.
Unlocking your phone is different to the branding. You can put any stock rom on your phone, so any networks version or any generic version, but your phone will still be SIM locked to your network until you pay for it to be unlocked.

Just checked and it appears that there is a new FW certified. I hope this is for the UK generic as I have not received the 7.0.A.3.195 or .197 FW yet. I am still running 7.0.A.1.303.
Why not just flash the ftf?

The 195 firmware in the all-in-one thread is for Vodafone UK (and one for O2 UK I've just seen added.)
Just like Batman, I'm waiting for the generic UK version. Up to you though SWFlyerUK.
Any difference between them?
My phone was bought from and locked to Orange.

Thats fine, but all you have to do is remove the bloatware and you will end up with a debranded FW, that is of course if you want to root, and on this FW you need to unlock the bootloader to do that.

none at all, you will just get some extra vodafone bloatware apps that can be removed with titanium backup, again with the proviso you want to root.
Thanks for the quick response, determined not to mess with this phone, so it's rooted but will keep bootloader locked and stock firmware

Hi all please help me
My phone was bought from and locked to Orange.
Orange blocks fastboot and assumes simlock.
can i unlock My bootloader? if so, how.
due to the original method: allowed-NO
(so sorry my english is poor)
Goto the dial pad and type
#*#*service*#*#
Look for the menu to see if bootloader unlocking is allowed.
If it is then follow my guide in the all in one thread on how to unlock via the official Sony way

No, not that I know of. Sorry.
Can someone who has an unbranded Xperia Z with UK FW please dump/create a FTF and post the ROM here?
The only generic FW posted here is from a demo device unfortunately.
Thanks.
I got mine from Carphone Warehouse earlier today and I haven't touched it yet so I might be able to help. Not sure how to make a ftf from it though..

That'd be awesome though it's a bit of work...
The basic instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27031352
Note that doing this WILL re-flash your phone (because the update can't be stopped after it has downloaded) so you may not want to go ahead.
You will also need to use the beta Flashtool for Xperia Z to actually decrypt the files. Then you can load them up in full Flashtool and proceed to make FTF out of it (I think, didn't do this myself, I stopped after decrypting them).
I would suggest not doing this if you're not tech savvy.
+1 for this, im expecting mine to be vodafone branded, that'll annoy me pretty quickly!

In the meantime you can safely flash the French generic firmware posted here. It's full-retail and I've been using it. As all firmwares in this part of the world are multilingual anyway there isn't much difference.
But yeah, UK FW would be nice...
Question: if I flash non-branded firmware (French for example) and then use Sony Update Service to re-install my firmware, which firmware will it download? French unbranded? The branded one I had before from my carrier? UK unbranded?

Looks simple enough. I'll have a look at doing this in a little while. At the moment, I'm just doing some modding of SystemUI which I'll post about when I'm done. Then I can sort this out for you.

It re-downloads the currently running one. If you already reflashed the phone and didnt note down your SI you may never go fully back to stock if you cant find the FTF of the exact firmware you were originally running.

Ok, so my question is what if I unlock my phone? Is it just the same as De-branding my Galaxy S?
I debranded my Galaxy S because it was branded by Tmobile. I wanted to get the latest android versions, so I had to do that. (Tmobile NL always comes with the phone updates after half a year if not a year)
So now my question is, is unlocking the bootloader the same as de-branding? When the 4.2 update comes I would love to have it and not wait 3 years.
Thank you for reading, hope someone can give me advice or tips!
Unlocking the bootloader does not de-brand your phone, nor does making it simlock free.
I have a simlock free Xperia Z with a unlocked boot loader and also use T-mobile, but the T-mobile bootsplash is still there.
Iam pretty sure there must be ways to remove the splash when unlocked, but just unlocking itself will not de-brand it.
Lets hope someone can tell us how to get rid of this.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Ah oke, that clears some up. Now i just have to find a way to de-brand it. I hate the Tmobile brand. Just because they are just so late with their updates.... I buy a new phone and want to keep up-to-date.... Not get out-dated
To get rid of the T-Mobile stuff you just need to flash an unbranded firmware to your phone. Check the forums for how to do all that.

That makes sense. Do you think it will slow down my phone or something like that? Or lower the battery life?
Iam kinda sure it will not slow down the phone.
However I will wait for 4.2 to release and will then flash a unbranded firmware.
If not to many bugs are reported in 4.2 that is, else I will stay on 4.1 a little longer and perhaps look for a way to de-brand it then.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Good point, else we can install and install every week all our apps. :| I already found a solution for me so I dont need to break any Boot loaders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190936 Hope it works and that I can use a Stoch 4.2 firmware from sony then!
When will the 4.2.2 update be released in the UK? Seems like it's been out for a while, yet my phone still hasn't found the update using either OTA or with PC Companion on my laptop.
We don't have the insight to say. Nobody has. And no crystal balls.
4.2.2 has been out for a few days only and is clearly rolling out across the piste.
Just wait patiently or use one of the other Generic ones if you're really that desperate. They're all basically the same apart from minor app differences.
I think Vodafone has released it someone on another forum updated his to 422 via Sony bridge on a Mac.
Never.... (joking)
Considering we were left out of the last few updates wouldn't surprise me if we are the last to get this one.
So I would guess a month

You have a UK unbranded device? Customisation number 1270-7689? Or some other UK device?
Not booting up my PC to find out if this is true or not, as other methods of checking are still showing 434 as the latest available for UK unbranded.
Edit: I see you edited your post. Yes, most are aware that Vodafone have updated

Mines was a VF UK handset upgrade - so branded to them. The phone itself didn't report any system/software upgrades, but as soon as I ran up PCC and plugged it in, PCC kicked off the upgrade.
Just use the Sony original Japanese update it doesn't change the language or anything and everything works out is the official Sony update and u just flash it with a flash tool no wipe of data or anything and u can easily root it with doomlords rooting method. It's a one click root.

Just change to a different generic customization. Some people seem to think that there is something special about UK firmware, but that isn't true at all (except that it seems to get updated last). All customizations contain the same baseband, kernel and core. The only difference is the bundled apps, build.prop and some overlays. I think 'Generic ES' is the best customization to change to. It contains all Sony apps (so you won't lose Video Unlimited or anything), of course it also contains all languages and it seems to get updates first.
Also, please stop asking when an update for a certain customization will be released. Nobody will be able to tell you, so it's completely useless to ask. There are ways enough to check the latest version for your customization. I have a list that I update daily or even multiple times a day, you can also create a browser bookmark to Sony's Firmware Update Server (see same thread) or you can use this web check: http://scavenger.ch/sonyupdate/.
Don't worry, it should come sometime this decade...we might even get the firmware update that everyone else has had for 2 months before 2017...wouldn't that be great?

That doesn't exist. In Japan, the Xperia Z was only available through the carrier NTT DoCoMo, which had a slightly different version with a different model number (SO-02E).
Check this list for the available customizations: [INFO] Latest firmware version per customization (region/branding). For the UK, I would recommend 'Generic ES'.

Downloading the 'Generic TW' FTF and flashing it with Flashtool, or changing your customization number in build.prop and updating with Sony PC Companion will give exactly the same result. 'Generic TW' is the only customization that has been updated for C6602. It also seems to get updates first each time. So I recommend to use that firmware.
I will sell my XZ and buy Galaxy S4 i think, its not about changing customization etc it shows how Sony treat UK customers...

Do you really care so much about the 'Generic UK' customization? It's not like it contains any special features that can't be found in other customizations.

Two days ago I purchased the Z1 from a local retailer (Tel Aviv, Israel), not realizing that it was the C6902.
The problem is that its customization version is 1278-3595_R1A (software: 1272-6084_13.1.G.2.257.)
I hadn't realized that .257 cannot be rooted prior to updating to it because the OS prompted me to shortly after I first booted it up, so I was hoping to downgrade to .535, root, and update it to 4.3, and then install a custom ROM.
However, I gather from the thread with all the FTF collections (here) that no customization versions of 1278-3595_R1A exists. Does this meant that I can neither root nor install a custom OS?
(why I figured this is important: here.)
In conclusion, I assume that C9603 will get better and quicker dev support, so should I return my current C9602 and purchase the C9603 online (Ebay) while I still can?
Bonus question: why the hell does the C6902 even exists if it's just the C6903 without the LTE? Better to have it and not use it -- no?
(Note: LTE, or any form of 4G networks, including WiMix, is and will be unavailable here in Israel for the foreseeable future - at least to the general public.)
Thank you.
Just noticed that the title should be "C6903 vs. C6902 + Customization Version". I mistakenly misplaced the two digits in C6903.
