Hey Everyone,
I am stuck right now and I am not sure where to go from here. I am not going to go into the story on why it happened, I'll just tell you guys what happened to makes things easy.
I rooted my phone without unlocking the bootloader using this method:
[ROOT] Xperia Z for LOCKED, UNLOCKED bootloaders! [Exploit by: goroh_kun & huhka_com]
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186368
Using ROM Toolbox Pro I attempted to change the background colour of the status bar.
Phone was restarted by the app.
Problem begins:
Phone won't start.
It will boot with the Sony logo, followed by the XPERIA logo... followed by it shutting down.. and it will keep repeating this until I force shutdown the phone (Power + Volume Up).
I can connect it to the computer via Fastboot Toolbox using the Fastboot tool. I have no idea where to go from here. I tried to reflash a generic .ftf rom, but I am just stuck at the part where it's telling me to unplug USB and reconnect it while holding back button (Volume Up for Xperia Z?), but it does not register it.
Any advice or solution would be a great help as I've tried searching around and could not find anything for hours now..
Thank you everyone in advance and I really appreciate it.

Thank you very much for the prompt response. Good to hear from someone after being in the dark for hours searching.
That was the first thing I've tried doing, but the update service requires the phone to be in an on state to begin with. Will revisit that option again in case I missed on something,

Yeah.. I see that it's different..
I'm now stuck at the "Connecting your phone" holding the volume down key bit, it'll detect a device, installs the drivers for the first time (SEMC Flash Device), but nothing happens. This is what happens.
*Holds Volume Down* & Plug in USB
SEMC Flash Device can be seen connected under Device Manager>USB controllers
*silence*
SEMC Flash Device disconnects and phone reboots into the previous state (Sony + XPERIA logo, restart)

Mine is not flashing any colour. I will hear the USB connect tone, and that's it. Nothing happens. No LED flashing, no moving of the update software. This will then be followed by a USB disconnect tone after a while and back to the loop again, Red LED>Sony Logo>Red LED off>XPERIA logo>phone switched off for a brief moment only to loop.
Maybe restart the pc and change the usb port that you are using.

that sounds like you have the phone plugged into USB ? you are supposed to start Sony update without phone plugged in...and only plug it into usb when the sony update prgram tells you to, then you are only to plug just the USB cable into computer, make sure phone is completely off , wait 30 secs , hold down the volume key then plug USB cable into phone,

Looks like it's my desktop thing. Restarted the thing 3-4 times and swapped to almost every USB port at the back.
It's being detected by my laptop. Will update everyone on the progress. Looking good so far. Thanks for the support so far, really appreciate it.
Edit: Download complete. Installing software in the phone. Looks like it might be going well. Stupid desktop, I thought it was an issue with the phone all along. >.<
Edit 2: Running fine now. I see the colourful smoke animation. Cheers. Now if only I can buy the three of you coffee. Cheers

Hi Guys,
Flashed v2 of the kernel using flashtool and it seemed to randomly reboot and crash and be quite laggy etc for some reason.
Rebooted the phone a few times and phone seemed to work and went into sleep. Tried to turn phone on and it is acting as if the battery is as flat as a pancake, no lights nothing on the screen and won't turn on.
Have tried to charge it overnight and still nothing.
Only used the phone for 2days so not sure if it has bricked or it is just a coincidence and the phone was faulty?
Xperia T was running Android 4.1.2 Build 9.1.A.0.489 with bootloader unlocked
Thanks

Tried holding the volume up button whilst connecting the USB and also with the volume down button to no avail.

No joy unfortunately, just tried this on another PC to rule that issue out as well.
It's looking like i'm going to have to send it back for a repair me thinks?

I know i'm probably clutching at straws, but is there absolutely anything else I could try?
Put it on charge and eave it for 24 hours.
Sometimes this brings it back to life.
I take it you have done the hold power button and volume up button for 30-40 seconds untill it vubrates 3 times and then tried to turn it on.

Yeah, tried that a few times, unfortunately nothing happened no vibrate or anything.
Will try putting it on charge again for 24 hours and then see what happens, had the phone on charge at the plug socket for around 8 hours last night but nothing change, no charging light or anything else.
I will try sending it back to the supplier I got the phone from if it doesn't spring back to life after charging for 24hours , I'm presuming that in the UK it could be just a simple swap?
Depends on the retailer/network. I worked for a UK network for 5 years. Outside of 7 days a device went off for a repair. Cpw do a 28 day exchange, not sure about all networks etc you'd have to check the returns policies.

I think what I should be asking really is that if they insist on a repair, would they go the whole hog to test if it had been flashed with non sony stuff, would that be highly likely or just simply swap the motherboards without question?

I've let the phone charge for a few hours and now when trying to turn on the phone, the notification led now flashes red where as before it would not do anything when trying to turn on.
When connecting the phone to PC it still isn't detected.
Ive tried to search for what the notification colours mean but couldn't really find anything.
Is this anything hopeful?

Yes, but leave it on charge untill tomorrow...then try the hard reset and turn on.
Then just keep it on the charger. Red led means low battery

Plugged it back in to the wall charger and it had a solid red light for around 5mins which I haven't had before when trying to charge it.
Will leave it plugged in now till tomorrow.

From my experience the warranty states if you modify the software it voids the warranty. If it's bricked it could be a pcc brick, a friends XT died that way.
So an engineer may just say it's faulty and exchange it. Hard to say but from what you've said it may come back on now it's charging.
Similar issue with my xperia s but it came back on after several minutes

Hi Greg,
Left the phone on charge over night and have tried connecting the phone to PC and managed to get some kind of response when holding either the volume up button or volume down button and connecting to PC and detects the phone as a USB input device for just a second or so, the phone will then have a red LED light again after this.
I connected the phone to PC so I could monitor anything that happened easier and noticed that every now and then the red light will come on for a few seconds and then go off again.
Could I possibly have not left the phone on charge long enough at the plug socket?
Hi,
I had the same problem. When the light turns red wait until the light goes out. Make sure you have flashtool open and make sure you only flash the kernel. Now when the red light goes out hold volume down and plug in the usb cabel connecting to your pc, a green light wil appear. Now really fast flash only the kernel. The phone will go into a bootloop once and goes out again. Now put on the homecharger and wait untill it is about 50 percent. Now put the phone on and everything works as before.

There doesn't seem to be a Build 9.1.A.0.489 (phone had android 4.1.2 and phone is factory unlocked) in the Kernal section in your thread unless I am missing the point?

Sorry for acting dumb.
I've already ask this question on sonymobile forum, but have no result. Trying to post it here.
I upgrade my Z1 to 4.4.2 and get the next issue.
When I switch off my phone with long press power button -> "swich off phone", its successfully shutting down but after 5-10 sec. show startup SONY logo then swich off display then show logo again and so on endlessly...
It was very unexpectedly, when I swich off Z1 and put it into pocket, after cuple of days I found it totally discharged. I cant make phone alive with wall charger and only 2-3 hours on USB charger can reanimate Z1.
I was try everything what I read no docs and forums, reflash with SUS and sony PCC, flash different versions of FTF via flashtool, boot on safe mode etc, but nothing helps
Is there software problem with shutdown loop or problem with battery controller or something else? How can I fix it? Any considerations?
P.S. Small "force shutdown" button or Power+VolUp combination sometimes helps to shutdown phone.
Power and vol+ force reboot, not shutdown, to force shutdown u need to push the tiny red button in the sim location.
I suggest you to reflash your phone with a tft file or with SUS, 4.4.2 brings many drain battery problems.

Try to start from scratch:
1. Wipe internal sdcard
2. Eject (pull out) you external sdcard
3. Re-flash FTF (don't thick anything, let it default flash configuration)
4. Don't try to restore any app or data from old firmware version.
5. Check if the problem still persist

I guess find the decision.
Enable "Developer options" enter in it and check the checkbox "don't keep activities". Shut down with power button was OK. Now waiting for autoshutdown after battery discharged.. After uncheck this options back, the problem does not appear.
I have problem like you ,i try to ask many times but no resolve.

Now I need to hold power+volume up to turn off phone completely or when press reboot in the recovery

Hello. I have the same issue with my unhappy Z1. First of all, don`t use high almerage chargers, ie sony wall charger, it has 1.5A. Try to plug low amperage tools, for example try to plug phone to your computer via USB, it has 0.5A in USB2.0 and 0.9A in USB3.0. Put the phone chargeing for 1-2 hours and DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!
After that long press (5-10 sec) on small red clit (power shutdown button), and then try to power up the phone normally with power button. If all ok, left phone charge for full battery.

Hi all,
I have a Sony Xperia Z from my friend, the problem is that the phone won't turn on. I've been pressing all the button combinations (power + volume up; power + volume down; power + vol up + vol down), and nothing happens, no vibration, no Red LED blinking whatsoever.
The only "vital" sign it gives is the Red LED when you plug it on the charger or on the USB on the Pc (detects nothing).
I've left my device charge overnight (9+ hours) and nothing has changed.
My friend told me the phone kept rebooting it self (don't really know what caused this as himself couldn't explain) to the point the device didn't turn on anymore.
I really don't know what has happened to the phone. I've been trying to find on the forums about this but other people say the phone vibrates or the Red LED starts to blink, to my phone nothing!
Any help, suggestion, thought from personal experience is Highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
-aaronkatrini
Have you tried holding volume down when connecting it to your PC? That should enter Flashmode. If it does, then you can try flashing a stock rom.
If not, try volume up when connecting to your PC, which should enter Fastboot mode.
If none of those work, it looks like either a hardware error, or a corrupted bootloader. Neither of those are repairable by yourself.

hi, thanks, just tried that but it wont recognize at all, I've seen the device manager on my pc and nothing is detected at all. Just the notification LED, it gets Red and nothing happens.
Anything else I can try?
One more question, can I send it for repair to Sony, will my warranty cover it?
It sounds like it needs sending for repair then, unfortunately.
Edit - Yes, warranty should cover it.

I have the Xperia T and I am trying to update to 4.3, I had tried to use flashtool, but the phone isn't recognised by the computer when I plug in the cable holding the down button. Now the update is finally here for me I tried using PCC but again having the same issue. I have tried two different computers and all the USB ports on them. I have also fully switched off the battery (holding down the power and up button keys for 10 seconds).
I am stumped as to what is wrong with the phone??
thanks

Interesting update (well not really), but I did some troubleshooting and stuff and found that when plugging my phone into the charger when it is switched off, it doesn't respond either (i.e. boot up). So I have a feeling that its the actual phone with a fault such as damaged pin in the usb port that relates to power when the phone is switched off?

I have the same problem.
When the phone is turned off it won't charge, either wiht the wall charger or with the USB cable connected to the computer.
I've sent an email to SONY but they told me so sent it to tech support.
It's not very easy to do it where I am so I'm looking for some other options.
I also noticed it when I was trying to update to 4.3.
PC Companion isn´t a solution since it asks to connect the phone to the PC while turned off pressing the volume down button, even to try the repair.
Can someone help?

Have a look at the thread link above, very simple to solve just take off the back cover and disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes
hi all,
so i woke up today, took note of something via small notes app on the phone.
went back to sleep with the phone on the charger.
i wake up, try to turn the screen on (LED light indicated full charge with green light), & the screen does not turn on! i figure my hand was blocking the light sensor so i make certain my hand isnt in the way, & try again, still not response. next thing i do is hold the power button & volume rocker up but all this does is turn the phone completely off(no more green led)!
since then i have been trying, & trying to do the reset of vol up + power with no results.
im afraid the phone is dead, & i have to purchase a new one, but im hoping that there is a last resort tactic i may use to revive the phone.
thanks in advance.
:good:
may someone be kind enough to help?
or to point me to proper thread.
ive searched & only results lead to solution which involves pc companion which ive tried but it is not recognizing my phone.
thanks

Now hold volume down key an connect usb an see whether PC detects it

hi,
thanks for the response.
nope, no response from the phone @ all.
this is so odd that the phone would just literally 'die' out of no where?

Okay,
Have Googled up a bit.
Keep the phone connected to charger to 5-6 hours and then try starting the phone
This method has worked for some users, see whether it works for you :fingers-crossed:
Pc/seus
Hi,have you tried Pccompanion or seus?Ok,now i see that you tried pc companion, but try seus!
Edit:
Ok try this, open Pc companion, now iniciate the support zone,if is not installed it will install.
Now once is installed click on software update of the phone, and it will say that no device was found,so now click on repair my phone.
Hope that works.
hi guys,
UPDATE !!!
although very odd, & puzzling(im not complaining!!) the phone came back to life on its own.
i had just finished watching television with the family, when i take the phone out of my pocket & just out of hope push the power button when all the sudden i felt a faint(but lovely) vibration!! a few secs later the logo screens showed, & the phone booted up as normal.
needless to say i am certainly happy the phone is working.
MOST IMPORTANTLY id like to thank those that took the time from their lives to reply to my call for help. It is HUGELY appreciated!
thanks again. :good::good::highfive::highfive::good::good:
