Is there any way to flash CWM (or TWRP or whatever..) to the XPERIA Z without first getting root permissions or unlocking of bootloader?

Bootloader unlock isn't necessary, but root is mandatory

hi, very happy that we have achived root access with locked boot loader. Now, can we install CWM with locked boot loader? I have checked and found out that the current CWM for Xperia Z required unlocked bootloader.

you answered your question.
Currently there is no custom recovery for a locked bootloader, i believe.
Hey guys i know there is probably an answer in here somewhere but ihave looked everywhere and tried all possible options to get this working. After my pc companion nagging at me to upgrade i bit the bullet and upgraded to JB 4.3 10.4.B.0.569
Afterwards i then found out that it had relocked bootloader and unrooted my phone..
So i went through the sony normal way of unlocked bootloader first of all... this is where i've hit a snag.. first time the Command promp told me it had failed then itried again with my KEY and it said DONE.... now my phone was stuck in a terrifying bootloop. So i then flashed 4.3 firmware using flashtools, and repaired my phone through sony center.... again.. tried to unlock bootloader and was stuck in boot loop. I have re flashed about 4 times and tried to unlock 4 times... still getting boot loops....
Any one care to shed some light on this?
Many thanks
Chris

Is bootloader unlock allowed?
Have you tried relocking it again using flashtool?

Hey
I was playing around with 4.3 all last night and managed to get root on my Z with locked BL,
Here is how I did it..
(Locked bootloader, skip unlocking if already unlocked)
- Flash the .67 firmware via flashtool
- Root 4.2 as you would have
- Unlock your bootloader and Backup the TA partition to relock this without losing any DRM keys
- Using flashtool flash the new firmware .569 (4.3)
- Then flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel
- Boot 4.3 and power down
- Using the recover installed with the kernel flash a superSU.zip from somewhere around here.
- Reboot and you now should have root
[Locked bl]
- Reflash ONLY just .569 kernel from the FTF
- Power on and Restore your TA partition to relock your boot loader and return everything back to normal..but with some root
As for your bootloader not unlocking properly i would first check to see if an unlock is allowed
when i try to flash 4.2 67 firmware..i just got bootloop..please someone help me..what have i done wrong..i still in LB..
Wipe data when flashing.

Just unlock your bootloader through Flashtool when on newest firmware, flash advanced stock kernel, root, flash back stock kernel and re-lock your bootloader. should be working for you, and it wont take that much time :good::good:

If the warranty and features such as Bravia Engine 2 are important to anyone, please don't just follow this. Your DRM keys that allow BE2 to work and your warranty will be permanently lost.
Follow the earlier post in this thread and downgrade, root and backup your TA partition BEFORE unlocking the bootloader.

The only way is, after Relock Bootlader, root your phone on Locked Bootlader and install recovery and then when you are on Locked Bootlader with Recovery you will use the Recovery to backup what you need.
OK so i have a unbranded z1 with this version:
EURO_LTE / 1274-8313_13.2.A.1.136
Customization version: 1276-4321_R1B
With Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes (but not unlocked).
How safe is it to root it ?
From what i have read I am really scared of bricking it like i have read in a big big topic here because the device is only 20 days old ).
Again i know that i should take this:
-Backup original rom with customization version (I did not find that cust vs ftf nowhere)
-Downgrade (Scarry part)
-Root
-Backup TA
-Install recovery
-Flash update/rooted ftf ?
How safe is it ? I am mostly interested because i hate ads and i have some apps that require it.
Also, if kitkat comes, should i update to it? Can we downgrade after (if i want to root it?)
I really was excited with the possibility to flash custom roms/root/unlock bootloader but then i saw that A LOT of users hard bricking their devices.
I am asking this because i had a moto razr before and on that phone once you upgraded you could not downgrade.
Thanks.

If you are using 136 firmware, you don't have to downgrade to get root. All you have to do is unlock your bootlader, flash custom kernel, and flash update.zip. Here are the steps
1. Backup your TA first
2. Unlock your bootloader
3. Flash [RECOVERY] CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.6 + ROOT for Xperia Z1
4. Download the latest SuperSU update.zip from:here
5. Save it on sdcard of device
6. Flash the supersu update.zip
7. Reboot from recovery into OS
8. You have full root access now

Ok, how do i backup TA if i do not have root, before i unlock my bootloader? Your steps presume that i first unlock the bootloader and loose the TA partition, no?

Thanks for this info!
I was all ready to start messing with the pain in the butt downgrading, this is far much simpler!

when i tried TWRP installer nothing happened .
and when i tries to enter recovery mode or download mode nothing happenes what should i do to install one
and by the way what is the best rom for the device

Your bootloader is locked? If yes, you must unlock it in order to install TWRP via installer.
But, if you want a recovery and bootloader locked, the only solution is to install XZ DUAL Recovery
