Hi
I'm in the UK and on the T-Mobile network, I get a better signal in my area (H+) when I choose the network "T-Mobile" rather than "T-Mobile/Orange", the problem I have is that it seems to default to "T-Mobile/Orange" and I have to manually change the network via settings/mobile networks.
Is there anyway for it to choose T-Mobile by default and stay on it?
Kind Regards
Are you selecting network manually. If so have you checked apn settungs to see if you can enter tmobiles details only.
Not sure with them merging there cell towers if you can only select 1 though

Hi Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure about the checking apn settings bit, I've gone into "edit access point" but haven't a clue what I'm looking at!
I'm on T-Mobile aswell and I only have the below fields filled in:
Name: web'n'walk
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
MCC: 234
MNC: 30
APN type: internet
I get about 1.8mb download speed on a H+ signal, although I did hit 4mb once when I was in Central London. My GNote rarely switches over to the Orange signal although I have seen it happen.
Mine is the following:
Name: T-Mobile Internet
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
MCC: 234
MNC: 30
APN type: internet+mms
I get 3.70Mbps Down 0.54Mbps up whilst on T-mobile and 0.81Mbps Down 0.35Mbps up whilst on T-Mobile/Orange! Big difference.
I know there are plenty of global-network related threads on here, but the majority of them were made back before the OTA update and reference the complicated stuff while leaving out the more basic stuff, like *where* to set your APN.
I've got a standard Telus SIM card (from my old Milestone, which was just barely hanging on in a few vital areas... proximity sensor flakes out, headphone jack has been repaired three times, GPS no longer works...) and just trimmed it with scissors based on this guide: w w w . techradar . com /news/mobile-computing/tablets/how-to-make-your-own-ipad-or-iphone-4-micro-sim-681020 (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...) I'll note that I marked which corner of the SIM was "rounded off" before cutting, so I wouldn't lose track. (just make a little mark at the edge of the "chip" contacts in that corner.)
Opening the back of the battery cover without the original opener tool isn't as nice as it could be, but I've successfully used staples and a mechanical pencil tip.
One you put in the SIM and power up the device, you'll get an "unknown SIM" error, but it should still start fine.
After I got through the setup stuff, my phone worked for dialing and receiving calls, but no data. here's what I had to do:
[menu]->[system settings]->[wireless and networks: more...]->[mobile networks]
Make sure [Data Enabled] is checked.
tap [global data roaming access] and set it to [allow access for all trips]
Scroll down to "GSM/UMTS settings" and tap [Access Point Names]
tap the [menu] button and [new APN]
Use these values: (from: androidforums dot com /hero-support-troubleshooting/45005-mobile-network-apn-settings.html#post348959)
Code:
Name: TELUS SP
APN: sp dot telus dot c o m (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...)
Proxy: 74.49.0.18
Port: 80
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: h t t p : / / aliasredirect dot net/proxy/mmsc (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...)
MMS Proxy: 74.49.0.18
MMS Port: 80
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0 (not used, don't see it in my menu)
MCC: 302 (this is already filled)
MNC: 220 (this is already filled)
Authentication Type: <Not set>
APN type: default,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: unspecified (Haven't tried changing this yet.)
tap [menu] and [save], data should be working!
Take a look at my Rogers thread, it will help you get tethering up and running!

Recently connected an ICS Verizon Droid 4 to Telus but am now getting -100 dBm signal both inside and outside the house. Old Milestone never had any signal issues, whatsoever, inside or outside.
I created the Telus APN using the correct settings, which got me H data. Then, I went through the network settings, manually chose Telus, manual set on GSM/UMTS (not global), and set to UMTS only for network. Still only 1-2 bars max, always.
Any ideas or settings to change?

I very rarely see more than 2 bars. My old Motorola xprt was this way until it received an update than the signal meter was more accurate, I think it something you just live with.
Question have you tried to setup call fowarding? It doesn't allow me say I am roaming.

Thanks for the heads up on the bars. As for call forwarding, I haven't attempted to set that up as I haven't needed it.

I plan to purchase this phone and based on the specs I've seen it should have no trouble on the new Telus/SaskTel network here in Saskatchewan (Please correct me if I'm wrong). Just a quick question for those of you who have the phone, can you or do you have to root this phone to delete the unnecessary bloatware that comes on the phone?
Thanks in advance
I've seen some AT&T customers complain about terrible speeds and latency when doing speed tests. I too had this issue. Before the fix, I was getting about 20 kbps downstream and 400+ latency. After, I'm getting 6+ mbps and 80-120 latency. I fixed mine by adding a new APN with these settings. To change them, go to SETTINGS -> MORE... -> MOBILE NETWORKS -> ACCESS POINT NAMES. From here, either select the existing one or click the menu key to create a new one. Also, if you create a new one, make sure to select it after you're done making it. (you have to tap the radio to select it because tapping the name will edit it but NOT select it).
The blank ones are blank/unspecified. You probably only need to change APN and APN type (the other shown values were already like this on mine). For APN type, those are commas separating the terms. I posted a link to 3 shared screenshots so you can see what it should look like.

Do you get H+ insted H?? if u dont mind can you check in Settings, about phone and Status. in mobile network type HSPA:10 or HSPA+:15????
Didn't work for me (data gets disabled), however the only APN settings that have worked so far are the stock ones with wap.cingular.com. I have tried numerous other ones to no avail..

Thanks..I honestly didn't think there was a difference between the LTE and non-LTE plans at AT&T. But my dad is in charge of the plan, so maybe I am missing something.
I'm using the same Stock AT&T PTA apn I've used since the Infuse 4g and it works perfect. Stock APN I couldn't even get 20kbps most of the time. Now I can at least get 5.7 (about what I'm used to in my area).

I'm using the pta APN since I came from an LTE phone so my sim is provisioned for it. I usually got about 8-9mbps down in this location when on my sgs3 so if these speeds stick and improve I'm quite happy. Obviously uploads are the biggest hit but not too worried about that

It wouldn't work for me with the default WAP.Cingular APN. As soon as I changed it to the hspa+ one, speed test worked.
For this of you on the pta APN, does your MMS work? If so, do you still have the WAP.Cingular APN in the list (just not checked)? Or is the pta APN the only one listed?
I too have my Sim provisioned for lte, but if I use the pta APN, I get great data speeds, but no MMS. Thanks.

Many thanks for posting this! My internet donwload speeds went from .001 MBPS download to 2.97MBPS. I hate to say this, but it still felt snappy even at .001 MBPS. My Galaxy S2 was so slow to process websites.
solved minus mms......
I get faster speeds with the new APN, but I can't get H+ in areas where is was able to get it with my S3. Anyone have a solution?
thanks for this!
Posted this on another similar thread. Worked for me. It's the Cingular.WAP APN but slightly different.
"Anybody still having issues with att H+ speeds try the APN settings from this link
http://nerdynerdnerdz.com/blog/2011/07/23/att-apn-mms-settings-android/
My speed increased by 600% when I switched to this, from barely 1Mbps to 6+Mbps. I also can run the speed test app now whereas before I could not."

Yes, add this to the OP and everything will work.
I came across this topic on rootzwiki a while back and it's helped me a few times. Obviously it's for ATT only.

Hi, all
My water and shock proof "go" broke.
I went through loops to get the go working here in Japan in Softbank network
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853922
- only to find out later on that maybe I didn't actually need to modify kernel, boot, ROM, MMS app and all that.
Also later SW update with using PC Companion was obviously a no go, as the phone was now modified.
I am using a black SIM for an SBM iPhone.
So that was my starting point for trying to set up V (LT25i), to go through with it without modifying anything crucial.
Good news, it is possible:
From the box,
1. Connect to PC, no memory card, no SIM card
2. Let PC Companion install whatever it wants to install
3. Ran SW update in PC Companion (upgraded to 4.1.2, build 9.1.A.1.140)
4. Recover stuff from "go" backup, which I luckily could backup before it totally died on me
-Backup/restore
-Find the "go" dbk file
-Migrate
-Choose only things that are not related to the phone workings itself, no settings and such!! Only photos, messages, files, docs, so on.

5. Set internet access point - I put the SIM and mem card in before this step
Name: Smile Internet
APN: smile.world
Username: dna1trop
Password: so2t3k3m2a
MCC: 440
MNC: 20
Authentication type: PAP or CHAP
Click to collapse
Internet will work with that
6. Access point for MMS
Name: Smile MMS
APN: smile.world
Username: dna1trop
Password: so2t3k3m2a
MMSC: http://mms/
MMS proxy: smilemms.softbank.ne.jp
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 440
MNC: 20
Authentication type: PAP or CHAP
APN Type: mms
Click to collapse
7. Install GoSMS from Play Store and in "Settings" - "MMS Settings"
Tick "Fill User Agent manually"
and fill in the "User Agent", I used this one for some old Nokia I found from Modaco
SoftBank/1.0/705NK/NKJ002/SN001 Android-Mms/0.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
http://www.modaco.com/topic/301380-apn-for-internet-mms-apk-for-softbank-users-in-japan/page__st__40
Then tick "Fill APN configuration manually"
and fill in the details:
MMSC: http://mms/
MMS proxy: smilemms.softbank.ne.jp
MMS port: 8080
Click to collapse
And that's it!
Mobile internet and MMS working.
GoSMS sometimes brings double retrieves for some MMS, one of which is empty and dummy, but that bothers me so slightly that I don't care. I don't use MMS that much anyway.
I'd like to get the User Agent String used by Softbank for HTC Desire and/or iPhone4 and 5, but couldn't find any - although I don't think it would make any difference for the functioning of MMS.
This, I suppose, will work for any Sony - or any Android for that matter - out there.
You don't lose the ability to get official updates from manufacturer and can keep the warranty alive, should anything nasty happen.

Softbank is a GSM carrier in Japan.

Indeed, a Japanese mobile operator. No GSM, though.
WCDMA since the beginning of millenium and now lately heavily rolling out LTE.
Used to be part of Vodafone, before that J-Phone.
Now recently they bought one of the biggest operators in North America, Sprint, and are going to expand there as well.
Well, when I said “GSM carrier” I meant that they mainly used the GSM family of standards (unlike just about every other carrier in Japan).
(I use both Softbank and docomo.)
Totally didn't mean to criticize you, mate, you are right - in a way.
While one can argue that some - if not most - of the UMTS standards are inherited from GSM, the whole WCDMA system is based on it's own standards, defined by 3GPP and are separate from those of GSM specs (although encompassing many GSM features).
Obviously we are talking about the same thing, in a bit different terms, that's all.
Softbank - mostly - uses world market products for it's networks

which obviously is good for us, we can use mobiles bought from almost anywhere.
I'm not trying to be a wiseass here, sorry if I came out as such.
I was messing around trying to get LTE to work again and I am hoping it is simply an APN fix. Can someone give me the correct APN settings for Verizon?

stock jellybean?
think it's unlikely an apn issue
my full apn file made with APN Backup & Restore
apn app needs to be moved to /system/pri-app if you want to restore my apns-20140822120801.xml (remove .txt from file name)
from Slim 4.4 build 7.0
Just restored your apns but it only picks up 3G
open dialer
dial
Code:
*#*#4636#*#*
(when you press the last *, testing menu will open)
select phone information
scroll down to
set prefered network type
is LTE/CDMA/EvDo selected?
Just checked and LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) was what it was on. LTE/CDMA auto (PRL) is the closest.
It seems that every time the APN will reset to EHRPD - Verizon Internet. If I try to select the LTE internet option it doesn't even pick up a data signal, and then goes back to EHRPD.
im using CM11 M9 and i have my network type set to
CDMA+LTE/EvDo
my APN is
LTE - Verizon Internet
Name: LTE - Verizon internet
APN: VZWINTERNET

APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: enabled (greyed out with box checked)
Bearer: LTE
MVNO type: none
MVNO value: not set
a few notes for me: whenever i try to switch to CDMA/EvDo auto (3g) it doesnt connect to data until i turn on wifi or set airplane mode for at least 30 minutes then re-enable the radio. if the connection drops for whatever reason i have to redo this step so im better off leaving LTE on all the time because its way more reliable than 3g which is really weird in my opinion and im not sure if its the rom that causes the problem since i installed cm11 as soon as i got this phone
So should I try to set that APN and then put it in airplane mode for an hour or so?
