Yes ive seen some otg adapters that dont use cable but was just wondering if theyd startd making the drives with microusb. I guess not, im sure thats the next step for the drives. ..

Or get one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Right-Angle...emale-OTG-Adapter-Connector-1pc-/170940006572
for $3 plus change shipped, I would recommend right angle connector over straight one since it doesn't protrude too much outside of the case, and just looks cleaner with a phone without anything sticking out; also helps so you don't knock it out. With Sandisk Cruzer you can't even see usb drive, just a little flashing led dot.
I wonder if there is any flash drive will directly mount on micro-USB port.

Not *exactly* but its pretty close, its basically just an otg adapter with a normal drive. One of the benefits of having a dedicated microusb drive would be the size, it woild be able to be smaller that the 'normal' usb drives, much thinner.

I already use a otg adapter. Just for transfering files to a flash drive. I was just wondering if there was a microusb drive I could plug directly into the phone, negating the need for an adapter. Not looking to connect multiple items or hdmi or whatever and connecting an external power supply is just inconvenient, unless I understood it wrong? What benefits do a 11 pin off other than faster connection on multiple items?

Just FYI I had an adapter that looks exactly like this that I'd been using on my galaxy nexus. Doesn't work on my note 2. It almost felt as if it was a little too short to make a good connection.

Couldn't comment on the IC chip they talk about but I have used micro sd readers before with an otg cable with no problem and those cost 1p free delivery from hong kong, they dint get cheaper than that so not sure how significant the ic chip is

My wife has a Captivate and as I hold it side by side with my Focus it looks like head phone and micro usb ports are in the exact same position. So this makes me wonder if this dock will work on the Focus??
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D981BEGSTA
This looks like it would. I found it for around 20 bucks online, maybe it is worth the try.
I'm not sure I would want mine in landscape mode, just because of all those incompatible screen layouts.
yes
By works if you mean does it charge your phone then the answer is yes. I dont think it does anything else. I haven't tried anything else though. Will check when I get home and report back.
Yeah I am wondering if it lines up and charges the phone.
Also, does this dock have the ability to connect to your PC via USB or is it hardwired with an AC adapter?
according to samsung, it is not *guaranteed* to work, and, to answer your question, it looks like there is a microusb slot on the back of it so you probably can connect it to the pc
I saw in the picture on Samsung's website that it looks like it has a micro usb slot, but in the Amazon review people were complaining that you could not connect it to a PC. Now that could be because they did not realize that they could use a micro usb cable instead of an AC adapter but i was not sure.
I guess for $30 it is not that big of a deal if it does not work for me they way I hope.
Thanks
Has anyone tried it yet?
It looks like the Captivate/Vibrant **** has the microUSB port in the right place, but not the Epic.
USB is USB, so as long as the physical location is correct, I can think of no reaso it wouldn't work.
Has anyone actually tried the Vibrant or Captivate dock yet to see if it fits

Depends on what you are using it for, mouse/keyboard/game controllers(I think) do NOT need root. A flash drive or hard drive DOES need root, in which you can use StickMount.

Haha - saw this too late. Already redid everything after rooting. My OTG cables should be here soon. I'm planning to use one "as-is" and the other one I'm going to see if I can mod into my case. I ordered a keyboard case and I'm going to shoot to find some room in there where if I strip down the cable and put a microSD adapter on it I should be able to hide it somewhere!
Thanks!
Wish I had seen your post before. I ordered OTG cables from Amazon, they were cheap but I realized too late that they were shipping from Hong Kong so who knows when I'll be getting them...
something to watch out for... due to the N7's bezel, the OTG cable i purchased does not insert all the way. since its impossible to know yourself, buy ones tried by other members. i have to buy another.. sigh..
I use the Motorola Camera Connection Kit cable found HERE, which was shown by @sleeplessninja HERE.
It is much more expensive then the generic ones but I feel it is better quality.
I use it for keyboard/mouse (use at the same time with USB hub) and a PS3 controller, I actually use a Nyko 3rd party PS3 controller and works fine. All of them work with the N7 out of the box (stock, locked, and not-rooted).

As much as I wanted to buy a cheap OTG, I couldnt wait when I got my nexus ended up ordering the Samsung Official OTG and it works perfectly with the Nexus 7, its not cheap but hey its well constructed and works.

Do you need to root in order to use otg?
I am having some very frustrating problems with my 8GB Nexus7, mainly in that the USB-OTG using stick mount (rooted etc.) just will NOT pick up any drives! I have had a flicker of hope with one but it mounts and dismounts immediately and only after a clean wipe/re-flash. I have tried three different cables and 4 thumb drives to NO avail!
If someone else has experienced this or has an idea how to identify/solve the problem I would be most appreciative.

1. Are the drives formatted as FAT32?
2. Are you sure that the cables you are using are USB-OTG and not a standard micro to standard USB cable?
3. If you have OTA Rootkeeper installed, did you re-root is temp unrooted?
4. Mount and umount can occur if not enough power is going to power the device (see #2).

Can someone post retailer, make and model when they get the info as to which one works
I had to install StickMount (from google play) to get mine to work. It needs root access.
After ordering two of the non cable OTG connectors I found that I wasn't getting any joy, until I modified the moulding at the Micro end.
Reading this thread made me realise that my Micro USB connector was bottoming on the bezel, so , got the old Stanley knife out and cut the moulding away so it had a forty five degree angle on it, and it connected. The angle doesn't really make much difference, but just make sure that the moulding does not bottom on the bezel, which effectively shortens the reach. It worked for me, so might be worth trying provided you haven't paid big bucks out.
Big THANKS to BADGERED for giving me the idea.
Love my N7, so much more useful than the Ipad I had.

Yes, also try to not adb to your device too often and do not charge in the car. Same goes for the headset jack, it is best to stick a "Pluggy" in it and leave it alone.

The finish is in fact a little mediocre(paint) and the mold seems to be just a tad crooked and the cap is a ***** to get back on.But over all it does what it said it would do... You do need to keep an eye on your USB port. A few people have actually wrecked theirs from normal use. Mine is getting looser by the week, with more and more play in it.
I would recommend using this sparingly.

Hey, Thanks for the reply.
But I am looking for a portable single device which I can just slide in my jacket.
I guess I would have to wait.
If you're looking for one you could wait for the Meenova USB C one. I would post a link but I cannot as I am a new user. There is also the WeMe USB C OTG MicroSD sold on Amazon which has two sides. One that can plug into your phone and one that is a USB A. Search it up on Google and you should be able to find it. Hope this helps
Define: "Card reader" MicroSD? I've got one of these that works great, quite tiny as well.

thank you but I am not fond of overseas shopping. and it is not available in my country. I am from India and it would cost me a bomb. I would just wait for some seller to make it available here.

The Meenova is your best bet. Join the group of people waiting for it
If anyone is still looking for one of these, I found another one on Amazon and I'm happy with it so far. It has an aluminum body and seems well made. It's USB C only and has a dust cap you can lose. I was reluctant to buy it, because pretty much EVERY review was from someone that received it free to discounted in exchange for a review.. I tend to discount that type of review when shopping on Amazon, but given the low price decided to take a chance. The "list price" did make me roll my eyes a bit.. :/
I can't post a link, but the item number seems to be B01A1CZBAK and the name is SHARKK USB Type C MicroSD Reader Flash Memory Card Reader.
Edit: now that I can post links.. here is a direct link to save 5 seconds of searching. http://www.amazon.com/SHARKK®-Micro...TF8&qid=1459118835&sr=8-1&keywords=B01A1CZBAK
So far ive had no trouble with mine, though it doesn't seem like the 5X properly ejects it regardless of how you eject it or any other OTG flash drive. Every time I plug a flash drive or SD card in to my PC after having it plugged in to my 5X it wants to scan it for errors. Hopefully an update will address that before I start losing files. Here's what it looks like. I bookmarked the Meenova, but opted for something without moving parts (mostly).
Monoprice has a dual USB-C/USB-A model with a nifty design. The description seems to say that both male connectors are USB 3.0 although based on the photo, I'm not sure about the USB-A plug. Sold on Amazon as well.
