So to say my wife is upset that Verizon/Motorola deleted apps that she uses with the update is an understatement.
The most maddening is the alarm issue. Jelly Bean deleted the Alarm app that was on her phone, and I remedied that by getting her one off of Google Play. The only issue is that the alarms set on the original Alarm app are still in place, and cannot be deleted from what we can see.
This is a problem because she has the alarm set for 5am M-F, but we don't want this thing going off this weekend at that time.
My first thought was maybe to find an .apk of the old alarm program, but I haven't been able to do so. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Use the stock jb clock.. tap clock ...set alarm.. repeat mon-fri....

It is unlikely that the update deleted user installed apps unless you did a factory reset after the update.
The update is written to the system partition, your data, including the alarms and all apps you installed would be in the data partition.
It is also unlikely that a non-existing app executes alarms.... With what if the app is uninstalled?
It is however possible that the update messed up something ...
My guess is, the alarm app is still there, you just don't see it.
Go to "Manage Apps"
There are three "views": Downloaded, Running, All
Carefully go through the "All" list and see if you can find it.

Actually, this isn't completely true. Although I agree that third party apps should not be touched, I can attest, that several built in Android apps are replaced. So far, I have found that the Gallery, Camera, Clock, and Alarm apps were replaced with new versions. For me, (I am using App Organizer) this meant that these shortcuts no longer worked.
Often the solution is to delete the unworking shorcut/widget/placeholder/whatever and re-add it, to get the new version.
Oh, I also had this problem with Car Dock Home V3 (icons that no longer worked).
-Glenn.
The alarms are under the clock app.

Has anyone on the KF2 rooted had their statusbar flicker or would know the cause of or solution to the issue?
It just turns off then on, seemingly random. My turning on I mean it appears, the icons adjust to match, then it disappears about one second later, and when I try to swipe down on it, I can't get anything to happen.
Installed new status bars (non root ones) and it replaced the bar that flashes...but the same issue.
This happened after a boot from using KindleFree. I used most of the tools on it, if you want to know I can list them. The only thing that I can POSSIBLY imagine went wrong would be when I tried to see how it would handle the setting a laucnher. So I got nova, rebooted, didn't like nova, set apex as default by pressing home, and that was that. I can't find nova in my ROM toolbox list of apps so I'm not sure how KindleFree installed it, and I'm not sure if that even caused the issue.
Any ideas?
I planned to just reset, re-root and start from clean when I get home but I'm at work for the next 7 hours and I'd like my statusbar back haha.
Well, some update I suppose.
TabletBar Hider does something. When I open the app and press restore, it makes the statusbar flash and appear for a bit. It's the ONLY thing that seems to have a direct effect on when it seems to appear. I tried using apps that make the notification area appear, and those did not work.
My best guess is something is forcing it to close....but I'm not sure what, or why.
Suggestions?
Well.....I've fixed it.
I wanted the Chameleon launcher so I changed my build.prop so the market would think I have a Nexus 7. No, this did not work for the market (I think I need to clear the cache) but, my status bar works! No idea what happened folks but.....there you go?
This thread can be locked or removed or whatnot. Since I really have no useful insight as to what broke or fixed it.
Signs point to installing Nova with KindleFree broke it, and that changing my build prop from a blaze tablet to a nexus 7, fixed it.
It makes no sense to me either, but that's what happened! Oh well, at least it works now. Happy modding and New Years all!

Have you installed Gmail by any chance?
I don't have the kindle fire 2, I have the hd, but for me gmail is the usual culprit for that like mentioned earlier. Other apps have caused it though. Usually going through and opening all the apps you used before it happens will clear that up. I do believe it's some sort of issue with notifications.

How did I not find that thread? Thanks! It could have been. From my thread, you can see my fix didn't seem related to me, BUT, yes, I did install gmail using KindleFree so that may have spawned some issues. However, I have used gmail since, and no issues. I'm not really sure what changing the build.prop does beyond supposedly trick the market, which didn't work for me. Thank you though! Hopefully we get to the root of what exactly this is! Two issues so far, both fixed in different ways. If it happens again I will try your fix and if that works then it's for certain gmail and hopefully we can help future issue finders!
I'm rather curious of getting market to believe the kindle is another device... it would be nice to not sideload so many apps
If you have success with this please post back with your build prop edits

Hey guys, I've come across a problem I've never had before. Recently I've had errors popping up of low memory and a lot of FC's of Facebook, messaging, browser, pretty much everything. I'll look for apps in the play store or browse games and can only scroll down about 2 inches before I hit the bottom. I've used various cleanup apps and still low on ram. Been running aokp jellybean build 5 for months without problems. Any suggestions?

what is actually running after you boot phone? settings, apps, running tab will show.
have you tried booting into recovery and wiping both dalvik and cache?
other suggestion would be to deny startup or else freeze various apps to see if that helps.

Perhaps a little update wouldn't hurt, there's AOKP JB milestone now. Little backup, clear/wipe and flash it.
But like laughingT mentioned, chances are that you have a app draining your RAM.
Well I updates to milestone 1 originally but when I did the lock screen theme never changed when I changed themes as well as other things (keyboards etc) so I went back to build 5.
After rebooting my phone and seeing what apps are running after starting up and its 3 Google maps, Google, voxer, gmail, OMC widget, Facebook, play music and stuff like that before I've even opened anything

Maps can be stopped (make sure GPS isn't on). I heard OMC Widget caused a lot of battery drain but might've been updated since then. And Voxer, you can stop it and only start it when you need it.
you could try System Tuner, available on google play.
the startups button, gives a list of all apps, system and user, has ability to selectively disable apps at startup.
I use it to prevent Google maps and many others from loading at boot. don't go overboard, say by disabling keyboard or settings, obviously.
I think OMC widget has been updated, but batt use may vary with which widget you select and how frequently you set it to update.
I'm using OMC with the clock weather batt bubble thingy widget, and from what I can see, it suspends updating when screen is off.

Ok this is driving me crazy, randomly the app watch on will pop up in my notification bar. I disable it and it will just pop up again at a random time. Does anyone know how to permanently remove? besides freezing it of course

This just started happening to me the other day. I don't understand why because it hasn't done it before. I too disabled the notification and it automatically turns itself back on. I cleared the data and started over but that did not help. I froze the app with tbu a little bit ago because I rarely use it. It is frustrating because that is one of the only Samsung apps that I like. I too would like to know of a fix for it.

holllly cow. I have been battling this for 3 days now. I thought it was just my phone being supper glitchy. I have gone as far as to uninstall the app... witch will stop it from comming up in the notification bar. Then i re download it from play store. After about 4 reboots it comes back. I will set it in the setting to not come on in notification pannel. Boom its back. No way to stop it..... same with a few other apps. Its like they do not close the correct way and do not save the settings. My swannview dvr app is one more that wont save settings because it won't close correctly.
I don't know if this narrows it down but I noticed when I had wifi turned off I never got it but the second I turned it back on it started popping up again.
I have the same problem. This morning, while trying to disable the notification bar setting again, I got nag popup about allowing Watchon to use mobile data or only wifi. I selected the allow mobile data option and do not ask me again. Now, I can't find the setting to change it back to see if that would affect the notification bar problem. I don't want to test all of the settings because I would lose the devices that I have setup. I assume the problem is caused by an update to Watchon. The only thing I have changed recently us switching to Nova Launcher. Could this be related?

Judging by this I would assume it is the location settings that is triggering this. Try to go to system settings > More > Location services > My places > Choose the places and click none. I can't confirm this works, but it seems that this is triggering for the problem. Also note this isn't a great solution; other location services may be affected with this change.
This is caused by the latest WatchOn update.
I use WatchOn since the day I get my S4 Active (2 months ago) and this NEVER HAPPENED before the update.
I had to disable WatchOn with TB.
Another example of Samsung messing up good stuff!

It has nothing to do with location services. All of mine were already set to none, and I have the same problem.

Sorry then, it must have been the WatchON lock screen location settings I was thinking of. No clue, honestly.
So did this ever get worked out? I just got the note 3 and am already seeing this behavior.
SOLUTION!..
Here is how i disabled remote control on notification panel and lock screen.
Its on Watchon Settings.
watch work done
This is what I did:
Settings
More
Application Manger
Samsung WatchOn
Remove the check for "Show Notifications"
This doesn't stop the program from starting on powerup, but it removes it from the notifications.
This is a thread that should be closed. The problem was fixed by an update. I can confirm that it did exist at one time, but the only people that still have thre problem either have not updated or they have not changed their settings.

I've noticed that if you use a third party app for SMS like Signal, you dont get a notification unless the application is open, same with gmail.
Has anyone else noticed this?
go to advance setting >battery manager >protected app and check if application is not checked on , that's mean when screen is off the application will not work unless you open it... so if you need notification from certain apps just mark it on

This is a the 'doze' function in Huawei EMUI. A lot of firmwares have this issue. It's because Huawei has blacklisted many apps to not to send notification when screen is off. The apps that are white-listed include WhatsApp and some Chinese Tencent crap.
There is a method to enable notifications for all apps but obviously that requires root.
And yeah, Welcome to EMUI, a UI that plays with your emotions.

All I can say is I have turned on every apps to run when the screen is off. I do t get any notifications, only if I go on the app or if I turned the phone off then back on I get a batch of notifications. I receive certain apps notification but its not consistent. Can't wait for a good root, to get rid of this crappy EMUI and hopefully the camera app will be ported, I'm happy with the pbone, the camera, but this UI is from hell.
Weird, I have 0 issues with notifications, everything turns up very quickly. Gmail, whatsapp, youtube comments... Etc.
I also use Nils lockscreen notifications though, I have the huawei lockscreen notification system disabled. It works very well like this until I find the time to root.

I only disabled the huawei lockscreen notification system (to disable the lockscreen all together you need root). Just use any lockscreen other than the stock magazine one in the theme selecter.
The UI certainly is different. But imho customizable enough that it doesn't get in the way. This is android after all.

OK if you guys have root i have something to try for you. I had issues with the process of GMD gesture control. It was killed by the battery saving tools implemented in this phone.
So I tried freezing certain system apps through titanium to find the one responsible for closing the background process and I think I found it:
It's a process/app called "power genie". I disabled it and now the process sticks. Also I made gesture control a system app, so maybe it's a combination of the two things.
It's not the same issue as you had but maybe it works for you too.

So does this method allow for notifications to come through without having firstly opened the application then going to home-screen with it still open?

You'd have to try that out for yourself because I never had any issues with notifications coming through and I use third party software (Nils) for lockscreen notification.
What I described is a method that prevents a Huawei "power save" service called power genie killing background processes. No guarantees though, I had issues with gmd gesture control not working after a few minutes and I had to constantly open the app to make it work again. Then I froze power genie and since then it worked 100%.
So it's just my theory that it might stop other apps/processes from being closed as well.
I still dont get notifications coming through via the official gmail app, i might trying that power genie freeze, since any app thats not Huawei wont come through as a notification and thats when I give the app full access.'
I'm not sure if this is worth a try, but there's an option to 'ignore optimisations' on a per-app basis.
In settings > Apps > Advanced > Ignore optimisations > All apps
I've instructed to ignore optimisations for Dash, an app with a background service that launches the app upon connection to my car's Bluetooth OBD. I'll feed back if this has any impact, as I've noticed it doesn't auto-start the app on the Huawei P9 as it used to on my Nexus 5, despite 'protecting' the app in the battery manager.

If it's just Gmail, try deleting cache and data for the Gmail app and reboot first. My wife had the same issue just with the Gmail app a few days ago (on a galaxy s3 though).
Same issue with Instagram so I guess it's not only gmail
I have a tmobile note 8 and ever since I upgraded to Android 8, push notifications are coming in delayed and all at once at random times. Take outlook for example, an hour might go by and then all of a sudden dozens of notifications hit all at once. I checked if maybe battery settings were messing with outlook but it is not blocked and my phone is in performance mode. Seems like my phone is going into a deep sleep and not doing push notifications as they come in. Any idea what is happening?
Same thing happened to mind after update. But seems to be resolved now. I think I went into Apps then pressed the three dots in the up right corner and chose reset app preferences. I also messed about in the notification menu somewhat prior to that.

Factory reset. A good practice after a major software update.

Disable the GOOGLE app in app manager. It should ask you if you want to go back to the factory app. Just agree to this. This is assuming you checked to make sure Battery Manager wasn't turning off your app or the data saver wasn't killing your app data access. If you have done these things and your app notification is still delayed it is being caused by the GOOGLE app. Listed as "Google" in app manager. Hope this helps someone else.
UPDATE: I should have mentioned for a permanent solution and to allow you to continue using the GOOGLE app you can go to the Google Play Store, find the installed GOOGLE app, click uninstall to revert to the factory GOOGLE app, once uninstalled click the three dots at the top right and Uncheck the Auto Updates to the GOOGLE app. This will allow you to retain the factory app functions and should resolve this notification issue at the same time.
