Probably trinity for straight gaming. I use lean kernel tho

Do I have to over clock?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

I'm using trinity at 1.3 GHz for CPU and 666 MHz for GPU and doing pretty fine.

I have seen mine go up to around 59 Celsius but that is what System Tuner says. Some people say System Tuner says it is always 10 degrees
hotter than it actually is but hey. My kernel is Motley's overclocked to 1.6 Ghz max and 860 MHz min. Even though it gets hot and drains through the battery playing NBA 2k13 I get absolutely zero lag.

I was on Motleys too but I got scared because it always hit 70c

Yeah mine has done that once or twice. It powered itself off so i put it in the freezer and cooled it down.

Over clocking for new users is kinda like baby steps. Tweak little by little until you find the most optimum and stable setup.
As I said earlier I'm running trinity at stock CPU speeds, OC'd GPU(666mhz) and have a plethora of tweaks.

Possible heat/battery life fix

My phone was heating up a lot and had terrible battery life. I installed setcpu and noticed the default min frequency was running at 1024mhz so I changed it to 384mhz and it doesn't even heat up anymore and my battery is lasting noticeably longer

I don't think it's a good measure of battery life. Normally it's measured during the day when you're out. For example, I put my SGS2 in a draw when I got my Nexus 4 about ten days ago and it's got 30% battery....

HOW ON EARTH DID YOU GET THAT?
As my screen shot shows, my Android System and Android OS use a huge portion of my phone's battery, and Screen shows how little I used it today. I'm at 47% in 6 hours - ridiculous when coming from a GN that would go all day (literally over 24 hours easily).
Notice my phone is hardly ever idle. There's some kind of bug keeping it awake.
When I went from 4.2 to 4.2.1 the battery problem really seemed to take off, but I wasn't on 4.2 that long (1/2 a day) before updating so I really don't know. Regardless, the battery drain is HUGE. I even hard-reset it and set it back up. No help.

Software issues are awesome.
Could you check if there are any wakelocks? Something that keeps your CPU busy all the time, like a locked up process? CPU usage in idle? Does it clock down properly when in idle?
You see, there is a lot of stuff that can be wrong with it.

I'm using motley can't get that low get just over 1000mv for that but there is a large margin for under volt.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Just remember your phone ramps up to 1026mhz when it detects touch input because of project butter. If you let it idle about two seconds it will return to the minimum that you have set.
If you obviously don't care about project butter then you can get something like no frills CPU which locks the frequency and keeps the system from changing it.
Here's my battery life using 1.2 max and 384 min with screen on and 7xx max and 384 min when screen is off.

Not all phones are created equal. Some can run 2.1 flawlessly some it's really unstable. Set up won't really matter if your phone can't. At 2.1 my benchmarks are considerably lower. So I know my phone can't.

i just traded my s4 for the one.. i was getting about 24,000-25,000 on my s4 and i get about the same on my one.. quadrant is around 12,000 on both phones also.. benchmarks are like hooking your muscle car up to Dyno.. some people hate benchmarks some like them... i always use them.. i dont care about getting the best score but i deff want to kno my phone is scoring normal numbers..

If it just recently got hot it's because you are in hot environment, devices like PCs, tablets phones etc. gets really hot in summer even if you are not using it heavily.
Well it's cool in my house like 74° so I don't think the environment is the reason for the cpu getting hot and going up to 200% use when not doing anything thanks for trying to help me though

Anybody tested out the kernel yet? Any good/bad reviews? Im itching to try it out so bad, but I tried the other kernel in the G2 development thread by Wooster (i think) and it jacked my phone up a lil bit. Wouldnt officially connect to Sprint network and wouldnt let me update my profite while I was on it. So I'm waiting to hear some feedback before I try this one out to save me the headache. A good custom kernel is the last piece of the puzzle I need to be totally happy on a STOCK ROM for damn near the first time ever lol. Loving my Xposed tweaks now...just need that custom kernel to make it officially official lol.
Does anyone know if this helps with disabling the Screen Adaptive brightness? To get rid of the low brightness flicker while browsing web pages.
I'm using it and I really haven't had any issues. I download No Frills CPU and it's clocked at 2.496 GHz max and 300 MHZ min with ondemand governor. I do see an improvement on my battery but that's with slight usage. That's all the info I have for now hope this helps:good:

Frequencies are handled properly now. CPU isn't handled to clock up all cores to max when benchmarking applications are run anymore. OEMs do this a lot and it's considered cheating. That's why the Nexus 5 doesn't score as high in bechmarks, because AOSP doesn't cheat.
