[Q] Need help rooting kindle fire HD 7.30 - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted many devices in the past but my kindle fire HD has had me running in circles for months! I keep downloading files, but nothing works! I have the adb drivers downloaded and they are working, but that's as far as I can get. Any advice/ help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm at crossroads too. Getting error "A server error has occurred. Retry or cancel and return to the previous screen." when launching Market App. Also, Root Check Freezes - black screen.

How do I Remove files in [xbin] folder from Failed [Root] attempts?
Okay, first time [Rooting] , I recently rooted my kindle HD 7, and yesterday my SU is no longer in its folder and my system appears semi wiped. I say semi because i have a ' Google market apk' that doesn't work and a apex launcher which still works somehow now embedded in the factory settings. That's one issue, the other is well, I tried a number of things, factory reset, fastboot with firstaide32, and reroot, but and they dont disappear and now when i try to do shell commands to the xbin folder I get this error, " cannot copy or install files to /system/xbin folder is full on device". Im stumped. How do i wipe the xbin folder so i can root again? Im still fresh to the linux coding commands.
Thank you to anyone with some insight.:confused

ugh, this whole 7.3.0 thing is a disaster. i really screwed the pooch, thought i had blocked ota updates but i guess it didnt work. now my kindle wont connect properly to any of my pc's, all drivers i try install as unknown device. i just dont get it. i had such an easy time rooting it originally. anyone having a similar issue?
if i cant root this thing again im probably going to just use my new nail gun on it and go buy a nexus. i really hate the stock rom.

For me after weeks of searching believe I found the answer. When I first rooted my KFTT 7.2.3 it went smoothly. When it updated the same process wasn't working even though others on this site said it should. (Method used was Root with restore and Qemu Root) After receiving many ADB push errors and permission errors I decided to do a complete restore after reading a suggestion somewhere on the internet. I was hesitant to do this because I could not back up my app data and my Fruit Ninja high scores would be wiped, but I needed root to make my launcher wallpapers work. So I charged up my Kindle to 45% (40% required for restoring) and restored. Then I went to the rooting tool on my PC and presto not a single failed adb push in sight. All it needed was a little restore. Although RIP my poor hoghscores :crying:

its more about the effort-to-enjoyment ratio. i dont like the device enough to warrant the effort of getting it to work the way i want. it was free, so whatever i sell it for is free money to put towards a better device.
ive tried a restore and lost all my scrabble scores and games, but it did nothing for me. every pc in my house decided the kindle is now an unknown device, even when i install the adb drivers. ive tried deleting phantom installs, ive tried every tip in this forum, and nothing is working. thats why im giving up, its not for lack of trying or anything.

called amazon today, apparently theres a known bug theyre working on. 7.3.1 addresses some of them, but did not work for me. i was told another update is coming out within the next few weeks to fix all known bugs. they were very attentive and had me list all bugs im noticing, the first guy i talked to seemed happy to be dealing with someone who can spell usb, so he pumped me for info. i told him what drivers ive tried, how i switch to test mode, disable diver sig verification, etc...
the first call ended when i had to wait for 7.3.1 to dl and install by pressing sync. called back after the update didnt change anything and theyre replacing it. i'll have a new one in 2 days. you cant beat that kind of service imo. im gonna give the device a second chance simply because ive now seen how firmly theyre behind it, and because their customer service system is wonderfully painless.

Accelerometer "broken"

I just received my G1 back from HTC and set about installing the new cyanogen rom. Somewhere along the way (not sure where) I lost my accelerometer. Teeter, papijump, etc do not work, and the screen does not autorotate. Before everyone links me to cyanogens fix, i have tried it many times and it does not work. His fix is:
Code:
mount /data <enter>
rm /data/misc/akmd* /data/misc/rild* <enter>
reboot <enter>
but..unfortunately I get an error saying that the akmd does not exist. I have looked at it under adb and verified the file does not exist. I compared it to my working g1 here:

Anyone have any ideas? I have a working G1 that I can pull anything from if need be. I have rooted, unrooted, back to RC29, up to cyanogens again and the file never re-appears and accelerometer never works.
Which rom are you trying? Have you tried any others?
I have tried several- the dudes roms, cyanogens, and even back to rc29 again (wiping at every turn!). I know little about Android- are the files and drivers updated with each rom, or am I missing something beyond what is replaced with a rom update? I guess it is entirely possible that something is wrong on a hardware level, but it just came back from HTC with 2 new boards in it...so I was thinking that was unlikely.
I have installed plenty of roms on different G1's, but this is my first time with a problem like this!
When you flash a rom it replaces everything, the system folder, drivers, etc. Are you using a partitioned sdcard? If so, have you been wiping the EXT2/3 partition? If you've been wiping that, and wiping as you flash, it looks suspiciously like hardware I'm afraid.
I do not use any apps to sd type stuff, nor any partition on the sd card at all- I dont need the space as I use very few apps. this was also on my "test phone" so I hadn't time to even install any apps yet.
I was afraid of that as well, as I figured files were replaced/updated with each rom. Doh, looks like another call to HTC. I cant complain much, they took VERY good care of me- even replacing a broken plastic center housing and rubber usb plug under warranty
try this:
wipe
reflash cm 3.9.8
before rebooting, take out your sd card.
reboot.
I spent hours trying to fix this. This is what finally did it. Turn off auto orientation. Reboot into recovery and delete the files there. That is the only way it will work, in recovery. Then when you turn it back on make sure your phone is held in portrait mode. If you have it on it's side it calibrates that as being portrait and it messes up. If it says the files aren't there but they really are you need to do this
cd /data/misc
rm -r akmd*
rm -r rild*
I think it is the rild files that really fix it. Let me know if that works.

to clarify, you have to
Code:
mount /data
after booting into recovery before you are able to remove files, or even cd to data for that matter.
seems more like a hardware problem if it remains over many ROMS
I will play with it some more later tonight, but I followed the steps (pretty similar to what I tried before, except for the portrait mode part) and it still never did re-create the akmd files, only the rild files. Thanks for the advice!

maybe someone could send you a akmd file and you could push it there and try that..?
I have another G1 that I could pull from, but the part that confuses me is this- if it isnt rebuilding that file, does that mean it doesnt "see" the accelerometer? I assume the files that we are deleting (or on mine are pre-deleted) are settings files, and simply pushing a new settings file would not necessarily be the whole story... but I am up for anything you guys want to try! I will be calling HTC soon for a re-repair if nothing else
note: I also discovered my GPS is not working (no errors, just cant find a lock where my othe rG1 does every time) so I am sure something is more wrong that I first thought.

I had this exact same problem. I tried using miketaylors tip and it didn't work. I then replaced my Launcher.apk that I had download from the CyanogenMod 3.9.9 post and replaced it with a backedup Launcher.apk that I backed up. I then tried miketaylor's tip and it started working!
Thanks mike!
My accelerometer went out yesterday and I quickly found this thread. I just did a wipe from CM1.4 recovery and now it works. Also since I have a2sd, I didn't lose anything. Just backup your settings and what not with mybackup.
i to have fallen victum i literrally tried everything. I'm not blaming CM rom but i went through multiple hero roms, non cm roms, when i did the cyan 4.0.4 update it stopped working and every since then it never comes back wiping or even reflashing nothing works
I just had to root a guy's phone yesterday cause he lost his accelorometer on the stock software, I always thought that this happened when switching roms, I had to root the phone otherwise I didn't know what to do to solve it, but once rooted and flashed cyan's it work perfectly

I am just curious how it went out on the stock t-mobile rom, trust me this guy ain't messing with his phone, he barely knew how the work the internet, so I it not like he messed with it so how did it go out? Everyone else with this issue has done it on a custom rom not stock and I haven't seen it before so maybe there is something more to this problem

Bricked Droid 3

Can't get my phone into recovery at all after trying to get the new up date. Only way it comes on is by plugging it into the wall, and the only way to get it to turn off is to pull the battery. Besides the Motorola sign when it is on, that is all it does right now. I think what caused this is using safestrap instead of boot strap. Here are more details from a convo with an acquaintance. BTW, I've tried the technique for getting it to boot in recovery a 1000 times but have been unsucessful.

homescreen looks sick man. Liking the launcher too.
Been waiting on the Galaxy Nexus...going to drop my X for this.
What's up?
Thanks. Btw, I fell asleep waiting on the files to transfer to my phone. When I woke up it was bricked
I backed up EVERYTHING on the sd, I just need to figure out how to get the phone past the bootloop now. Hopefully I can get it done connected to the laptop, but any advice would be appreciated. The guys on xda were a little vaugue on the directions.
Did you clear data/cache before installing the files?
I would boot back into recovery and do this. It won't delete the files you just installed, just all the old data (system settings, etc) in your phone.
I'd try a few battery pulls first.
If that doesn't work, enter into recovery from here:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/d...-recovery.html
And wipe data/cache, then reboot.
If I plug it into a power source, the motorola emblem comes up, but nothing else. It won't even power off. Power + X or M doesn't do a damn thing, and if I plug it into my computer it also does nothing at all. The laptop doesn't even recognize it or even try to charge it as far as I can tell.
After Power + X did you hit the volume buttons in the guide like it says?
You probably did but just wanted to make sure.
You're only other choice seems to flash a fastboot file.
These are about the easiest instructions you'll find.
I've never done on a D3, but looks right to me.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-...959-and-56890/
Don't turn on your phone to charge it, leave it off and charge it.
Unless you can tell me how to install/uninstall programs located on the internal and external memory of the phone when I can't get it to turn on (even in recovery mode), I'm fairly certain I'm screwed. I believe that my only hope originally was to be able to access the memory via laptop to be able to get it into recovery. That ROM I put on had to use this http://www.hash-of-codes.com/files/Droid3Safestrap.apk, which won't work for the factory update, which has to use this http://download.clockworkmod.com//te...3Bootstrap.apk. So even though I have all the programs that I need on the memory of the phone to get the factory update then reinstall the custom ROM, I can't get the phone on so that I can install and uninstall the programs necessary for recovery. I should never have messed with my phone when I was half asleep to begin with.

Well, I got it unbricked, but it was a real trick to get it done. Like I mentioned before, I suspected an issue with battery power, because when it was plugged in for charging, the screen stayed on with the motorola logo displayed. As everyone knows, this uses a lot of power. Even being plugged in to the wall (phone WOULD NOT turn off), it was using most of the power that was supposed to be charging the battery. This is what I did to bypass the problem.
1. Let charge all night
2. Hit X + power (M + power WOULD NOT work) simultanously, then slowly inserted phone end of USB cord that was already plugged into the wall
3. After the Motorola logo displayed on the screen, I closed the keyboard and waited for the Andoid avatar to be displayed. Once he popped up, I hit the volume button up and down at the same time, which FINALLY got it into recovery.
4. Factory reset by toggleing to that option and hitting power button.
5. Once factory reset was complete, I selected the ZIPPED leak update and hit the power button.
6. After update completed, system reboot. Phone kept its root status and the DarkDroid ROM
Btw, does this info look right (asking anyone who knows). Phone is supposed to be updated with Verizon update, rooted, and running DarkDroid ROM

Stuck in download mode

Hey guys my friend rooted his virgin mobile optimus elite ( I think its the same as the black) and when he flashed cwm from rom manager and tried to reboot into recovery it went into download mode and got stuck. the computer won't recognize the phone even with the proper lg drivers so we can't push any thing also can't get into recovery with button combo. Any suggestions?

Optimus Black is not like the elite at all (The only thing they have in common is that they look similar - in pictures in real life you can see the elite being smaller)
When I searched for Optimus Elite I got this :

Sounds like your friend got a shot bootloader. Theres nothing that can be done for a LG phone that relies on their update mode with shot bootloader.
Return it to the shops for repair and say you tried to update you phone and your computer lost power during the update and hope they believe you (throw in a few tears about how your life is ruined and you'll never buy a LG product again and you should have nothing to worry about - they'll fix it for you). A failed official update is the only thing that can kill your bootloader that doesn't kill your warranty.
I said all this amusing that the optimus elite uses lg's software update bootloader.
Did you try fastboot yet?

Good day all, I'm the one that OP referenced. Somehow in the process of rooting this guys phone I incorrectly took the Elite and the Black to be the same model. Of course upon looking them up they are obviously different... problem remains that I now have a phone in download mode, windows sees it and loads drivers but no talky. LG mobile support tool attempts to update it but it craps out around 20% heimdall and odin don't negotiate with it. As suggested above it likely is a paper weight and is bound for RTV but as it isn't my phone I'd like to exhaust all efforts before I tell the owner that I bricked his toy.

If fastboot says waiting for device then it's a no go for fastboot. Still not sure why Lg removed it. Its just so convenient.
I can't say I'm suprised to hear Samsung Software doesn't work with a Lg Phone
When you say SFT. What firmware are you trying to flash? What model.dll are you using? All downloads for that I know of got model.dll of Optimus Black included. What method did you use to root in the first place?

rooted with poot, everything seemed fine till reboot at which point I get this lovely download mode screen and nothing else.
I was trying to flash using the official LG tool which auto downloads the firmware I'm not sure which version it is grabbing but no doubt the latest.
as for odin/heimdall, I know, I know...samsung, but I was hoping for some sign of life/port negotiation at least.
and yeah, why they'd do away with fastboot is beyond me, it's fantastic.
so to recap, no ADB(seemingly. nothing in DevMan) no fastboot, no official LG mobile support tool.

Thats good to hear. If you use the proper model.dll with SFT and bin files for Optimus Elite then it should work aswel. SFT is after all just a compact version of LGFlashTool.

Frozen Boot Screen, Dead Tablet?

Greetings!
I've spent the past 5 or so hours trying to figure this out, and through much searching on various different forums, I'm entirely stumped. For starters, my 8.9 tablet (GT-7310, 16 GB Wi-Fi) has been on Honeycomb 3.0 since I've gotten it. Today, I had the bright idea of actually taking the plunge into an upgrade and join everyone else in the 4.0+ world. First, it prompted me to upgrade to 3.2 - this went quite smoothly, it was only a 20 MB or so download via Wi-Fi. It booted up, no problem. Then, it prompted me for a second upgrade, which was quite large, in the 300+ MB range. I downloaded this, rebooted, and now my Galaxy Tab won't progress beyond the boot screen. It was like this for hours. Tried a factory reset/cache wipe and I still have the same problem.
So, it appears that my tablet may have tricked me into assisting its suicide. What's more, I can't connect it to my PC because it won't recognize it, and the MTP USB driver always fails. For that problem I've tried everything from editing reg keys to renaming system files to test it (I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) Nothing. This thing is a brick, and I'm starting to have an epiphany that I may have made a grave mistake. Is this salvageable at all? All I wanted was to get this thing on at least ICS. Is it possible to somehow get the files needed on my tablet via flash drive and install it that way? Where would I go about getting such files needed?
I apologize for spilling all of this, but I guess its tough to swallow a fleeting $400 spent. I eagerly await any sort of response or help, thank you in advance!
If out boots at all it's salvageable. Not have the pc recognize it though could be a problem. Have you tired odin? See if odin will recognize it and if so flash the stock ics firmware. You can get it at sammobile.com. you'll download a zip file and extract the.tar.md5 file from it using 7-zip.

Well, I'm a bit relieved that Odin does in fact recognize the device, but every time I connect it, the device driver (MTP) won't successfully install, so Kies won't recognize it at all (though from what I gather on this forum, Kies is kind of an incompatible waste of time) I went to that site but couldn't find firmware for my model tablet (GT-P7310, United States) but found several for other countries. What steps do I take next?

Well that's interesting? I looked too and there is no usa. Try samsung-updates.com
Edit, that doesn't look like its gong to work either. Is it an att device?

It's not an AT&T device, it's a wireless tablet, from the first run of 8.9 tabs. It came stocked with Honeycomb 3.0 originally. The model number on the back of the device is GT-P310MA, FFC ID: A3LGTP7310.
Also, I gave Odin a go. While it recognized the device, it kept failing when I tried to use the PIT file.
This is the screen I've been stuck on for hours, the good news is that I can hold down left and power and go into that mode, but it doesn't do much of anything.

Nothing good comes with messing with a pit file. I'd download the UK stock firmware for the 7310 and flash that in PDA In Odin. Only have auto-reboot checked. Don't know for sure if it'll work and you're on your own on this.

I didn't mess with the pit file, only followed instructions based on a tutorial I found in the forum. It's in the same shape as it was before. I did your suggestion in Odin however, and this is what I'm working with:
I don't think my PC is reading the tablet properly, but really I have no idea.
Keep trying it. I've had to do it multiple times and for whatever reason it finally worked.

It may also help to try a different usb port, cable, or computer.
This one was a doozy, but I finally got it to work! I had more options within my tab than I thought I did, and what's more, I got to upgrade to ICS from Honeycomb. Just had to tweak a few settings in recovery mode. D'oh! Anyway, thanks to all of you, you had the right answers, there was clearly just an option I was overlooking myself!

Kindle Fire HD '7 2012 HELP RESTORE

Hey guys, hope someone can help me here. I got a Kindle Fire HD "7 (2012), and last year I couldn't use it anymore because it kept freezing whenever I try to open the apps or home (it is not rooted). My power button isn't working anymore (broken) and the only way to open my kindle is when i plug it to charge. I finally got the Fastboot cable that I have ordered online (it took awhile because I live in South East Asia and can't find it anywhere) so I'm hoping i could restore my Kindle to factory settings (just delete everything) so I could use it again. Is it safe to use this recovery tool with my kindle? Is it safe to plug the Fastboot cable even if the battery is dead or if the kindle is open?
Please, if someone can answer my questions, you can save me from heartbreak.
XDA guys, I was able to turn off my Kindle Fire HD 7 (2012) without the power button since it's broken, by removing the battery, it's the only option i got left -- while I was charging the device it turned on and displayed Provisioning Fail --- so I removed the battery, then now it's off, I plugged in the fastboot cable - I've downloaded the KFHD tools here on the site - so then it went to Fastboot.
Now I opened the SR Tool file -- then selected 3 (restore only to stock) but after I did that it only said <waiting for device> ,, that means that the computer is not recognizing the device? is that correct? What should I do? My device is unrooted, I don't know what to do to make the computer recognize the device. Please anyone - I'm clueless about all these stuff when I first came here on xda. Help a total noob like me please.

Hi! I've watched the video and downloaded the tools... but, my computer can't seem to read the Drivers that were supposed to be installed so the Kindle would be readable. I've tried another laptop and it was the same (both laptops are 32bit Windows 7).
Do you happen to know the problem? Are the drivers link updated? Or they only work for 64bit computers?

Uninstall all Amazon Kindle drivers, reboot your computer, then reinstall the drivers and try again.

Hi! Here let me show you what happens when I try to install the Kindle Fire drivers
First, here's the application.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then the setup (usually gets stuck right there -- never fully loading to 100%)
After the 'installation' this pops up saying it was successful
Then this...
I clicked the Details and here it is...
What do you think went wrong here? Corrupted Driver? I have at least two driver applications (same kindle drivers from different websites) downloaded.
Tried to uninstall and reboot, same thing happens.
