Kindle Fire HD '7 2012 HELP RESTORE - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, hope someone can help me here. I got a Kindle Fire HD "7 (2012), and last year I couldn't use it anymore because it kept freezing whenever I try to open the apps or home (it is not rooted). My power button isn't working anymore (broken) and the only way to open my kindle is when i plug it to charge. I finally got the Fastboot cable that I have ordered online (it took awhile because I live in South East Asia and can't find it anywhere) so I'm hoping i could restore my Kindle to factory settings (just delete everything) so I could use it again. Is it safe to use this recovery tool with my kindle? Is it safe to plug the Fastboot cable even if the battery is dead or if the kindle is open?
Please, if someone can answer my questions, you can save me from heartbreak.

XDA guys, I was able to turn off my Kindle Fire HD 7 (2012) without the power button since it's broken, by removing the battery, it's the only option i got left -- while I was charging the device it turned on and displayed Provisioning Fail --- so I removed the battery, then now it's off, I plugged in the fastboot cable - I've downloaded the KFHD tools here on the site - so then it went to Fastboot.
Now I opened the SR Tool file -- then selected 3 (restore only to stock) but after I did that it only said <waiting for device> ,, that means that the computer is not recognizing the device? is that correct? What should I do? My device is unrooted, I don't know what to do to make the computer recognize the device. Please anyone - I'm clueless about all these stuff when I first came here on xda. Help a total noob like me please.

Hi! I've watched the video and downloaded the tools... but, my computer can't seem to read the Drivers that were supposed to be installed so the Kindle would be readable. I've tried another laptop and it was the same (both laptops are 32bit Windows 7).
Do you happen to know the problem? Are the drivers link updated? Or they only work for 64bit computers?

Hi! Here let me show you what happens when I try to install the Kindle Fire drivers
First, here's the application.

}
Then the setup (usually gets stuck right there -- never fully loading to 100%)
After the 'installation' this pops up saying it was successful
Then this...
I clicked the Details and here it is...
What do you think went wrong here? Corrupted Driver? I have at least two driver applications (same kindle drivers from different websites) downloaded.
Tried to uninstall and reboot, same thing happens.

Problem solved I guess...

After hard resetting my device I could not activesync. My pc says device unkonwn (connected device has malfunctioned). I tried to use pocket mechanic on my device to reformat my sd card and it also says "error... a device attached to the system is not functioning". On my computer under driver details - driver node strong name it said ".../baddevice/..."
I tried putting phone in bootloader mode and running KaiserRUU to install new rom device shows serial then plug to PC says USB but nothing happens RUU says no device found or whatever.
I tried to SD flash a new ROM from via bootloader...white screen flashes says No Image File Found! Then goes back bootloader screen...
I would appreciate anyone that can help or point me in the direction of where to get help with this cuz i know and have done all the basics to solve the problem I think and its just not working...
Edit: I just plugged my phone up to the computer using my girlfriends usb cord to her sidekick and wouldnt you know the pc start building a new driver for my device... so i guess even tho the original usb cord malfunctioned or something... funny tho it would still charge my phone and show USB in the bootloader screen... Back to flashing

yes but nobody told you to post it here. The first time you posted it was in Garmin's thread, which is fine because that is the rom you flashed, although, it is not rom specific. You created two additional threads and received enough information to figure it out.
If you haven't figured it out you can always try this:
1) close all windows mobile device center and active sync applications on your pc task manager
2) uninstall windows mobile device center from your pc and reboot
3) reinstall windows mobile device center to your pc
4) insert usb cable into your device
5) when windows mobile device center opens select "connect without setting your device"
6) remove usb
7) reinsert usb then select set up your device
This is how I get active sync to work when I have the issue you are experiencing.

What can I say other then Vista Mobile Device Center Sucks Major.
Best way to see if its your device, try to sync it with another computer, borrow a friend's or try at work.
Go in to ActiveSync on your device, and Menu -> Options. Select the Windows PC and Delete. That may help too.

when you make changes to your registry and you perform a hard reset everything you altered in the registry resets back to when you flashed the new rom, "fresh out of the flash" sort of speak.

[Q] Need help rooting kindle fire HD 7.30

I'm at crossroads too. Getting error "A server error has occurred. Retry or cancel and return to the previous screen." when launching Market App. Also, Root Check Freezes - black screen.
How do I Remove files in [xbin] folder from Failed [Root] attempts?
Okay, first time [Rooting] , I recently rooted my kindle HD 7, and yesterday my SU is no longer in its folder and my system appears semi wiped. I say semi because i have a ' Google market apk' that doesn't work and a apex launcher which still works somehow now embedded in the factory settings. That's one issue, the other is well, I tried a number of things, factory reset, fastboot with firstaide32, and reroot, but and they dont disappear and now when i try to do shell commands to the xbin folder I get this error, " cannot copy or install files to /system/xbin folder is full on device". Im stumped. How do i wipe the xbin folder so i can root again? Im still fresh to the linux coding commands.
Thank you to anyone with some insight.:confused

For me after weeks of searching believe I found the answer. When I first rooted my KFTT 7.2.3 it went smoothly. When it updated the same process wasn't working even though others on this site said it should. (Method used was Root with restore and Qemu Root) After receiving many ADB push errors and permission errors I decided to do a complete restore after reading a suggestion somewhere on the internet. I was hesitant to do this because I could not back up my app data and my Fruit Ninja high scores would be wiped, but I needed root to make my launcher wallpapers work. So I charged up my Kindle to 45% (40% required for restoring) and restored. Then I went to the rooting tool on my PC and presto not a single failed adb push in sight. All it needed was a little restore. Although RIP my poor hoghscores :crying:
its more about the effort-to-enjoyment ratio. i dont like the device enough to warrant the effort of getting it to work the way i want. it was free, so whatever i sell it for is free money to put towards a better device.
ive tried a restore and lost all my scrabble scores and games, but it did nothing for me. every pc in my house decided the kindle is now an unknown device, even when i install the adb drivers. ive tried deleting phantom installs, ive tried every tip in this forum, and nothing is working. thats why im giving up, its not for lack of trying or anything.
called amazon today, apparently theres a known bug theyre working on. 7.3.1 addresses some of them, but did not work for me. i was told another update is coming out within the next few weeks to fix all known bugs. they were very attentive and had me list all bugs im noticing, the first guy i talked to seemed happy to be dealing with someone who can spell usb, so he pumped me for info. i told him what drivers ive tried, how i switch to test mode, disable diver sig verification, etc...
the first call ended when i had to wait for 7.3.1 to dl and install by pressing sync. called back after the update didnt change anything and theyre replacing it. i'll have a new one in 2 days. you cant beat that kind of service imo. im gonna give the device a second chance simply because ive now seen how firmly theyre behind it, and because their customer service system is wonderfully painless.

USB3 is backwards compatible with USB2 but the compatibility isn't the best.
My HTC one fastboot doesn't work with USB3 but my N7 and SGS3 works with my USB3 port. Likewise, some of my computer accessories refuse to work with USB3 as well
I want to confirm that USB 3.0 is NOT fastboot friendly.
Use a USB 2.0 port.
Hi, I did that commands in cmd to revert to locked bootloader and S-ON:
cd c:/adb/
adb shell
cd /data/local/tmp
./revone-0.2.1 -l
New cmd window:
cd c:/adb/
adb fastboot
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
But after last command there is a line with: < waiting for device > and nothing happens ...
Does anybody have an idea ? I used revone for S-OFF and Unlock bootloader and everything was successful but decided to go back for stock.
THANKS !

Frozen Boot Screen, Dead Tablet?

Greetings!
I've spent the past 5 or so hours trying to figure this out, and through much searching on various different forums, I'm entirely stumped. For starters, my 8.9 tablet (GT-7310, 16 GB Wi-Fi) has been on Honeycomb 3.0 since I've gotten it. Today, I had the bright idea of actually taking the plunge into an upgrade and join everyone else in the 4.0+ world. First, it prompted me to upgrade to 3.2 - this went quite smoothly, it was only a 20 MB or so download via Wi-Fi. It booted up, no problem. Then, it prompted me for a second upgrade, which was quite large, in the 300+ MB range. I downloaded this, rebooted, and now my Galaxy Tab won't progress beyond the boot screen. It was like this for hours. Tried a factory reset/cache wipe and I still have the same problem.
So, it appears that my tablet may have tricked me into assisting its suicide. What's more, I can't connect it to my PC because it won't recognize it, and the MTP USB driver always fails. For that problem I've tried everything from editing reg keys to renaming system files to test it (I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) Nothing. This thing is a brick, and I'm starting to have an epiphany that I may have made a grave mistake. Is this salvageable at all? All I wanted was to get this thing on at least ICS. Is it possible to somehow get the files needed on my tablet via flash drive and install it that way? Where would I go about getting such files needed?
I apologize for spilling all of this, but I guess its tough to swallow a fleeting $400 spent. I eagerly await any sort of response or help, thank you in advance!
If out boots at all it's salvageable. Not have the pc recognize it though could be a problem. Have you tired odin? See if odin will recognize it and if so flash the stock ics firmware. You can get it at sammobile.com. you'll download a zip file and extract the.tar.md5 file from it using 7-zip.

Well, I'm a bit relieved that Odin does in fact recognize the device, but every time I connect it, the device driver (MTP) won't successfully install, so Kies won't recognize it at all (though from what I gather on this forum, Kies is kind of an incompatible waste of time) I went to that site but couldn't find firmware for my model tablet (GT-P7310, United States) but found several for other countries. What steps do I take next?

Edit, that doesn't look like its gong to work either. Is it an att device?

It's not an AT&T device, it's a wireless tablet, from the first run of 8.9 tabs. It came stocked with Honeycomb 3.0 originally. The model number on the back of the device is GT-P310MA, FFC ID: A3LGTP7310.
Also, I gave Odin a go. While it recognized the device, it kept failing when I tried to use the PIT file.
This is the screen I've been stuck on for hours, the good news is that I can hold down left and power and go into that mode, but it doesn't do much of anything.

Nothing good comes with messing with a pit file. I'd download the UK stock firmware for the 7310 and flash that in PDA In Odin. Only have auto-reboot checked. Don't know for sure if it'll work and you're on your own on this.

I didn't mess with the pit file, only followed instructions based on a tutorial I found in the forum. It's in the same shape as it was before. I did your suggestion in Odin however, and this is what I'm working with:
I don't think my PC is reading the tablet properly, but really I have no idea.
Keep trying it. I've had to do it multiple times and for whatever reason it finally worked.

This one was a doozy, but I finally got it to work! I had more options within my tab than I thought I did, and what's more, I got to upgrade to ICS from Honeycomb. Just had to tweak a few settings in recovery mode. D'oh! Anyway, thanks to all of you, you had the right answers, there was clearly just an option I was overlooking myself!

Is....is that ONE sentence? I know you're new here, but if you want people to be able to accurately help you, you need to punctuate so we know what you're saying.
ANYWAY, If you can access the bootloader all is not lost. Have you got adb installed on a pc (windows 7 preferably)? If you do, plug your phone into the computer while in fastboot post the results of the command "fastboot getvar all" and edit out your serial number and imei. From there we might be able to find and run the correct ruu for your device. That might help recover the phone to a working state.

Yes, you can run the commands on a Mac. This post FAQ #3 will explain the syntax. You will need if you don't have them already is the ADB and Fastboot programs. I'm not familiar with the Mac so I don't know how it works on the Mac. The download site will have instructions.
Thank you I'll get that up and running. I also mite be able to get my hands on a windows laptop may work tonight but I'll post a reply with the results of the search thank you again
Hey guys Iv tried on two different computers now but I don't no if it's because the phone is in fast boot but it will not install the drivers for the phone correctly
Do any of you guys know where I could directly install the drivers for the phone from Iv tried downloading htc sync but that didn't work

Follow this procedure to correctly installed HTC drivers on your PC:

If not, follow this guide (thanks to nkk71):
originally from @nkk71: [GUIDE] [02-MAR-2014] nkk71's SuperGUIDE to returning 100% back to stock
follow the below instructions to fix
Open "Device Manager" -> select the unknown "One" -> right-click -> "Update Driver Software ..." -> "Browse my computer" -> "Let me pick" -> "Android USB Devices" -> select "My HTC ..." -> install that
just in case, HTC Drivers can be found here: [Drivers] HTC Drivers for Windows - Several Versions (credits to @mdmower)
though you should already have them since you have been using your phone anyways
for those who like a visual guide:
okay so I did a fastboot boot command, and as you can see it didnt install correct driver
Open "Device Manager"
there's the culprit
right click and Update Driver Software
select Browse my computer for driver software
select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
select Android USB Devices
select My HTC ... (if you have more than one version, choose the latest)
warning, select Yes
successful installation
now it looks better
and can confirm:
Code:
C:\ADB3>[B]adb devices[/B]
List of devices attached
HTxxxxxxxxxx recovery

It still comes up at unknown device when I connect regardless maybe I should try install it on another computer but I'll install android SDK and htc sync first or is that not the right way to go
Hey guys I'm not sure if Iv made some progress i read somewhere that someone left there's on charge for 4 days and that then calibrated the battery.
When I normally put it on charge the red light flashes at a normal pace and a normal brightness then when the battery logo comes up with the red ! It flashes faster but dimmer.
This morning I thought I'd try a different plug in the wall as mine isn't a htc plug it was a Samsung s3 charger. someone said to try charger it fast with my iPad charger so I used my plug in the wall and my lead left it for two hours and it actually looks like it is charger better the red light is flashing but it's flashing at a normal pace and normal brightness but I don't want to try turn it on incase it starts all over again.
What should I do guys should I just leave it will it try turn itself on or will it just charge
Typically the led will turn solid when charging and the phone will show a battery icon on the screen. Leave it to charge for a while longer see what happens. If nothing changes, turn it on again and try the steps we suggested in this thread.
Still nothing but a blinking light Iv orderd another battery to see if that makes i change altho been told this is a new battery because now it won't charge I can't even get back into HBOOT menu because it's that flat

Is your computer detecting your phone now? it's best not to have HTC sync installed at all as it will interfere with fastboot but shouldn't effect the drivers. You can uninstall HTC sync and leave the drivers installed.
If all else fails use Linux if Linux doesn't detect your phone nothing will. You can boot it from a live usb pendrive from a Mac or PC without altering the main os installed on the computer in any way.
