Lumia 810 LTE hack - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since T-mobile has said hey won't provide an LTE software fix, has anyone been working on one seperately?

Rather than repost, I'm just going to bump this thread. Has anyone been working on an LTE fix for the Lumia 810?

unfortunately, I doubt anybody is working on a Lumia 810. it is one of Nokia's forgotten children.
anywho, last i heard, the Lumia 810 was incapable of having LTE.
“I’m following up as per my note last night. Unfortunately, the Nokia Lumia 810 is not upgradable to LTE. While it is true that it has a chipset that is LTE-capable in certain circumstances, the variant that was used in this device can’t be enabled for LTE." -Randy Meyerson, Senior Director, Product Marketing at T-Mobile

Man, that's crushing. Thank you for the response, though. No LTE for me for a while, I guess.

Galaxy Note on T-Mobile USA?

I have T-Mobile and am in US.... I really am interested in the Galaxy note and am wondering if it is compatible with T-Mobile's 3G/"4G"/HSPA+ network? I don't know what these frequency bands mean for compatibility ...
It will only work on EDGE speeds. It doesn't have the AWS frequency (1700, 2100) required for their 3G/4G network.

That is exactly the response I was looking for in terms of technicality goes.
Thank you very much!
interestingly, many sites point to the India specific version of the phone being a "penta band" UMTS phone. and as far as i know penta band means T-Mo AWS support no?

Hello all,
This is interesting. Is there anyways to confirm that Indian version will have "Penta" band?
I read that Note will launch in India on 3nd November. May be will have to wait to find out.

I'm having doubts about that article, SGSII was 34k when it was released in India. Galaxy Note has to top that.

i can't find anything to suggest any carrier in India uses the 1700/2100 bands needed for T-Mo (US) 3G to work anyway. so it must be about something else.

There are many bands for UTMS, and t-mobile USA is the only one that uses 1700.
Odds are, even if it is pentaband, it still won't support 1700. It might, but it's unlikely.

what about the modem.bin from the galaxy s2 4g on the tmobile phone
I've been researching a bit and it seems that the files are about the same on these phones, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. That being said, I am in no way an expert, but I hope someone with more knowledge will chime in on this and give us a concrete answer.

phone frequency band is hardware specific. if the crystal is not tuned for the frequency, theres nothing you can do to make the phone to accept it
I guess I'll have to wait on the Galaxy Nexus then. Thanks for dropping that bit of knowledge on us.

I still want this and thinking hard about pulling the trigger and just buying. Has anybody bought this on tmobiles network yet.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
You will only get Edge speeds.
There is no need to confirm anything.
Hardware IS HARDWARE.
I would not consider getting T-Mobile's version of this for the sole fact that they'll mess it up by putting a pair of 1.8 ghz Qualcomm chip in there to support their 42mbps network.
It will be garbage once that happens.
At this point, you either accept it as being Edge only on T-Mobile's network, or you don't get it altogether.
Yeah I know it only works on edge but if a million iphone users are using it then it might be usable but I kinda want a real world test of the Internet and not just specs since that's the only thing that's holding me back

You could ditch T-Mob, or not worth it? I would leave my carrier for the Note.
I made an inquiry about the Note coming to T mobile directly to someone I know at Samsung. He did get back to me and said they have figured a way around the present problem with the present chip configuration and will come out with a version that will be 1700/2100 compatible. BUT, not soon (2012) and probably will be the next version of this type of 5" + smart phone ....... So it is edge only on TMO for now..............
By the time they actually get to bring something like that out the quad core chips will be out and other makers might bring out something similar hopefully.
Howdy all?
Currently I am using Dell Streak which actually was launched for AT&T. So I was only getting TMo's EDGE speed on my Streak. Which for me was not a big deal because I would only have to deal with slow speed while I am either away from home or work.
Some might find it silly, but what I did was, removed my data portion which was with the phone and actually got TMo's 4g hotspot. And I carried both, my Streak and hotspot always with me. Which for me works out alright.

[Q] lumia 1520(RM-937) on T-Mo USA

I want the lumia 1520, but I'm on T-Mobile in the US. I will never got to AT&T for very good reasons, so please don't suggest it. The one offered for sale here is the rm-937 which doesn't cover the 1700 band needed for TMO lte , and I understand it's not possible to change the phone to cover it either.
My question is: is anyone using the rm-937 on TMO US? If so, how are the data speeds? Are there other issues that should be known about the phone/carrier relationship?
When ATT finally brings out the 32gb version, I may try to unlock that and use it on TMO, but I've heard that path is fraught with issues too.
I've also heard rumors that TMO may adopt the lumia 1520, but at this point that's all it is; rumors.

The new Lumia Icon to be released on February 20th? will have support for Verizon's LTE AWS band that's the same as T-Mobile's. I'd recommend that as you'll want the faster data speeds.
HSPA+ will get you (in my experience) about 14Mbps down and 7 up... LTE is better than twice that (30-35 down, about 12 up), but most of the time it doesn't matter anyhow (heck, it's faster than my home net connection).

Check out new egg. Do search for 1520.3. It is the unlocked international version that has AWS band. They only have the all black and the white left. Yellow version is gone. Here is a pick of the bands that is printed on the box.

if there is a certain Lumia 1520 that supports AWS HSPA+ (Looks like there is, based on previous posts) You should be able to pick up any 1520 and reflash it with a variant that supports it. (I am basing this on how you can "convert" a 520 to a 521 by reflashing via NCS...)

Oh forgot to mention the version on new egg is 32GB and has the QI charging system instead of the at&t mess they put in there.

On AT&T, but where to get 64gb unlocked version

Knowing that AT&T locks their bootloaders (bastards), I'd like to get a version with an unlocked bootloader that I can mod, swap ROMs, etc.
I've found lots of 32gb versions, but I can't find many 64gb versions out there except those that are ~$1200 and I just can't spend that.
Wondering how others are solving this and getting their hands on one that's AT&T LTE friendly...
Thanks!
edit: also, if you knew a model #, that would be helpful as I'm a bit confused on all the variations.

T-Mobile (N920T) is probably the best, simplest choice. you can sign up for new service, purchase at full price, root it, get it sim unlocked using a root method (search xda) or hassle with T-Mobile and then cancel once you have it SIM unlocked. N920I also works but it's an international model. i'm using the N920T and the dual-sim N9208 on att and both work flawlessly. search-xda is your friend, you'll find all the answers you're looking for. good luck
I just bought an N920i on eBay. It arrives tomorrow. Excited!

I bought an N920T for use on at&t. here is a lengthy discussion about the potential drawbacks to the missing bands when using a tmo on att. TL/DR; on that one is that you might not get service in the boonies using a tmo on att; i haven't ever had a problem with my tmo note 4 in over a year on att.
here is a guy that can provide free SIM unlock (he's fixing to do mine in about 2 hours. many have reported success with him.) in fact i bought a tmo phone under the premise he'd be able to help me, as TMO will make a big fuss about helping you.

thanks for quoting me; i had lost this thread, and there are updates:
there was nothing wrong with the process @stifilz used to unlock the phone. the problem was that my IMEI wasn't recognized by AT&T, so they wouldn't send me LTE service. but i got that straight.
it appears i use primarily bands 4 and 5 here.
ooo so band 17.. you are speaking about an AT&T phone huh?? that's not as good, as there is some debate as to whether or not a TMOBILE phone will receive at&t's band 17 correctly. i think i already linked that thread previously, so you might re-read that to see if it'll provide an issue for you.
cheapest, tho not the easiest, way for you to figure out if you'll have problems is to find a person using an unlocked TMO phone and put your sim card in it, and then see if it gets LTE (particularly band 17)

Good to hear. AT&T made that same mistake with my OPO. Always a chuckle when you know more than the service reps.
Yeah, I've been checking LTE discovery anytime I go anywhere different in DC and it's always band 17 which the TMO version doesn't have. There is band 4 here, but it's considerably less frequent and a much weaker signal. So, that likely means that I'll get spotty LTE service most of the time and have extra battery suck as it works to switch between LTE and 3G. Not sure it's worth it since I'm pretty constantly on the move...

Well there's a guy in a thread iposted about earlier in the Q&A section that spoke up to say his tmobile note 5 does connect to 17 all the time, I'm waiting on his response as to whether that's AT&T band 17 or t-mobile band 17. ( I don't know if there is a difference or if it makes a difference)
Might still be a go

I think that's gotta be a mistake. According to TMO's site, it doesn't have LTE 17 and they're standard frequencies.
But, the question for me will be how strong LTE4 is. It might be enough. I'm trying to figure out how to disable 17 on my OPO for testing...

US X Performance & VoLTE on T-Mobile (or AT&T)???

PLEASE only respond if you live in the US and use T-Mobile (preferred) or AT&T AND have purchased the US version of the XP.................
Not sure if the US Xperia X Performance has been made available yet, but if so, can anyone tell me if it can get VoLTE on either T-Mobile or AT&T? Just wonder if radio/signal-wise it's any different than the int'l XP I have now.
Thanks!
what is the model of the intl version? we can lookup the whitepaper on them and compare the radios

Same model #s: F8132 for dual SIM (mine), F8131 for single-SIM.
they're the exact same radio according to Sony. so hardware wise if intl can do it so can us version. but do the carriers allow it is a whole other issue.

Ok thanks for checking acme! Well the XP has all the same bands as T-Mobile, so they should! Though I found out that XPs used in other countries like Hong Kong DO get VoLTE (I've seen screenshots too), but in the US, both AT&T and T-Mobile SIM cards don't enable that. Weird! I'd still like someone WITH a US XP to confirm that they do or don't have VoLTE though on AT&T and/or T-Mobile.
Yeah like today I was in downtown Chicago with family, and like my parents have the Sony Xperia Z1s (locked phone from T-Mobile). We were down by Navy Pier (by Lake Michigan), and my dad's Z1s (released Jan 2014) was getting better reception than my brand new int'l XP (unlocked not through T-Mobile but from Sony b/c Sony are idiots who don't release phones through carriers anymore and I hate them for it lol).
Now, I thought this was maybe b/c their phones were from T-Mobile so they'd been "configured" to their network, but then my sister's b/f was saying that some of the older model phones have better radio reception than the newer ones b/c the newer ones have more crap CRAMMED into them, which can impede radio reception, despite the XP having a polycarbonate (aka plastic lol) frame which is supposed give you better reception than metal would.
You think that's it? Or do you think it has something to do with the XP not being "configured" by T-Mobile??
Thanks.

i'd bet money it has something to do with a configuration. If Sony already designed a phone where all the radios work why would they break it in later iterations, doesn't make sense. it's also illegal to say the phone can do this and that when it actually can't.

Ok then how do I reconfigure it? lol If it was that the radio was just better/stronger on the Z1s that's one thing, but if it was that my XP somehow wasn't configured "well enough" to T-Mobile's network, despite having all the same bands, then how do I fix that? lol
It could be that the phones are designed a certain way but then the carriers (when they get them to sell) do some extra configuring or tweaking too?
I remember being again in another part of downtown 2 years ago and 2 friends of mine who both had Sprint and the same phone (Galaxy S3) had differing reception. One had all 5 bars lit up, while the other who was only sitting 5 feet away, had like no reception. WTF? lol That's what happened yest except 2 different phones though both are Sony, oh and mine of course is unlocked int'l version.

Sov,
Yeah I know. All I REALLY care about is that I can get Band 12 for data from T-Mobile on my int'l Sony Xperia X Performance phone. I think I can, b/c that has NOTHING to do with VoLTE, which only is used DURING phone calls. I don't care about having Band 12 during phone calls, but I DO care about having it when not on a call.

Haha..........so you have the int'l Sony Xperia X Perf on T-Mobile AND live in the U.S.??? Or know someone that does?
Well I live in Chicago which right now doesn't have Band 12 from T-Mobile. HOWEVER, a few mos ago T-Mobile bought a ton of Band 12 from an AT&T subsidiary, and so now it's only a matter of time before my entire area gets it (pending FCC approval). They say it could be as early as later this year or latest is prob next June. I'll know when it's available b/c T-Mobile will announce but I can also check their spectrum map too. When the area covered by the green circle around Chicago becomes "magenta" and has a bunch of circled 12s put into it, then that'll mean it's live. Can't wait!!

Oh wow! That's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have T-Mobile too though????!
I just wanna be able to get reception (data) in certain areas in downtown like at the Ogilvie Metra Station basement, Untitled club on Kinzie, etc. I'm hoping that Band 12/700 MHz will make that happen. But also for when I'm indoors in certain places in the suburbs.
Thanks for sharing this great info!! I figured it would but wasn't sure. I think the ppl who said no were thinking of VoLTE, or aka having 4G LTE data and/or voice DURING calls.

Awesome! Good to know!!
Haha...........I already tried doing that. I even had someone at T-Mobile's "Network team" contact their "contact" over at Sony Mobile about that issue. Last I heard, they never heard back from the Sony guy. lol But go ahead.........can't hurt!
I couldn't agree more. It's ****ing BS. It's the least they could do after not giving the US Z5 and X Perf a working fingerprint sensor. lol

T-Mobile 600MHz

A few months back I read an article saying the note 8 would likely be the first phone to support T-Mobile's new 600MHz spectrum. I can't find any information on this now. Anyone know if it will in fact support this new spectrum?

They said they would be released 4th quarter that's October so I don't think so. Also t mobile would be tweeting it like crazy I would think
No, I asked on John lagers twitter page and got a reply of no.
Would be great someday...speed thrill's!
I had hope. I guess I'm stuck with Verizon for a bit. I wanted to switch to TMO, but they won't have good coverage where I live until we get the final 600MHz rollout.
wow that kind of sucks,I believe they said 2 phones would support it-maybe the new iPhones or the V30

Back in July, the T-Mobile CTO tweeted saying that LG and Samsung would have phone supporting the network by the end of the year,so it's odd that it isn't.
Just read article on BGR said nope
