Default Photo storage location - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Morning all.
Have a Samsung Galaxy Camera, and love it, but the default storage location of the camera keeps changing... Any ideas how to tell it to just store it on the memory card?
Thanks!

keep your camera in quick-boot mode.
when booting normally the camera app is launched before android is done mounting the memory card, so it's forced to switch to internal storage.

Apps using internal storage

Has anyone had any issues with apps using the internal storage instead of the sd card? Any app I download it uses my internal storage to save. How do I change this so out users my external automatically?

Yea I'm having the same phucking problem and I'm totally fed up with it. I'm about ready to return this POS because Motorola in their phucking infinite wisdom decided to partition the internal memory the way only an idiot would
Wtf? Are you freaking serious Moto? For real. I'd like to meet the idiot who's idea it was to come up with this.
Now we are all limited to a non removable 8gb SD card basically. I can piss 8gb. Where do I freaking put my music Motorola you dumb asses?
Every app I've installed and wanted to use can not have the default location for music changed. So I'm stuck with this tiny ass partition, and an empty 32gb card.
Why the hell even include an External SD card Motorola, why. Its useless

Download App2SD from the market. You can move almost all the apps to the SD card.

I noticed this too when I installed the Amazon MP3 store although If you create a file on the External SD card and manually move your files there the music app will see it and play it from there. You can alse mount the phone on your computer and manually move them or use Astro File Manager to move them on the phone. It does suck though to have to jump through those hoops. Why you can't just change the default location is ludicrous.
Obviously, you guys got your Bionic very very recently.
DO NOT TRANSFER APPS TO SDCARD. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOSE THE APPS AND YOU NEED TO REINSTALL THEM!
MOTO configured Bionic differently (stupid!), and forces all apps to be installed in internal memory.
However, you can still save your media files on the external sdcard.
p.s. Don't use APP2SD on Bionic.
Why is their a better app? Is their a fix

I've been using since day one and it works fine. I haven't lost any apps and haven't had to re-install any of them.

You can use the program to move apps to the media area without issue. As for moving them to the microSD, it won't let you do that, even with root. So, I'm not sure what the fuss is about?

When your phone boots up, it fails to properly recognize apps saved to the media area.
To prevent it, just keep all your apps saved to phone until an OTA arrives addressing it.
Search the forums for disappearing apps to get filled in.
OK I thought the media area was the SD card. But I still haven't had a problem with the apps disappearing.

Neither have I, and I've been using it for almost a week. FWIW, I haven't seen any of the reports of this problem mention Gingerbread or the Bionic. Not saying it can't happen, but I think app updates have fixed the problem.
UPDATED: Been losing apps left and right today. This isn't an APP2SD issue, but a Bionic issue stemming from the way those tards at MOT decided to partition the internal storage. Why do companies do stupid crap like this?
While I was playing around with my lapdock I discovered something intersting.
I was installing some apk files from my back and discovered that my lapdock had several partitions mounted which started with "com."
It didn't take me long to realize that they were the programs moved to my media area.
They apeared as Ian drives and couldn't be innounted.
I devices to test out a suspicion and restarted only to find that those apparatus disappeared.
After some more testing I realized that by moving the files on the phone between the storage and phone until it no longer loads that app as a drive, then that app won't disappear when the phone is powered off or rebooted.
I know that not everyone has a lapdock to get around the disapearing apps, but this is a temporary solution until a fix is actually released.

Motorola! Fix your crap and quit slipping!
i'm so confused about this, i had noticed when i loaded my sd card nothing was getting recognized like widget locker themes stuff like that. then i notice that everything is getting downloaded to the internal memory. i went into settings> storage and changed download location to sd card, but everything is still downloading to internal memory. i just don't understand why it isn't looking at my sd card automatically like all of my other phones did, droid x, t-bolt, og. it's driving me effing crazy though. can someone maybe explain in dummy terms what is going on?

Look at it like this...
Your phone has 16GB of internal memory.
4GB you never see. The system uses that 4GB
8GB is read as internal storage. Motorola designed that for media. That means your videos, pictures and documents.
4GB is for apps. This is where it gets complicated. These 4GB is dedicated to your apps. It was designed to be unintrusive with your main partition.
You shouldn't have to move to SD. Not needed.
Some wishets will only be recognized when the app is on your phone partition.
Does this answered your question?

Just go into "settings, applications, manage applications" and click the "media area" tab. Any apps that have a "check mark" in them are stored to what is called the "media area." If it reads "com.*" then it has already been uninstalled. Just go reinstall it. Then go in there and all the apps with the check mark... click on the app, and then click the "move to phone" button. Wait a few seconds while it transfers it.
Sadly this is annoying and also sometimes makes the market think that the apps are not installed.
Freaking Motorola. They make such good hardware, it's a pity they put such crap inside.

List of features removed in JB

It may be a good idea to list them in one place. For sure it would help me decide if I want to upgrade or not. If there is a list already let me know and I will delete the thread.
Updated list:
- Overscan option in Settings -> Display
- Selection of audio output device when HDMI is connected
- Mass Storage option in USB computer connection
- Live Icons
- Sleep Mode option in Power Menu
- Timer
- Move to SD card in Settings -> Storage -> Manage Internal Storage
- Google Play Music Widget on the lock screen
- Music option for Alarm Sound
I'm not sure how to put it more concisely, but the context menus that come up when you swipe over certain icons (Calendar, Browser, etc.) are disabled.
No sleep mode on power menu. Anyone notice better camera quality?

I don't know how to say it gone is the red tint gone? I know its not just my phone cause some of the reviews actually talk about the colors being off on this phone.

No more timer, it's just alarms now. I used the timer daily...
Camera's no better, and if I'm not mistaken, aren't we supposed to have photosphere? Or is that 4.2 functionality?

What is the reason for removing mass storage? I can't see all the files in my internal SD anymore in only media mode :/ I know there are PC and Play Store file managers but mass storage was pretty convenient.

Google removed it from the OS. I think that was done in ICS, but Motorola put it back. Motorola is evaluating the items removed for possible inclusion in a future update.

Camera is better in low light, much much better low light photos.

Coming a Lumia 920, nothing else on the market comes close to actually giving you good low light photos without a lot of noise. I know the premium suite upgrade on the Galaxy S 3 allegedly gives you better low light shots but that's a bit of a stretch.

My Atrix HD (running JB) has the Google Play Music widget on the lockscreen. (See screenshot below)
Also, I use MTP and it shows up on my computer just like Mass Storage did. Giving me options to acces Internal Storage and the SD Card and allows me to move files.

Just simple paranoia. lol I thought the same thing at first. But yes, unplugging the usb cable safely removes it from your computer. It will not do any long term damage.

[Q] Gallery Broken?

Hey, I just upgraded from Beast 19/12 to Beast 24/12 and my gallery app seems to be broken somehow by it(?) or maybe broken anyway.... I can't open pictures on my phone (it gets stuck) and when I enter the gallery app settings (which happened in 19/12 as well) it stops working.
also I wanted to know if there's an option of opening the gallery from the external SD card and if there's an option to save from the camera to the external as well.... Thanks in advance

Set ExSD as main storage.

Is it possible to make your external SD card your main storage source when installing apps and downloadng files?

Unfortunately, nope. As far as I can tell, most of that will be fixed once we can root and install the SDFix, but until then...we're SOL. The most you can do right now is use the SD card as the main storage for the camera and music that you transfer to it. For apps, you're limited only to the apps that specifically comply to the new SD restrictions and even then all you can do is move most the app data.

Yeah, definitely sucks. I'm using doubleTwist as my music/podcast app and it won't let me use the SD card as my main storage. So now I have to go through the annoying task of manually moving the downloaded podcasts to my SD card. Not really that annoying, but it's just an extra step that I shouldn't need to do

Storing photos on external sdcard by default

Is there a method to store photos/videos on the external sdcard by default? I've got a rooted i9295 running a recent Cyanogenmod nightly.
Possibly there is there a camera application that allows setting the default storage location for photos. Something I'm missing here? TIA.

Once you change it, it remains that way until you change it back.
I use open camera, because cyanogens camera did not have that option before.
I deleted the default camera, how can i get it back?
