Hi guys,
I am really disappointed of the camera of the XZ, because since I've tried to shoot some photos, it simply can't focus on anything. The camera behaves kind of strange, when I try to focus and shoot the photo. It makes only really smooth pictures which are very blurred. I suppose that this isn't any normal. So I wanted to ask here, if anyone in here does have the same issue and solved it somehow, or if there is someone who can tell me if it's software problem or a hardware problem. If you'd like to I can add a picture to prove it.
Thanks in advance!
You should get the phone checked out bit before you do check you are on superior auto and if it can't focus on anything tap the image to focus on a certain part like a face. See if that helps. Thank me if I have helped

I know about the tapping on the screen to focus, but that simply doesn't help.

I am using the auto mode. My friend uses the same settings as I do and his camera is working a lot better its sharper and clearier.
Couldn't it be an hardware issue?
Later on I will add my settings.

The pumping AF @ videomode is very bad. I think singlefocus and focus while tapping the screen will be ok.

The fix is already there. If you're getting annoyed by continuous AF, then turn it off in the settings.
I don't understand why people are complaining about this, do you somehow think that the One is the only phone that does this? Unless you turn of continuous AF on any phone, video will always have an in-out focus effect when you pan.

Agreed,
I would KILL for an autofocus off button on my nexus 4. Thing is such a piece.
Hey guys, its happening to me too.
Do you know if it's a particular phone problem and just giving it to service will help it?
or is it a phone model problem?
Thanks
How do we do this on the Google Edition? It's absolutely killing me to not be able to take a steady video without that irritating pumping action. Is there a solution?
I've looked for apps on in the Play store, but nothing really has the frame rates and quality that I require.

Guys I have a problems my camera sometime doesn't focus someone told me it might need a lens calibration does anybody knows how to do this ??? Please help me out
Have you managed to find a solution for the focus problem?
I seem to have the same problem and the camera refuses to focus for a second picture until I increase of decrees the ZOOM factor for a bit. I think that this is a software problem though as I do not recall having this problem on Android 4.1.1

I had that problem as well. I think it's a setting thing. When you leave it on auto pic, the camera is trying to use the "best mode" to shoot that particular picture. When I use Expert settings and set the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO myself, not only do I get much better shots, but I no longer have that focusing problem anymore. My wife is a photog and she taught me about this stuff. =)
Unfortunately it does the same on Expert mode...
Hello, my Mi A2 seems to have a strange effect when focusing on the primary lens. I would just like to know if this is normal or not. It seems when on the low light lens the focus is even across the image but the primary lens it seems to wash from one side to the other.
Here is a video to illustrate.
Does anybody else's do this? Thanks!
I've been having the same issue for a while now! It's very annoying and I have no idea how to fix it! I've been using the low light lens and just taking pictures with that. I cannot tell if it is a hardware or software issue either. I'm going to install a custom rom soon, just haven't had time to do it, so hopefully that fixes the issue!
i think it's a software issue, because after capture everything is OK

I still have issues after capture. If I'm capturing text the top half is unreadable in portrait because it's so blurry, and when I tap to focus on the top it doesn't help.
Same issues here
I have exactly the same issue... It seems like the extremes of the picture are better and the sides really blurry. For text is really bad, and also for pictures when you want the focus not being in the center. As you mention, touching the focus does not help.
I have no solution for now, thinking on sending it back...
Doubed HW issue
I'm sorry to say I feel it like a HW issue as I am facing the same issue with GCam in my MI A2.
i too have the same problame even after capture...
It's fixed on my phone now, unfortunately I had to get a new camera module. The issue is likely caused by a misaligned lens element, so the only option is to swap the camera module or warranty the phone. Mine works great now. Shouldn't have had to fix it but I guess these things happen I guess.

It should be pretty straightforward, here's a teardown video: https://youtu.be/mo92gAwKv6s. That should walk you through getting the module out.

Can you send a link to the module you got? There's several between eBay and AliExpress I've seen, but am looking for a reliable one.
I have the same problem, I think it's began after update to pie 9, Is it possible? I try everything like clear cache, factory reset, hitting the camera. What is your solution ? Only change the camera with new ?

Don't think this would help as this seems like a HW issue affecting only some devices.

mia2 camera issue after pie update
my mia2 primary camera does not focus properly ,videos are totally blurred after the pie update, hope xiomi resolves the camera issue soon.I think this is software issue,if it would have been a HW issue, why would the camera hadbeen working perfectly on OREO?
I am not much interested in camera when i bought Mi A2, it works fine. but recently when i was taking picture, it was half side blur and i was not able to make focus on upper side of camera. i tried all modes but no use. I have Note 6 Pro and it's camera functions and focus properly.
in mi A2 I observed when in MANUAL mode i select Lens as LOW LIGHT, it works (but in manual mode only).
do any one has some solution or give reason to behave camera like this.
Same here
It was a February patch bug and it seems to persist in March patch... Xiaomi.

This is a hardware problem, I also had this, give the phone a guarantee.
P.S. sorry for english(
How so we both have exactly the same problem and mine started with pie?
Looks like this is a hardware issue, I'm having the same problem after 4 months of use.
Same here, I also took it to guarantee and they told me it was a software problem, but when they gave it back to me nothing had changed. Camera still not working

I had ordered it from this website but I had paid the cheapest shipping, I'm from Mexico so it will take a while to arrive to my country.. maybe next month..
I had the same problem and replaced the camera module with a new one, and the problem was fixed... temporarily because 3 months after it started happening again with the new camera, so either I am super unlucky, or it must be some other defect in the phone that tends to breaks the primaey cameras...
At this point I don't think I am going to replace it again. Do you know of any way of recording videos with the low light camera?
I have the same issue. In fact this issue persists in the video mode as well. Its okay for videos of objects nearby but move even a few metres away and it becomes very difficult to focus. I was at this concert and wanted to record the performance but only got a very blurry video with muffled sound. For photos this issue is especially an inconvenience when taking photographs of documents etc where you could very well do without the unnecessary bokeh effect. In MANUAL mode this does reduce a bit, but not to any extent that helps.
I was just told by a friend that installing the Google camera mod might help, but I'm yet to try it out.
I have same problem with upper side blur. Seems that switching to "manual" mode and change "lens" from "regular" to "low light", as said by the original user. It works fine with me. Thanks for the tips ! ........ so it is not the hardware problem, it is a software problem. Changing camera may not work ! Don't know if they are going to release new firmware to solve it or not ?? Any idea how to upgrade the firmware ?

If it is a hardware problem I do not see why it would prevent using the secondary camera, it can be a problem with the lenses (Have you thrown or hit your phone?) and not with the module. There are those who have returned to Oreo and the problem persists.
My sister has a MI A2 and there's something wrong with his camera. As you can see on the sample photo always focus bottom of picture. If I use manual mode it is better but not perfect at all and manual focus doesn't help neither. Pls if you have some advice or anything, help.

You can try hard reset it or flash new firmware. Or you can try Gcam to see if the problem fixed.. If you've tried all of this, and still have issues mean your camera is faulty

And what if camera is faulty? Can I buy a replacement?
I think this is not a problem. Because the blur is gradually increase from near to far. This is natural blur create by portrait mode. The software of mi a2 something click photos in portrait mode when the portrait mode is not enable. Just try to put device in safe mode then go to camera app and go to manual mode. Enable manual focus and then focus it manual and then suddenly move the bar to auto mode this will fix the camera's focusing issue if it is present.
