So I'm gonna be buying an 'unlocked', HTC one from a shop here in Eastern Europe, and I wanna know how to verify if the phone is locked to a certain region or cell provider.
I travel a lot and I wanna make sure I get the unlocked phone and not locked phone since I'll be paying a lot.

Im in bulgaria at the moment and they'll be receving the phone on april 15th.. and the shop i've spoken to say it will be unlocked, but what if it only works in bulgaria while im here and when i leave and go back to USA, it doesnt work?
Cuz i know they have the developers edition but only in states, but i wont be back for another 6 months for that...
so it'd be nice to find out somehow if its locked to some network/region or ok to use worldwide!
It's a world phone, in terms of GSM, but the States have different LTE bands.
LTE won't work
So does that mean my data connection will b non-lte? I but I'd still get hspa in states rite?
And make phone calls lol?
Cuz I don't wanna buy the phone if it's not gonna work worldwide since I travel a lot

Just spoke to a HTC rep and she said that the phone in Europe works on differ frequency compared to USA or Asia, and she wasn't sure if it'll work worldwide even as a gsm. But the developers edition will work as a world phone according to her
Given that it mite not be able be a world phone?
So confused

Whats your US network? Someone has bought a Europe phone and uses it on AT+T with no problem, just need to disable fast dormancy.
Actually, heres the thread, I'm not sure he fixed it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210488&highlight=verizon
I'll prolly be using tmobile in the states, but I've seen the people from Pocketnow and phonedog etc... And they use the international phone on att or tmobile without signal issue.. Only they've to sacrifice the LTE
So my guess is that person's phone mite have bad coverage near where he lives..

Why don't you just go down to Walmart? They have them there already. Besides you'r on ATT and will get no 3g I thought with one from O2? I believe you need one from Telstra (Australian) network and your 3g will work.

I see the rebel sim cards are being developed for wp7 so perhaps 3g is still in the game if i get a tmobile version. I s being on edge versus 3g really that big of a difference anyway?
oh yeah, it's like swimming in tar lol (edge).
Isn't the phone Quad Band? Surely the device will work on all of the GSM networks?
I hope it's that or it's going to be quite a mission finding the right device to work on the right networks int the right countries.
in the u.s., the only 2 big gsm carriers (at$t, t-mo) operate on different bands. the rest of the world is ok lol, the telstra(sp) operates on at$t w/ 3g, any one else on t-mo gets edge.

So would the T-Mobile HD7 work on standard GSM bands (900MHz and 1800MHz for South Africa)?
I love this phone but I'm in Tmobile does anyone know if it can be unlocked for tmob

hey, i'm also from t-mobile
Yea, the Thrill can work on T-Mobile if you've unlocked it. However it can only run on its 2G network.
If you want to get cheaper and don't mind the slow data speeds, you can get the Thrill and unlock it.
For me, i bought mine here and it's able to access T-Mobile's 3G network. More pricey, but if money didn't matter I think its a better choice. Its also a safe purchase, I checked them out and they have a real store and certified by the Better Business Bureau
Unlicked = LoL
Anywho, if you want this phone but want Tmo bands then get the Optimus 3D.

Be careful though, because the Rogers branded Optimus 3D (marketed as the Optimus 3D as well, no cheesy marketing name like 'Thrill') does not have T-Mo's 1700 band. I believe the international Optimus 3D does have the proper bands though.
Getting a Rogers O3D would be quite difficult to even get.
Awesome. Thank you for the input. One more question, you mentioned something about the bands. Can they be flashed like Roms or am I wrong? I no Tmobile is on the 1700 and att is at 1900 if I'm not mistaken.

Not all the unlocked Optimus 3D that you find internationally supports T-Mobile's 3G network.
Search around and make sure you pay attention to the 3G network bands. Don't worry about the 2G Network bands because those are bound to work for both T-Mobile and AT&T. Just make sure the one you purchase includes 1700. If it helps, the ebay link I gave earlier is where I got my phone.
Also the bands can't be flashed through a rom. The bands are from hardware... you're stuck with it once you purchase your phone.

Pretty much I was gonna say.
Eventually there will most likely be an Unlock Solution for this phone that doesn't cost money persay unless you want to donate. As it stands you could always contact one of those remote unlocking sites and get it unlocked. Either way though there will most likely be an unlock solution it's just too early in the game to get it for this phone.
Awesome thanx for all your support and questions answered. I'm going to check that link out for sure

Somebody explain me that its worldwide phone with GSM and CDMA modyles, buy i am not sure, for example Samsung S3 Sprint cannot work in Russia.
A lot of the newer Sprint are CDMA only, not GSM. Some of the newer LTE devices are GSM capable, and out of the box will roam on GSM networks outside of the United States. You have to get them unlocked to use a local sim card in the device, and as far as the HTC goes, I "think" only Sprint can unlock it at this point unless a dev figures it out.

After looking at that link above I just realized one of the leaked pictures was actually from Malaysia.
Now I wonder if it'll be released in my country (Indonesia) as well. I may be hoping but I'm not hoping much at all. Indonesia is like one of the least "Google-cared" country. We get new devices so late it's not even new anymore.
Then again it might be our retail shops / carriers that just went full retard and think "Meh, who the hell buys Nexus in this country anyway? Why should we rush to get this phone in?"
Damn it
I might get one from Singapore if it was released there, though. Should there be any problems warranty is much easier to process (I fly back and forth every few months).
I asked singtel on their fb page. Their response:
Dear Jeremy, thank you for your interest. Do keep a look-out! Please be assured that we will keep you informed once we have an update. Thanks
"do keep a look out" sounds rather promising, but I'm only cautiously optimistic

But I'm not gonna buy w contract though. Seems like I'm the only one amongst my friends w 12gb data cap.. And I'm not gonna give that away. Starhub 3g is fast enough
If its released in Malaysia then all the more better. Just a drive/ride across 2nd link or causeway

I am also in SG. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 12GB contract on LTE. Singapore telcoms just followed suit with the USA and went for the massive cash grab known as metered billing.
I think that it's wrong to go from 12GB to 2GB of data while keeping the price the same. The price per month should have been lowered according to the data offered.
You have to admit though we are still paying a lot less than people in the USA. (http://www.androidcentral.com/us-mobile-data-prices-among-most-expensive-world)
My plan:
120 (outgoing mins)
600 SMS
2GB data
$39SGD (31.40 USD) per month
I have a friend that lives in the UK. I will be getting him to order me a white 32GB so that I can take advantage of LTE.
Hi!
I'm planning to buy a customized Moto X unlocked GSM edition but I'm wondering if it'll work outside the US.
At Moto they don't know as "they haven't tried it". And is confusing as it says on their website that is GSM unlocked but comes with a t-mobile sim card, so it's unlocked to work with t-mobile and at&t only or also open to other compatible GSM networks around the world? Has anyone had the chance to try it?

Most phones shipped these days support most 2g/3g bands to support international roaming features. Say you're going to Europe, i wouldn't count on you getting anywhere near LTE speeds or even 4g speeds because there networks aren't that developed yet, put in simple terms, but there's a good chance that you can still get a supported 2g/3g connection, does that make sense? I would take it with me if i were you, no harm in that right?

3G is fast enough. As the 4G network is not fully developed (no full country coverage), and the prices are still high, I don't think it's really worth stressing too much about it. I ordered myself a MotoX from the states with a non-compatible LTE hardware just now. I know that I won't use that technology in a comfortable way anyways for the next 2 years. For my personal needs, 3G+ is more than enough.
