[Q] HTC Dev account/ warranty - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
I want to get the HTC One to replace my Galaxy S II as my contract just expired. I used to have a HTC Touch HD back in the ol' WinMo days and I find the HTC One more appealing than the Galaxy S IV (UK edition) or the Xperia Z
I had only one question though - if in the unlikely event that my phone suffers a hardware issue and I'm unlocked and rooted etc, will I be able to restore the phone to the state I got it from or will there be some sort of detectable change by HTC that lets them see that I've tinkered with the software and so can't get warranty support?
I ask this because I had an issue with my Galaxy S II and there was a program that stopped the flash counter on that from working so I could just restore the stock ICS firmware on that and send it in to get it fixed a couple of months ago, and I feel that having a custom ROM is sort of a necessity for me now (flashaholic...), so is it possible for me to (in the event of a disaster) restore the phone firmware via fastboot etc and send it back in to HTC?
TLDR - If I root a HTC One can I restore it completely for warranty purposes so HTC doesn't realise?
Thanks in advance, I apologise for being retarded/nooby etc....

If its a Dev phone it probably wont matter. Its sold for development purposes. I'm not positive here but i think the only way to make one 100% back to stock is to be s-off. All recent HTC phones say tampered on the bootloader when unlocked. I think s-off is needed to fix that..

You can but it says relocked and you submit all your phones details to htc when unlocking the bootloader. But if you go on the android revolution blog. Mike has done a great post on how it doesn't void warranty. I have sent my relocked phone and htc have been fine.

Wow, thanks, I found the post and it was very informative. I'm not planning on damaging my brand new HTC One when I do get it, but it is handy to know that I'll be covered if something else that isn't my fault does indeed go wrong, as was the case for my current S2!
Thanks for the advice, I just need to see how the contract works with respect to keeping my phone number etc, and then hopefully I'll be getting the phone

Your warranty becomes null and void the moment you unlock the bootloader using Alpharevx or Revolutionary methods. It even becomes void if you use htcdev.com method to install recovery (with a still locked boot). Obviously, if you use a xtc clip to permanently unlock the bootloader also, you warranty becomes void. So bottom line: Locked phone with stock ROM = still in Warranty. Any unlock to change ROM = No Warranty, unless you want to resell or try to get a refund / exchange. IMHO, unlock & root is like a schoolgirl losing her virginity nowadays, not a big issue and they try to achieve it the fastest, best and most pleasurable way!!!
Most of us Indians are using unlock by Alpharevx or Revolutionary and thereafter running a sense 3.0 3.5 ROM. I would personally recommend ARHD, its fast, stable and gives good reception & battery life.

Thanks for the Response!
Does all hardware ( Bluetooth, WIFI, camera etc) are working fine in ARHD? Is it possible to get official OTA update after switching to ARHD? I would like to use sense 3.0 with Android 2.3.5, please suggest me which rom is best (No Major Issues and almost all are working fine)
Thanks

Warranty issue, how to relock phone?

Hi all, i have warranty on my phone and a issue with screen images burning in! I know it's AMOLED sscreen stuff but this mine is faulty! I have nvFlashed it to stock Froyo rom, and updated with LG update tool to v20l! Question is can i lock my phone to carier like it was on start? Will they confirm warranty if it is unlocked?

Hello!
Well this is a question only the service staff from your provider can answer in the end...
But if someone asks you could say LG Update tool is responsible since you just updated with it…
…or you get a branded rom form your provider somehow/somewhere!?!?
No you can't SIM lock the phone, and it being unlocked should have no effect on the warranty (as long as it was done by code, and not some horrible hack-job, I guess).
Ok well than it was unlocked by code

[Q] - HTC One - developer edition required for custom roms?

Hi,
I'm getting a HTC One this week and I would like to know whether I need to get the Developer edition to use custom roms or whether the xda community has already found a way to unlock a locked bootloader on the standard HTC One?
I'm not worried about the phone being unlocked for carriers (I'm sticking with o2).
also, is there any other benefit of the Dev Edition or is it purely so it isn't locked to a carrier and unlocked bootloader?
Hi
Greetings,
If you.want to flash a custom Rom I prefer you get the developer edition
Yes we can unlock, root and install custom Rom on the normal HTC one.
Getting the developers editions will save your time in unlocking bootloader
Choices is yours:thumbup:

Hey, I just bought the HTC One Dev, it is on its way. I've been using iOS for a long time and this phone looks better to me than the iPhone 5.
Anyway, it will be my first Android device so I am a complete noob. Will flashing roms to Dev Edition also void the warranty? Just curious, I know that if done right, nothing will go wrong, just want to know if there is any other benefit other than 64GB and not having to root it. Another question, how can I root original Sense 5 to the phone if I later decide to sell it or just want the stock back?
Thanks in advanced.
Edit: Wrong thread
I got my htc one (non dev edition) and was able to unlock bootloader, root and install custom roms without issue.
no idea about warranty

No updates

Hi my name is meraj. I have purchased HTC one through a local website in Dubai ( which they claim that they bought from UK ) . I have been using it since July and I didn't get any updates . All my friends got new 4.2 or 4.3. Version. But I am still running the same old 4.0... I didnt do any cracks or customization to my phone just using as it is since unboxing.. please help me how it could be normal and how can I get regular updates . It also gives some message in startup .
Please help.
Thanks

Hello Meraj,
That message means that your phone has been modified from stock. That's why you won't get updates.
Boot the phone into the bootloader, and post the information it displays, here
It will tell you what Carrier ID and firmware it's using, among other things.
Maybe the phone can be reverted back to stock software.
Thanks for your reply..
Here is the picture of bootloader.
Can it be revert back . While in bootloader I saw couple of options of rebooting or to factory setting , wipe out n all.. will it be helpful .
Thank you

That confirms it.
That boot loader screen shows:
1) the phone is unlocked.
2 ) the "tampered" flag is set, which is probably because a custom recovery (TWRP aka Win Recovery) has been flashed on the phone.
3) the Hboot is version 1.44. That's a good thing.
Now you need to determine what the CID and MID are.
Do you have "ADB" installed on a computer that you can use ?
And if you wish to continue it with better rom... Try flashing ViperOne.... I bought from Dubai, used, unlocked & tempered too

To have ota update, you need both CID and MID that matches regions that received and update. You also need stock recovery and locked bootloader (yours is unlocked and I guess you have a custom recovery installed)
we need the info from fastboot getvar all command to help you
but do not post info related to your s/n and imei
if you don't know how, go read about adb and fastboot first
update help
hello guys.. thank you all for your help//
somehow manage to get these details about fastboot. . i am adding the picture.. i dont understand much but i have intuition that it might be asia ruu. please help me find one.. but one thing please if i go back to original stock then will i face the sim lock problem ( as i bought it in dubai and if the phone is from another country and by some other carrier on which only their sim works)? and main concern that if i will get all the regular updates launched by htc,
thank you
update help
i am sorry the picture wasnt clear before
IMPORTANT Make s-off first.
Sent from my HTC 802w
The phone is indeed from the UK as it's a Vodafone handset. Good news is you can get S-OFF following the revone thread and then flash the generic 1.28.401.7 RUU to get back to 100% and it will then get the OTA updates to get up-to-date
What about the SIM lock .. so before flashing important thing is to s off ..

[Q] Rooting HTC One On Three UK?

Hi there,
I would like to root my device which is currently on Three UK and infall a custom rom. I am thinking of installing the Venom ViperOne rom but everywhere i have read and watched, the tutorials have been for rooting US devices. Will i be able to use the Viper rom on my UK HTC One and use the rooting videos for US devices?
Furthermore I would like to be able to return back to the factory settings at a later date just in case it needs repairs. I have read somewhere that i will need to flash the stock rom back on and reset the boot loader? is there anything special i need to do for my UK variant or will the videos using the US devices work for me?
Thank you in advance for any help given. You guys on XDA are brilliant when it comes to helping noobs like me
