[Q] No Data Connection, No or Unknown Signal Battery Drain - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i am having a big battery drain recently. My ROM is cm 10.1 20130304 galaxysmtd m2(stable) with stock cm kernel. I get 1% drain every 2 min with WiFi on, 3 to 4 minutes when using with out WiFi.
I checked better battery stats to search for battery draining apps and found that No Data Connection and No or Unknown Signal. See screen shots from below

I have a good battery signal with -85 which is full bar signal and also I never use 3g or 2g mobile data since I already have WiFi connection. But these two battery drainer bothers me a lot. They wont sleep even idle or my phone enters deep sleep.
If you also have the same issue, kindly share it also here I can't be the only one having this issue. Hoping for some solutions coming

I have the same issue with my i9000 after flashing CM9. My BetterBatteryStats stats are the same.
The battery drains very fast.
Did you figured out a solution for this?

I had the same problem this week. After half a day my battery was empty. I noticed that an application was using WiFi a lot. BetterBatteryStats couldn't give me enough information.
The problem was caused by K-9 mail. Accounts with IMAP settings made K-9 constantly polling. After changing it to POP3 the problem was solved. If you use K-9 mail, give it a go.

Me too!
I have this problem too, but I am not an expert with software, so someone please help us, I don't know how to solve this problem!

i had this problem mine is working again no data loss for a week .
what i did was flashed darky 10.2 re the went and flashed alliancerom jw4 then jw8 downloaded apn tweaker from google play store phone working normal again

[Q] Battery problems when mobile data active

When i turn on mobile data, my phone loses ~7% of the battery per hour. I've already changed the battery about a month ago to a new one, what haven't solved the problem.
Also i have tried almost all available modems for the sgs and even for the nexus s (these modems work very good with only ~1% battery loss, but there is the problem that only the first phone call after reboot is working well).
Here is a screenshot of the battery life:

One time i thought that an app is using the data connection constantly, but the problem also consists with a fresh updates samsung stock build and all other kitchens (incl. ICS nighlies).
Can anybody help me solving this problem.
Thanks in advance!
Reset battery stats by charging to 100% (Full charge). Go to recovery and wipe battery stats. Continue charging for a further 30 mins. And wipe again.
See if that works
I tried this now with the same result...
It's not getting better, and i think the battery is not the problem. When i call someone the battery drains only about 8% an hour on 3G. The only problem is when mobile data connection is active and so i turn it off after useage, but thats not how a smartphone is supposed to be used.
Sure that no apps are running in the background like faceboor or whatsapp? Seems like something avoids the deepsleep.
I seem to have the exact same problem. The battery drain is caused solely by mobile data being on. When I switch to wi-fi the battery drain stops immediately.
I tried battery calibrations, fresh installs, complete wipes, using no apps, using all my apps, turning all sync off. I also tried different modems, and turning on/off roaming and other mobile data settings to see if they had any effect. Everything I do seems to have no effect on the battery drain except for turning off mobile data.
I added a screenshot to clarify what I mean; this is when using all apps on a moderate sync scheme (gmail and exchange on push, facebook/twitter/other apps either completely off or on 1-2 hour schedules, no changes made in apps or usage during the described period of use.)
Obviously, not using mobile data anymore is no solution to this problem.
I'm using Android 4.0.4 (Team Nyx's RC5, Devil 0.79, XXJVU modem).
I used the JVU modem for a couple of days but ZSJPG was a lot better, also the KF1 was better but not as stable as the ZSJPG.
I have this problem too, for battery when install some apps and open thats cpu usage in backgroun got very fast even if the phone is in Standby and all apps are cloused and my battery get low and lower in les 24 houres . I have this problem in my I9000T 2.3.3
can any boddy help me

I tried the ZSJPG modem as well. It didn't make any difference; same behaviour. I now removed my APN settings; I now temporarily only use wi-fi. It'll easily reach 36 hours now, so no battery problems either.
Did you try a full wipe (realy everything incl. internal SD card, go back to the original firmware (samfirmware.com) and install your custom rom again.
(p.s. a small tip, i'm using tiramislim v2 right now, and its seriously GREAT, also with battery! Devil kernel / zsjpg modem)

As I said, yes. Multiple times even. No improvement whatsoever.
I think this could be related to carriers network as many mobile networks are build just before rise of smartphone era. I heard of Fast Dormancy technology which alows disconnect smartphone from mobile data as single session stops. This problem exists not only on our Sgs.
Ask your carrier if it is going to use this near future.

That would be true if I had the same problem before updating to 4.0.4, but I had excellent battery life before the update with mobile data on.

Sudden battery drop

Does anyone have an idea as to what happened to my battery here? I'm thinking faulty battery unless someone has seen this before?

mee too
Does this happen often???
Cuz im facing the similar problem but for me .....gigantic battery drops occur after i resart the phone.......may be we should change our KERNEL. I heard hydracore is gr8
I wouldnt say its your battery, If you look at the blue lines below you will see that there is a big gap when screen is off, Yet the phone is waking up many many times whilst the screen is off.
This says to me that there is an app causing your phone to not enter deep sleep. Your best bet would be to install Better Battery Stats (free on XDA, Paid on Play store) and/or Watchdog lite.
this will tell you which apps and proccesses are using more power than needed. Then you can take action from there.
Battery drain is an issue for most android users, and has millions of possible causes, so elimination is key to finding the culprit.
ofcourse.. this is happening because of wakelocks... power off the phone. remove the battery for a minute and pack it up again boot into recovery.. wipe battery stats and check again

It's only happened this once. And I think the vertical line suggests it was during a reboot?
I've dealt with wakelocks before but never seen this. I'll have a look with betterbatterystats to see for those wake events.

I'll give this a go.
This occured to me on XXLSA Jelly bean, after researching, I found it is due to media scanner running for long time
I used Rescan media root app from play store to disable media scanner and this didn't happen again
It is worth noting that this problem would NEVER happen in CM-based ROMs - Huge battery life!
Hmm I've been running CM10 since the nightlies first appeared and tbh, whether on original battery or gold battery or my extended battery, I always get drops offs (maybe only 5 per cent) on any reboot
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I noticed battery drop after I started bluetooth my music through my car stereo.
Apparently it's a bug in a file called "media server" in Android that causes that.
The short fix is, after I stream music, if I'm not going to stream for a while, I reboot
the phone. Killing the service for media server won't stop it, you have to reboot.
I ran a battery program that showed overnight, the media server wasn't going to
sleep, kept wakelocking. After rebooting, the battery only lost 2-3% overnight,
and before, it was losing 10-20% overnight. Might be worth looking into.
full decharge (1bar,not really full) and fullbrechargr cycles might make it better. A sudden drop like this screams battery replacement. If in warrantee period get it replaced.

Ultra fast battery discharge of the battery with new service provider

Hi guys. I've changed my service provider several days ago. Before that I've used 2g mobile operator with poor cover and internet. So I've bought 3g and inserted sim-card into my 2x. After that my battery disarched after 4 hours of sleep. Ok, I've switched to 2g only mode. It didn't fixed my problem. I've even disabled mobile data and it didn't worked!
With my previous 2g operator, my phone worked 1-2 days of full using, emails, mobile internet, music, youtube etc...
I use stable [ROM] [2013-02-08] CM10 on Unlocked ICS Bootloader (pengus77) and stable 100p5 Kowalski Kernel.
I'm living in Ukraine. My old mobile operator was "Life!" and new is "OGO Ukrtelecom" with fallback to 2g operator "Kyivstar".
Maybe I must change sim or BB? Can someone help me?
PS. Sorry for my bad english and russian screens.

And yes, I've wiped data/facrory reset, wiped cache partition, wiped dalvik cache, wiped battery stats. And yes, the phone was in deep sleep during this discharge (look at screens).

no need for that my friend.....just make a nandroid backup first.....smart flash the BB and then restore....
for the battery app....BetterBattery Stats will be the most suitable one for the battery draining issue

Thanks, I will do this!
So I've found the solution for better battery life:
1. v30b BB.
2. Pengus cm10 look ma no nands. (not tonyp rom, it has really crappy battery life for me).
3. kk123 and all optimization fixes in Kowalski manager, excluding dynamic fsync (unstable).
4. Greenify.
5. Disable all location services.
6. !Using ONLY wall charger, because kk isn't works normally with usb charger at this time!
7. !3g/2g only, NO wi-fi when not near wall charger! ( WCDMA preffered in *#*#4636#*#* )
8. Disable IMS in *#*#4636#*#* .
With this I can normally use my phone all the day without charging.

Moto X battery draining on cell standby!

It was all good before but it suddenly started to drain out the battery. I saw the battery stats, its the cell standby that's using almost all the battery. I turned off the moto voice and moto display, no change. Maybe it has something to do with the location reporting as I heard somewhere. Even in airplane mode it still drains the heck outta it.
Some information:
Model: XT1058
Version: Lollipop 5.0.2 Stock
Status: Rooted
Developer options: untouched
Additional:
- Greenify installed
- No battery savers installed
- Drains even with USB charging and no activity with phone
See the Screenshots attached below.

I have turned off location reporting and kept in charging or a while. I will update the thread if it's solved.
And it still remains the same, although the battery is slightly increased.

when you are not using 4g services than set network preference to 3g or 2g. disable mobile data when connected to wifi.

I'm always on WiFi, I already set to 3g as I use it occasionally but its not just that, airplane mode is useless, it shows radio uses battery. Maybe reseting is the only option.
I think this was common in the 5.0.2 version, I had bad standy cell drain and i think a lot of people on the MFN soak test forums also complained about it.

The only way i've found to get rid of the mobile standby battery drain is to keep wifi off. Dropped from 71% (one day with wifi and 4g on) to 4% (entire day with only 4g on). Only wifi with mobile data off still gets the mobile standby issue, albeit with better total battery life. Android 5.1 update just sucks for battery compared to 4.4.4, used to get through an entire day with 30-40% left and now im at 1% at 10pm.
Moto x battery draining on cell standby!
Even I am also facing the same trouble in my Moto x 2013 version which was not there in kitkat. I guess it is a hardware issue as my friend is also having the same mobile but he is not facing this issue.
Is there a bug fix for this yet?
I don't have the issue anymore and I turned of cell internet when not needed, installed power nap, wakelock detector, greenify, servicely, GSM battery, recently, and DS battery saver. One of those or all of them help, I don't know, but I get 7 hours screen time and my phone can run for 3 days without use
---------- Post added at 12:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------
I also think there's a bug in how Android reports the battery use because the app GSM battery sometimes shows a completely different use if battery stats and the GSM makes more sense so I think it's right and not Android
See the difference. Android has my screen using 75%, but GSM battery has it at 55%. The other totals are close. I have seen it a lot worse than this though.
See I keep data off and I don't have problem. The bug is, the switch from WiFi to data using voice over IP, or vise versa. Google has to find a way for it to work, without the cell stanby issue
Is there no way to fix this with root?
Tucking makes the hone unusable

Battery problems or not?

Hi,
Why I lose more battery with screen off than with screen on?
I had the same problem with Android Lollipop, with many combo of ROM/kernel. Battery problems?
Android 6.0 official - Despair kernel 31.2 (2 cores - 35MHz-2649MHz)

EDIT : solution find : I've switched my WiFi network on my Nexus 6 from 5GHz to 2.4GHz
Can't be sure. Seems like some Google service is out of its mind. Same on Lollipop. Not sure if its the same source but looks similar case.

to be honest with you, after looking at everything, im guessing that its your wifi router. i had a similar probkem a few years ago, and it drove me nuts. eventually i figured out that it was my works router. after we changed the router, my mysterious battery drain stopped. now what kind of battery do you get on mobile data only?

This is a day without Wi-Fi (juste few minutes at school and at home), most of the time, i was connected in LTE . Strange for Chrome.
there are issues there, but what fo yoj keep brightness at, your screen battery loss is relatively high, unless yoj kerp your brightness high. i keep mine from 0-10%, for every 30% i raise it, i lose one hour sot.

Hello everyone!
After switching from stock to Chroma to have more options, no resolution of my problems appears.
I have decided apply an agressive Doze mode with Doze Settings Editor, but no changes.. Seems that my device doesn't enter in Doze mode.
So, I have swtiched my WiFi network on my Nexus 6 from 5GHz to 2.4GHz and .. my device goes into Doze mode!
I can reduce my battery drains screen off by removing the wlan_rx_wake, but how?
Now, I need to know why my 5GHz WiFi is the cause of my problems! If anyone knows the answer ..
Thanks to everyone that have tried to help me
