Welcome to the incompetence of samsung, nobody will ever be able to solve this, since it's simply a camera firmware issue irrelevant to android version or firmware, today i came from service and they said the same ; they can't do anything about it since the bosses in korea-land are way too busy mass producing half-baked top notch products rather than caring for their customers
lgcamera won't solve it either since the brightness levels get stuck sadly and waste the whole video
advice : if you really love filming with your phone, get a sony phone, they are experts in optics and are long-known for their superior cameras and methods

^ SGS Framework would have to be fully ported... which in this case, you might as well just get a vibrant/SGS based phone.

This has been asked and requested a hundred times. OP please search before you post redundant requests or information.
thanks to the two of you who actually replied. as far as this being a duplicate can you link the original post because i have looked through the apps section for nexus s and cant seem to find it
I hate to bring back burnt out threads, but this is really such a shame. I just got my NS4G yesterday and already really miss the Epic's camera app with touch-to-focus and pinch to zoom, really the 2 best features which take advantage of a great camera hardware. Focusing with the aosp camera app is no where near as pleasant or precise.
I mean, Sense ports are making there way over to the SNS, so maybe eventually we will get what we want with a sgs port?... i hope.
if anyone has any recommendations of camera apps(paid or free) which are decent with our hardware, holla at me
You can get Camera360 for touch-to-focus. As for pinch-to-zoom, I'd say it's totally unnecessary since it simply does a digital zoom. You might as well do that on your computer, or get an app that can do crop and resize, that's really what digital zooming does.
camera 360 is good but don't trust the dev
It has wierd permissions
It has access to "sensitive log data"
And prior to recent update is had access to your SMS messages but was removed becasue of complaints
Use the Miui camera app its does touch to focus and I dont know about the zoom as it doesnt work on my NS since it doesnt have zoom, and I dont have the 4g so I cant test it, but its a much better camera app

Where can we get it from?? Does it work on AOSP ROMs?
The SGS camera uses twframeworks so it will not outright work on aosp roms but I agree the SGS camera is nice. I am coming from the vibrant to nexus s and thats the one thing I miss about the vibrant is the camera app.

u can try the free app
I have tried it, its not real autofocus, it uses the accelerometer to detect motion and when in stationary after motion, it will automatically focus. But if you only make slight soft movement, it will not register the movement and will not refocus.
Real autofocus keeps the focus point constantly focused even in video mode. But the app only focus once when you press the record button for video then it will not refocus anymore during recording, same as stock.

Try the pro version , and try manual focus and touch the screen and then record (u only can record with focus, rigt in front of object or something written, or normal camera like stok one) the idea is if u have to film something that neeg focus this is great

You only can focus close to an object or further, go to settrings in app and select auto focus, if camera focus an close object u can onli record like that
for me it does not work with the LgCamera Pro or the latest Kang Cm ... why?
Τhe only differences between the free and the paid version are those:
Free version limitations:
-sometimes program shows BUYME dialog.

The only thing that I am regretting migrating to JB 4.1.2 on my SGSA is that the camera app no longer includes the "action shot panorama" photo style.
This was brilliant to use with my kids, so you could press once and let the camera take several photos, and stitch them together whilst at the same time focusing on an active subject.
I've trawled through the Play store to find an alternative (I'd happily pay!) but haven't found anything like it.
(If I was able to add a link to show you an example, it would include the dropboxDOTcom server over https followed by /s/23ynpqie9y2gjm0/2013-03-23%2014.44.03.jpg?v=0swn-
Has anyone found a replacement?
Cheers!
Matt

I even mailed some of the android camera app developers to see if they could add it to the list of things to do. It was a great little feature, and "it just worked"!
It's not the end of the world, but I would prefer to have it back!
(Congratulations on your 900th post )
Matt
Yeah... Although the stock 4.2 camera app has Photosphere - even that doesn't work on our phone... These two features are the things I'm missing the most .
But there are couple of good camera apps in Google Play.. Just search "panoramic camera" and you will get a bunch of results there... I haven't tried any - but most of them have many good reviews..
We can wait for Samsung's next update for our phone.... Since I think its included in Samsung's latest JB firmwares...

I've tried most of those panorama free adopts on the play store but they only do the nice landscape-type panoramas, not the cool action one.
Would it be possible to create a custom ROM with the gingerbread camera app in it instead of the jb one?

try "twin" apps
I am a developer of this feature (worked at Samsung at some point), and I can say it it is not easy to do
The most similar apps I saw are "Twin Me! Camera", or "Easy Twin Camera (Clone me)". Albeit they allow you only two copies and lack object tracking capabilities. But maybe someone will come up with this as well.

It was a truly awesome feature, you should be really proud of being part of that one. Just really odd that it was dropped completely when the cameras were perfectly capable of doing it. And doubly so that it can't just be ported straight across from GB.
I don't think it was particularly well named in the camera app, so I doubt too many people realised what it actually did.
I still think about dropping back to GB to get that functionality back!
Matt
Please do something about this get this app or option back in phones, point and shots, high end camaras, 360 camaras, all camaras. Do what you can , you helped make this, and it worked Awsome! I'm with the iniatial post , I am looking for this app . Try looking up devices with it , you cannot, it doesn't have a name other then it's named function. So frustrated . I would purchase a product simply because of this " mode" . ( I don't want to purchase a old camara phone model just to have it.. But I might!) thank you cheers . Great "mode"
Can someone with the phone see if Manual Camera is compatible? You just need to install the compatibility app to find out found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test&hl=en
According to this unboxing video it's not compatible

Yea, that's pretty unfortunate, though someone who has unboxed it on youtube replied to my inquiry about manual focus. He says the moto camera does in fact come with a manual focusing slider option so that made me worry less about being able to take good macros. With my s4 it is often physically impossible to get a good focus up close, like i can see it actually pass up the focus and settle on something completely blurry.

I can't find a focus slider. It does have an exposure slider option that lets you touch where you want to focus too.

I'm upset that Manual Camera isn't supported when it was on my Nexus and Galaxy S6. Hopefully a custom ROM launches soon.
I myself am waiting on a custom rom with the camera2api baked in. It's one of the most advanced sensors Sony has ever produced, and for some idiotic reason Motorola removed all the features it's capable of doing.
I tried lots of ports and different verions, even those that were made explicitly for the Note 9, but i can't seem to be able to take photos with any of them.
It "takes" photos, but all of them just result in a black image, top to bottom.
It doesn't happen with one version in particular, it's consistent on all of them.
The viewfinder works just fine, so do most modes, even HDR+. But it can't take photos at all.
@Myrmeko
Not sure if this camera app has the functions you would like to use, but have you tried the Open Camera app?

I use Open Camera on a Note8 and Galaxy Tab S4 because the Samsung Camera app continuously crashed.
Try this, working for almost all Exynos devices. https://koopahtmaniac.com/getLatest.php

Yes, Open Camera is very good, but it doesn't have the features i was looking for.
On my Note 9, Samsung Camera works just fine, but i was only curious to see how Google's Night Mode and HDR+ work.

The latest one works just fine, but the photos look pretty bad. Night mode gives that pink vignette that was the problem on the HTC One M7/M8/M9.
I wouldn't recommend using it, tbh. You're better off using the stock camera. Or if you really wanna mod it and you aslo have root, just buy Zero Camera Mod and support one of the developers here. You can tune every Samsung Camera parameter with it.
