Root will probably be with u even if you flash a new rom.
If not it means that your root is not compatible with the rom and u might have to change it

how do you backup imei as havnt discovered efs partition on sgm

You can Store the file in your sdcard.
Sent from GALAXY mini...Please Thank Me when you think I deserve it

To be rooted there must be superuser.apk inside new rom, because by installing new boot.img and clearing data the whole internal memory will be overwritten.

HI, guys i had perfectly fine working note but some how wanted to flash abysskernel to overclock downloaded and flashed it on ICS stock rom....and crap now m stuck at boot of my galaxy note .....stuck at boot animation of custom logo not going further. i downloaded costom logo abysskernel and flashed it through cw mod.

abyss kernel cannot use with ics since it is a gingerbread kernel. a ics is required to have a ics kernel for it to work. what can you do is if you have a nandroid backup, just restore it using the abyss or if you are running a stock ics, just find a compatible ver of cfroot ics kernel and flash it via abyss.

First of all, if anything goes wrong, this is your safest way to not cause any additional harm to your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18981227&postcount=4
But since your backup is not working, you don't want to employ this method right now.
So you just follow the advice of janice1234 and find a compatible (with your ICS version) cf-root kernel (v5.6!) here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26746339&postcount=7, copy it to your external sd via anything that lets you access it (e.g. adapter or another phone) and flash the kernel with abyss.
While you're in the dev section you could do some more reading, for example all the information chainfire provides in his cf-root kernel thread...

hi got all u told me just one more thing how to flash wia abyss.....dont know how to ...i know how to flash via cw recovery touch i have it but from theer cf root have .tar file and it cannot be flashed through cw recovery so how to flash cf root from recovery. thas all i need to know.
thanx
You need to download a rom that can be flashed through cwm / abyss red. Try criskelo v7 ics. Download to your pc, copy it to your SD card using SD card reader) then reboot into recovery and flash it. If you have stock ics, I would do the 3 wipes first before flashing the new rom. Make sure you are doing all of this from abyss 4.2 cwm and not ics cwm.

Usually people run into this problem the other way around.
Anyway, once you have downloaded the .zip file there is no need to unzip it, since the .zip is exactly what you need to flash in CWM as it can't handle the bare .tar.

Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.1.2 issue - SD card not getting mounted - and solution

After upgrading my phone to CM 10 and installing ROM Manager 5.0.2.1 (which
includes Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.1.2), I had a problem in that nothing could be
installed because the SD card was not being mounted.
There was no way of downgrading Clockworkmod Recovery because nothing would
get installed.
After numerous methods, I solved this by paying for the premium version of ROM Manager.
Once that was done, I got the option of reverting back to an earlier version of Clockworkmod Recovery from
within ROM Manager. I chose (arbitrarily) version 5.0.0.0 and now the problem has gone away.

Weird, I did the same with the free version, downgraded to 5.2.something (that I had working before) and its working correctly.
In summary: DO NOT INSTALL THE v6, usb mounting does not work... yet
CWM 6 working ok for me.I can install roms etc , but I can't mount SD to use on PC
But if you're making a backup on CWM6 and you want to restore on CWM5 it won't work. The backups in CWM6 are a lot smaller and diferent from previous vers

Actually, you can change the way that CWM recovery backs up your system so in fact maybe by changing the back up method, you can restore CWM6 back ups on CWM5. This includes difference compression methods, file type, etc
Just FYI, you don't have to buy Rom Manager Premium to downgrade your recovery image. The 'free' way would be to inject it into a kdz file and extract AP and CP binaries then flash with SFT.

[Q] Installing CWM on galaxy mini 2.3.4

Hi all!
I'm going to flash CWM recovery on Samsung galaxy mini (stock 2.3.4) and I'd like to ask a couple of questions.
I'm going to follow this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529863
Is it okay?
1. Do I have to root the device before flashing CWM with odin? Phone isn't rooted now, it's completely stock.
2. Can I install ANY custom rom with CWM? eg. CM9 or 10?
3. I want to make sure that if i want to install a custom rom, first I flash CWM with odin, then custom rom with CWM. Do i have to do something else?
I'm asking these questions because I don't want to brick my phone on my first time flashing something.. I want to be sure.

Better to root the phone before installing clockwork mod
once clockwork mod is install u can install any custom rom just u need to download that rom put it sd card and follow the tutorial given below each rom (most of them have Same tutorial)
u need to flash through odin only once just to root or else when u phone gets bricked

Okay, thanks very much for your help!
if you want to be on stock then root first before flashing CWM as after flashing CWM you may not be able to root your phone.
If you want to flash custom rom then there's no need to root your phone.
Just boot into cwm wipe data
flash rom
again wipe data and then reboot
remember that wiping data is needed before and after the flashing process.
Ok, I'm going to flash CWM tomorrow
Thanks for help!
E: Succesfully installed CWM on my SGM!!
Enjoy and play more with your rom

Literally just flash it in recovery as you would anything else.
And I'm 99.99% sure you can also just flash rocket ROM in that version of twrp if you are taking about the JB version of alliance.
Just make sure to follow the same wiping procedures
But if you're worried about the emmc brick bug then simply flash philz in twrp and reboot into recovery then do the proper wipes and then flash rocket Rom
Let me know if u need more help.

thanks androidslave, twrp froze the first time i tried flashing cwm , so i kinda got scared. but its all good now
i've got another question
ive been using this phone for almost 2 years now and because of the brickbug workaround the internal sd card hasnt been formatted since gingerbread. so how do i remove all the unwanted stuff from previous roms and apps that must have clogged up??
So long as you're on a truly safe kernel, then you can do it on the phone.
Personally however I wouldnt and never have. I use root explorer and manually delete things I no longer nerd (you can use es file explorer as a safe alternative)
