[Q] .434 update and mediaserver - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted with locked bootloader XZ.
1) Is the only way to update to .434 through Flashtool?
If yes, can someone link it to me? I'm slightly confused about the differences between the original sony flashtool, flashtool and pc companion?
Will flashing it through flashtool wipe the data and the root? If yes, can i still use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186368
to root my phone again while letting the bootloader remain locked?
2) I see that the mediaserver process is draining a lot of battery even when the phone is in standby and not being used..auto sync is disabled too. Are there any definite ways to fix this? I've did some searching and found out that you may be able to fix it by removing all the photos and videos as one of them may be broken hence draining the battery, but this is a little too 'meh' for a fix. Help?

Pc companion and sony update service are somehow the same.you can use it to repair your phone and revert to unmodified stock rom.they are for locked bootloader.
Emma is for unlocked bootloader.
Flashtool is for locked and unlocked bootloader with many options.
With flashtool you can unlock and relock the bootloader, you can flash any ftf(stock firmware) files, you can also excludes for example the kernel or not to wipe data.....
Yes you can root again after repairing or flashing ftf files.
Mediaserver(camera, photos, videos,YouTube).let the phone settle if its new.
Sorry for my bad English

Hm so i can use
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202685
with flashtool? what options do i choose so that it flashes the new firmware but still letting everything else unchanged(no wipe)?

Yes you can, just untick wipe data.

aite one more question, i got the XZ like 3-4 weeks ago, and the mediaserver is draining battery. Will it start draining less as time goes?
is this a common problem for android devices?

If you have corrupted media files could be the culprit.
Or if you have an app that upload media files in the background.
Sent from my C6602 using xda premium

Any ways to spot the corrupted media files? Pretty sure its from the album app..music doesn't seem to drain it at all
it only starts draining once i open album

anyonee?

Mediaserver is running as long as I'm listening to music. The moment I stop the player (tried with both walkman and poweramp) the moment it stops eating my battery. I tried leaving only 1 album with flac files (deleted all photos and movies as well) and the result was exactly the same. For 6-10 hours music playback (depending on my shift ) that process is responsible for more than half of my battery drain. I'll post some screenshots later. You can stop the indexing of media files ( with .nomedia file placed in the main folder) but that doesn't help. I've tried other things which were supposed to stop that drain, but nothing seems to work.

as for mine it's the album though, listening to music doesn't seem to drain it one bit
everytime when i access the album(indirectly or not, such as taking screenshots and sending through whatsapp) the battery starts draining like nobody's business..

so..i've tried removing every single file from the DCIM folder, and mediaserver stopped draining as much battery(android OS started draining battery instead) and after a few days now..mediaserver starts acting again..

[SOLVED] Xperia Z restarts after unplugging charger

Hi,
I bought Xperia Z a week ago and there was update available, I tried to update it, but the phone stuck in boot loop, I solved this via Sony Update Service. So there is new and actual software. It works fine, until the first charge, the charging was ok, but after unplugging I tried to resolve lock gesture, but it stuck and restarts, the restart repeat several times. And after every charging, there are frome three to five restarts and then the phone is available to using.
Unfortunately, the Backup and restore app is not working, it stuck at 8% and then the phone restarts. So I decided to use SUS again, but it doesn't helped. The restarts are still there, no matter if original or non-original charger, so there is no connection to used/downloaded apps.
Is there any help to this issue?
I don't rooted the phone, but the phone is bought as used from credible store.
Thanx for answers
FW: 10.1.1.A.1.253
I'd suggest to restore the phone to factory default and return it to the store. It could be a hardware issue, that the phone receives a to high voltage when removing it from the charger.

for several times after restart?
bump
when I charge the phone to 80%, not full, and then unplug, the phone doesn't restart
Something defiantly seems off. It should not restart. Loke other suggestion it try a factory reset, if that doesn't work u might need to contact Sony for exchange or repair.

try option 2 if option 1 fails
option 1: Repair through Sony Update Service followed by a Factory Reset under settings > backup & resets. (Internal Wipe)
option 2: Flash another FTF file
but then again, it seems like a hardware issue. Suggest you get an exchange if its still under warranty or whatever.

1 - how to repare through SUS? when I connect phone to SUS it show me only the option to re-update phone and it delete all files, so after that is wipe necessary too?
2 - where to get FTF file?

if you bought the phone just a week ago, then why dont you ask your phone-company to resolve the issue. Phone-company is your retailer and from where you purchased the phone.
Why to take risks at your side....

op 1- when it says that your phone is up to date there should but a blue line of words saying something repair your phone if you are having issues, just click on that.
op 2- android development section and some in the general section too.
like i said if you seriously dont want to go through all that hassle just take it back to the shop and ask for a new one and show them that youre pissed off and demand for an exchange or something. Show them how it restarts lol.

thanx for answers guys
LitoNi - so the op1 helped, the problem was in micro SD card, after repair the SD card is dead, but the phone is working well, no restart since the repair (three days), even the connection between phone and linux (MTP) is ok and I can move with files...thanx

Xperia TX bricked (only showing sony logo then a triangle with an exclamation mark)

Please help me guys, I have no one else to turn to. My parents are gonna kill me if they find out what I did to my phone.
So my phone accidentally fell at school with the bluetooth still on.So I put the battery pack, power it on, but then it started to go on a boot loop i.e.
Sony logo-->Xperia Logo-->color animation-->black screen. But after 3-4 hours, it managed to do a complete boot! But I noticed that the bluetooth wasnt turning on. So stupid me, I restarted the device, then it started to go on a boot loop again. I got home and I tried it a couple of times more with the power and volume rocker combinations... didnt work either.
I even started using pc companion. didnt work (kept on doing the same thing
SUS --> same thing
NOW: I tried it using a different computer so I went to an internet shop and downloaded pcc and sus. I started pc companion... but halfway through the download... MY PHONE RAN OUT OF BATTERY and didnt finish the update. :'( Now, whenever I'm booting the phone, I only get the Sony logo and A TRIANGLE WITH AN EXCLAMATION MARK AND A PHONE UNDERNEATH.....
PLEASE HELP ME! My Phone is a Sony Xperia TX Lt29
Last Version before the crash: JB 4.1.2

please... please. i dont know what to do. thank you in advance to anyone who can help me
calm down.
Charge the phone until it is fully charged.
Download PCCompanion and do a fresh install of it.
Run PCCompanion and choose software update.
Use the option to repair your phone, then follow the instructions.
Let us know how you get on
PS
This will only do a software repair, if something broke because you dropped it (Which it sounds like) you are going to have to come clean and tell your parents to get it fixed.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY!!! really thank you :'(
I already did something with the phone because I've been doing a lot of searching on the net lately...
I reinstalled the software using Sony Update Service (SUS) and it booted normally! (but sadly it was only during the FIRST BOOT UP) when I turned off the phone to re insert the sim card and micro sd, It started doing it again... but then, after 6 or 7 tries, it managed to skip past the sony logo-->xperia--> logo-->color animation? and do another complete boot
Now I decided to go to settings and do a complete factory reset cause I thought it would fix everything... but it didn't. It started doing the same thing, and I had to give it 10 or 12 tries before eventually booting up again. When it booted up normally, I was even able to play music with it and change the settings like brightness, volumes, equalizers, and even arrange widgets!
SITUATION NOW:I turn on the Wi-fi and it's in a boot loop again and I'm charging the phone up to 100%
(i did the vol.up vol down power combination before charging)
gregbradley, is it because of our slow internet connection??? (it took me like 4 nerve racking hours to finish the update) but sus was able to complete the download and install the software... what the f*ck is wrong with my phone (((( ohgod
AND:
I'll follow your instructions when the charge is complete...... and I'll be back to you with the results.God I hope this works.Thank you again.
Have you tried only partially flashing part of an ftf file. I know when my phone was on the brink of death I discovered that if I only flashed part of an ftf using flashtool that it would work. I think I would check everything that has exclude (ie: Exclude System) and it would work for me. Its not the end of the world though as the phone does work. Just a bootloop. If you can get it into flash mode then just exclude everything except System, Kernel, and baseband if I'm not mistaken.

Thank you for the reply man '^^
um... to tell you the truth, I have no idea how to partially flash a tft file, let alone flashing. O_O (see how noob i am?) its saddening. So am I in the point right now where my phone's problem is unsolvable via pc companion or sony update service??? Plus I've been doing some searching here on xda and I saw this thread about xperia TX users updating to version b 167 and that their bootloaders are now locked.
This is what my phone is exactly doing whenever I try to boot it up:
Sony Logo---->Xperia Logo----> Color waves animation?---> FREEZE-->black screen then the Sony Logo again.
Whenever I try to boot up for the 2nd time this happens:
Sony Logo----> Black Screen---> Phone turns off---> Sony Logo again
(((
You have flashtool yes? If you load up like you're going to flash a ftf file. Once you click to load up the ftf file it'll pull a menu where you pick what you want to flash. On the right side of flashtool that's where the exclude part is. That's where you have to check the *exclude option. The same thing happened to me when I accidentally flashed a T cm10 rom on my phone. I had to partially flash a ftf file to get it to boot. It should work but since you're not familiar with flashtool its going to make it a bit harder for you in the end. :/

just let it plug in with the charger and keep your phone on for day, usually that will fix it after a few hours with that logo running
Use a battery charger, charge for at least half the entire batt and then follow the thread on flashing, download some files while charging to minimize downtime

Hey guys...... ))))
First and foremost, thank you for all your replies.. really helped me a lot (
It's okay now guys! '^^ I re installed the software via Sony Update Service and it worked. At first I thought the phone was a goner cause it didn't manage to do a complete boot right after the installation. (Phone was stuck on the Sony Logo) But then the next morning, I tried it again and it worked!!
BUT: What I fear now is that the phone might suddenly crash again if I turn on the WI-FI (just like what happened in my previous attempts) If the phone crashes, I fear that the phone would start going on a boot loop again. So basically, I'm just using the phone for media purposes only i.e. Walkman, Gallery,Camera, Movies.
Any thoughts on this, cool, awesome people of xda? '^^ (cant update my apps and google now f*ck)
just.. sad. I miss Flipboard,Modern Combat 4, My Daddy Was a Thief, Real Racing 3, DEAD SPACE (((
one question...
Did something broke inside my phone when it fell?? If yes... WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?? why is it behaving this way??? Why does it keep on boot looping??? should I go and let an expert open it????

Battery Drain due to Media Server

Hello i have found some guides that explain how to deal with this but i could not solve the problem
1st) I cant find 0byte files on my internal sd
2nd) there is no way that i factory reset the phone
3rd) the app that used to work like magic on 4.3 now wont work (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascannerroot)
4th) An app that i found in a post caused some problems (like phone locking up and having to reset the phone so i can unlock it)
I attached some photos of my battery drain so you can get an image of the problem
(it may not seem as a drain but when i used the "Rescan Media ROOT" app on 4.1.2 i used to get a MUCH greater battery life.
My phones status
UBT
Rooted
Running on 4.4.2 Aopk Rom
Doomkernel v04
Thank you and i am sorry for my endless questions i try to contribute to the forum as much as i can.

All day long.I use poweramp but i think the principal is the same.
Also i found out that the total wipe of my internal SD i did earlier did not help at all.
But using BetterBatteryStats i found that:
AudioMix has been running for 2 hours and 3 minutes in total. (partial wakelock)
PowerManagerService.Wakelocks has been running for 2 hours total (kernel wakelock)
Whats all this stuff ?Are these 2 system related ? and last but not least can i stop them from running ?
Well playing music drains the battery pretty quick. This is also due to mediaservice.. We cant do a thing about it.

Turn off all syncing activities and also use odexed roms because the deodexed roms have this issues usually, random battery drain amd such. Kernel might also be the problem so you can try that.

[Q] Z1 auto reboot

I'm on Sony stock rom non rooted.
Sometimes when using WhatsApp, WeChat, I'll be typing a message to someone and suddenly the phone will freeze for a good 5-10 seconds before restarting itself. Whenever a crash like this happens, it will automatically restart. Same with using any random app, sometimes even viewing Album or using the camera.
It will automatically restart even when idling. I tried update to the Official 14.4.A.0.108 Firmware but the problem still exists. Is this clearly software or phone issue? Please help.
Seems like an issue with the phone itself as everything is stock. How long have you been using it before noticing the problems?
I had this kind of issue when I used custom, overclocked kennel, but if you're running stock rom then just give it back to warranty.

Do a battery test
Try to flash stock rom by flashtool, then go to service center if it's still get rebooting.

[Q] Random Reboots?

My Xperia randomly reboots itself, I've had this issue for quite a while. I can't solve the issue by applying a custom ROM because its a T-Mobile phone and I can't unlock the bootloader. I have rooted it and I have applied update 4.4.2. The issue mostly happens when the phone is on standby, but I have had it happen during a phone call once. The most it has rebooted itself is at <19% power, however the issue persists at any battery level.
It is kind of annoying, since it eats up battery life and the increased processing from constantly rebooting makes it warm.
Anybody have a solution or a remedy for this? Simulated battery pull stops the issue for a bit but doesn't solve the problem
