[Q] [XT860] Anyone succeed installing CM10.1? (Getting Bootloops) - Motorola Droid 3

I tried following the instructions from the CM website, but keep getting bootloops. Right after the Safestrap splash, it blanks the screen and starts over with the Motorola logo.
I'm using:
Droid3 Safestrap 3.05
ROM Slot 1
cm-10.1-20130406-NIGHTLY-solana.zip (and also tried 20130312)
JB-XT860_FIX.zip
gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
I flash the three zips all in one action.
Does anyone have an XT860 running CM10.1, and if so, did you do something different? Thanks!

Same problem here.

Searching
I've run additional searches since posting... I only find others who reported the same problem with no subsequent replies. I guess I should reword subject: Is anyone successfully running this ROM on an XT860?

Good concept; I hadn't tried it that way before... unforunately, it still bootloops, now that I've tried it. I also tried without the Gapps, and it does the same bootloop. Was there anything else you did with your install to make it work?

In HashCode's CM10.1 thread, he links to a post about enabling GSM. That post has the XT860 patch I used.

I am having this exact problem with my XT860. I've tried installing CM10.1 and AOKP with no luck. Minimoto works just fine though...

I've since also tried AOKP and also an AOKP-based PACMAN ROM for the Droid 3... nothing JellyBean working, basically. I haven't tried any ICS stuff yet... that may be next.

Similar problem with mine. But had some success.
HashCode's older JB 4.1.2 works for the XT860 with the patch: KEXEC-cm-10-20121215-UNOFFICIAL-solana.zip
On his more recent builds, not much luck. But here is what happened. I wiped, installed without patch, let it boot loop about 20 times, then it finally booted into CM10.1. It works, but I do not get GSM signal. Restarted, still bootloops. So, not stable at all.
I have no idea why letting it run through multiple boot loops eventually boots into the system. Can't think of anything that would change in each boot.
Just running MiniMoto on my XT860 overclocked to 1.2Ghz and am happy with it. I don't need anything on JB, and the camera works, lol.
Hopefully that helps a bit.
If you really want to, you can buy a XT862 off ebay for about $150 now and then just sell your XT860.

And get different bugs.
The CM10.1 nightly boot on my XT862, GSM data works again now after a recent spate of not working. However no 10.1 build has allowed me to receive phone calls. The phone app crashes on incoming calls.
Data works, outgoing calls work, incoming CRASH.

Gingerbread...

Installed the AOSP based Rom to my phone. Working fine.
Flashed GAPPS (tried 3 different versions with and without the new market). And it just loops as soon as it gets to the Touch the "Android to begin" screen.
Anyone know whats wrong? :/ Slightly irritating.
That's why they said Google apps don't work with it. It said it would only cause boot loops. You will probably have to restore your backup and start again.
If it's even more messed up. You still always have fastboot support because you unlocked the bootloader to root in the first place, so don't panic, you can always fix it.

ICS Rom CM9 (Noob Question)

I wanted to ask this in the developers thread, but they said I needed 5 posts before I can post in the development sections. I downloaded the 12.18 ICS CM 9 rom, and I think its great. My question is where is android market, or how do I put apps on this thing?

It's downloadable via a seperate package called gapps (google apps). You can get it on the CM ( http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ ) site. You want the ics version of course. They may be running a specific gapps release (from the cm site), you'd have to search at least the last few pages of the thread.
There's also a.link on hashcodes site.

Thanks, ill look into it as soon as I get home from work...
A side note: For the alpha, I'm bundling GApps with the ROM. I know this is not common policy, however it will solve some issues with upgrading from build to build and I can keep GTalk out for the time being (it crashes continuously due to camera access).
I ran into that problem myself, forgot about loading the gapps i flashed back to liberty, I will try it again later tonight.
So do I just install the ics zip, and then go back into recovery and install the gapps zip?
Flash ICS and then the apps and do a wipe of data and cache.

Got it to work only thing I am hating is the camera not working. I tried using camera zoom fx but that didn't work either but I think its because its not compatible with ICS yet? But other then that I am loving it, it runs like butter.

[XT860] - Updated Modified XT860 Patches

Thakns leobg for your post here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26043367&postcount=1575
I went ahead and created some updated XT860 patches, you can apply them from CWM.
I have tested the AOKP one, not the CM9 one, so please let me know if it is working.
These have been updated to match the nightly build.props from 05/14/2012.
Weird, Ijust use the ics xt860 patch on hashcodes site. Works great here even with the nightlies.

Yup, but that version is a few months old and a lot of the settings in the build.prop file are old, as well these patches setup for Canada.

There are a lot of differences, in the CM9 one there are a lot of CM9 specific features that AOKP doesn't need, and vice versa.
dani: Thanks for these. Which rom of the 2 did you choose? I installed AOKP 05-15 nightly and came across a weird APN issue. It's in the AOKP thread, post 494 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26196280&postcount=494 )
Have you experienced the same issue? The simple solution for me was to modify the apns-conf.xml to only indicate the 1 good Rogers APN set, and re-install AOKP. I'm not sure if this happens for anyone else though... I was going to ask that you include the updated apns-conf.xml as part of the patch, but who knows... could have been a freak incident on just my phone.
Thanks again!

I just used the included APNs, and removed ALL of them except for the one you pointed out. Then I edited the authentication of that APN and set it to "none" (it is set by default to "not set") and everything worked.
I don't wipe whenever I change my ROM, that's too much work, esp when you're on nightlies.
Interesting... I may just do another install with your auth field trick and see if that works for me. Thanks man
I'm crazy about wiping when switching roms, but I haven't ever used nightlies before. I will try a non-wipe on my next nightly install for sure.
Thanks again

Setting auth to None got me working just fine... thanks! I am now on cm9 and it is working much better than aokp for me. Lots of free ram on cm9!
Is there a signal bar fix available? I seem to only get 2 signal bars max (even though I have great reception... so not a huge deal). I remember a build.prop tweak where you change verizonglobal to 0 but I see that it is already set.

Anyone tried the CM10 M2 Experimental Build yet?

They posted the new M-series build yesterday. I tried to install it a couple of times, but the install failed using the latest TWRP. Maybe i'll try with ROM Manager and see what happens.
I installed it yesterday afternoon. Still testing it out, but it seems to be working so far.

I actually used the built in CM10 updater. My recovery is TWRP. I didn't even wipe the phone. I did install the new gapps file first as they got released almost simultaneously and then flashed the experimental file.

I think it might be the version of TWRP that I am using. I updated to the most recent 2.4.3 yesterday. I know that sometimes the older versions give less errors. Anyone who used TWRP care to tell me which version they are on?
I tried again using the CMupdater, but no good. Just gives me a bunch of errors.
Anyway. Maybe i'll flash CWM and see if it will work with that.

Well...in the official TWRP forum thread, they said for us T-Mo Note users to use the i717 AT&T, so that's what I installed. Maybe i'll try rolling back to an older version if that's possible.
Just Google "twrp sgh-t879" and the first result is the official page for this device
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/113
The top of the page says 2.4, but the links are for 2.3. Anyway, that is where I installed from.
When you search on TWRP site just type it "Sgh T879" and it should pop up
I do have one more question if anyone is still around.
There are new nightlies on Cyanogen's site (since the M2 release). Do those nightlies consist of everything included in the 4.2.2 M2 release, or are they just a continuation of the 4.2.1 nightlies?

Yes. They consist of everything in M2 plus continued new fixes/features and breakage depending upon what the devs are up to.
Yeah, it looks like the version of TWRP that I was using was the culprit. I rolled back to the one in the above post. and was able to flash the newest nightly.
Thanks for the help guys.
Three issues that seem to be recurring in the nightlies is whenever I put handcent in landscape, I can see another display behind the intended display. The other issue is that Bluetooth sometimes wants to turn itself off. The third issue is that a car dock icon shows up when I dock my phone in the car but no actual car dock software launches.

I have experienced the bluetooth issue, but not the others.
I switched back to the stock ROM anyway because CM10 wouldn't let me make calls properly.
Do you have an i717 or a t879? I haven't had issues with calling even with the loss of wifi calling.

As someone who has owned the Bionic since launch, and just jumped to CM 10.1 a few days ago, I'll chime in here. It's a much better phone since CM 10.1. That said, be prepared for issues initially. I had a lot of problems and was ready to give up - until I did a factory reset on the CM 10.1 ROM. If you decide to make the switch, you can root, install SafeStrap, and flash CM 10.1 and Gapps with confidence, as long as don't mind doing a factory reset and rebuilding everything. Since the phone is new to you, that shouldn't be much of a deterrent.
I personally would recommend making the plunge.

Yep, camera works fine. Check out the last page or two of the post related to the ROM you intend to flash to see what kind of issues people are working. From the Official CM 10.1 ROM:
WHAT'S NOT WORKING (NOTE: I expect to be able to fix all of these issues, it's just taking some time):
Gallery / Media FC see top of the post for FIX.
HDMI
Dock/Dock Settings
Some random reboots being looked at.

What did you mean when you said you had to reset on the CM ROM? Does the ROM still stay on the phone after the reset? Also, what did you have to do to rebuild everything?
I have another post asking for advice on rooting and ROMs. If you could help me out too, that would be great. I am interested in CM.

After installing the CM 10.1 20130326 NIGHTLY for the first time on a newly rooted Bionic, the phone was extremely unstable. A factory reset made all that go away. I elected to download all my apps again for a fresh start. Right now, it's working well.
