Hi all. I'm thinking in buying the Xperia Z. What will I miss coming from the Galaxy S3? Anyone made that kind of "update"???
Imho if I had a s3 I wouldn't change to the Z. Not because it's not better but the actual increase of performance is not worth it. If I were you I'll wait until the next flagship.

Worthwhile considering your reasons for leaving.
The biggest thing for me is that the S3 feels cheap and nasty (I still have one - it's my work phone)
The XZ feels premium. 'Feel' counts for a lot, to me

Coming from note 2 i will initially missed the wow and colour pop effect from the Samsung, however that feeling quicjly changed to sheer appreciation of a more natural, and extremely sharp display of the xperia z, that is so much more peasant for long time viewing.
I miss the bigger battery,
Things I don't miss
Longer charging times,
Ugly Touchwizz design,
Cheap feel,
Everywhere I looked people owned it,
now when on public transport heads turn at the "Rectangular black all glass, Sony logo devil beast" that guy is holding
Things I miss -
The contrast and viewing angles of the screen
The hardware buttons that don't waste screen real estate
The rounded edges that don't poke holes in your pockets
Things I don't miss -
The plastic
The lack of a dedicated recent apps button

Exactly, I think this is the best looking android device right now (HTC One looks good too, but I hate Sense)... and XZ has almost a stock android look.
I've a doubt about the charger port on the phone... I've heard on other forums that it is rectangular and not like the standard one that comes with 99% of all android devices, is that true?
I have a s3 and now the z what I miss is on the s3. My extended battery that's about it
The Z display and color is so much more natural and easy on the eyes.
The S3 has the wow pop colors on their display.
The build quality on the Z is so much better than the plastic S3.
I came form Note 2, but my wife has still has my old s3.
I agree with some of the above and definitely do not regret moving to XZ from Sammy and I've had galaxy's since the s1, the xz is a better phone in terms of features and build quality. I'm not even sure I'll get an S4 given how much i like the XZ
S3 +
has more vibrant/ brighter colours - but can also be a bit blue or yelllow due to manufacturing differences
Removeable battery
hardware buttons( you definitely miss them at first)
XZ+
Camera is noticeably better than the s3 ( my main like)
software buttons - I use button saviour so I can swipe from side to have buttons appear and get a fuller screen xperience
Screen is a bit sharper/more natural colours
I find the Battery is way better than s3 with comparable use
I miss from my S3:
Battery - I find s3 outlasted z by a short margin especially screen on time
Screen - Z screen is a little washed out but is much brighter and more readable in Sun than the s3
Great camera - S3 camera is better and has a much better flash
Bright Led flash - I use the phone as a torch a lot, S3 flash is twice as bright as Z
Smoothness - S3 is faster than z, or should I say smoother, a lot smoother
Feel - S3 feels nicer and strangely less plasticity than Z, Z feels like it's light and plastic and the screen kind of bends
Good speaker - S3 speaker is a lot clearer and louder
Music - S3 sound volume us much better
I guess that sounds like I should go back to S3 but the Z is new, is waterproof, survives more harsh treatment than the S3 and has a better keyboard and nicer software than the S3.
Ok maybe I'm missing the S3 a bit lol. But seriously the Z isn't enough of an upgrade in my book.
First ill say i love Z... had S2 + S3
miss from my S3 the battery... for sure the screen on battery outperformed the Z but on stand/sleep mode Z outperforms S3... at the end of the day S3 wins.
Screen colors of S3 where more vibrant but at outdoors/sun (especially if you wear sunglasses) Z outperforms S3 by far!!!
Screen of Z is more color correct and for sure i wont be missing that blue tint in the whites of S3...
Design & Quality wise Z is by far better + waterproof!!!
Software wise S3 had a ton of customizations which Z doesn't have anything YET!!!
I don't think i will be missing anything actually!!! Happy to have the Z :victory:
Just replaced my gs3 with Xperia Z.
Things I miss.
Honestly nothing.

Hello , =) i`ve made this post to let everyone Share his/her The Best Experience He/she had With Xperia t/tx/v
so we are also making a small review
Please Post The most brilliant Thing you realy missed on other manufacturers =)
i`ll Start :
the most thing i realy missed is the Brilliant screen + sleek design <3
Odp: Xperia t/x/v? Share the best you got with Us =)
Not really on other manufacturers, I'd rather compare it overall with my previous phone which was Xperia PLAY and other phones. So I miss:
1. Stereo speakers - this was really very nice feature in Xperia PLAY. And the speakers were pretty loud and clear. Pure awesomeness and uniqueness ♥
2. Huge developement - X8 had just amazing developement support (doixanh's ROMS and many months of waiting for the bootloader to be cracked, this was exciting!). Now, even after three years of launch it still has one of the best support. And Xperia PLAY also starts to have great developement. I hope we will finally see the same thing for Xperia T.
3. More updates, more unique features - the updates are IMHO are too rare. We have many features on our phones (which Sony is known from as it gives one of the best experiences!) but I'm sure we can have more.
What I love:
1. Camera - fast, nice and very sensitive. But panorama mode turns off Exmor R technology and the pictures are sometimes very dark. And this sucks. Also stabilization is pretty bad. But every other thing connected with camera amazes me.
2. On-screen buttons - it's hella comfortable. In combination with turned off key vibration we can achieve totally soundless experience. I know this might be strange but I like when I don't hear I use my phone. No vibrations and no sound when I don't need it.
3. Design - who cares it's taken from Xperia Arc? It's brilliant, beautiful and really comfortable. Also the button placement is very original and for me, very comfortable.
4. Specs - dual core CPU is enough IMHO. The second core is not even being always in use! So we don't need any quad-core (or even octa-core if we think about rumours about future Samsung supersmartphones) monsters which consumes loads of energy. It's really funny when the manufacruters try to be ahead of others putting more power to the phones and forgots about the battery so the phone is dead after 3 hours of heavy usage xD
4. The screen and glass touchscreen - it's bright and nice. I removed factory-installed screen protector a month ago as it was acting like a dust magnet and I don't use ANY protector at all, only rubber case and my phone's screen doesn't have any scratch! Amazing! And we don't have any Gorilla Glass or other stuff. Just scratch proof and shatter proof glass? Nice.
5. Features - we have plenty of them - Extended Standby Mode, Exmor R lens, Bravia Engine - broken on unlocked BL which is sad..., etc. They are unique for Sony phones and it's very nice that they put so many interesting stuff in our phones.
No other things come to my head. I think that's all
Xperia T. It's just great.

I'm going to buy Xperia z in a few days - months, my question is: what have let you down in Xperia Z?
I already know about screen.
I kindly ask people which don't own this phone to not answer.
As I've seen many of the devs are going to buy or already have Xperia z, (im coming from Xperia Play and I've had great developers, most of them have moved to newer device, so I I'm going to do the same).
So to make it quick: what you don't like in your phone?

The phone is amazing I am happy with everything apart from the camera quality in low light situations, the camera is excellent in outdoor good light photos but poor in my opinion indoors. I would definitely recommend this phone hopefully a update might sort the camera out.
- the phone gets hot when you use it to much
- Screen on time is about 3.5-4.5h
- backside is glass
- the screen doesn't work when full of water
- It is big, sometimes doesn't reach the whole screen with the tumb without moving my hand position.
- camera doesn't always make good pictures.
But how hard you want to value which con is your opinion! IMHO i dislike the glass back... and i wish i had way better battery... but this are dreams.
Get it because it's an awesome phone. Ignore the claims that the screen isn't good. I mean, how retarded do you have to be to complain about the fact that the viewing angle is crap when you hold it at like 5 degree. The colours are way better than on Samsung Galaxy Phones.

I don't know, how many smartphones you had before, but I can assure you that it doesn't get hotter than the competition. Actually, a Galaxy S 2 gets hotter than the Xperia Z. And listing the glass-back as well as the size as a cons (or saying you dislike that) isn't really fair since those features were well known before you decided to buy it. And why would you like to use the screen under water?
In respect to the phone getting hot, I would say this is the same for most smartphones of this ilk. My Desire, Arc and XS, got very hot, but this is considered to be quite normal and nothing to worry about.
The XZ is a wonderful device. It's a noticeable upgrade from my XS and a fair bit bigger, but all in all no complaints.
The only negative points I can think of is that the camera ap starts up quite slow and that you can't change toggles in the notification bar by default.
Those are 2 things that should/could be solved really easy though.
Main things:
1) Camera app is sluggish, as already mentioned
2) Speaker on side - gets blocked by hand so you have to learn a new grip in order to not muffle your music/phone call
3) Power button on middle of right side - if you take a call when the phone's in a car dock doing satnav stuff, the phone (according to how it's set) can lock and turn the display off after the call so you have to try and press the button - which might mean taking the phone out of the dock while driving (or not!). I ended up installing an app that wakes up the phone when I wave near its proximity sensor.
noticed only this when shootin video in dark places and you turn on the light. the light is bad. miss has xperia t and light on her device is much more brighter. also in call volume isnt that great but im sure devs or sony will fix this up (lower volume because water proof cover). camera app is
indeed slow when u run it but i think its because its same app as it was on xperia x1 and didnt get much love
about camera learn basics bout takin pics and set camera to manual you will get great results
about speaker on side .. no problem for me cuz im left handed
about screen dont belive those reviews screen is really great and i mean great

I've went to the shop to check it out, most of these cons can be software-fixed.
But my biggest point in cons is
- speaker is crappy when playing music (no bass, I'm comming from xperia play which had 2 stereo speakers and they were great) not fixable
Viewing angles aren't that bad actually, it may be a little bit worse than top phones from other manufacturers but it's not that bad
I'd like to have an opinion from somebody about the battery...
Thanks to everyone for giving me some more advices for checking it out myself
The battery is amazing, playing game for 10 minutes, downloading apps and games from playstore, web browsing, and xda app.it last for 6 hours screen on time.could last for a day with 4 hours screen on.

Battery at Screen time is good, I can go up to 4 hours.
My only con is screen in bright sun

Odp: [Q] what are the cons of Xperia Z?
So by saying it lasts 6 hours with screen on this means that it will go from 100% to 0% after 6 hours screen on, right? Well that's not a huge step but it's not bad, thanks

I read some negative comments about the Z, so I won't buy that phone.
I 'm hoping that the ZL doesn't suffer from those problems.... Can anyone please give me some feedback about...:
- battery life
- camera quality
- screen quality
- speaker sound
Thanks guys!
So far the battery life with my Z is at least a full day, the camera quality is great (for a phone, mind you), the screen with auto brightness is amazing, and the speaker, well, it's better than the speaker on my HTC Sensation XE, but please note that the speaker in the SXE is HORRIBLE.
The speaker, in a weird place however, is just fine (again, for a phone, mind you). It goes really loud, but compared to the speaker on an iPhone, it's still lesser quality.
Some of the downsides of the Z that I've found so far is:
- It collects big amounts of dust on the rubberized edges
- It gets quite warm when playing games, but not too warm, the SXE when playing games, could burn your hand for example.
I've only had the phone for 2 days now, and thusfar I am very happy with it.
Hope this helps!
:good:
1. ZL is more brighter and better contrast than XZ..And no the values of calibration were set to 0 on ZL..i put up sony live wallpaper [purple] on both and ZL was visibly more brighter and vibrant!I Wonder what was sony thinking not giving its flagship that same screen? :/
2. Sound through headphones and speakers both were better on ZL..Dont know why? i can understand speakers bcoz of water proofing.
3. Easier to use due to small size and withe same size screen is a plus.
AW: ZL vs Z
Hey guys!
Thanks for your quick replies! I think I'm gonna test the ZL in a store when it's released in germany.
Getting a new phone sucks... Have to decide between Sony, Galaxy S4 and HTC one. All are good phones in my opinion, but none is perfect, each has its own advantages...
Hi
I'm currently using Samsung S3. So far I am happy with Samsung S3 for its fast processor, GPS starts fast etc.. Just that it's giving me eye strain perhaps due to prolonged use in the past, now I can hardly surf long in it. I'm thinking of Note 2 for its bigger screen (but I am fearful it will not resolve the eye strain).
Was wondering if Xperia Z would give me less eye strain.. Of course, I don't mind a nicer more solid external look Xperia Z has to offer but seems a big sacrifice of letting go of the following Samsung galaxy's benefits:
1. I am using Wanam lite rom which is excellent with its toggle buttons (allowing wifi, GPS, torchlight etc to be switched on/off easily) and making S3 sleeker. Was wondering if there is any great rom developed for Xperia Z to reduce battery consumption, increases performance and functionality.
2. Read GPS is slacking on Xperia Z. Is this true? I need my GPS to start fast when driving.
S3 GPS starts fast..
3. S3 screen seem scratch resistant relative to Xperia Z..
4. Long battery hour
5. S3 does not heat up like Xperia Z
That said, I am looking for a more solid built smartphone. I have a sony mp3 which I accidentally placed in washing machine along with soiled bedsheets - it survived fine. I was truly impressed...
Anyone who can provide me some feedback on my queries would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!
XZ might resolve your eyestrain problem, it uses different display, with full RBG matrix and it's 440+ ppi with 1080p resolution.
As for the rest of your questions:
1. There are custom roms for XZ already, take a look in Development section.
2. Haven't noticed and problems with GPS, it starts reasonably fast, certainly as fast as my old Note 2 - and Note 2 used the same chip/software as S3 so I'd say no problem here.
3. XZ screen is as scratch resistant as S3, or even more thanks to Dragontail glass. The "problem" is Sony put an anti-shatter film over the glass, and it's the film that get's scracthed, not the screen/glass. Some decide to remove the film, some choose to put a screen protector over it - both ways works fine for me.
4. Battery life is decent - it's not great, but it's not worse than S3's in that matter.
5. They actually heat up almost the same.
If you're after good design and build quality - XZ is a phone for you as long as you can overlook it's minor flaws ( yes, it does have flaws, like every single phone ). Also, Sony's stock firmware is brilliant, it's the first Android phone I haven't rooted and installed CM on it - because frankly, there's no need to do that at the moment.

I've gone from a S3 to a Sony Z. There are some small things that I am getting used to but mostly enjoying the change.
Battery has been unbelievable in standby mode. Last night it dropped 1% in 7 hours after disabling most of the bloatware. I haven't started stamina mode even!
Took some time to go from S3s strong contrast screen but now much enjoy the XZs softer more realistic display.
I bought a Zagg back and front protector actually for grip. I don't wanna put a shell on it but with the glass face and back being quite slippery I thought it as a good compromise plus more protection.

Hi all
Thanks for the helpful feedback. Today, I went to try out both Samsung Note II and Sony XperiaZ and Nexus4. Quite like Sony xperia, however it seems when viewing the same fast and furious trailer on all the phones, Sony Xperia Z fared particularly badly. Nexus 4 and Note II give sharp images but not Sony Xperia Z. I wonder why. It's HD youtube, this one which was tested on all three smartphones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7zl_t48CMc Sony Xperia Z supposed to give good display, why is it so bad in this instance?
Hi,
So ive tried all the websites like gsmarena etc but i wanted a view user opinions as well.
How is the camera? Is it better than HTC E8, HTC M7 and Samsung Galaxy S4?
Are there any phones better than this in the same price range?
Any issues i should know about?
Finally, should i buy this phone? Its more or less the max i can afford atm.
Any help would be appreciated thanks

it seems that you're looking at mid-high range phones.
imo, z1 screen isn't as good as its competitors, like you can notice the screen getting washed out with only a slight change in your viewing angle.
Camera is... so-so, video recording is amazing on the galaxy s5. Photos are decent I guess.
Build quality is amazing though and looks sexy. Also waterproof is a big bonus.
Software wise it's probably better than the S4, I hate Touchwiz before the S5 (laggy)
Battery life is quite average
Lol. Mid high range.

It is because display colors are calibrated irregularly
Xperia Z1 has one of the best displays
Go to settings > display > white balance and change colors to
Red 5
Green 5
Blue 117

Yeah I agree with regard to color reproduction, but there's nothing that can be done to fix a bad viewing angles other than getting a better screen.
@OP, I would rather get the z1c or Z3c for its battery life and compact-ness if it's in your price range
I recently got one over my Nexus 4 and can definitly recommend it.
What I don't like:
- The screen has a little border, especially top/bottom. But that is in all phones, the speaker/mic and front camera need some space.
- The stock screen protector. While it adds an extra layer of protection it also easily scratches. Warranty seems to be ok when replacing it, but you better get that confirmed.
- Some crappy preinstalled apps. But then again, that is even worse with other phones.
- The "big" internal speaker is a little quiet when listening to music because it needs to be waterproof.
What I like:
- Good prices and basically still the same hardware as in the newest phones released just recently.
- Battery life. At least comparing to a Galaxy S4 I can easily beat it with Stamina Mode. No comparison to Nexus 4.
- Design. It looks and feels very high quality.
- Waterproof. No need to say more.
- Officially unlockable bootloader. No need for hacks, just get a code from the Sony website and it's unlocked.
- Best of all: Only slightly modified Android. No crazy stuff that makes it complicated or laggy, and it looks pretty neat.
I appreciate your help guys, thanks a million
Put it this way...
Dropped my Z1 while the flip case was OPEN... from the top of a scaffold. About 12 feet in the air.
Scratched one of the port covers but it didn`t break. Works perfectly. Very high quality.
My wife also dropped hers down stairs about a week ago. Not a scratch. Not in a case.
These phones are built to last (excluding the port covers... the seals come loose after a while)
Buy it lad!
