[Q] Reassigning menu button - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Ever since I have a GSA I have been searching for an option to change what happens when i press the menu button. Before i had a HTC One S and i really loved its application switcher. I was wondering if there is any way to get the application switcher open on pressing the menu button, and then show the menu on longpressing. I know that the CM10 diego is working on supports it but it is still in ALPHA so i do not want to install it for daily use. Anybody any idea how I would achieve this on any other ROM?
Thanks

System/usr.
Find keylayout file and edit it.
I do not respond to tech support via PM

Sorry, should have mentioned. I already tried to do it through that file, but first of all. I couldn't find the key mapping that corresponds to our hardware key, and second, that leaves me without any functionality to get the options menu to appear since longpress is not handled in that file

Now that there is a pretty good cm10 build this issue has been solved for me

Yeah, I can change a key press of it to launch recents instead of going to home but that isn't what I'm looking for.
I want to remap long press functionality which is a more involved process.
Thank you.

I'm trying to get this to work as well. I'm trying to map it to the menu button. All threads I can find, tutorials included, are remapping to single press too. I've been checking out the key layouts folder in system/usr but I can't find anything referring to long presses. Have you made any progress?
If I remember correctly for the HW long press the DPI of the handset needs to be set to 'Phone' rather then 'Tablet' if you are using the latest version of PA.

[Q] remapping htc one button

Hi my fellow Xda friends,
I'm currently using revolution ROM, I'm wondering is there any kernel that allows me to remap my button according to my will?
At the moment my logo is setting/ menu, and I'm hoping to change my back long press or home long press to multi task, since the double tap home doesn't always recognise.
Cheers

In one word no there's lots of options in some kernels just not that well not yet
Have you tried changing double click speed in button settings ?
Can be normal, slow or very slow. These are with stock kernel

(REQUEST) hardware key button remapping mod

Does anyone know how to remap the harware buttons similar to what viper rom has as options? For instance long press back, home, and double press back and home. Also swipe up on home button. I would imagine that this is possible through smali edits in android.policy.jar but I don't know where or how at this point. If someone could help me I would really appreciate it. I love venom rom but I would like to atleast try out a few other options out there but I have found the remapping options with venom extremely had to give up.
Thanks, in advance

ViperOne can do this.

Nearly all of the custom roms and kernels for the One have remapping options. Are you trying to learn how to do this manually?
Also, the One only has capacitive back and home buttons, not hardware buttons like the Galaxy series.

No there are only a couple sense roms that have this option. As far as not being hardware buttons, it should be understood what I am referring to.
The only option that some kernels add is for HTC logo for menu

If you need to use the Volume to wake up your phone, you can use a custom ROM such as the latest version of Android Revolution HD. Also in this latest version, long pressing the home button acts as MENU.
If you need to assign a capacitive button to work as MENU you can use a custom Kernel such as Faux123. It gives you the option to use the HTC logo as MENU and to wake your phone using the Home button and Sleep using the long pressing the HTC logo.
If you need to use the Volume Keys to take pictures inside the camera app, you can use this mod

Softkeys Navbar

i am having a problem with the softkeys navbar.
what i remember, there were supposed to be another button where i pointed with an arrow on the screenshot i have added.
i tried to search on the forums but coud not find anything
how am i supposed to get that button back
i cant enter the settings of some of my apps like Facebook without that button ?
i am running rooted stock rom
android ver. 4.2.2
build number: 10.3.1.A.2.67
The menu soft key is only displayed when required by an app. It is not displayed on the homescreen or in apps that do not need it.
To access Facebook's settings, pull the drawer out from the left and scroll down to find the settings.

Nook 'n' hardware key mapping?

Is it possible to map the 'n' key so that when I long press it it goes back?
I'm on cm10.1.3 so card install & the option to map the long press is there, but not for back at all. It seems this has been removed from recent cm builds.
As such I'm using an app called GMD Gesture Control, but it's not that reliable. App switcher isn't something I use regularly so being able to map the long press would be ideal.
Cheers.
This works for me in carbon
