You can enter the following until you reach c:\
cd ..
this will get you to the parent folder, doing this repeatedly will lead you to c:\.
Once you are here enter
cd Android
or the name of the folder you created.
Hope this helps.

Sorry about long reply have you download Android sdk

[Q] Rooting HTC Desire C

Hi there,
I've been searching forums and web pages for days now to find a guide to rooting the HTC Desire C. There is no sub-forum for this phone and I've only been able to find about 4 small threads on this device so I'm posting here. I have some dev knowledge but, nothing to do with mobile devices so excuse my ignorance if you can.
I've tried superOneClick and z4root to no avail. Didn't think it would be this tricky to find a way to root the phone. If any one can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful or if they can, maybe you know a decent guide to explaining how root access is obtained so I can try it myself(if possible).
Thanks for any information.
On MoDaCo, there seems to be a method to root the Desire C. See http://www.modaco.com/topic/355158-r1-superboot-how-to-root-the-htc-desire-c/
Thanks a lot. That guide did the job.
---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 PM ----------
Im a completed noob!!! I've registered with HTC dev to get the unlock code for my desire c but cant get my cmd to understand what I'm trying to do! I'm using my laptop which runs windows 7. Each time I type the comand 'Android>...' & press enter I just get the message 'don't recognise Android as an internal or external drive' ... please please please help!! ... again I must stress I'm a very very noob who don't know much so any help is very welcome... ta
@rob# I have gone through this process, so I know it works! When you are in the command prompt window you must change directory to where you have saved the files so for example if you saved them in a directory 'c:\android' and your command prompt is 'c:\username\whatever' then your command should be 'cd \android' then the instructions should work.....
:fingers-crossed:Thanks bobmcann, brilliant advice & that bit worked fine... but then I did something else wrong!!! I completed all the unlock bit via the cmd screen, got my e-mail message from htc to tell me what to do next & then my power failed on my pc! I've since tried to redo everything the HTC dev page says but when I try to generate another unlock code everything just hangs & nothing happens for about 15 mins, then I get bored, disconnect everything & turn off my pc/phone... what am I doing wrong now!!?!! is there an easy way to fix this or have I screwed everything up? Please help me (again! - I will get better at this I promise) - thanks
@rob# you removed the device while trying to install a root or unlocking ur bootloader, tbh am supprized it isnt fully bricked, try reinstalling everything from the start
The rooting method works, but is there any unroot procedure?
After having the desire successfully connected and starting the bat-file I always get the following error message: "booting....failed <remote: not allowed>". What am I doing wrong?
Hi,
I have problems with Android 1.0 driver. It doesnt works so I cant root the phone. How can I solved this problem? Where I can find driver? Thanks for replys.
I used the guide posted on modaco and it worked fine for me. Posting some screenshots or a more detailed explanation of what you're typing and what you're seeing would allow people to help figure out why you're having issues.

You have to follow the instructions very closely on the HTCdev website -- make sure you have all the software they ask for including:
Android SDK Tools
HTC Sync Manager
Java Runtime
All three of these are at the upper right corner of the first page of instructions. Once you've downloaded the HTC Sync Manager, an OS reboot should then fix it. When you connect your phone the driver should self-install.

[Q] Root HTC One with Mac OS Mavericks

I recently purchased a HTC One and it's T-Mobile branded, so I wanna Root my phone to get updates faster and be able to run apps with Airplay and stuff.
The problem I (and many other Mavericks users) have is with the Android File Transfer software.
I can install and rut it, but it won't recognize my HTC One. It keeps giving the same message about how I need
to connect my HTC One.
There are workarounds to acces the files (like connecting via WiFi through an IP-address or use the HTC software), but I think it's not possible to root the phone without direct acces to the files as with AFT, or is it?
I wanna make sure I can run the script before I brick my phone.
Can any of you guys confirm I can run the script without AFT?

I can help u bootloader unlock and root the phone
Follow these instructions to set up fastboot and adb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
go to
htcdev.com
create an account and choose bootloader unlock option. Choose All other Supported Devices in the dropdown list
follow the instructions to successfully bootloader unlock ur device. This will delete ur data, so make a backup
Once ur successfully bootloader unlocked, quote me and post it. Ill tell u how to continue
Getting the android file transfer program to run and getting the adb/fastboot/androidSDK set up are different issues.
By far, the latter is more important. You simply can't root without it. If adb is working you can use the commands adb push or adb pull to move files on and off the device.
If you really feel like you need the android file transfer app, read http://trjlive.com/2013/10/guide-android-file-transfer-mac-osx-mavericks/ for an explanation of the problem and a possible workaround.

[Q] [Help] Unique situation: root to unroot OR just unroot

Question/issues solved - thread done!
Picture of M7 screen with information: http://imgur.com/a/l6hIg
Basically, last year I traded this phone for my current phone at the time with a T-Mobile employee.
Got home and reset everything, setup everything to my liking, etc.
I then tried to go through the rooting process and all that but it didn't work (sadly, this was a while ago and I don't remember the exact issue...).
I tried everything I could but nothing worked and so I gave up since the phone was working fine other than it not being 'rootable'.
Fast forward to a couple days ago and I found a great deal on the M8 and have been using it to make sure it is everything the seller said it would be.
Then my friend said he wants to buy my M7 and I said sure but I need some time to backup my stuff and clear/reset the phone.
So the real details/interesting part of the situation is this:
Between when I got the M7 and a couple days ago the performance of the M7 has degraded and by this I mean that I have to restart the phone to get mobile data working (even though the symbol shows 4g/LTE), some apps have randomly crashed (namely Maps but it seems updates have fixed that). When I did try to root and all that, I installed TitaniumBackUp Pro and Root Explorer (here comes the interesting part) - sometimes TPUP has root access and sometimes it doesn't have root access; however, Root Explorer has always worked for what I needed (looking for downloaded files).
So is it possible to somehow properly root the phone and then unroot to make sure everything is good to go for my friend or do I need to just unroot the phone? Or do I simply need to do a factory reset (I am fine with this since I have all my contacts on the M8 already)? I haven't touched any software/rooting stuff since my 1 and only attempt to root the phone.
Sorry for the wall of text and I did try searching for similar posts/threads but couldn't (maybe I searched the wrong words?) and please feel free to ask questions for clarification and I will do my best to respond ASAP! Thank you in advance for your help.

probably a better idea to reset the phone back to stock. can you post the output of "fastboot getvar all" except imei/serialno?

@alray:
Thanks for the quick reply. I will gladly just reset to stock if that's the easiest/best method.
I currently don't have ADB setup on either computer since I haven't been in the rooting game for a long while now.
As of now I'm on my MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display and Mac OSX 10.9.4 and internet connection.
My home Windows desktop currently doesn't have internet due to some issues at home...
So I'm guessing the first thing is to setup ADB on the Mac (if possible?), though I haven't done it before on a Mac.
Thanks.

So you have probably unlocked the bootloader in your attempt to root the phone. When you unlock the bootloader, it wipe users data but it also wipe some preloaded app by HTC in /data/preload. Problem is your friend will not be able to install ota updates with those missing files.
Good news is that there is a ruu for your phone version you could use to reset the phone back to stock and it will also wipe all your personal data at the same time, like if the phone was new (no need to factory reset). The ruu is a .exe file so you'll need a windows computer and because of the hboot version on the phone (1.44) you can't use windows 8.1 to flash the ruu, you'll need windows 7. Because your phone is S-ON, you'll also need to relock the bootloader before flashing the RUU. After flashing it, the phone will be wiped from any user data and ready to take ota updates.
so
relock bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem relock
download the 1.27.531.11 ruu.exe from here
with the phone booted in bootloader mode or booted in the OS and connected to the windows 7 pc, lauch the ruu.exe and follow simple instructions so the ruu.exe will flash the phone automatically.
sell the phone to your friend

My first post has a link to a picture of what the current status is of my phone, if you missed it before.
I will look at this part in more detail after I'm done with work
I'll post asap when I get a chance. Thanks!
@alray:
So I tried the bootlock command but then got the following error/problem (see screen shot).
I was either in the wrong mode or did stuff in the wrong order...
What I did:
1) open Terminal app
2) move to the adb/fastboot folder on Mac
3) type in the fastboot oem relock command
4) then received the attached screen shot error/problem.
I have a feeling the problem is going to be a bit tougher to solve than anticipated...
EDIT:
I have managed to screw up my device by doing factory reset and getting rid of the OS
EDIT 2:
I have managed to solve the above issue of no OS by getting CM 10 installed and working.
Now I need to get things back to stock to sell to my friend.
Thanks!

So quick recap:
1) use the fastboot oem lock command
2) install the RUU.exe that you linked to me (I have it downloaded) on a Windows 7 computer (which I have)
3) then everything should be good to go and I can sell to my friend
Question:
Do I need to have HTC Sync Manager and/or USB drivers installed on the Windows 7 computer for the above process to work?

I don't think that the M7 is communicating with the computer/adb based on the screen shot attached and that after typing in the command to lock the bootloader, it keeps waiting for device.
Thoughts?

Yeah, the drivers installed just fine.
However, I actually just showed my friend the phone with CM10 on it and told him the pros/cons and he was just fine with everything since he just wanted a phone that would work and not freeze/lag like his current phone does.
So thank you for your help and the situation has been solved!

Here is alray's procedure we will use. After you get adb & fastboot installed with the phone connected type the following in a cmd window:
Code:
fastboot getar all
. Post it here except for imei and serialno then we can find a ROM or RUU to flash to get you back to stock.

If in doubt Google it! Here are two Google search results on command windows:

Here's how to open a command window in the sdk folder:
Hold left shift + right click a blank space inside the folder where adb and fastboot (sdk) are located and select ''Open command window here'' from the contextual menu.

HTC Desire 510 unlock boot loader/root cricket no pc

hello everyone....after days of trying and searching I've decided to make a thread to see if I can get some help... I'm trying to root my phone to enable tethering, but I first need to unlock the bit loader. However, although I do have a laptop, I only have internet access on my phone. Is there a way I can unlock boot loader and root my phone without having internet access on another device? I've viewed several threads but I'm not very savvy when it comes to rooting and they all use terms I'm not familiar with...any help is appreciated.

If you stopped and thought about what you are trying to do you could just download the stuff you need onto your phone and then connect the laptop and transfer the stuff over you would not need internet on the laptop just yet...
Or you know, McDonald's has free WiFi haha.
Yes those are both options, the problem is all the tutorials that are on here are using terms um unfamiliar with... I'll continue to research tho

Well what is it that you're unfamiliar with? Everyone has to learn somehow and since you're actually trying to help yourself I'm willing to help you I just don't care to help people who won't even try to help themselves, but what are you trying to do?
I'm kind of in the same boat I've rooted a couple other phones but my HTC seems to be way over my head. Really it's the unlocking of the boot loader that gets me. I have WiFi and pc and little knowledge but is there an easier way to root my 510
Newbie90, same boat as you with the 510 but I can't definitely give u a heads up on what to do for your current predicament.
1- go to htcdev website (google is your friend), get yourself an account and validate it... you'll have to get the drivers for sure...
2- download fastboot (i'm sure you can figure this one out too, you can also get it from htc dev), if you're doing this on your phone, make sure you copy it to your pc (says desktop\fastboot)
since you're going to be needing to be in download mode, you will lose internet connectivity obviously, so might be a good idea to head on out to mc d's so your laptop has access to the htc dev site to get your bootloader unlock (access to email as well)
3- put yourself in download mode (from powered off state, press and hold power and volume down)
4- open your desktop\fastboot folder, click the file menu and open an administrator prompt here
5- type fastboot.exe oem get_identifier_token
6- you'll have to copy/paste some text into the htv dev site
7- you'll get an email with a unlock_code.bin that you'll have to download to the fastboot folder and the contiuation of the instructions
8- flash the bootloader unlock, i don't remember the command but it's in the instructions
an auto restart and that's it
once you're bootloader unlocked you can root/flash ROM etc... but now where i'm stuck with this handset is getting it carrier unlocked!
