[Q] Sync problems Facebook & HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since day one I am not able to open my Friends-list in Facebook on my HTC One phone. When clicking on Friends I will get this message: Cannot retrieve friends list. Please try again later. [1/An unknown error occurred]
When checking Settings/Accounts & Sync in Android I will find an red refresh symbol of Facebook and this message: Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
I did completely remove Facebook, People and Contacts on my tablet, phone and PC. But after re-installing everything, the problem remains.
I am not able to see my friends list and can not tag friends in a post. Also my contacts pictures in Android are not synced with the Facebook profile pictures.
What can I do to solve this annoying problem?

460 views and 0 replies, damn. Nobody got a clue? I tried to contact Facebook as well, but no help from them either.

Thanks for helping xineis!
I tried those steps but that didn't help either.
I removed and/or cleared:
PC>Facebook>Account Settings>Apps>every single app
Phone>Accounts & Sync>Facebook
Phone>Accounts & Sync>Google
Phone>Apps>All>Contacts Storage
Phone>Apps>All>Facebook (also uninstalled updates)
Phone>Apps>All>Facebook for HTC Sense
Phone>Apps>All>Google Contacts Sync
Phone>Apps>All>HTC Sync
Phone>Apps>All>People
I also removed all contacts from Google contacts on my PC.
After these steps I open Facebook, and after filling in my credentials I choose Sync all. After a few minutes, when I check the Phone>Accounts & Sync>Facebook option I will find an exclamation mark right next to the refresh symbol within Facebook Contacts.
I tried all kinds of configuration but never have been able to solve this issue. Facebook will simply not sync the contacts.
More suggestions please!

Just tried a full wipe but that also does not change anything. Than I tried another Facebook account and that worked just fine. But when I tried mine, same problem remains. Must be an error on Facebook server.
How can I contact Facebook directly? The help function sucks and it seems they just ignore my messages

You even tried the "change password" step?
humm, I don't have the One (yet), but as any Android device it probably has that reset button (is that the "factory reset"?). I know it's a little harsh but it could (maybe) solve your problem...

Have you tried alternative facebook apps like Fast for Facebook and Haxsync? See if they have are having sync issues as well. Also, is your phone 'authorised' by Facebook? Long shot but worth trying

Dont mean to sound simple but...

Ok I had the same problem for ages and one day realised that not all syncs were on - under phone settings yes but apps have individual settings that cannot be overridden by your phone... I'm sure you wouldve tried something so simple but just in case - go into your Facebook app on your phone, under the menu tab select 'app settings' and at the very very bottom of the list there is an option for how to sync contacts i.e. none, all or existing only ...
This is probably something that you've already tried but hey, I was silly enough to not realise!!
I'm sorry if this was not much help, aside from blissful simplicity I am unable to assist.

very useful info
Thanks so much for the useful info ^^^....had this same problem and thought it was the recent kitkat 4.4.2 update. Thanks...am sorted

I have input all settings but it doesn't want to sync
I had this same issue since it was a suggestion for AthineOS's newest M2D release which is like a cross hybrid email system between 6.1 and 6.5.
Partially Working
According to the Google help forums, email syncing is not active yet. After reviewing the site below, there is no mention of emails syncing
http://www.google.com/mobile/winmo/sync.html
I was able to get contacts and calendar syncing.
If anyone is experiencing error 0x80004005, trying removing calendar sync. After successful sync, add calendar back. If error continues, try adding an entry to your calendar.
was anyone able to sync multiple calendars with WINDOWs mobile??
i tried m.google.com/sync but it says my phone is not compatible.
Even after changing the language, it didnt work, i m just able to downloadthe page but no calendar options in there.
when I go to m.google.com/sync
it tells me - device is not supported
well, google agenda and contacts sync works fine for me.. did not do anything special.. just the abc from google..
working whit the rom from -G-(garmin) version 10... just the plain full version.. no M2D or something els..
Thanks for the Tip!!

oO much better, because it sync's your outlook without your phone with google.

I had this error and the suggested solution didn't work.
However, the opposite (removing contact sync, sync, add contact back, sync) DID work.
It does seem a bit of a strange procedure, does anyone know what is causing this?

I know this is a rather old message but I would like to share my knowledge as I searched for this 0x80004005 error for a while.
The trick is to disable the tasks in the syncing and then it works like a charme.

Agenda widget taking a long time to load

Hey guys,
I was wondering, if anyone else has experienced this.
I use the HTC Calendar Agenda widget on one of my home screens, and sometimes it seems to never load entires. The calendar also does this at this the same time. The loading icon appears, but not entries ever appear. Anyone else got this problem?
Thanks
Lots of views, so I assume that no one else has had this problem? Any ideas for a solution.
I have had this problem aswell. I noticed a few times that it done it when the sync icon was displayed.
Will monitor this to see if it only happens when the handset is syncing.
Just seen my handset starting to sync again so i opened the Calendar and it has stopped at the Loading... screen again. So looks like it is waiting for the sync to finish before showing the agenda.
Is this the same with your handset?
Ok sync now finished. As soon as it finished the agenda displayed instantly.
I will need to check if it only happens when the phone is syncing or not. Thanks for the info though.
Hey guys, I will see if I can replicate and fix this problem. I can think of a few reasons it might happen so hopefully I can squeeze a fix into the next release.

I am confused. The next release of what exactly?
I am simply using the HTC Agenda widget, so I don't see how you can fix it?
Lol, sorry, I thought you meant Android Agenda Widget
I think it is still a bug in AAW so I will try and fix it anyways
I'm still getting problems with this if anyone can help?
i had this problem too, i deleted the calenda data and let it redownload events from gmail and now its is fine
Cool. Thanks mate. Is there a fast way of deleting all the data? Still fairly new to Android

I think the way to do it would be to goto your Account & Sync options and remove and re-add your google account.
Unless there is another way

actually the way i did it was go into settings, applications, find the calendar and select clear data
then just wait till it syncs to gmail and downloads all your events again

Just to update, i done this and all seems to be working fine for now.
My Facebook birthdays and events disappeared also and wouldn't come back, so i cleared my Facebook for HTC Sense data also and went through the setup wizard for Facebook again. After sync they all appeared again fine.
So far calendar is running smooth. Fingers crossed it continues.

[Q] facebook sync / profile picture problem

Hi, im ob darkys ROM 9.3.
Made a fresh clean Setup with factory reset.
The following steps were performed in many different ways:
I can't synch my fb contacts. Hi see the profile names with their information in my contacts, their photo also, but at the linked accounts field is the standard green phone contacts icon. Instead of Facebook its labeled with:unknown. But the missing blue fb icon (and the option to see the media and social fb tab in my contacts) there is another thing that is real annoying :
The profile pictures are shown in their profiles on my phone, but there's a blank image if they call me or in the message tab. Tried several different ways to solve the problem:
Import of an full contacts backup via Titan/myphoneexplorer/kids. Once in an empty phone without linked fb accs. Another time with facebook-filled contacts and than i tried to merge theprofiles..
Itried to use apps like acepic, which shows me an empty profile pic for the online and offline account (at this time both of them were definitely not empty) i tried the photo unlocked, which should give me the ability to use the stored fb profile pictures at my phone in other apps like goDialer... (so i thought it should also work for my message/caller id problem) but it said "coulnt connect to database... maybe busy. - over and over again.
I can set.up the fb contacts in 2 ways: about the account settings in my phone menu,or about the Facebook app. The first option gives me the option to select "add friends" (sorry, don't know the English title for the button. It is the one in the contacts menu, which let u choose your sns account in order to perform a buddy synchronization with your local contacts. But its kinda grey and if i select it, there pops an empty box with an ok button.
Probably you noticed that i tried several ways. I really have no more clues... i want this damn Facebook pictures in the message history and as a damn caller id. Iam from Germany... maybe that's important for some localisation things, i don't know.
PS. It worked before darkys
hey not that its much help but ive been having this issue also. also was on darkys
finally! Im not alone, thats nice to hear... googled like crazy but didnt find anything.
google seems to be a pain for finding these things.
im stuck on my own problem at the moment, i flashed a captivate firmware on my phone by mistake now wont boot :/ and i need my fone fast lol
Google removed that feature from.facebooks functionality about two weeks ago. Sorry guys!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
yeah, is red it already. But it only affects the Nexus One. Dont know if u red my post: The sync option IS available! And it works. But the downloaded pictures were only shown in my contact book.
And because of the app "photo unlocker" which repeats in saying: Database is busy, try again - i think theres a problem somewhere, which blocks other applications from reading in the database....
i have installed js8 with a rom of the kitchen. It seems that the pic sync doesnt work the way it should.
Is there any PC manager to sync and manage contacts ? So that i can give them pictures and push them back to my sgs ?

[Q] Sense: Facebook authentication problem

Edit: The problem can be fixed. Thanks a lot to Golubev!

As for me, I've fixed my problem.))) So, i go to Facebook settings page on my PC and change my password, after submit my new data, FB ask me to sign-off from all my mobile applications and I say YES. After that I've delete FB acc from my HTC One and add it again with new password... miracle! Now all my data - channel, calendar and contacts are syncronizing, BlinkFeed works. I'm happy now.
Try it, and Good Luck!

Hi guys,
I just got my HTC One today. I got big trouble with getting Facebook to work with Sense / Blinkfeed. At the first setup I added my Facebook account and the Facebook app works just fine. But I got a message in the notification bar, that says there is a problem with Facebook authentification. When I click on this message a Facebook page appears with the text "You have already authorized HTC Sense". I checked my privacy settings at Facebook and there is HTC Sense listed. But when I click on it, there is a error message "The application requested an invalid permission: whitelisted_offline_access". I already deleted HTC Sense at Facebook privacy settings and granted the permissions via phone again with no luck.
Do guys have any other advice for me? Thanks in advance.
Things I also tried yet: deleted data + cache from Facebook app on the phone. Reinstalled Facebook app on the phone. Deleted and reentered Facebook account at the phone.

I got exactly the same thing and tried quite a few delete/re-add combinations (on facebook site as well as phone). I came to the conclusion that its an issue with the Facebook servers as I am getting the whitelist error with other apps as well and I also got authentication problems with Trillian (as I had deleted it in Facebook and re-added it).
Then a day or so after I gave up, I got the error msg on the phone clicked OK and boom it worked and has been fine since.
FYI the whitelist errors I am still getting for Sense, MS Live and Spotify...
/G.
Hi schmoo, thanks for your reply. Seems that this problem is a bit extraordinary.
I figured out, that the problem only exists in combination with my particular Facebook account. I tried another account (fresh registered), which worked just fine. I don't know where the problem is with my account. I checked the blocking list also, no entry.

I'm having the "same" problem with my Droid DNA with the Sense 5 rom (with blinkfeed).
On Facebook there's the HTC Sense listed, but with no errors, unlike niehof.
I tried several combinations. Uninstalled and reinstalled Facebook app. Disabled platform apps entirely and reenabled on Facebook. Deauthorized HTC Sense and authorized it again via phone. Tried a few settings on Facebook... Switched to another ROM. Remove all Facebook related apk's ("Facebook for HTC Sense" as well) and installed them again.
Same notification error, and nothing about Facebook on my blinkeed.
I was assuming it was a problem with the rom port to the Droid DNA. But there were no users reporting this problem over there... And now I found this thread... Perhaps it's my Facebook account?
Well.... I asked my cousin to login with his account... And... It WORKED flawlessly. Blinkfeed populated. No errors whatsoever....
So... I'm with you, niehof. MY account is the problem. I just don't know where!
I'll try some logcats... If I find anything, I'll update.
Well... I tried to mimic my cousin´s Facebook settings and still: His account works. Mine doesn't.
There IS a difference.
When both of us remove HTC Sense from our Facebook, and then try to add it again via phone notification, here's what happens:
My account:
Facebook dialogs: [HTC Sense]
HTC Sense would like to access yadda yadda yadda. [OK];
HTC Sense would like to manage your messages yadda yadda. [OK];
Error persists. Error notification and still no info on blinkfeed;
HTC Sense shows up on Facebook. Limited to "only me". (my settings for old versions of FB for Mobile is set to "Friends")
His:
No Facebook dialog whatsoever. Actually... It kinda pops up, but doesn't ask anything and vanishes;
Blinkfeed works!
HTC Sense shows up on Facebook. Set to "Friends". (Settings for old versions of FB for Mobile is set to "Friends")
What gives? I really tried to mimic every setting.
His account just gives HTC Sense ACCESS without asking! And works!
Mine asks for permission. I accept both request. And it doesn´t work.
I'm at a loss :|
Changed my password. Set my language to English (to match his)... Nothing... Oh... And on Facebook it reads that the last time HTC Sense accessed my account was on March 18th! (Probably with my late HTC one X). This upon removing all HTC Sense access over and over. That "Last Accessed" on March 18th persists...
On his account, evidently, it reads "today".
Thanks for investigating this issue that deeply. I completed most of the steps also with no success. I'm actually at the same situation like you. The error at Facebook with "wrong permission" I reported at the opening post is gone now.
If I tap on the authorisation problem notification now, the Facebook app appears for a moment and closes it right now.
Contacted HTC Support in Germany already, but surprisingly they had no clue.

I've got the exact same issue - my account fails yet my partner's works. HTC UK have been useless, just suggested that I "look at facebook settings".
One thing I've thought of is that my facebook account is part of the developer programme, whilst my other half's is not. Any of you guys in the same boat?
My account is not a part of the development program.

Well... My account IS part of the developer program. To bad Niehof's isn't... That would narrow it down :|
My cousin's account isn't part of it and it works... Darn... I thought we'd have nailed it :|
I'm running out of things that could be causing it. I've trawled through loads of previous forum posts and made the changes that had caused problems previously (Changed email address to one without a hyphen, added locations to jobs etc).
Just finished doing a side by side comparison of all facebook settings with my partner's account and they are exactly the same. Spent about 20 hours working on this since getting phone on Thursday and getting close to giving up and returning the phone
Well... Created a fresh account and added my gf as a friend (to test blinkfeed content).
Same deal: HTC Sense gets added to the FB account with just a popup. No questions ("HTC Sense would like to..." OK CANCEL).
Everything works, no questions asked (aside from the brief FB screen that pops up and is dismissed automatically)
I removed HTC Sense from the account. Removed FB account from phone. Joined the Developer Program.
Readded account. Same deal. No questions... HTC Sense gets added to FB, and everything works.
So... Developer Program doesn't seem to be the problem.
That sucks :|
I'm in Brazil... We don't even have HTC officialy over here... So I'm stuck with what I find on the forums... If you guys find anything... Please do tell :|
Thanks for checking that one out.
Most frustrating thing is I don't know how to get the details of the authorisation error. If we could see those we might be able to deduce the source of the issue and could approach facebook for solutions.
Sucks that you don't have HTC to talk to, but they haven't been that useful so far!
Well... I was getting an unknow auth token, or auth token not found constantly on my logcat. Before I began to try and find the error.
Now I'm just getting this loop:
D/Facebook_Session(25335): getAccount
D/Facebook_Session(25335): getAccount enter lock
D/Facebook_Session(25335): queryAccount
D/Facebook_Session(25335): queryAccount enter lock
D/Facebook_Session(25335): Query Facebook account complete
D/FacebookUtils(25335): showNotAuthorizedNTF

W/System.err(25335): at com.htc.socialnetwork.facebook.SocialNetworkService$FacebookInterface.getPeople(SocialNetworkService.java:90)
There's that exception... On "ExtendToken.java". I even got FacebookEngine.apk out of the phone, and used apktool to get to that code... I don't want to get very technical... But I couldn't debug it through Eclipse... And that error message isn't enough for me :|
When I click the notification, there's the facebook popup, and logcat reads:
D/FacebookSSO(29224): call Proxy login
I/ActivityManager(576): START {cmp=com.facebook.katana/.ProxyAuth (has extras) u=0} from pid 29224
D/FacebookUtils(29224): showNotAuthorizedNTF

I/ActivityManager(576): Displayed com.facebook.katana/.ProxyAuthDialog: +236ms (total +329ms)
D/FacebookSSO(29224): authorizeCount = 1
D/FacebookSSO(29224): Got token, expire time:0
So... Apparently the token is there... And is authorized...
And then we're back to that loop... and exception on com.htc.socialnetwork.facebook.method.ExtendToken.checkNecessaryToStart
Aaaand... When I check the last time HTC Sense accessed my FB account... It still reads March 18th... :| So HTC Sense isn't getting very far :|
---------- Post added at 04:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ----------
Well... I got my HTC One X (mic and vibrator aren't working) to try and authorize HTC Sense through there... That was the phone that accessed FB on March 18th.
Guess what? SAME error! Same notification! Upon clicking the notification... Same accept dialogs. Same error...
So... Definitely it's on the FB side of things... HTC Sense never once gave me that notifcation on my One X (It ran Sense 4 and it's running Sense 4+... Both worked....)
Nice. Something changed... Apparently it isn't Sense 5's fault, necessarily. Sense 4+ is presenting the same error :| Bummer.
I've sent it on to HTC to see if they can make head or tail of it
Beyond my level of debugging and the all knowing google has no similar codes being thrown up
Got to love errors that don't show any error codes. If you can find the token id in there, could try using some of the facebook api tools to clear it and see if that clears the log jam

Well after owning the s3 and my partner the iphone 4s we were both excited about the htc one after the disappointing s4 reveal. Anyway we both bought a HTC one and when we got it home proceeded with syncing twitter and Facebook. Hers worked flawlessly but mine came up with an annoying authentication error.
I like like you tried to mimic my partners settings exactly and there is one slight difference. When my HTC sense links to fbook it says only me where as hers is automatically set to friends. I change it on my laptop to friends and still no joy. I have not updated the fbook app thinking this was the issue but this made no difference at all. I wanted to delete the fbook app but you can't on this phone again bloody annoying as I thought maybe re downloading it would help.
I was at a loss and took my phone back to the shop. They promptly replaced it and again I have the same issue. The shop says its a Facebook issue which I agree with but somewhere there is a conflict but I just do not know where.
I would love someone to come up with a solution because otherwise I will have to get rid and go for the s4,

HTC are proving nigh on useless regarding this, just suggesting them same old things again and again. I sent the debug info that phenome pulled up and I was rewarded with:

Clear Data From Facebook: Settings - Apps - All - Scroll Down To Facebook - Tap clear Data
Clear Data From Friend stream: Settings - Apps - All - Scroll Down To Friend Stream - Tap clear Data

Tried them. On Mobile Data. Had to recustomize my home, since they told to wipe HTC Sense data. I knew it would happen, but since blinkfeed is deeply integrated... I thought I'd give it a try...
Same error
My latest attempt:
1) Remove HTC Sense from FB after removing account from phone and clearing all data
2) Full factory reset inc all data inc photos, music etc
3) Add FB account first - didn't add Google, Twitter etc
4) Respond to authorise prompt
Result...... Fail!!!

[Q] Problems syncing contacts and calendar from default Microsoft account

Hello,
When I first turn on my phone, I added my Microsoft account. Then it downloaded the contacts, calendar events and emails.
Later on I updated a contact and realized that it didn't sync to my phone. I tried doing it manually (keeping my finger on the account and taping Syncronize) but that didn't do it.
So I thought maybe something was wrong so I reset the phone to factory settings, add my Microsoft account and... ONLY 3 CONTACTS copied over. I wipe the phone a second time and I get the same result. Third try, all my contacts are back but still not syncing.
Then I see that the only checkbox available for syncing on my default account is email. So it doesn't seem to sync contacts and calendar (which is weird). So, to test it, I modify an even on my phone and wait. It was never copied over to outlook.com.
Why? Why can't I syng all three easily like it does on my Windows 8 computer?
Did this happen to any one else? What can I do about it?
Thanks
Haven't seen that happening before. Normalyl I would say that a hard reset should fix that problem but given that you already tried that it seems like a rather severe problem. Perhaps there is something wrong with your Outlook.com-Account. You might want to contact their support team?
What phone are you using?

I didn't think of that! I keep trying to debug the phone but yes it could be on the outlook.com side. I'll check that out. Thanks.
I did a test yesterday. I added a new even in my calendar and it did sync. But I modified a contact and that did not sync. Very strange...

Thank you so much for that tip! I got support from them and there was indeed a problem with my account itself which they fixed and now it works fine! :good:
