Hi,
I am trying to find a solution for a problem with the Xperia T camera, I tried looking through the forum but couldn't find what I had exactly.
When the camera app starts if you do nothing and just look around with it, it will just shut down suddenly, sometimes after only 5 - 10 seconds. The amount of time varies but is normally very quickly, and it is becoming very annoying with the app vanishing just as you are about to take a photo. There is no black screen, freezing, slow down during or after and no problem starting it straight back up.
It was on T_9.1.A.0.489 (Three) and I tried repairing it. The problem is still there after flashing 9.1.A.1.140 today.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

How are you starting the camera app? via the camera button or via the app icon in the app drawer?

It happens after starting it from the lockscreen and from the camera button. I can't be sure about the app icon, I haven't really checked. It is my gf new phone, but I was using the camera recently when I needed to take some pictures and video at uni so I was the one who noticed it and she had pretty much not used the camera yet. She always gives anything that needs fixing to me, so that is why I am now looking.
I can try from the app icon later, don't have the phone with me just now.
Edit: Apparently it does not happen when launched from the icon, is this a feature then I take it?
I did actually wait and try it with my Xperia Z I got on Wednesday before posting here, in what was now a failed attempt at not looking stupid, and thought the Z was free of it but I have gone back and checked and it is happening but with a longer time before closing (Xperia T normally around 15 seconds although has been shorter, Xperia Z is around 30 seconds so I did not notice at first - and both are fine from the icon).
Is there any way to stop it, I would like to launch the camera conveniently without it timing out on me so fast (and the same for my gf who has an actual button like my last phone the Arc that did not do this).

Anyone else have issues with the camera not responding after taking a photo on 13mp setting? It's fine on 10mp though.

The problem is becoming more frequent. I noticed this:
After the camera stops working and the application asks to be closed, i need to wait just a few minutes for the application restart to work, but only for 1/2 photos. Only restarting the phone is the solution. I can use the camera for dozens of photos with no problem, then suddenly during the day, it only takes just one to block the camera. :crying:
With the first fw release i never had any problem.
This freezing is caused by focus sound, causing mediaserver to be stuck in loop.
It is connected with Bluetooth usage.
For example on my T, I am using BT car radio and when I drive somewhere and want to make some photo after that, even if BT is already disconnected, camera hangs when trying to focus twice and in log, I can see mediaserver running in loop. Camera must be force closed and mediaserver must be killed. Killing mediaserver wouldn't be such pain, using terminal, if it wouldn't have different PID everytime it's killed and if it wouldn't slow down the phone so much.
I hope I wrote it clearly.
You could also (provided you have root access) change you build.prop, changing
ro.camera.sound.forced=1 to 0.
If you change this a new option will be available in your camera app giving you control if shutter sound is on or off

Yes, but do you know what? No sound of focus or shutter is provided by nosound.m4a file. So this is not the solution.
Thank you guys. So how do we solve the problem in the easiest way possible? And why not all xperia t haven't this defect? Why doesn't it show up in the first fw? It 's very boring this defect in a phone where the camera is the first feature. I can not restart the terminal each time after taking a single photo only.
I am trying to find some solution...
i'm sure this is a issue of the new fw. I made many many photos with the last release and never happened. But why? And why only
few peoples are speaking about this?

You don't needa nosound file because it just turns it off. I use it myself and I can tell you this works and my camera never crashed on me.

As i said, problem was solved after changing location of saved pics to ext-sdcard.
absolutelly not. From the first time i started up the phone, the ext-sdcard was the location for my saved pics (i never saved my pics into the internal memory) .I tried to change and to re-set....but nothing is changed. Solution has to be found in an another way.
Here is some workaround for the mediaserver causing camera to freeze problem -
- http://d-h.st/TmT
It's SemcCameraUI with changed shutter tone stream type from "system enforced" to "system" (now shutter tone is turned on/off with global sound settings) and it looks like that the camera is not freezing anymore, but it needs some testing by anyone else with this problem.
Does it need the root to install?
Yes, it does.
Sony has to solve this issue. I think the "minor update" after the .195 was to solve this also. May be?
Could be possible. I am on .197 and I have no problems

I have got an Xperia Z C6603 and I just turned it off and turned it on afew mins later And now the apps won't open
They just blink and don't do crap all, but luckily my whatsapp opens if I keep clicking it like amillion Times but unlikely and so do some other apps but like 2 or 3 , can anyone help me and if you are facing the same problem, I have tried factory reset and it fixed the problem but it just happened again and I am not resetting it all the time
Another problem is I loose charge while using it while charging it. What kind of phone does that?:/ and sometimes it just stays at a constant charge but drops and I'm using the Sony charger in a mains socket and the phone gets super hot but I try cooling it down by blowing on it xD or putting it on a metal surface which cools it down pretty fast

I had the same issue and I know it started shortly after changing the stock launcher for the free Jellybean Launcher 4.1 from play store - and then I started putting apps in in the app draw into folders... I then decided I didnt like that launcher, and deleted it.. Straight after doing that, and going back to the Sony Launcher, the issue started (ie, you can press all the short cuts but they just wobble).. It was as if the 4.1 JB launcher (when deleted) stuffed up the location of the short cuts. This was on the unbranded AU 434 rom. :crying:
I ended up hard resetting the phone, and starting again, but avoiding using an aftermarket launcher and the issue did not reappear.
I've since gone to the UK unbranded 434 and no issues - but I've yet to use another launcher. No issues all good so far

here's what i tried, and able to replicate the issue.
Problem: icons just 'wobble' but not responding. Sometimes, need multiple clicks to get it working.
Resolution:
Noticed this occurs when using stock launcher, and in dev settings i turn off all the animations and transitions. ( i.e. window animation scale, transition animation scale, animator duration scale = off.
to rectify the problem, either completely turn off developer options, or set those three values to 0.5 minimally.
having done that, the issues have not recurred.

What firmware are you on? Yeah, it sucks to have issues on a brand new handset especially at this price! Try to check if there's update available. I'm currently on .531 and haven't had any SOD so far.

I have experienced this bug on multiple occasions as well since I first got the phone. The phone randomly goes to sleep but the backlight stays on. Then I am not able to unlock the phone by pressing the power button and I need to hard-reset it (vol up+power) to bring it back to life.
For me it happened once or twice already even with Optimized backlight checked
happened to me when i was trying to share a dinosaur effect photo in the camera app
I actually experienced the bug on a few occasions right now and can't see a pattern. It doesn't matter if I have optimized lightening on or other functions it will just randomly happen on different occasions.
I have just flashed the newest .534 firmware and soon after the same thing happaned again so I guess it has not been fixed as of yet.

Arrgh! I just experienced this screen bug . And this is for the first time in last 4 days of owning the phone. It occurred while the phone was lying on the table (battery 9%) & I picked it up to make a call, but the screen won't light up. Had to hard boot using vol up + power button. Have not touched the optimised backlight option (still checked). Hope sony fixes this asap!

i have just about had enough of sony to be honest, i cant believe this is the third sony device in a row where there is something wrong with it, i bought the xperia z tablet, the touch screen was way to sensitive until an update fixed it, i bought the z ultra and returned it because of the sod, and now this, i turned off my phone last night as i didnt want to be interrupted, try to turn it on this morning, the sony screen comes up, then a blank gray screen, rebooted it a few times with no luck, the last time i just left it and eventually it booted to the home screen
and just now, i opened the camera app, just get a black screen, open snapchat to see if the camera works there, nope, it says error with the camera please restart device, so i do, only to experience the sod again...
honestly, with my experiences with xperia, i have had enough, i can put up with mediocrity only for a bit, if i keep on putting up with this crap, it makes me look like a fool
stuff you sony
Same here, terrible bug. Screen is actually there, but backlight won't turn on. I have to position phones screen towards the light source in order to go to the screen settings to uncheck optimised backlight option. If it is checked I have to uncheck it to get backlight to turn on and vice versa. Sony, fix that as soon as possible 'cause you got some pissed Xperia Z1 users here!
Im with a uk model and still on the original 518 version, and I've been playing it around for several days but no SOD issue
same issue with z1 C6903
i using z1 with .534 also facing same problem for past a week. it is dead when phone calls in. have to hard reset too. come on sony, this is issue is not new. we need a solution.
mind you, the phone is not launch in my country but i manage to use it.
Hi All,
I am from India and using Z1 (C6902) and its been 3 days since using my phone and thank god, no SOD at all...
maybe since mine is C6902 thats why ... i dont know but no SOD here till now
I have noticed this bug after i rooted my z1. (root via kingo tool), before it was working ok.
So when power off button pressed, screen still active...
after some tries, i have disabled auto-brightness check box. its now more or less working.

You're buying products that are relatively new (except the Tablet Z) and expect no bugs at all? LOL I think you need to step back and look at the whole picture. To be honest Sony releases updates in a fast and consistent manner so you should be happy that do this. Even the Nexus devices have their share of bugs and always see people react like bugs do not exist. There will always be bugs and what you want from a manufacturer is to release fixes.
Hi, me too having this bug. I had this SOD twice since last 7 days. Had to do a hard reset both the times. Waiting for sony to fix it. I think its the jelly bean bug and not the Sony's firmware's bug but can be fixed, i think.
I am from india and on the latest fw. 534.
Please let me know if there is any solution to this available in the market. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is related to the app itself or the phone so I don't know if this is the correct place to ask. I'm using Sony's Lifelog app on my Z1 and it works as a total s**t. It measures everything but when I enter the app to see results, I have to press Refresh lots of times before it gets refreshed. Sometimes I even have to close the app and reopen it or just wait. There were several updates but the problem isn't fixed. Sometimes it starts working normally and after some time, same problems again. Now I'm trying to see my results but it won't refresh again. I keep pressing refresh, I get the "Refreshing" message which disappears after few seconds and that's it. I tried reinstalling the app, it sometimes fixes the problem for a short time and later it appears again.
It should be refreshed instantly. Is there a problem with my phone or this app is done by the worst programmers ever? I just can't understand how something like this can happen.
PS. Yes, my 3G/4G is on and fast enough. The same is with WI Fi.

My Nexus 6 is unable to start the camera. The google camera app hangs when it starts and nothing shows up. Earlier the camera used to open but it lagged a bit when HDR was on. Now the camera isn't opening anymore. The other apps like Instagram that use the camera are also not able to open it. The app opens up and hangs, nothing shows up just black screen and sometimes the message "Can't connect to Camera" appears. This issue came after 5.1 and I also had buzz launcher installed once but then I removed it. The phone is less than 7 months old and I bought it online from Flipkart (Indian e-commerce site).
What I've tried:
Forced stop the app (Google Camera)
Cleared cache of the app
Booted in recovery mode and wiped cache partition
Factory reset the device
Nothing worked for me, I tried these steps one by one and then tested the camera but it is still not working. Please help me with this, I paid a lot of money for this phone on my own and it feels really bad and annoying that the camera isn't functional anymore.
Thanks in advance.

You could try a different camera app.
Camera FV-5.
Camera is a nightmare
Here's my issue with the camera:
I've been on lollipop for a while and I haven't had a problem with it, until the camera decided to take a vacation on me. When it comes to taking pictures, the phone crashes and an icon shows my battery is dead, this happens on a full to half life, so I'm not sure what it's trying to pull here. I've cleared and cleaned the phone, my last option is to reset, though I have a feeling this won't work, since I'll still need the latest android update, so I'm back to square one.
The latest issue Is when it comes to uploading pictures, the phone crashes with the same error sequence.
And the finally issue is the sound the device makes sometimes with the camera. Which is curious because I am careful but it looks like I'm having issues from different sources. I'd like to rule out the software side first.
For the time being, I've disabled the camera completely.

From the Google product forums it looks like a failure of the camera app to close properly after use.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!category-topic/nexus/using-the-camera/aY0X1QiGuhY
Either by use of a 3rd party app that uses the camera or the flashlight. Also it seems that using face unlock can cause the issue.
That being said, and you've reset the device... Have you tried the camera right after the reset (without 3rd party apps)?

Yes, I tried the camera just after the reset and it did not work. I think the OS should be responsible to handle the apps and how are they being closed. Google is not working upto the mark on this. I still need help

Sadly, it seems like you have 2 options, sucking it up and installing another camera or RMA the device.
I wish that wasn't the case for you, I'm disappointed too. I love this phone.
