No way to recover it bro. Sadly. Always backup your things first.
The same thing happened to me today. I will install an app to backup my sms automatically from now on:crying:

Hello there must i uninstall the oneclick lagfix before i do the official 2.2 update?
Or can i update with it installed?
And can it be done without kies because i cant get that to work.
Best regards
+1
I would like to know this too - before the official is out, so I can get it when it's hot.
Also: is unrooting necessary before updating? I really like the added functionality from my rooted device, can I keep that?
I'm also interested in a definitive answer to this.
Also on a somewhat related note, will a batch titanium backup be enough to restore my apps, settings, etc. to pretty much exactly how they were before updating?

Well... isn't the firmware the only thing that changes?
Or will all the apps be deleted? (If not, why do you care about backups?)

Fairly certain that Kies updates wipe everything on the phone - equivalent to a factory reset.
May be wrong however
It seems you are right - damn.
"Another thing should be noticed is you must back up all important data before updating your phone, or you will lose all data."
all-samsungphones.com/lastest-official-firmware-update-for-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000
So... what to backup. All apps... will SMS messages be lost too? How about GPS settings, or stuff thats stored on the internal SD card?
Titanium Backup is godsent for factory resets. Yes it restores everything but Its advisiable to just restore the apps you installed and not the system settings.
Screwed up a few of my factory resets.
As for contacts, back them up on Google and for SMS you can use SMS Backup+ (note the +) which can backup your sms on gmail automatically and restore them! its so awesome
and no it wont touch your internal sd. Titanium backup files are stored there though
Thanks for the reply... however, SMSBackup+ doesn't work for me (keeps crashing), first app to do that to me, EVER.
Anyway, could anyone tell us about the root and lag fix needing to be removed or not?

it shouldnt be necessary but its advisable to remove OCLF,
for voodoo, its a must.
Its sad that SMSbackup doesnt work on you, there's alternatives out there but i prefer SMSbackup+ since it uses your gmail account which means its on the cloud
im not sure of the other alternatives but I certainly saw a few that saved to your SD card and can restore from there, im not sure how well they work though
Well, in that case, I'll leave it be for now (lagfix and root) seeing as Voodoo isn't yet released for Froyo:
"What about Froyo?
Current Froyo builds are leaked development firmwares, not meant to be released.
Of course Froyo is the future for Galaxy S and as soon as Samsung will release a stable firmware and the corresponding sources, Voodoo improvements will be ported to it."
Once that happens; bye bye OCLF.
lagfix
so we can update to 2.2 with the lagfix installed?
Yes I want o know this as well, I have OCLF 2.2+ do I need to UNROOT my sgs AND "undo OCLF" AND "remove ext2 tools" ? All of them or just one ?
Can someone please answer this

yes please answer us
YES, UNINSTALL ONLY THE LAGFIX (means restore EXT2 and uninstall the lagfix!)
NO NEEDS TO UNROOT! since the new kernel will be overwrite and you will have anyway an unrooted kernel again!
DONT FORGET TO WIPE ALL and hard reset...is the best safe way to a successfull flash! make a backup maybe titanium backup ... is a good way for the appz and dont forget to backup your contacts
then u can restore all!
I never had problems doing it in this way!
I went to the voodoo irc channel and the people said it was unnecessary to uninstall the voodoo lagfix before the firmware update. What IS NECESSARY is that you 'DISABLE LAGFIX' before doing the update.
lagfix
But i have the one click lagfix installed
I'd like to try out some MODs on my captivate. I've done the leaked 2.2 but I'd like to try some others. Is there a way to backup the applications and data I've installed since I flashed the ROM. I've done some searches which found clockwork and such but I'm unclear on what that really gives me.

Would it be too much to ask for a little elaboration? I'm in the same boat and a name drop doesn't really answer it for me.

Anyone that know a backup app/program that can backup all my data so that I can root my N1 2.3.4?
Not really up to the whole factory reset and do all customizing again... :/
I can backup my SD easy with USB cable but the internal memory is a different story.
Thanks
Maybe downgrade?
Hello XDA-Community!
I got the same problem as TheWierd - I am running stock 2.3.4 on N1 with no root and locked bootloader. I would like to change to a custom rom to have more fun (and mainly because i am running out of internal memory, so a forced move2SD would be cool). But i dont want to lose some app data like savegames, settings etc.
Is there a way to have a good backup before flashing the new rom? so getting root without unlocking the bootloader and therefore wiping the whole device? (e.g. is it possible to downgrade to 2.3.3 and use gingerbreak oder superoneclick?)
Thanks for any help!
PS: I don't want to hijack your thread, TheWierd, just wanted to state, that you're not the only one how's got that problem

No problem mate, would think that more got this problem but no real info about it.
Find Sh**loads of threads with the answer "Titan Backup" etc. replies...
Like they don't know that you need root to do that...
Hehe - ya, it's like an infinite loop - you want to root your phone, but in order to root it, you must unlock and therefore wipe it, before you can wipe it you want to backup the data, in order to backup you need to root your phone, ... etc.
I hope anyone can help here
MyBackup Pro is about as good as you are going to get. You can add a few SMS backup apps and stuff also, but you can't backup everything without root...
Hi again folks!
thanks for the info, danger-rat - I thought as much!
So i just did it yesterday. Flashed CM7 and I'm very happy with it! Ya, I lost some savegames (Stupid Zombies, Alchemy, etc.) but I also could backup some other data and settings.
It was really easy to flash it. Well, so I'm out here!
Kind regards and thanks
Hi!
I wonder if i can restore those sms deleted, my hopes are on the fact that everything was kept except the sms, I updated the X8 using OTA from 1.6 to 2.1
there's a way to restore those sms? if there isn't, if i follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875688 and downgrade the phone, everything will still be there? because downgrading is an option, but i'm not too sure if all the data are going to keep there after the downgrade
Thanks in advance! ;D
I think you won't be able to recover data, but you can try it.
Try making a backup with Titanium Backup (or similar apps) before downgrading, just be sure not to lose more data during the process.
Hello, I just received the 5830 Galaxy Ace of my girlfriend. I need to fix it, but before I do I would like to check if I am going to do the right procedure. She says it's slow, touch does not respond always, she has some connection problems. This is the info I have.
She has NO backups. No numbers, no pictures, nothing. The device is not rooted.
I already read some topics about Samsung phones and I noticed the software and procedures are slightly different than my Sony Xperia S. What I am going to do is:
Backup device (full backup?) with Samsung Kies. Just to be sure. Then doing an update with Kies to 2.3.7, stock. This is the latest for the Ace, right?
If the backup can be easily restored, I would like to wipe the device ofcourse. But I really have to be sure if I can restore the phonenumbers, sms, pictures, whatsapp on this unrooted device.
Edit: Change of plans. I noticed kies does not see a newer version than 2.3.5... Also backing up does not work like expected. I think I an going to root the device, backup all with Titanium Backup. Then flash the 2.3.6 Spain Stock firmware, root and restore most of the settings. Better idea?
Thanks in advance,

best thing to do with her phone is this.
first her contacts. save it to her gmail account.
pictures back it up(save it to a USB/Hard drive/ PC) before doing anything with the phone.
sms try a SMS backup and restore app from the market
whatsapp? messages? I'm not sure if you can backup the messages on it.
now with the new stock.
You don't need to root the device. (but you do if you want to use Titanium - I don't see a good thing with you using this app. just do the stuff I wrote above)
download Odin, your preferred stock version. (If you don't know how to flash via Odin. there's a tutorial here somewhere. )
2.3.7 is the Cyanogenmod......anyway maybe u should try flashing one of the stock based custom rom in the Development Section ...
