Minimal Case - Galaxy Note II Accessories

Hi, I am looking for a minimal case for my Note 2. I tend to go for the soft rubber/plastic combo. Not the completely rubber kind, but the one where it's a bit harder, but not hard plastic either.
As cheap as possible would be nice of course, I am in Canada.

Mercury tpu cases are pretty nice. They hold up pretty well according to how my mom's is on her s3. Around $10 USD and widely available.

DBA Cases Six Abundant Case has matte/rubber feel and is hard plastic and protects phone well compared to any other slim profile case. That's your best/cheapest option.

Why can't they make a case like this that covers the bottom and top of the phone?

this case covers the bottom and top much better than all other slim cases like elago and spigen ultra thin air, but i agree with you...a fully surrounded case with this body would be perfect.

I've got a few tpu cases from Amazon. I even dropped my phone from chest high to the concrete and not really any noticeable marks on the case not to mention nothing happened to my phone. Well except the terrifying fall to the ground lol. Any tpu case should protect your phone just fine imo.

You were lucky, this forum is filled with people who dropped they're phone with a case an and it shattered. I would not consider my phone sufficiently protected with such a minimal case and would really baby it.

Me included. It only fell a foot, it had a slimline TPU case on it, and now I have a crack across the bottom of the glass.
Don't scrimp on your phone protection, the repair costs are not nice.

I agree about the TPU case protection is not a lot of protection. I just use a Cruzerlite TPU and have had my phone dropped about half a dozen times with no problem thus far. Usually I'm in the processing of catching it which significantly reduces the speed, and thus the impact force when it hits the ground.
Than said, I wasn't expecting Otterbox defender protection either. I was only looking to scratch protection for the few times I may drop the GH2, and some drop protection. I wasn't expect to have dropped my phone so many times thus far. It's possible I haven't had glass issues from having the Just Like Glass screen protector installed. It's supposedly add break resistance to the glass.

I would imagine that a gel case would add a reasonable amount of cushioning protection. Possibly enough to reduce the odds of your glass breaking.
I suppose it's a trade off between safety and usability. I have an Otterbox Defender on my phone now, and though it feels safe, it's also now too damned big to use comfortably.

Maybe this one 0.2mm

Could try this.

Maybe he'll ship to Canadia.

I picked one up for about $20 from the local Sprint store when I got my phone that has a rubber cover and plastic hard case that covers the phone. It even has a stand on the back. There was no product name on it, just the Sprint name so I don't know who actually made it. It's been a very good case for it since I bought it back in November.

I use a seidio surface case. It comes in 2 parts and snaps together in the middle. It has survived one drop from my pocket onto concrete so far. The 2 halves popped apart which I think is by design because it's happened before when I had one on a blackberry. It's expensive though and I'm sure I could have found more economical protection if I had bothered looking.

Best very thin/low bulk Inc case?

I want a case for my Incredible, that doesn't make it feel so bulky. Something light and thin yet offering decent protection.
What's the best option here? Seidio Surface? Griffin Reveal?

I got a 'speck' case recently from Verizon's site for $5. Its been in a few threads on this site. Very protective and doesn't feel bulky. Those seido ones look way too big, and they're expensive.

I just purchased a Seidio Innocase from amazon and it looks great and is not bulky. I carry it around in a hip case which my old otterbox didnt fit in.
Just got the Seidio Active case, but may not be what you're looking for.
I don't think it's bulky just because I already think our phone is too slim and too difficult to hold comfortably; it adds 2.2mm to depth of phone.
This may be what you're looking for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4hK8IdPmU4&feature=player_embedded
i ordered the seidio rugged combo, comes with innocase and belt clip, i like it better than the otterbox defender, less bulk, solid and secure feel, and if you dont want the added bulk, you can just remove the "rugged" case and use the provided innocase..expensive but great buy, 2 cases in 1...
I have the Otterbox Commuter Case and it's perfect for me. The Defender series is like a tank comparatively.

I have the Seidio Surface case and I don't even notice a difference thickness wise. Seidio advertized it only adds 2mm to the phone's thickness.

Kinda like trying to handle that bar of soap that's been used down to about a quarter of an inch thick... Personally I liked the Body Glove case. My only gripe about it was the lip around the face of the phone was too big. It made using the full qwerty impossible and down actions on the track pad difficult. Good luck finding one though. The stores that have them keep them right next to the chicken teeth.
I too have the Seidio Surface case. It's great. Very slim, yet it offers protection to the camera lens.
I just got the seidio active case and i like it also its not bulky to me and it fits the phone really good.
I use the Incipio Feather case. It sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Decent protection and so slim you almost don't even know its there.

used to use one but not anymore. My screen shattered with one on and I never got a scratch before (6 months of having it and dropping it, sliding it face down).
Replaced the screen for $30 and now I don't use one because it's a hassle that I don't need.
It's useful for a lot of people though.
High Gloss Silicone
The Verizon High Gloss Silicone case is inexpensive, protects well, and add just enough thickness to protect the camera lense. My phone bounces when dropped onto concrete, but still slides easily in and out of my pocket.

Had shipped from Verizon for less than $10. It's what you are looking for. This is the case I have now after the speck case. Very light weight. Speck was nice, just turns from red to salmon after a while.

I use the otterbox commuter. It adds some much needed depth to my phone, as I love the dInc, but its too thin for me to hold comfortably. The added depth also has the pleasant side effect of protecting the camera lens. Its over a year old and there's not a scratch on the camera lens; only scratches on it are 2 corners nicked from a drop (cleaning the phone without the case on it) and some minor pocket rash on the screen.

+1. -- I've had this case since I've had my phone (brought case for $20 at that time) and I love this case. Doesn't at any weight or bulk to the phone. Phone is easy to take out of phone, does not get stuck like the other 'rubber' cases. Protects the phone very well, ports and buttons are accessible. Case is very easy to put on the phone and remove as well. I love it!

I'd buy one, but I live in an area where I get 2-3 bars. That case would put me into permanent roam.
I don't think it is much different than the gs2 model, as it's just a simple 2-piece frame. Somebody - who ridiculously tries to assemble it with one hand, while shooting the video with the other - posted a Youtube video. I cannot paste the link as I'm a new member.

doesnt really look like a good design.
the holes around the headphone jack and the microusb port seem to be smaller than the holes in my ebay bumper case. given that my ebay bumper case stops me from using a lot of headphone cables and microUSB cables, i would assume this case would be downright silly for the price.
I don't like it....
.I bought this case for s II and note...but design for note 2 is failed
Metal bumpers for Note 2 are terrible designed because Note 2 is too curvy compare to other phones and the bumpers usually does not fill in the gaps of the curve back, and usually at the same level without raised edges to protect the back from scratching too.
A no no for me since I tried with a cheap bumper case from eBay

Sorry guys, maybe I don't get this, but wouldn't any metal bumper case be only for looks and not protection? Edges of the phone, when dropped, are the most vulnerable points, and slapping on it a tight fitting metal will just transfer the shock instead of absorbing it to protect the phone. Am I missing something? These bumpers don't look like hollow metal tube with a "crumble zone" and inner soft lining. It looks awesome as hell, original for sure!!! But with additional weight to our phablet and what seems to be like a slick grip-less sides - wouldn't you worry that phone will be even more vulnerable to drop out of your hand/pocket with a higher chance of damage? Of course, I'm looking more from a practical point of view, while missing the whole pimping aspect of it lol!!!

Since the aluminium bumper is mainly one solid piece with a smaller one on top it acts like a strong exoskeleton taking all the force. For me the importamt thing is to have big enough cushion inside in order to avoid getting the phone in direct contact with the metal and also big enough lips to protect the front amd back.

How durable is N2 without additional cases?

Do I really need a case ?
What quality are materials used for back camera glass (will it scratch), back and silver borders?
Will the phone scratch in above places, by jsut keeping it in clean pocket or on table ?
I am considering case-mate tough case (prolly only good case available in Poland)
Its not as durable as an iphone I would say. If it had real metal for the bezel you could go by without a case. The metallic bezel scratches easily on this one.

And how about the camera glass? Does it scratch easily?
For me the biggest benefit of a case is more traction in my hand. This freaking thing is slippery without a case!

I've never read a post regarding a scratched camera glass, however the screen will most certainly scratch and it WILL shatter on impact, that much is clear from these forums.

I would have to politely disagree. The iPhone has a poor design in terms of durability. The screen (glass) goes all the way to the edge of the phone, meaning its corner is exposed. This is a bad thing because no matter how durable glass is, a simple hit in its corner will surely crack it.
For example You can take a hammer to a shower door and give it a slight smack on its surface without breaking. However, give it a slight wack on its corner and the WHOLE thing will shatter. This explains how glass as durable as gorilla glass is capable of cracking.

Completely disagree. As another poster said, iphones shatter way more thanks to the edges of the glass being highly exposed to impacts.
But as to the OP's questions, why would you NOT protect such an expensive investment?

Do you like playing Russian roulette? Unless you have insurance plan with your carrier or somewhere else ($10 a month or something like SqTd for $100, and deductible which could end up being anywhere $100-$200), I would invest in a decent $20-$40 case.
Plenty of posts in this and other forums about people shattering the glass when dropped even with tpu case or other slim plastic cases. Battery door scratch or camera glass scratch will be your least worries when you drop your phone and see a spider web going across your screen from the corner. If you want just additional grip, slim case will do it. But for drop protection you need something beefier with a bumper/lip for protection.

Either of those would be fine. Check out link in my signature for all the cases I have tested/reviewed in this forum. Since it sounds like you don't want too much bulk, for a basic everyday use Tough would be an excellent choice with SURFACE being right behind it. If you are more paranoid and will be using your phone outdoors - UAG is great. If you doing heavy duty construction work outside, CONVERT or Defender will do it. If you want to make bling-bling statement, go with aluminum bumper and fancy carbon fiber battery cover
I'm using two cases now: a UAG for when I'm at work and a Seido Snap case as a general walking around case. Both cases allow me to hide an RFID card in them for work access.
The phone itself is too slippery NOT to be in a case.
I don't know how you guys are saying this phone is very slippery. Its pretty slick with no case. The matte cases make it more smooth and slippery iMO

I strongly recommend you the Samsung Protective Cover +.I think you can find it in online shops from Poland ,or stores like Orange ,Vodafone and so on.I bought it from an online shop from Romania. It's pretty cheap.Fits very well ,had it for 3 months It adds the right amount of bulk. It's like 10,3 mm I think. It has raised borders around the screen ,so if it falls,it won't touch the screen. The back is glossy ,but the sides are offering a great grip
Also doesn't affect S Pen ,NFC ,flash or something else. There are 3 colors available:Black White and Pink.Any of these colors has white borders.Do a google search and you'll see.Ah,forgot to mention:I dropped it one time with the case on,the only thing that happened is that the S Pen went flying.
I use an invisible shield and that's all. Unless you handle your phone without care, then a case isn't really necessary unless alcohol becomes part of the equation. I have dropped my phone with the flip cover on concrete, to see it slide down the road in pieces. It didn't break nor did it have any drop damage, but I feel if I had a case, the force would have been expelled through the screen.
Samsung protcrive cover + interested me. It is nice. Have rubber raised above screen and is cheaper than others.
Anyone care to share his opinion?
Thanks for all answerws. I am still investigating other cases aswell

It was discussed as well before, rubber bumper is good, but the back part will scratch like hell. That was #1 complain about it. Also if you buy it online beware of CH cheap knockoffs.
My camera lens actually scratched somehow. Might have been when I accidentally put it in a pocket with my keys but I have never dropped it without a case on.

Best Protective Case for the Note 2?

After searching the threads and being horrified by pictures of smashed screens, I don't think I will take my Note 2 out until I get a protective case! It recently arrived and being so used to my HTC phone which I have dropped many times and has survived falling from my lap as I get out of the car, flying out of my bag and so on, I don't think I can take this risk at all with the Note 2. A little scared it is so fragile but I am wondering if those who have had the phone for much longer have found the best way to protect the phone. I guess the days of walking down the street checking my messages are over for now (plus being afraid someone will take it from me!).
I don't mind flipcases (especially as it covers the front) but most of the cases I have seen so far only cover the back but this doesn't protect the screen, so looking for something that will protect it all round.
I had been sporting a naked note 2 until a couple days ago, but after it slipped out of my pocket while I opened the door of a moving car going 15mph (only resulting some chips on a few of the corners thank god haha) I had to get a case. I read lots of reviews and decided to get the black UAG case and I love it. I like the way the phone feels in my hand with it and it feels very protected. There are cases that are more protective but they add more bulk, this doesn't mean that the UAG won't protective because to me this thing still feels like fort Knox in my hand with it hah

Wow a lot of reviews, thank you for that.
I guess I wanted extra protection for the front (when not in use) so the UAG is on hold. Went for the cheap flipcase in stead.
I have been using the Otterbox Defender for a couple of months and love it. Since I have dropped and had to replace two phones, I need the heavy duty protection. It's got a built in screen protector that covers the screen like a window. I like the fact that it makes the phone bulky, easier to hold.
Otterbox
I didn't want to give in to the Otterbox. But after I dropped my Note and scratching the S Pen, I did. I absolutely love it and it's by far the best case I've ever had. I even got one for my daughter's RAZR. She loves it also.
I've had my phone for a few days now and have really got used to the feel of it (light and smooth) but I know I shouldn't risk it. I don't really like the look of the bulky cases, and since I am a girl I want something more girly I guess, but I've gone ahead and ordered a cheap flipcase that was reviewed on this forum. Will see how that one goes for now and will upgrade as I find something for me.

I swear by the uag cases. I've dropped my phone down concrete stairs while it's (thankfully) been in a uag and there was not a single scratch to be seen as a result of the experience. The Otterbox is just too cumbersome especially if you are like me and often switch out the batteries.

I have the Otterbox, which I absolutely love, but it feels like the size of the phone doubles when I have it on my phone. I found another case manufactured by Seidio. It's the Seidio KONVERT combo and it has a hard outer case that goes on the phone and another rubber case that covers the hard case and is braced by a skeleton type covering. It sounds like it would be bigger than the OtterBox, but it actually isn't. THe phone looks and feels slimmer and it looks more elegant, where the OtterBox gives the phone a more ruggedized look. As far as protection, I am deployed and have dropped my phone a couple times and I haven't had any issues with it at all. Plus, you can take the rubber outer shell off and still have an good-looking inner case as well. Highly recommend it, as well as the OtterBox.

Which case?

Looking for a case that's:
1. Rugged (at least decent shock impact)
2. Somewhat slim
3. Not too pricey
So far I'm torn between:

And

Anyone know which case or of another have the best combination of shock impact without being too thick?
Thanks.

I have the case from the first link you posted. I've had no problems whatsoever thus far. The belt clip is really secure and the silicon not only covers the phone but it serves as a border around the screen so if you drop it the screen won't even touch the floor really. The case is decent too. Definitely worth $13.
about how thick is the case?

It's not bulky. You can trust the reviews on amazon for the case. It's worth it especially for the price.
I have the otterbox defender series. Due to the design of the case, There's a bubble in the screen protector. I simply poped it out and replaced it with a zagg screen protector. Search ebay, I only spent $30. Still waterproof and my 3 kids literally throw my phone across the room and it's still in brand new condition

I almost went with the iBlason, but ended up going to Unicorn Beetle route. It's a nice case and I really like it. It's a tough TPU throughout with a polycarbonate slab on the back. Looks pretty nice and feels good in the hand--quality materials. The only thing is you have to shave the little inner button nubs off with a razor blade as the Amazon reviews mention.
Good luck deciding.

I own both, as well as just about every other case made for our phone...
I hate the i-Blason, and have since I took it out of the package. Nothing really wrong with it, just not my taste. Inner portion is too mushy, hard to slip it in and out of my pocket, and I don't think anyone would call it "thin".
For "thin and rugged" you are far better off with the SUPCASE. Also look at the TUDIA Ultra Slim Melody.
