definitely stock roms have stock kernels (unless said that there are a few changes made). Besides, a rom that is modified from the original phone manufacturer is not a stock rom.

Sorry for the nooby question, but is it possible to root, and keep the stock froyo rom but add in a different kernel? (intersectRaven's for example)
Yes.
Though I recommend checking out the ROM linked in my sig, if you want to keep the stock FRF91... it has a black bar built in. Looks much better.
if i want to go straight from stock frf91 to that rom you have, i dont need to flash radio do i? because i think my radio is already right
as long as you have a froyo radio already you dont need to flash one for a froyo based rom.
I have decided to keep ota 2.3.4 rom but I am rooted. What custom kernels will work with the ota 2.3.4. When I try to flash a custom kernel it breaks the camera. Thanks.
Do you mind me asking why you want a custom kernel?
AFAIK there are no kernels designed for the 2.3.4 update although some might work just a mater of finding one. Could i suggest just flashing cm7 that way you can flash some kernels and on top of it you have a custom ROM with a mess of other features.

If you're looking for a kernel providing Audio Boost & support for EXT4, here you go, plus within the post there are a couple other kernels that work fine.

Hi all,
I'm new to android and some things I do not understand, for example I have the galaxy captivate with the following characteristic:
Rom Android 2.3.4 I897UCKH3
boog_kh3_kernel3
su-2.3.2-efgh-bin-signed.zip
I updated my cellphone using these files, and all works fine but I wanted install a new kernel the last talondev, but after install it I think that my sgs is on soft bricked, displays the logo of AT & T and then starts "loading talon...", but then restarts.
This kernel can be used with the rom? it is compatible? or What should I do to choose a kernel?
Best regards
Talon is I9000 port kernel you are using native I897 rom. Use Samurai, Corn kernel or Boog's kernel. Actually Im not sure there is a corn or samurai kernel for KH3. I know they have it for KJ roms.
I have to find kernels for KH3, right?
Thanks
Correct. Or update to a newer leak like KJ3 as a example.
And I can change to a custom rom? or that such the cm7 rom?
I talk to do this to exit the soft brick and have it back.
thanks
CM7 has its own special instructions. I haven't kept up with it so go to their thread and read. But ya you can change to custom roms like Fusion IX, Fasty and others that are based of a newer firmware version.

You need to flash back to boog kernel. If this does not work it is best you re-flash to stock KH3 with the one-click solution here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
Choose the one WITHOUT bootloaders since you already have those on the phone. It is safer that way.
Regarding CM7 ROMs. You must know they are completely different system compared to the normal Captivate ROMs. Read this thread before flashing:

Don't get me wrong. THEY ARE VERY GOOD CUSTOM ROMs...absolutely. But you cannot mix and match.....Follow CM7 instructions strictly.
thanks for the replies, I will be reading information about their opinions.
thank you very much , I'll let you know the results.

Nope, NOT possible.
Firstly, android is not really ready for swap and it will most likely spoil your sd card much faster.
Secondly, if you need a custom kernel, most probably you will need a custom rom. My recommendation: GingerDx.
I havent been able to get any of the kernels to work for the stock shipping rom of the phone. Does anyone know of the proper version or are there just none?

Most of the kernels that I found built for gingerbread are only designed to work with sense 3.5 and not 3.0. I can't think of any custom kernels that would work for you other than the stock kernel. You really only have a couple of options if you want to switch kernels, find a rom based on gb and use the kernel that goes with it or switch to ics if you can and use a newer kernel.
Well is there a way i could modify my stock kernel to just support over clocking or is it really not practical for a non linux user like myself to just edit some code? lol

Any kind of kernel tweaking will involve more than a little linux knowledge
I saw a post about swapping zimages. Would that work for this situation? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426499 post #2 he mentions porting to other roms.
