Charge it for at least 24hs. It should show a red light indicating charging at some point, just let it charge and then try to start it again. The flashing red light indicates that battery is empty.
If it won't start after charging 24h+, then your phone is probably dead. What were you doing to the device when this happened? Flashed anything?

what worked for me on my ion, was draining the battery empty so you just let it rest for a day just showing the red led. then put everything you need on your sd card and charge your battery again. then after a few minutes you should see you led comming back up and then boot up your phone, enter cwm (press a couple of times the volume up button) then first of all you do a factory reset, flash your new rom, don't forget to wipe cache aftwards, just to be sure. i hope this brings your phone back to life..

Well basically I left it on charge all night and it's still on charge now. I did try plug it in to the laptop.
It then prompted to install a driver and did but then jumped straight back out again.
I tried the vol+ & power today and got a vibration and it didn't boot after about 4 hours. So I tried it with the 3 vibrates and still haven't had anything since.
I spoken to sony and they will take it in under warranty but would rather try get it working on my own.
Btw I still have red light no mater what It disappears every so often while it's on charge

Taken from Sony Support.
1. Press and hold down the power key on the right side of the phone. If the battery status LED flashes red, try plugging the charger into the phone at the same time as you are pressing and holding in the power key.
When plugging the charger into the phone there is a risk that nothing happens – no red battery status LED as indication of charging, or nothing appearing on the screen.
If the charging doesn’t start, follow the instructions under To let the charger be plugged in for 24 hours.
2. If the charging starts, keep charging the phone until it’s fully charged. Indication of charging is that the battery status LED lights up in red, or that the SONY symbol appears on the screen and then the LED lights up.
3. Update the phone software using PC Companion, Sony Bridge for Mac or Update service. If no update is available, use Repair mode in PC Companion.
This should fix the problem.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To let the charger be plugged in for 24 hours
1. Plug the charger into the phone, and let it be plugged in for 24 hours. There will be no indication of charging, since the battery is discharging during this step.
2. Disconnect the charger from the phone, and wait for 20 seconds.
3. Plug the charger into the phone again. The battery should now start charging. It may take some time before any indication of charging appears (the battery status LED lights up in red, and shines continuously).
4. Let the phone charge until it’s fully charged. Then follow the instruction to update the phone software in step 3 found in section above.
5. If the phone doesn’t charge, send it for service.

Thanks for that bud it's been on charge all day even now. Iv just checked it and it hasn't changed the led is still shinning red. I'll put my little one to bed then try it again and see what happens.
Sony have said they will send me out a jiffy bag even if I manage to get the phone powered on just incase I want to send it away

Did you keep them down til you got 3 vibrations.?
One vibration is same as power off.
Three vibrations is a soft reset, same as removing battery.

also tried the repair through sony software and as before the phone will be prompted with the noise of something bee plugged in then it'll sound again seconds later to say it has been removed
just getting a bit annoyed with it now :/

I'd leave it on mains charge for full 24 hours again and try tomorrow,
if no luck send it off.

Strange power on problem wid xperia please help!!!!

hey,
I have an xperia black on the latest official rom. r3a (something)
just a few hours ago the phone was automatically switched off,
it was fully charged and it just went blank.
i tried switching it back on but no luck.
just one time it was powered on and was stuck at the XPERIA screen for 3-4 minutes and then again went blank.
when i connect to pc , my pc says usb device not recognized and keeps detecting my device.
now i have connected the phone to the wall and the red power led blinks after 20 seconds. when i press the power button the side leds dont blink or respond, just the top one blinks after 20 sec. the battery is cold.
i tried reinserting the battery alot of times and then put it back to chg for 30 mins, still no luck.
i searched alot but didnt find a solution. please help
hehe it is an expensive buy........
charge the battery using wall charger for the whole day and then turn it on - your battery must have died compleatly somehow and this happens to loads of people if the charge gets too low

No I haven't. But if this happened to me, I would be back at the place where I bought it in no time!
See if you can use someone else's battery to see if the X1 still works with that. This sounds like a seriously dead battery which needs to be replaced.
Good luck!
Calm down. Most people visit the forume once a day or less. You can't expect them to answer right away.
Your problem afaik is that the phone can't detect the battery. Read this and tell us if it helped you.

maybe it is a case of dead battery....
my question is , can the battery be dead instantly, because it was fully chged and suddenly it was all blank.?

I don't think that is possible. It probably is a hardware fault in the phone itself. Maybe a connector or something burned itself out. Unfortunatelly that can be fixed only by professionals.
My advice is to take the battery out for a couple of hours, then put it back and let it charge. If there is no response after the charging go to a repair shop .
Keep us informed on how it goes .
well i went to the company today, the one who deals with the warranty and they refused to take the phone under warranty saying that the phone looks drop dead, ( i have quite a few of them scrathes on the back)
i dont know how he asumed that it has been dropped, anyhow i was disappointed and took it to a local repair shop and they checked it with another battery and still no luck so they said they will have to flash the phone and it will be ok.
BUT!!!
when i came home i just blew on the battery terminal on the phone and inserted the battery and the phone switched on YESSSS!!!, but after some time it was halt again and was switched off, now sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesnt, when ever i blow on the terminals it comes on otherwise it wont.
can it be the case of moisture inside the phone?
because the day it faulted, that day i was sweating and i had the phone in may pocket.
if yes please whats the solution.?
thanks in advance
ps
the phone is also very slow to boot
the screen is also flicking a little
the red light under the power button is telling u that the battery has run out. if u get it with a fully charged battery it either means the battery is dead (in the sense that if will never charge or hold its charge etc) or the handset is buggered. best bet is to phone SE and get the phone fixed or battery replace (u will probably have to send the phone and battery to repair but SE might have a way to test if its the battery or phone).
also there may be a prob with the connection from the handset to the battery.

[Q] sony xperia z only has the red led light and phone wont turn on

hi, im new here so please be nice with me and bare with me, right my problem is ive just purchased a second hand sony xperia z the phone was working fully with no faults and I usually put and keep on charge over night to last me all day and this time I woke up in the morning and the phone was switched off with no response only a red led light I have tried all methods to fix this issue such as, volume+ and power buttons no response still then I was goin to try upgrade via flashtool or pc companion but for some unknown reason my laptop wont recognise my phone so im really stuck on what to do next its been nowhere near any water either 100%!! my very last option would be to take it into service repair but that could take upto 2 weeks and need my phone for work, ive also been told it could be hard bricked or have been diagnosed with sudden death but cant get into flash mode at all oh and I have also tried the charge the phone for 24 hours trick but still no response at all when this first happened it even took a good few hours for the red led light to come on when charging but now takes around 5 mins
can someone please help I would be very grateful for you time please take your time to read my post as full as possible
thanks in advance, I NEED HELP FAST, FAST, FAST!!!!!!
Download the Sony update tool click update phone it might say you have the latest version ,click restore phone
Aside from what suggested by juDGEY2k10 above (which should work), did you also check if your charger is working properly?
Try charging it with different usb source (...or another Z's charger if you can find one) with stable and reliable output (~ 1,500mA), let it charged for half an hour then see if you can turn on your phone. Please be reminder that the usb ports of some laptops may fail to charge since their power output may not be stable and sufficient enough.
Sounds very much like what happened with my first Nexus 4. Odds are the battery has decided to completely discharge itself to the point where nothing can revive it. How it happened for you, I've no clue, but the only remedy that can work is simply sending it in for replacement/repair, since you've already tried everything else.
i suggest changing another power source or charger. It does look like its out of juice and not able to to power on.
Maybe use your computer USB with the different cables to single out the problem.
do note that the phone needs about 5% battery to power up. So give it some time, maybe 30 mins to 45 mins and try to power it on again.

Hi guys, I got an Xperia Z of one of my friends to try to boot it up, same boat as OP, black screen, red led, not recognized by pc (no fastboot, no adb shell, no FlashTool).
I tryed to charge also with my Motorola USB cable, no way.
Can we only send back to official assistance?
Try to dissconnect the batery then reconnect it, put it on charge and after a few minutes try to turn it on.
I hope it helps.
One thing to check: does the led come on when plugged in, then disappear when unplugged? If so its probably that the battery isnt charging. If the led stays on (red or other color) for some time after unplugging than it may be something else, the phone is holding power but not booting.
Youve tried hard resetting /shutting down I presume?
This is why I hate phones with sealed batteries, it was almost a dealbreaker in buying this but i gave it a go.
If its the battery and you dont have warranty or insurance (or its too expensive) you can replace it yourself with a little time and research.
I have the same issue, it's because the battery isn't able to hold a charge. This happened to me the day after the recent 4.2 update, I have yet to figure out how to get a warranty replacement as there are no sony stores where I live. However, it turned on briefly when I pressed the volume up and power button together. I saw that the battery was at 1%, I put it on standby to conserve battery but it just won't take a charge.
Same issue here with a family members phone, they want to give it to a friend but can't yet because it isn't working.
They got a new phone and left the Z just sitting on a desk. It eventually discharged but now they can't get it going.
I'm trying to fix it for them.
Red LED, no boot, connect to charger and just get a solid red LED. See how it goes I guess. Can't get it to show up when connecting to PC at this stage. Will try with the official Sony tool though.

I have the same issue too...
I read.somewhere in other thread that putting in the usb then press the volume and volume up for 8 swcond, wait for an hour then try restarting.would work.
This had happen to me twice already, and the only remedy seems sending it to sony. Where they would charge it. But it took weeks though.

[Q] Phone bricked, red led flash twice

So I have my Z1 for 5 weeks now and I used some times in my pool in home to take some pictures, I've always been cautious with the flaps and everything, I even immerse it in rice overnight when I use it in water just to be safe. Today I used normally, took some pics with girlfriend, everything worked great, after taking the pictures I left it on the table and about 1 hour later I tried to use it and it was blank (me and the phone were completely dry by that time). If I connect to wall charger or USB the led flash red twice and then blanks. I'll leave overnight charging now but I have no idea what to do. Tried turning off using the red thingy, turning on holding volume up or down but nothing works.
Can anyone help or I will have to send it for warranty?
Oh, and I checked and not a single drop of water entered the phone (apparently).

You seem a little paranoid about water, if water had messed your phone up you probably wouldn't even get a red flashing light (as the motherboard would be fried) so you don't need to worry about water damage.
Firstly, presume everything you had on your phone is now gone. Sorry!
Follow these simple steps:
Press & hold the power button and volume up until it vibrates 3 times, then you can go ahead and try to turn it on. Quote me when you reply so I can see it.
Could you also plug it in to your laptop, does the computer read that a device is being connected?
If that doesn't work, we'll try some other stuff and explore some threads! Lots of links for bricked phones. Sounds like it's bricked..

Good thing it's not water!
Did it for over a minute and nothing happens. I've tried that earlier too.
Plugging it on the PC makes the sound of device connected, the red light turns on for a while (about 2 or 3 seconds, no blinking) and then it turns off with the sound of device disconnected.

PC Companion won't detect phone. Same with Update Service.
Worst case I'll leave it charging for 12 hours. Thanks for the help, I'll come back later with some feedback. I'll probably get in touch with warranty tomorrow morning.

Try all the steps again, otherwise I really not sure what's happened. Some people report days later it comes back on, etc. Hopefully someone else may have an insight to what's happened, but personally I don't think your phone is buggered.
Has this been resolved? I just ran into a similar problem with my week old Xperia Z1 Compact. It was working fine until one afternoon, it was hot and wouldn't turn on. Got the blinking red lights and won't charge. Also won't do anything with the Power and Volume+ Combination.

Dead z1 :(

It seems that my z1 has just given up on life.
I was checking my gmail and the phone switched off. It wouldn't switch on so I tried vol-up and power, it vibrated but did nothing.
Now absolutely nothing will make it show any signs of life, it seems to be completely dead which is weird. No LEDs or vibrations at all, so I guess I'll be returning it :crying:

Even mine was dead for sometime today
Even my phone gave me a shock today... Screen switched off and the phone was not responding.... had to reset it through the sim tray!

Strange. Vol down and power would reset the phone?

I've contacted the ebay seller I bought it from last week regarding a refund or replacement. Should get a reply tomorrow.

I was on 80%! Strangely enough however, the vibration is back when I press vol-up and power. Still no display though.

I had the same issue your having with my rooted Samsung s4. I couldn't get anything. Bought secondary battery... Son took into verizon came on briefly. My programming USB cable rusted out, had to buy a new jib. That didn't work. I just persevered, I found life when I put in the battery and started hitting the power button repeatedly, 15-20 times
Finally it would turn on, used the jib got it into download mode and flashed the ROM with odin again. Still had some issues so I did a reset then re flashed again, re rooted and started loading programs.
Still not sure if it was/is the power button or system change I made with exposed or other such toolت.
Also now using button savior as a preventative measure. As an added bonus I have 3 batteries and a stand alone battery charger.
Please update your thread as status changes. Hope you get it working.

my z1 2 hours ago had died, I solved by connecting it to flashtool with the volume down pressed. I have version .157
I would think faulty battery, had same issue with old s2
No idea what the problem could be, perhaps moisture got into the headphone jack or something and made its way into the phone.
As I said, when I help vol+ and power it would vibrate 3 times to indicate power off however it would show no signs of life when turning it on.
Flashtool wouldn't recognise it nor would PC Companion.
I sent it away to Sony to repair last week - it's currently still with the technician. I'll update the thread as the repair progresses to let you know the outcome! Hopefully it will be a manufacturing error and I won't have to pay for a repair.
I recognize this problem in a slightly different form.
When my battery is completely dead and I try to charge it and turn it on it won't. It gives me the same three vibrations. I let it charge on the fast charger the whole night. Nothing. (0% charge, light stays red all night long.)
Then I reset it (red dot next to SIMtray) (which does nothing, no vibrations) but it works if not connected to the charger (it only vibrates then)
After reset I try to charge it and it goes automatically on but when it goes on it stops charging after splash screen and turns off and stops charging.
Then it's just trial and error. Reset, no reset, manual turn on, turn off, reset with USB connected, without and eventually it charges and I can turn it on.
After that it works fine.

Z1 Sudden Death!

Hello!
Yes, it's right. I guess it's my turn to get the sudden death of my beloved Xperia Z1.
It's dead, but I don't think it's completely dead and I'm hoping for some help from tech navy's around here and from other people who got the sudden death issue so here's what happened:
I woke up early in the morning at around 8 am and the battery was at 9% and I had no time to put it on charger because I'm in a hurry, so I said I'll put it on charger in car same as always. I use the magnetic cable that I removed from the dock (cuz my sis lost my charging cable, I have to use my magnetic one every time) and I almost always charge my phone in the car with that cable. The phone was working perfectly so I locked the screen and connected the magnetic charger and the charging light didn't come on so I wanted to check if it's charging.... and found out that it's dead (no charging LED, not turning on, no Power + Volume up vibration, no nothing) so I went back to the house and put it on my mother's charger (Micro USB) and got a red LED light as if it's charging, but it's not. still doesn't power up and everything and yes, I've tried the reset button near the SIM card, nothing wants to work.
I took it to Sony service center later that day and they said it will take 3 days because of the traffic they're having, and I have no warranty because I bought it on release which is more than a year ago. After 3 days, they told me that it's a motherboard problem and it got water damaged (while the last time I put it in water was about 2 weeks before that day, and he saw that the white thing is red) and it can't be fixed pay some money and take a new one (just phone no boxing no nothing) and I said no thanks and took the phone to another shop and he checked it and told me that he can't fix it.
I cracked open my phone and I can't see any water damage in it, everything seems to be perfectly fine. I've tried everything I could think of, everything I read on the internet, but nothing seems to work, and the pc doesn't even notice that I connected my phone, I've tried connecting it in fast boot, and flash mode, but nothing works it just keeps the red LED light on. Disconnecting the batter didn't help at all.
I called Sony service center and asked them if I can buy a motherboard from them and they said that they don't even have replacement parts for any Z series phone because they're not authorized by Sony to repair the waterproof/resistant Z series phones (The service center here isn't Sony, but it's an authorized service center by Sony) so at that point I lost hope to get it repaired.
All that happened back in January, but now that summer is here, I want to fix it somehow. But I have no clue where to start, and I'm not sure how to confirm that it's the motherboard that's damaged. is there a way to find exactly where the problem is? I have a soldering iron and everything needed to repair the phone, all I need is to know where's the problem! I can buy parts off of internet, and I will if I need to, but I'm not gonna buy a whole motherboard from ebay because I simply can't trust that motherboard.
Sorry for the lengthy post, and thanks for any help you'll give.
Regards,
~J2C
Bump
Bump?
leave your phone for a weed and try to charge it . if your phone still led light I think your battery die not your phone .
Your battery is dead, if you have taken it apart already just buy a new battery or buy a micro usb lithium battery charger from ebay and hook it up to your battery (by itself) I posted about my experience here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/help/red-led-flashes-charging-solution-t3141345 If you have access to voltmeter you can check the battery voltage, it is like 2.6v or there abouts. Your phone will not charge a battery this far gone.

I don't think that the battery is dead, because:
1- I get a STABLE red light when I put it on charger or connect it to PC.
2- I've tried a method that's said to revive a dead battery on a Z1 (or Z series) and it didn't work.
3- If it was really the battery, then this should've worked! But no, When I connect the motherboard with test point properly connected, the PC just doesn't recognize the phone.

I followed all those methods as well and none worked for me either. Measure your battery voltage with a voltmeter, it is the cheapest way to verify if the issue is battery or something else.

Hello!
I finally got access to a multimeter today and checked my battery's voltage and it was about 3V so I can confirm that the problem is not the battery.
It must be some kind of hardware problem, and I don't think that you really did try the test point fix and you just said yea yea bla bla YOUR BATTERY IS THE PROBLEM! No, it's not.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I've charged it, and still not working.
Bumping cuz I want my good ol' Z1 back
I've experienced a "sudden death" once, it was really scary to me.
I've flashed a custom rom, rebooted and went to bed directly without waiting "android is upgrading" or whatever.
The next day I saw that my phone was not opening. There was no red led to indicate low battery, I plugged to charger for some seconds and didn't see a red light to indicate "charging" so it was weird to me. The solution was to charge it for more than 30 minutes and afterwards it went to 1%! Maybe you should try to charge with the cable like normally and wait for a while

Hope it works! 30 minutes was so long and worrying though :silly:

Nope!
You obviously had a dead battery, and I've already left it on charger for 2 continuous days.
I clearly have a hardware problem. Probably a dead chip as the phone died the moment I connected the magnetic charger.

If u disasassembled your phone then simply disconnect battery, connect phone to pc (with disconected battery) with pressed volume button down, if phone working u should see blue led light (flashmode)-if this happen then your battery is fault (maybe not, try to flash stock rom if u see flashmode), if not then it is mainboard.

I don't think that you actually read the first post, but no problem.
The computer doesn't recognize the phone at all, with or without battery. And I've posted a link a couple of posts back that leads to a "hard brick fix" thread and even that didn't work for me.
Anyways, I just tried what you told me to try, but no. No flashmode, no fastboot, no nothing.
