My rooted KFHD refuses to detect my headphones. Music plays fine on the dual Dolby speakers(kudos Amazon), but when I use my headphones(both the around ear and in ear types), the sound still comes out of the normal speakers. I have rebooted several times, both with the headphones in and out whilst rebooting. This hasn't been a problem until an hour or so ago. In fact, the headphones were fine last night. It sounds like software problems which leads me to mention that my multitouch isn't quite right either. The mulitouch seems to go crazy when I ply Minecraft or GTA 3, among others. Anything you guys can tell me?
This was originally posted elsewhere, but now I have put it here. 3 or 4 days hasn't made any difference.
Rooted?

If you're running stock (default stuff, no mods whatsoever) then you can try restoring to factory.
This sounds much more like hardware issues than software. Headphones are very physical - they are detected via the fact that inserting the plug causes a circuit to become closed. Your jack may be damaged if the headphones work elsewhere but no headphones work with the Kindle.
Other headphones do work. I have used several different headphones. The only two differences between the ones that works and the one that doesn't work is that the one that doesn't work is it is around ear and when I plug it into the jack, it doesn't click like the others, but does appear to go in all the way.

As it says, it is in fact rooted. I don't use ROMs so Kinology isn't flashed, if that's the correct usage for that term.

UPDATE:
I haven't had any sign of the issues being resolved. It would be extremely helpful if someone could give me information on Kinology and the issues I am having.
I just recently rooted my KFHD and have loaded CM10.1 on it (07/18 build). Sometimes my unit doesn't detect my headphone either - or rather, it detects it, but it stills outputs through my speakers.
I know this because it has two different volume settings - one speaker setting and one headphone setting. I usually have the headphone setting set a little higher. When I plug in the headphone cables (whether it's to an actual headphone or an aux in to my stereo doesn't matter), the volume changes, indicating it recognizes that something was plugged in. However, it still outputs through the speakers. When I disconnect the headphones, the volume drops back to its original level.
The only way to resolve this is to reboot the tablet. I don't have any idea what is triggering this activity...

So I have looked everywhere and havent really found the answer im looking for. First of all my headphones, also others i have tried including an aux cable dont seem to fit into the nook color headphone jack all the way. This is causing problems hearing sound in both ears, or getting any sound at all. I have to fidget to get it just right. Does anyone have any solution or similar problems? A specific pair that work?

It isn't broken. Just stick the headphone jack in and when it gets stuck just push on it until it goes in
My nook is like that and doing what I stated above will not break your nook or headphones

really?
i found mine to be a bit hard to plug in and unplug but im kind of use to it now, i just thought all nooks were like that
It requires a bit more force to insert and remove than other devices I have, but that also makes them harder to disconnect by accident. /shrug
They do work fine if you insert them all the way rather than stopping at the first click, as the tip slides past the ring contact, which may be what the OP is doing.
Wow... im a crackhead lol. Anyways thanks guys, sorry for wasting your time.

lol no problem it was a valid question and i was wondering the same thing when i first got my nook color, i just accidentally ran into the solution like 1 hour later lol
Yes, the headphone jack is extremely tight on the NC. I feel like I am going to break something every time I am plugging in the headphones. I am sure that they inserted completely. However, out of 5 "plug in and out" cycles, only 1 will yield the full spectrum of the frequencies for me. Specifically, there is no bass, all mids and highs. I have to plug and unplug few times to get sound with bass+the rest. I am not complaining that the bass is weak, there is simply no bass at all until you get a right "fit". I tried 5 different headphones (ranging from cheap iPod headphones to UE TripleFi 10) and different sources (e.g., Pandora, music player, etc), and the result was always the same.
Anybody else with this problem (i.e., complete lack of bass until you find the right "fit")?
3.5mm TRS audio jacks have three contacts, one each for the Right and Left stereo channels and one for ground. A channel is either present or absent. Any bass issues you are experiencing are not due to the jack; it simply is not wired that way.

I am certainly experiencing this issue as well. I've found a way to reproduce it. If you push the plug in fast enough all the way, you can get the plug to produce full sound, but if you push it half way in and wait for NC to change the sound from speakers to headphones you'll be missing some spectrum, after you're hearing broken sound coming out of your headphones, even if you completely push in the rest of the jack, the final results will be missing some spectrum. So the only way to get complete sound is to push the plug in before the NC switches to the headphone output.
Wonder what a pair of the little powered external speakers would sound like?
I'm currently using the carbon rom, but the problem came up with the early kitkat releases. Basically the hd+ speaker seems to work pretty well, but when I plug a pair of headphones / in ear / everything, the audio becomes incredibly bad.
I don't have nandroid backups, sigh. How do I restore the audio out quality?

You could boot into recovery, make a full backup, then try any rom flavor and if you don't like at any time then just restore and continue where you left off. Titanium backup free for quick app restore in any new installed rom if you like it.
Headphones sound normal on cm official feb 4th build. Could be carbon rom.

Thanks, it seems to have worked . If anything bad happens, I'll post here.
Nope, audio problem is still there. I used a pair of big headphones and sound was somewhat better, but when I used the in ear headphones, the bad, noisy quality revealed itself in all its dark magnificence.
So we can somewhat exclude it's a rom related issue, I think.
So the problem did not solve. Any other thoughts?
I had same problem with audio from the phone jack. Made high bitrate mp3 sound like 64kbps stream. I honestly don't know what I did to fix it. I think it was just updating to a newer cm11 nightly build.
hello,i'm experiencing the same problem too.especially when i turn to volume up,i try to fix it using apps like v4a but not a real success so far.i'd like to somehow a fix for this prob.
Hello people. It's somewhat heartwarming to know that there's someone else that has got the same problems. I've, too, tried to fix this with V4A, but without success.
Leapinlar told me that going from jb to kk and getting back can be problematic and we should probably try to wipe system manually (CWM>wipe system).
I'm currently using a Carbon JB ROM. I will try to re-install it today, by performing every single wipe available and report here to let you know the outcome. Wish me luck :silly:
So I did all wipes and installed cm11 but the problem is still there, even wiping system manually. I don't really know what to do

Did you try a different music player? Try something like Rocket Player. Also, maybe you should flash pure stock, just so you can better isolate the problem. If it's still there with pure stock, then it might be a hardware issue. If it isn't there, then you know it's the ROM or some type of app conflict.
I have CM11 nightlies on my HD and notice no audio problems whatsoever. I am pretty picky about audio, love the sound on my HD, and would have gone right back to stock or something else if I found any audio problem with CM11.

NEW DETAILS: sound quality is actually normal. With a pair of headphones I have no problems, BUT when I plug in the stock in-ear earphones from my sony ericsson xperia arc s sound quality lowers significantly.
Being that I study audio engineering and I'm becoming more and more experienced with sound, the sound output is really similar to sound in which there are some huge phase cancellation problems going on.
So the volume of different frequencies lowers significantly as they just get cancelled out of the output, forcing me to raise the volume until I hear a really bad, full of background noise sound.
However, when I use the earphones on my nook, and keep pressed the headset button used to pause/skip tracks or to respond to an incoming call (when I use it on the smartphone), sound goes back to normal! If I release it, sound goes back to being bad.
So, my theory is that when we connect a common TRS connector (like the one used by my headphones) we have no problems with the audio output. However, when we connect a TRRS connector (like the one used by my in-ear earphones), some bad stuff happens, like, bad circuitry stuff.
So I think that the TRRS connector is either not compatible hardware-wise with the nook (wouldn't surprise me, as it wasn't designed to be used as a phone), or the nook software is simply not correctly programmed to handle a TRRS type connector, like the ones used on smartphones

I wonder if your Sony earphones are somewhat proprietary in their wiring. TRRS seems to work fine with a generic pair of Scosche headphones I use on my tablets and Nexus S phone. The button works too, unlike on my 2012 Nexus 7.

I use high end earbuds and Bose headphones, the nook hd+ on cm10.2 or cm11 sounds great. Cleaner than any other android I've used.
Are you at max volume or 2nd to max? Those have been very slightly crackly since verygreen bumped audio gain back in august. those settings are in audio.primary.ovation.so. I edited mine.
I don't use my nook as a phone, seems ridiculous.
Hello,
My Optimus 4X HD outputs a strange high pitched Noise from the headphone output. It basically sounds exactly like coil whine from a graphics card would sound like. I tried plugging it into 3 different amplifiers to check if its really my phone or the amp i was using but turns out its my phone (I also tried my brothers ipod on the same amp with the same cable and the noise was gone). I am running the latest nightly of CM11 and have no apps or tweaks installed which would alter anything sound-related. This is really annoying especially when there is no music playing, can anybody help me?

Three ways:
It's a ROM-related issue. This means every CM11's user - at least on our X3 - should experience that: in my case, I'm not experiencing it, yet. You could make a test, by switching to another ROM, checking if the annoyance is still there.
It's a phone-related issue. This means your phone has a manufacturing defect or something got broken.
Your headsets are broken, instead. You could try them on another platform.
I have exactly the same issue, no matter which ROM do I use, gotta live with that

Turns out the cause of this is the crappy audio chip of the LG, it produces interference noises when the impedance of the amp/device you are plugging it into is higher than 100 ohms.. thats also why it doesnt appear when using headphones as those usually have a lower impedance (mine have 32 ohms for example)...
The issue is that if I plug the HDMI cable out to a screen that the picture comes through fine but no sound does. I have tried the same video just on the tablet speaker and it's fine. I've tried with headphones and it's also fine. I looked at the sound levels within settings and there's no issue there. I checked the HDMI cable out on another device and again no problem. My searches on the problem so far have been fruitless and I'm hoping that one of you fine people will be able to provide me with a solution that will work.
As an extra piece of data, I mentioned that I had tried with headphones and they work fine, but in something either related or unrelated to the HDMI issue when I attach a small travel speaker out to the headphone jack nothing comes out of that either, although powered noise reduction head phones and ear buds work from the same jack with no problem. It's really perplexing. Never had an issue with any of these things (using the exact same speaking/wiring etc) with my Transformer Prime so I'm not sure what kind of compatibility issue there might be. I shouldn't think it would be sound drivers/codecs because the device itself already generates the correct sound.
Thanks in advance guys!

Are you using AOKP? Me and Someone else found this is the case. It seems to be working in cm11 nightlies afiak.
Everything is stock, right out of the box.
apparent solution was to return the tab to the store and exchange it for a new one. No issues now.
FInally got my new Droid Turbo up and running but now I'm experiencing an audio output problem with the headphone jack. I use the Radiopup app and SiriusXM app to stream radio during the day. I generally connect to an aux in on my radio at work. Audio works fine for a bit, but consistently cuts out. It generally will restart and changing the volume on the phone also seems to bring it back. If disconnected from the headphone jack and playing through the phone speaker, things play just fine with no interruptions. This is driving me crazy...any ideas?
Do you have a case that might be preventing the plug from going in the whole way?

I don't have a case on the phone and the sound was definitely working well when it was actually working. I ended up doing a factory reset and it is working for now...hopefully it stays that way.
