I have a Singapore unit 4XHD rooted. Currently, the unit is in the Philippines right now. I wanted to get the latest official jelly bean update via OTA. I already did the unroot using SuperSU. I also cleared cache partition and did a factory reset using the recovery. I still get the error message "your device is not registered yet" when hitting the "Check for Updates"
1. Does the phone need to be connected to Singapore internet in order to update?
2. Is there anything else I could do to bring back to original state?
Thanks

From SG too. SG is still @ v10c i think. So even if you get device registered, it'll tell you your s/w is up to date.

Hey man. It's not possible to get the official jellybean via OTA. You need to manually flash the official rom.
I used this method to update mine.

SG's official 20A firmware I believe is this one http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/swdata/WDLSW/LGP880/ASEABK/V20a_00/V20A_00.kdz

Hey guys,
I'm using a stock S3 LTE (i9305) from my carrier and my device status is "Modified" even though I've never attempted to root it and can't run rooted apps. Can you guys please go Settings -> scroll down to About device at the bottom -> Status -> scroll to the bottom and check whether your "Device status" is Normal or Modified?
I've not flashed any roms nor rooted but it says modified for me. When I tried checking for updates it says my device has been modified. Strangely it occasionally reverts to "Normal" after a reboot. Just wish to see if anyone else has this problem.
There is also no triangle that appears during the boot up sequence. Is my warranty void?
Thanks!
From memory I think this is normal!
Mine (Australian Telstra i9305T) says "Normal" I'm afraid. Maybe the warehouse boyz got to yours

Hi,
Mine also appears as "Modified"
Country: Portugal
Carrier: TMN
I Would assume that this is due to Carrier modifications to add their bloatware. But then again maybe not.
risinhux: I guess you are talking about the error: Your device has been modified. Software update are not available.

Same issue here with Samsung GT-I9305 Swisscom Branded. After a reboot the "modified" is back to "Normal" and you can update.

I have just tried a new method on my rooted gti9305t to check for an ota update without having to factory reset the device.
*go into settings, then apps.
*tap on the tab that says 'all' and scroll down to google services framework.
*tap 'clear data', and then 'force stop'
After this process when you go back to software update it should check for the update, it worked for me.

How do i update to the latest firmware? Do i need to unroot the phone? and if so whats the best and easiest way to? If i can still update to the latest firmware with it still being rooted, how? Thanks!

The problem can be because of rooting your phone.
You can flash back to your Stock rom, the problem will be solved

Also, after doing the update, it's no longer rooted. I didn't really use it for root purposes though.. I may reroot it late on or update it to Tizen.

I know these OTA's can be very hard to undo so if anyone can offer some advice as to whether or not I should update and whether or not I can still keep my root privileges I would appreciate it.
TIA
Do not do another update
It can brick your device..
Flash a Stock KDZ of your version 1st, before updating..

Here's the deal...i would not recommend taking any ota update past version D95920h...this version is ok. There have been 2 additional ota updates since then and in each version T-Mobile/ LG has managed to f#*k us in one way or another. In version D95920m, T-Mobile disabled download mode, which prevents us from flashing a kdz in the event we need to...and in the latest version after that, we have problems obtaining root.

I just received the OTA update notice from my Xperia Z to version 10.6.A.0.454
I have downloaded it and tried to do the update, but it just failed.
I can see my phone can enter the setup screen with the Android robot icon, but when the progress bar starts to run, it just simply reboot itself.
My current version is 10.5.1.A.0.292, rooted, I can't really remember which tool i used to root my device, but I am sure I was not using flashtool and never use that.
Is there any log i can see what caused the fail or what can I do to upgrade?
PCC is not a choice at the moment since my computer don't have enough space in C drive to perform the phone update, but i will be able to try 10 hours later.

Hey all,
Thought I'd let those of you that have an AT&T Tab S 8.4 know that Lollipop has been released today. Happened to be on the AT&T Software update page here: http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425812&cv=820 and noticed it listed the update.
Manually checked for updates on my tablet, it's downloading now. My 8.4 on AT&T is totally stock.
Downloading now... 1.1GB
manually checking shows nothing for me
Mine wasn't too laggy after the upgrade. But as I know from places like XDA usually a very good idea to do a full system wipe which I did.
What I am most thankful for is there is now an option to remove that Samsung screen that has those Samsung widgets that go full page. Can't recall what it is called. Yeah I know could have got rid of that using a 3rd party launcher in 4.4 but so happy Samsung put option there to disable it finally. To get rid of it, long press blank space like you were going to add a widget, then click Home Screen Settings, then uncheck "Content Home Screen".
Has anyone who rooted with kingroot updated? I'm assuming it'll kill root, just curious if I need to unroot prior, or if the update will still install. I'll post the answer tomorrow after I update.
I've had some Samsung devices which will update while rooted, and some that will not.

I'm rooted with Kingroot and it's currently downloading the update. If you load Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, under Security hacks there's a setting for Fake System Status that allows you to set it to Original.
I'll follow up when the download finishes.
Update: The download completed but the install failed and then got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up having to go to the Samsung place at Best Buy to have them re-flash KitKat. Now the tab is telling me I have to wait 24 hours to check for updates. I'm sure everything will be good now that I'm back on a factory image.

When they re-flashed KitKat did it wipe your tablet? The OTA failed me when rooted, failed me after un-installing adaway and un-rooting and removing KingUser. I cannot do a firmware upgrade via Kies 3 as it's not available. I cannot do an emergency firmware recover via Kies 3 as it's not soft bricked. I can't find either the KitKat or the Lollipop firmwares online anywhere... Currently I have a tablet, works fine, I did a factory reset (in the back of my mind knew this wouldn't work) that has a custom status and won't take the OTA.
If anyone knows where I can find the KitKat firmware, or the OTA, please let me know.
Or maybe someone could grab the OTA off their tablet after downloading prior to updating and share the wealth with the community???
Has any kingroot user tried triangle away, unroot via kinguser, and take the OTA?
Also just realized that if I can fail the OTA, I can obviously download it... Where do I grab it from if I wanted to flash it with odin or sideload?

OTA came down successfully while not rooted. The reflash at Best Buy didn't wipe it.
As far as I know, the factory images for the AT&T versions aren't available anywhere, or at least I've been unable to find them. They obviously exist because I'm pretty sure the guy at Best Buy used Kies to flash with an image that's available to him from Samsung.
I re-rooted last night in the attempt of using triangle away to clear customs status, then un-rooting. This was odd because device status still shows custom but download mode shows official and Knox is 0.
While I was briefly rooted again I downloaded the OTA in the hopes of copying it to my PC and updating via ADB Sideload... Couldn't find it. If anyone knows where Samsung puts these I'll grab it and post it to share.

Turns out there is a imei problem with the tablet that is preventing the download. My imei number is paired with a IPhone 4. Anyway will take a few day to fix then the upgrade should work.
I get the same. I wiped my device hoping for a different outcome, and still no update.
I found this in the thread below.
It is an old tread but I'll comment anyway. SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version. Both Hardware (CPU/GPU) and comms modules are different. So 805 LTE (which has Lollipop) firmware won't work for 807 (no Lollipop is currently available nor Samsung plans to release soon).

John.
After not being able to take the OTA after rooting, even after un rooting, not being able to find the OTA and sideload (not in /cache), and not able use Kies or Odin I finally took it to the Samsung kiosk at my bestbuy.
They reflashed 4.4.2, didn't wipe anything, and immediately downloaded and successfully installed the lollipop update after getting home and on WiFi.
Just don't mention that you rooted ;')
