[Q] trouble in installing any file from sd card in recovery menu - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..
i want to upgrade my phone from android 2.2 to ice cream sandwich or whatever might b possible..
and i am not much of a tech friendly person.. but have got the basic idea to upgrade from net
My phone doesnt allows me to install anything from sd card or access its contents when it is in android system recovery mode.
First it says "APPLY SDCARD: UPDATE.ZIP".. even when i have'nt copied any .zip file into sd card. .
and when selected.. it says
FINDING UPDATE PACKAGE
OPENING UPDATE PACKAGE
E: CAN'T OPEN SDCARD:UPDATE.ZIP
(no such file or directory)
INSTALLATION ABORTED.
.. be the file copied in sd card or not..
please help..!!

Sounds like you are selecting the install sdcard/update.zip option.
You need to use select zip from sdcard option.

no no no.... FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO UPDATE TO GINGERBREAD, IT'S COMPULSORY, IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BRICK YOUR DEVICE...
To update to GB you need to flash a official firmware via Odin, or update it using Kies
Once you've done it, you could flash a custom JB rom using CWM 5.0.2.6. FIX

well my fault, first of all, you don't need a sdcard to update your device from Froyo to Gingerbread via Odin or via Kies
If your device can't read your sdcard, format it, use a usb adapter to farmat your sdcard, maybe it's corrupted

Either the rom is not the IncS version or the file was damaged during download possibly from using a dl manager. Just try a different rom.

OP might be right. What I have experienced with my IS is that every single ROM I install, it never boots into the newly flashed ROM.
I have got S-Off, obviously. THX for asking.
I gained S-Off via revolutionary method, am able to flash any CM7 nightlies, it boots fine, but as soon as I flash any other Sense ROM, I dont get my phone to boot into the ROM.
When I flash the ROM, it finishes, atleast it displays the message at the end, and then it reboots, and stuck at the HTC Logo.
I pull out the battery, relaunch Recovery again, reload either CM7 or the Default Stock ROM using nandroid backup and get the phone to work... but custom ROMs are impossible to flash and boot into.
Any inputs by anyone?
I don't think I haven't followed the S-Off method incorrectly as I am able to flash CM7 and I also have got Root Access.
Thx in advance.
Cheers!!!

Hey mate, did you check the md5 sum matches?
In CWM:
Format System
Format Data
Format Cache
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Then Flash you rom, reboot and wait for it all to install.
Are you wiping the dalvik cache and doing a full wipe before installing? And have you checked to see whether you have signified checking on or off?

I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one confused by those instructions at first . My first assumption when reading all these posts were that V4 V6 and V7 were hardware versions of the Revo and you were suppose to download the Gingerbread TOT in correlation to your hardware. Here's what You need to know. They are just software update versions.
V4 and V6 are Froyo
V7 is Gingerbread.
Install V7 and you'll be all set
got it worked out

1. You have to get go to the bootloader in you phone (tackball+vol-down+power) , when connected to your computer and then run blackrose from your computer.
2. Then you have to update the Blackrose partition table sizes to match that which is required by BCM ICS. Refer this thread for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366897
Btw, have you partitioned your SD card to have an sd-ext?

ok fine. so u have to start from beginning.
first head over to blackrose thread in dev section and download the files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270589
turn on usb debugging in ur fone
connect ur phone to pc while the phone is booted normally.
open the downloaded folder and run blackrose.exe and follow the on screen instructions. then blackrose will be installed in ur phone.
nw u need to change ur hboot as per the rom that u r going to flash.
u can do that by using blackrose.exe itself or u can follow this thread for easily changing hboot via recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637166

you can partition ur sd card in recovery or else you can partition it wid a pc using software like MINITOOL PARTITION WIZARD. remember to back up ur data before partitioning.
wat recovery are u using? use 4ext.
its best to have 1 gb ext. you can search for it in youtube

Boot into recovery, connect your phone to computer, mound sdcard. Its under mounts and storage in cwm.Now your computer will show your sdcard.Copy your rom.zip and flash it with recovery as usual.
Why dont you justtry to flash a stock rom? Then, once its running you can root it and flash anything you want trough cwm...

This confused the sh1t outta me. Why is Samsung so damn complicated? So there are some ROMs you have to have a certain recovery to flash? My god, with HTC, once you have recovery, you flash whatever the hell you want. I got my mom a GNex for mothers day (even though I hate Samsung) and intended to root it and keep it up to date for her. But all this crazy talk about having to use certain modems (whatever the hell that is) with certain recoveries and certain ROMs, wow on a Dec device? So confused and disappointed. .
Jesus. With HTC, once you got recovery, you flash whatever radio, ROM, and kernel you want. None of the trick secret Sammy BS. Unbelievable since it's supposed to be a dev device.
Any help with Sammy always welcomed.
