Does xperia z has oleophobic coating or any kind of coating?
From experience of xperia T, scratch easy with stock screen protector, taking off screen protector attracts finger prints and smudges. Also hard to get off unless use glass cleaner. The glass has a resistant vs oleophobic coating.
With Galaxy S3 oleophobic coating, its smooth and easy to get finger prints off without glass cleaner.
It will be a deal-breaker for me, as much as i love the design and material on xperia z.
Some kind gentleman take off screen protector and tell me how is the glass it self feels like? does it feels like the xperia T?
I dont care about which glass is stronger, i want a smooth screen without screen protector.

They apply a shetterproof film on the screen. If you don't want it - you can replace it with any other screen protector - or apply a second one on it. It doesn't affect looks or screen responsivness - so what's the problem here ?
Jeez... I think I might cancel my pre-order. How could they get this so wrong?!

This video is about Xperia T. There is no evidence that Xperia Z is the same other than "she said so".
Also, a shatterproof film is suddenly a bad thing...i'm confused

If you've been using a mobile phones which include a oleophobic coating for 5 years its quite a backwards step to use one without. The screen is the interface to the eye and the finger after all. Did you see the way that screen protector got scratched?
Personally I don't like screen protectors, for others that don't mind then all is good
Some people like salted nuts, others dry roasted. Nothing too confusing I hope! :silly:

I honestly don't care as i always use a screen protector and am quite used to them. If i can have both antishatter and antiscratch protectors on at the same time, without compromising display's clarity and responsiveness - it's even better.
Having just glass would be nice - but i don't believe in Gorilla Glass anymore. Had 3 phones with GG1/2 and they all got scratched very easily before i started to use protectors - so yeah, if you don't like screen protectors, Xperia Z might not be the best option as it most likely will scratch without one due to not-so-scratch-resistant antishatter film.

TBH the best thing is to go into a "3" store and have a look. They already have them on display in some stores.

You must be a school child with comments like that
If you look carefully in videos on youtube it would seem that the back of the handsets attract more prints. Perhaps the front and back use different layers on the glass.
Bare in mind these are all pre-production models.

Yes it does have it on. You can see it here:
3 UK Hands on
I'm pretty sure that all Sony phones have had it on though.

Screen looks and touch experience is my problem. I had both, xperia T, S3 and note 2. S3 screen looks very nice, feels very nice and smooth. I use swype, so i swipe alot. Using xperia T is nice too, but its not the same experience as oleophobic coating on it(S3).
If xperia z has the same glass as the xperia T, then its a deal breaker for me.
Hoping Xperia Z will be using a different glass and some kind of coating under that stock screen protector.
Note- I dont use screen protector, so replacing stock screen protector doesnt work for me.
Waiting patiently for a retail version Screen review.
Here's a good durability test from a different sony device. Hmmm seems pretty durable to me....
This negates the Xperia T video posted few posts back.

note screen size and device name Xperia ACTIVE
Still note that Xperia is still Xperia. Unless Sony decides to downgrade their screen technology... And size may affect durability but not in that type of tests.

Come on guys, it did ruin Xperia Z for me too. BTW gorilla glass's purpose is to prevent shattering. Oleophobic layer is done above it and that catches scratches. Same vlogger did a detail video explaining Gorilla Glass's myths of being scratch proof.

From all the prototype xperia z, it seem like it uses the same screen as xperia T. Hopefully it doesnt use the same screen as xperia T. I had both phone and xperia T is disappointing. If its the same screen then its a deal-breaker. Still waiting for retail, Somehow xperia z upgrade there phone, dont put on stock protector and put a layer of oleophobic on it, they they score gold. If not, then lots of people will be disappointing, unless your a screen protector type.
I'm in doubt buy a protective film to use the Xperia Z, but I'm afraid to lose touch sensitivity and screen brightness too!
The anti-shatter that comes standard is very easy to scratch? I mean just scratch with normal use of the fingers!
On my Xperia S, the original film it was only scratching with normal use! I removed the film and left without!
But the Xperia Z to remove the film, the Sony comes out soon too and I did not want to lose it!
1) You left without anti-shatter film, only with him or bought another protective film?
2) Someone found to sell a new film with the logo of Sony?
You could remove the file to give it a cleaner look and then you can put on a screen protector that doesn't scratch like spigen ultra thin screen protector. But if you don't want to lose the logo put another screen protector on top. You won't lose screen responsiveness unless you get really bad quality screen protectors.
Press thanks if I helped

I bought Zagg Invisible Shield, is it good?
I have a minimal scratch on the back , used the phone very carefully but I don't know how I got it ( it's very small but it is) so it's scratches very quick ( at least in my case ) so I bought a film for the back. I will buy for the front too , but I will wait a little bit cause here in my stupid country we don't have alternatives

I already had a few small scratches
I suggest you try one of the various cheap hard plastic screen protectors that are available. This cost only a few dollars so you can change them once every one or two months. That's what I do with my Note II
I think the point wawyed was making was your device is not scratched, the pre-installed film is.
There are quite a few threads on this exact topic already.... you can remove the pre-installed film if you wish - but you may loose your Sony logo. There are a few good replacement films out there (Spigen)
Bottom line: remove the stock film and replace, or leave the stock film - and put yet another one on top of it.

I read some informations on the net, but I` think the pre-installed one is a different kind of film
I was thinking about using a normal film over the pre-installed one

I had applied 3M Vikuiti ADQC27 to Xperia Arc S, S, T, TX and I ordered one more set for tomorrow when I get XZ. I was very pleased with this screen protector, but tomorrow I'll decide on which one to apply them: 3M or the 2 that come in the package (I ordered extra package with dockingstation, smartTags and screen protector). And yes, I put it over the preinstalled one :good:.
Where did you ordered the extra package?
get a set of these and be done with it!

The back of my phone has a couple of hairline scratches - I presume it's because of the bolts near my jeans' pocket. But the screen is fine so far. :victory:
Do you think that will be available a screen protector like the anti-shatter film that Sony put on the phone? It's scratching very easy and I'm thinking that if something similar will be available then I will remove the one from Sony and put that one. On other Xperia phones is available this kind of screen protector?

I think the chance of that happening is 1%, but I am surprised that companies haven't brought screen protectors with the sony logo/text.
Also a thing Sony could do is to bring out a services to re-apply the anti shatter sheet for us, specially since it scratches so easy.
Anyways, the reason why I don't see it happening is because the anti shatter sheet is being applied by a device, it needs to fit perfectly or it might lose it's function. Screen protectors can be applied by men, because it's only there to protect the device from scratches and such, not to stop the screen from shattering, even though normal screen protectors also do that, but on a smaller scale.
1. There is no screen protector with Sony logo because of patent / copy rights. It would be very expensive to get the right to use the logo.
2. Sony already offers the service to replace the anti shatter film. Costs about 20 bucks
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9100 mit Tapatalk 2
20 bucks is not much but I think is not ok to charge me that money for a piece of anti shatter film that scratches very very easily, I've put an cheap film and I will look for a better one in the future to preserve this anti shatter , but extremely scratching film from Sony. That's a huge minus for them. A gorilla glass would be a perfect solution, too bad that Sony didn't think of that. But I still love the phone
I'd prefer to completely remove the anti shatter film, but something is still holding me back. Maybe it's because I payed some hard earned money for that thing, whatever don't wanna argue about that here.
I did not put any other protection film on my XZ. I think it's odd to have two on you display and to be honest there is nothing compared to real glass. the feeling is way better... still don't wanna argue 'bout that.
so I have no protection on my display and I do not use a case... "this guy is an idiot" ...I will buy one soon; I promise. For now I use a little bag where I used to keep my sunglasses. Btw Krussel has some nice covers. "get to the point dude!" ...I keep my XZ in a sidepocket of my jacket and there is nothing else in that pocket and stil I got a few scratches on my display. It does not bother me at all. You have to look very closely to see them. What I am trying to say is that the anti shatter film scratches very easy and as far as I remeber there is gorilla glas underneath... so close, yet so far. I can live with that... for now. Someday I will take it off anyway. I just love my plain black XZ without any logos. LOL, I used to put a little piece of dark tape on my old s2, just to cover up the logo.
Hi, do guys use a screen protector for the rear of the Z1 or just leave it as is? I have the White Z1 and don't want scratches on the real of the z1.
Thanks!

In the "Xperia Z1 Accessories" forums.
Like you said, you don't want scratches. So just go ahead and apply one. The default anti-shatter film pre-applied to the back isn't very scratchproof.
What's the best way to applie this screen/back protectors!?. I'm worried about spending money, and then making a hash of things! :-S

I dont use a case and any screen protector.
Cases will increase the dimensions which is already long enough and screen protectors will affect the display effect which is already not good enough
No issues here with screen protector on display...

hello xda , :fingers-crossed:
i wanna buy a new phone and iam admiring the xperia z1 , but iam a little anxious about some things , one of them is the screen as it is not Ghorilla Glass , i had a samsung galaxy s2 and it was really resistant against scratches , so i dont want to pay lots of money on a phone which could be scratched so easily.
so i just wanted to ask people here who already have the Z1 about their experience with that phone's screen and their overall rating to the phone and its camera, cause i've read many posts that the camera wasn't like what they expected
thanks in advance
Check out Glass-M. They make a tempered glass screen protector for the z1 for like 17USD, mines in the mail. I always put a screen protector as soon as possible, even a 5$ urethane protector can easily stop a scratch that would be ridiculously expensive to repair. Gorilla glass wont save you. Stock glass feels better then urethane, but i can always replace a damaged screen protector.
The camera is usually covered by a sapphire lens i believe, which is much harder then the glass screen and doesn't need to be protected. Just keep your diamonds in a different pocket and you wont scratch it.
My advice, get a screen protector for it before you take it out of the box. Mine was scratched after 2 days, compared to all the other phones I've had (HTC One, SGN, SGSIII etc) I have never had a scratch on the screen. The glass itself is tough, it's just the anti shatter film they put over the top of it which scratches easily. It's like having a cheap screen protector on but they say you void your warranty if you pull it off to replace it once it's scratched.
Go with a tempered glass one. I love the phone, just not the cheap film they put over it.
thanks for your fast response guys
Is this Tempered Glass projected to being scratched and i'll need to replace it several times ? or it is a scratch-resistant glass which will act like gorilla glass maybe ?
and is the camera worth it ? one of my main reasons of choosing that phone is its camera , but i've read many posts which say that camera sucks , and another posts which say that camera is great !! anybody here has any actual experience with this camera ?!
no one has tried z1 or has faced what iam telling or what :crying:

The camera is good, just not mind blowing. If you take picture in good light pictures will be fine. In the end its still a small sensor and will not replace my full frame camera. The Glass-m is made of gorilla glass and is pretty tough. The reason for putting one on as soon as you get it is due the anti shatter film sony insists on putting on. This ASF scratches very easily
