I will be receiving my new device today and I am having a bit of a dilemma. For the first time, I am considering running my device stock un-rooted as I really like to have the skygo app which will only function on an un-rooted device. The problem is, I know the 3 dot menu will really do my head in.
I am coming from the hox + were this menu can be disabled without root so, firstly, could somebody tell me how prevailent this is at present? Are there still a lot of apps with this problem?
The ideal solution for me would be to have skygo working on a rooted device but I have searched and searched and have not been able to find a solution for this. Is there one?
Also, perhaps a noob question, is it possible to root the device, remove the 3 dot menu then un-root it and still have this modification on place?
Any observations and help would be grately appreciated.
This is also the main reason I rooted. There are still a LOT of apps with the 3 dot menu and it is unbelievably annoying to see that black bar so often. I don't know why htc didn't just leave the option to long press back for menu in the stock Rom.

Yes, the 3 dot menu is there for many apps. Yes, it is annoying. However, seeing as the screen is an decent size and I have always had the 3 dots since owning the phone, I am used to it now, it doesn't bug me all that much.
Also, I think there is a decent chance this will be fixed when htc send out an update.
Sky go just recently updated to include working on the HTC one, who knows how long it will last.... Which is why I would say to stick with Unrooted for now if you are a sky go user

Since you already have a HOX+, enable the on screen menu & check the apps you frequently use if they are updated & don't need the menu button anymore. This way you will know if it will bother you or not.
Root the stock rom on your device, disable 3 dot menu, remove the Superuser binaries, install SkyGo. Works a treat!

If someone would like to confirm this as working....
I'd be more than happy with such a solution.
Where I put "Works A Treat" it should read "Should work a treat". I haven't tested it on this device but I had a similar problem getting SkyGo to work on my Nexus 10. I had to root first, edit the build.prop to think it's a different device and then unroot. Worked perfectly.

Im keen to get SkyGo working as well so I will flash back to stock and test. Will report back in half hour or so.

Well it kind of worked. You no longer get the doesnt work on a rooted device message however you do get the Unsupported Device message. This is because SkyGo doesnt officially support the One yet. A news report I just read suggests that Sky are increasing there supported devices next week to include the One and the S4.
I would suggest waiting until SkyGo is updated next week and then try the above method.
Nope, sky go now does officially get support for htc one. I downloaded it yesterday, it mentions this phone in the most recent updates. And I tried it out for a few seconds, streamed countdown fine.
Just to confirm I am on an Unrooted htc one.

Yes you will lose root if you take the OTA. The biggest change that was made between 2.12.405.7 and 2.30.405.1 is that they have fixed all of the temp root exploits. So not only will you lose root, but you will not be able to re-root until a new root exploit is found.
Thank you for quick response.

Scrub that, Picasa add in stops working. As useless as it ever was.
Pretty fed up with HTC, they are nowhere near the Company they used to be. Flaky software, useless support, the farce of HTCSENSE.
Horrible.
After reading a few threads about this update, all I ever see is people querying and *****ing about losing their S-OFF. Is there an actual change list available so I see what exactly has been done?

Surely you cant update if your S-OFF anyway...atleast I cant!
text prediction(suggestion) in portrait mode not working
Hi guys, I have successfully updated to this version.
However the most frustrated thing is when I am typing text in portrait mode, no matter what app (web browser, calendar, message, map, or 3rd party app, etc) I am typing in, the word prediction (suggestion) does not work anymore (or it does, but I could not see all the possible suggestions as I used to if I misspell something, then it just automatically picked one suggestion to replace my word)!! Only when I change to landscape mode they start to appear.
This never happened before this update, and also, before, when I typed on the text box, the keyboard would appear as well as the cursor positioning where my text will display. So I could still see part of the original screen of the app. But now, the text box basically expands a lot so I could not see anything else on my screen apart from the white, ugly, big text box which takes more than half of my screen and the keyboard, nothing else!!
I am wondering if anyone else who updated to this version has the same issue. This is bad, bad, and bad!!
Cheers!!

I have a Droid Bionic that just got the ICS update and I have noticed an app that has no name and is 32kb in size. As I am generally picky about what I install, I checked the permissions of this app, and found it is pretty intrusive, even though only three permissions. It has modify/delete sd card contents and delete all application cache data.
I have never seen this on any of my previous phones (DX, DX2, and Bionic) prior to this ICS update. Can anyone tell me what this is and if disabling it will cause the phone to not work correctly?
For the record, it is not a rooted phone. Mostly stock with launcher and keyboard apps only for customization.
Thanks
Tim

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same thing... really bothers me. It appears to be part of the system as you can't uninstall it, only disable it
I don't know, but I am disabling it to test if it will affect my phone in any way.
But I would say it's possible that this is a patch for Jelly Bean, as they are working on putting it on the Bionic right now. Perhaps if somebody can check the app's code, than we'll know what it's doing there.
I was going to ask about this file but found this thread. I just disabled it - let' see what happens.

I was hoping to bump this thread as this un-named app showed its ugly face on my unrooted Droid Bionic. I have called VZW and Motorola and after hours on the phone between the 2, they both said the same thing, factory reset!
I tried to clean off my sD Card, and again, factory reset, and again... there it is!
Any progress on this? It seem nefarious in light of all the privacy concerns that have recently come to light.
Thanks all,

If you install "rootappdelete" from the google apps. It is at the top of the list in System Apps.
Open it and you will find it is a Verizon installer... VZWInstaller.apk... 45.62KB
Located in /vendor/app/
Remove at your leisure. But, You may not be able to get new Verizon apps or updates. The only useful app I have from Verizon is Emergency Alerts. I live in Florida... storm central.

Ok guys and gals. Had my htc one for a few days now. Unlocked the bootloader today, installed twrp custom recovery so far and running stock.rom at the moment. Now the question i have is:
Like on my HTC Evo 3d you could replace the task buttons on the bottom of the screen up from the soft keys. Im not seeing how to do that now.
Any one have a clue about how to go about this? I removed a few apps and disabled a few for example the stock internet browser. And it took the task icon off the bar but i cant seem to replace it with anything. I am adding a attached screen shot pic for a better idea
I do appoligize if this has already been asked before. I have been the past while trying to make sure it hasnt been

After reading xda member "Clifford's" find that his ONE connected to his GEAR with almost full functionality (thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468522) I had to do some investigations. S-voice, according to him, was the only feature that failed to function, even after installing s-voice. For you knowledge, his phone is running OMJ's 4.1.2 ROM, its not stock.
Test phone: AT&T HTC ONE (unlocked)
The following are the Roms I have tried and their outcome was exactly the same:
Gear manager.apk: first part of install completes. however, none of the 19 additional files install... not does the installer stop trying to complete
Galaxy Gear: Connects to phone for code verification, once code is confirmed, phone/device disconnect. the error is device exception.
ROMs
CM 10.1.3
Android Rev 22.0
Android Rev GE 4.0
CleanRom 5.0
CleanRom 6.0
Maximus HD 14.0
Maximus7 2.0.0
TrickDroid 8.0.0
ViperOne 2.1.0
So, needless to say, I was not only skeptical about the previous xda member's findings...I was frustrated.
So I got on the horn with some of my Dev friends and we found:
RayGlobe 8.0
HOLY S*#T! Gear installed along with the additional files. Now for the real test............(drum roll please)
Samsung Galaxy Gear paired with an HTC ONE!!!!!
Functionality:
All call functions work. Send, receive, deny, speaker/mic, end call, etc
Notifications work, but are slow
Can change watch faces
Find my gear/phone works
Not functioning (so far, will play more tomorrow):
Weather
S-voice
Media player
Gear manager is 50% functional. S-apps begins to load, but fails. Pressing on the settings button crashes GM (does restart/reconnect)
So, "I think", Sammy is intentionally keeping this device in the S-ecosystem. Why, you ask? ...............good question.........Sammy?
I am hoping with the above information, devs can work on how we can make this at least 80%-90% functional...?
Thanks for the information

The Gear acts as a BT headset and in most cases is just relaying info from the host apps of the (Samsung) phone it's paired with. You'll never get the Gear to work (properly) with a HTC phone for the same reason TW won't run (properly) on a HTC phone. Or Sense on a Samsung phone for that matter. HTC and Samsung's proprietary frameworks run too deep. And the Gear won't work on Samsung phones running AOSP for the same reason. S Voice on the Gear is so tightly interwoven with S Voice on the phone you can't clear data or disable it on the latter once the phone is paired with a Gear. And S Voice requires a network connection to work and the server does a device ID check so even if someone ports S Voice to an HTC phone the server will deny it access.

Thanks for the thanks!
Most of the above roms are 4.3. However, this seems to make no difference as I have now confirmed functionality on 4.1.2, 4.2.2 and 4.3.
The most stable rom, so far, is TrickDroid 8.0. Pretty much exactly the same r result as RayGlobe. Calls can be answered /rejected, speaker /mic are working (however, two ppl have complained about quality of my voice), call log works perfect, as does the contacts app. Find my gear /phone also works without a hitch.
I have tried multiple different ways to get s-voice to work. A couple of the roms have s-voice already built in. RayGlobe was the better rom in this respect... S-voice would run it evoked from the watch, but then went to "must agree to terms..." error (I had already agreed). But if you pressed the SV key on the phone, the watch mic takes the input.
Biggest issue... Last night when I very first got the gear.apk to install on the RayGlobe rom, I received an Gmail which was notified by the watch. Since then, I have yet to receive any notification, text/email/FB/twot etc on any rom.
The "settings" section of the Gear Manger is completely unusable. Every time I try to open settings, GM goes to black screen and crashes. My apps is pretty much the same.
All in all, I really don't care about s-voice... It would be nice to link it to G-now!?!? But if I can get the notification part working, and maybe figure out how to clean up the watch's microphone output... I would be happy.

1 do you have ANY of the notification functions working?

This is great, although we need to try identify and isolate what exactly allows the gear to pair up on certain roms and why it doesnt on others.
If its simply a matter of the APK's the gear manager is requesting to install, We could simply install those manually iv managed to extract them from the gear manager apk if anyone is interested in trying.
We all realize that the touchwiz dependent features will require touchwiz obviously, in saying that tho theres no reason why they cant be replaced with third party applications in the future.

Does anyone know any of the devs from RayGlobe? This is the only rom I getting this error, "Need to agree to T&C". When you install the sv.apk, whether you run from phone or watch the first time, no T&C request.
I wonder if that is added back in, this ONE rom could work. This rom has shown the most functionality potential so far.
However, I am worried about the notifications. Very inconsistent. No one has yet to come up with any ideas. i have pretty much converted a ONE into an S3 with the apks installed. Weird using touch-wiz on an HTC.
I don't have access to a note 3. Here's my thought, can someone who has an N3 create a DL of the apks that gear attaches itself to. Mainly the notifications, s-voice, and weather. PLEASE.... Would really be a big help.

I have access to all of these. I put them all on my htc One but they reference the wrong directory so notifications etc dont work. i need someone who can unpack, re-write, and repack some bits of the apks.
Hi ya, i think i had 5.3.2.0 and rooted it via rootjunky's tool (kingroot then supersu) and flashed back to 5.3.1. blocked OTA updates and went for the custom Nexus ROM, kept coming up with google errors so dumped that and tried CM12.1 and still got various other errors so read on one of rootjunkys feeds that someone just gave up and kept 5.3.1. and just removed the "crap" as he called it so i have come to the conclusion i'm going to do that as well.
So as i stand right now i am at 5.3.1. rooted blocked OTA updates and kingroot has gone and supersu is in, playstore is due to go on via the 5thGenSuperTool and change the stock launcher to Nova, that is as far as i can go on my own, been hunting around on here for threads that help remove the unwanted Amazon which to be honest is all of them i think but i'd like to keep Calender/Calc/clock/camera app but even some of these need you to register the tablet before i can go any further, so as it stands right now what is best for me should i register the tablet or not, if yes should it be in real name or moody name?
Also i see mention of lock screen and adverts, sorry for the next question the lock screen is that the screen you come to first where you have to swipe upwards to see icons? And why have i not seen any adverts yet, is it because i have not registered the tablet yet?
Also can you suggest any other threads for me to look at regarding getting rid of the rubbish or bloatware just stuff i don't need, i have come across the following but just wondering if i have missed anything you can think will help me in my case.

Now i'll be the first to admit i have not read all of these threads yet, that is my plan next but i just wanted to see if i'm missing anything special that you think i should know before i go any further and also unsure what registering the tablet will do.

No ROM is perfect - custom or stock. Installation errors/omissions are a leading contributor to less than satisfactory outcomes. Post your experiences w/supporting detail; someone will try to help.

I'm having no issues with the ROM itself SuperSu has been a nightmare to update, i tried TWRP but for the life of me every thread i try to use (here and elsewhere) it fails to works and just lease a blank screen, if i remember last time my problems came with gapps and wondering what version of gapps i should use i have seen pico spoke about but can't even get that far, had the damm thing since black friday and to be honest i'm getting fed up with it

Supersu has been updated and for the life of me i have no idea why but i don't care it's done, now to look at gapps
Well just to close this down, i have it working now my major problem was trying to install gapps v6 on it but once i had worked out my error she is fine, i just want to say thanks to everyone who has helped me get it sorted once and for all.
