[Q] Microphone dead? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
So, a few days ago, I was calling people and nobody would hear me, at all. No matter what, it was completely mute. I even tried it myself with my home phone...mute! So I guessed it was a microphone problem.
I have tried looking up a lot of options but I can't seen to find a "microphone volume" option, so I thought that was not the problem as it was not an actual option. So I took my Razr I to the Motorola authorized technical assistance. 10 days after leaving the phone there, I got it back from technical assistance, and they claimed that it was an electrical problem, which in turn had been solved. So I got to test it, and...the microphone was mute!!!!!!!! Then I called Motorola costumer service, and I was oriented to take it to the authorized technical assistance again.
I mean, what the hell is that? What is that technical assistance that does not test the devices before getting them back to the costumers?
To sum it up, I took a quick look at Google and I noticed that my problem is not that uncommon. Anyways, tomorrow I'm taking it to the assistance again.
Did anyone else in here had the same problem? I searched Razr I forum here on XDA but did not find any matches.
Regards,

Battery Kill - Vibrate latching? Problem!

Ok, so after loading "RUU_Kaiser_ATT_WWE_1.60.502.3_22.45.88._07_1.27.14.09_Ship.exe" for a couple days, tweaking a few things and adding a few software packages...
Yesterday, after leaving my desk for a while with the phone on the desk and unplugged after recent sync with desktop....
I come back and find my Tilt is really hot and totally dead!
Later in the day, last night and today...I noticed that on some email notifications, the vibrate latches in and won't stop until I wake up the screen!
Anyone else seen this? Need to decide whether to restore to factory condition, retest etc...or send back as defective.
Cheers and THANKS!
this has happened to me several times, I finally went off and set email alerts off which is annoying. This also happened on my other HTC phone 8125
This has happened a couple of times for me too on the totally stock ATT ROM.
Annoying but, since it's always with me, it's never gotten worse than "annoying".
Same problem here, since I don't want to disable the vibrating alert I just send a mail to HTC asking for a solution.
Hope they'll anwser.
I'll keep you posted.
Percentages...
Hmm, with these numbers (already)...it is difficult to determine if this is a quality control issue with a small percentage failure. Need some more replies and a comment from HTC!
I'm already inclined to tell AT&T to send me another one, especially since this issue has been experienced with the ship ROM, and it is less than 2-weeks old.
Also original rom and I had the problem from day one.
It's night over here in Belgium, but I won't wait from an answer from HTC. First thing tomorrow I'll call the shop where I've got it.
I've had this a couple of times on my UK Vario 3. It actually happened today.
The problem seems to span different roms and batches.
pjam
I've also have this problem so like most people I disabled the vibrate notification which isn't a fix but better than having it none stop vibrate. Hope they fix this for the Vario III as well as Kaiser
solution from a HTC dealer
I just called the shop where I purchased mine, and first thing the guy asks, "do you really need the vibrating warning? can't you just use a sound alert or something?"
After explaining that I really want it to work as mentioned, he went to ask.
When he came back he tried to convince me that it's normal with WM6. It's a feature. When asked wheter it's normal it sometimes works "correctly" en sometimes it keeps vibrating, he answered it's strange but normal.
Explaining that the battery gets really hot and so didn't help either. He was convinced it's normal. But he gave me a number of HTC. Not a Belgian nr so I'll first wait for an anwer via email till this afternoon.
Anwser from HTC
I just called to HTC Europe, and the woman on the phone said "oh that's not good".
But a solution? I'll have to send it in for repair.
Still waiting for an answer on my email I send to HTC. And if I'll send it in for repair I'll first call again for a better anwser than "that's not good".
But sorry no real solution yet!
seems like this is getting worse and worse for us. I am experiencing the same issue. I have had the phone for about a 3 weeks now. The first week everything was fine. Then this sporadic occurance of the steady vibrate with new text and email messages. It seems like the first 2 vibrating pulses go through fine but it gets hung up on the last one. Full stock att ship rom here as well.
I'll get after AT&T for a replacement tomorrow (GMT -5) and post their response.
Well, not much to report except AT&T gave no fuss and new Tilt is "in the mail". I would suggest even those who are outside the "return for new one" window, get after HTC and/or their provider to replace any units with this "defect"...
Maybe threaten class action... Good luck to all.
I called back to HTC support, explained the problem again. Also said that I'm not the only one but they are not aware of the problem. I'll have to send it in for repair.
So I called the repaircenter, and it would take 2 or 3 weeks.
Don't want to send him in for so long, so for now I'll try to live with it. Still hoping for a bugfix one day.

did u walk into an att store? or make a phone call to customer support? In either case how did you go about proving this was infact an issue?
I called AT&T premier phone support from a shopping mall while waiting for my better half to shop...it took about 1 minute to explain the issue.
Basically, I told them my phone needed to be replaced because it was defective and explained the manifestation (sometimes when email alerts are set to vibrate, the vibration does not stop and if I let it keep going, it kills the battery fast and overheats the unit).
I further explained that I researched the problem online and that is appears a small percentage of users are affected by the issue so that it is likely a manufaturing QA issue.
I also suggested that they send me a new unit versus a refurbished one, at least the first time around. They responded, "Oh, of course we will be sending you a new unit".
It took another two or three minutes on hold for the order to be setup, and I had an email in my Tilt inbox before we disconnected.
Overall the experience was excellent.
Same problem here. Mine is a Hong Kong unit that is HTC branded. Using it here in Canada with Rogers.
Note: I have installed Blackberry Connect 4 as well for connection to my corporate email.
If an message comes in, it will sit there and vibrate like mad until I wake it up. For now, I've disabled vibrate.

sounds very much like the typical idiot you find in such places
is it just email notifications that are affected, or does it happen on all types of notification, ie sms message?
Good question...
Right now I'm running Dutty's Tilt Beta 2 w/ touch and all is good actually. It turns out that the phone ring uses only one vibration (long) and is followed by sound, where as my email uses 3 short vibrations only.
I'm more inclined to reach and answer the phone, than I am to reach to read an email, plus the email gets 3 chances to improperly latch the vibrate.
So, I don't know if it really is only email, or if email manifests itself as the culprit only because it happens more often.
Others may be able to confirm this.
I will say though, I'v had Dutty's running for 24 hours, and although the weekend email volume is much lower for me, I would have expected it to happen again by now.
The whole thing is crazy, sometimes it bothers the hell out of me, and other days it just gets forgotten or I assume it is a glitch.
All in all, I like the phone enough to keep it in the end, even with this problem. However, I still think the numbers on this forum are low enough that I have a decent chance of not experiencing this "bug" with my new phone when it arrives.

No sound whatsoever :(

Had my Touch Diamond for a few weeks now, but my love for it is dwindling into hatred fast
First of all, I've been having a lot of alignment problems with the touch screen. It'll be phone for a short while, then it will go skewiff, leaving me frustartingly trying to navigate to the Screen/Align setting for an umpteenth time.
Anyway, over the last couple of day a more serious problem has occured. My friend called me a couple of times yesterday and I could not hear him and he could not her me. I left it as maybe somekind of tempory network problem, however today my partner and a couple of other people have called me and the same is happening there. I try to call back, but no luck.
Also, I was late for work today... because I didn't hear my alarm! Yes, it seems all sound ceases to function on my 3 week old Touch Diamond
Now I'm left worrying that I have to call Orange, let them investigate and see if they replace it. To be honest, I'd rather have a different model completely. Am I able to get a different phone?
Anyone had this problem?
Thanks for reading.

Foriegn object in headphone socket caused another problem

Ok, so, here is the background story.
Yesterday, I had found that a small screw had managed to make its way into the headphone socket of my X1. How it got there? I think the screw was in my pocket because I cant think of any other way it would.
Anyway, today, managed to get the screw out however, now the current problem is that the phone thinks that a headset is constantly connected... While having a headset in actually works, removing the headset, the phone still acts in headset mode.
I'm wondering, does anyone have any solutions to this? Either hardware solution or, much easier for me, a software solution such as manually placing the phone in normal or headset mode?
Any help would be graciously appreciated, thanks in advance.
Edit:
I've done a search of the forums and this isn't the problem that used to happen with the X1 and the headphone issue (I never had that problem) so again, any help would be appreciated.
Hmm, I'm a little disappointed that there's been 51 views and not 1 reply.
Looks like I'll be going to the service center route. Does anyone have any experience with the service center? WIll they fix the cracking issue (from the uk of course).

If you imply that people have been unwilling to reply, consider that people might have refrained from responding simply because they have nothing useful to tell you. Would you prefer a load of redundant messages?
Now, as to your problem. Based on the information given, it's clearly mechanical, e.g. the sensor inside the jack. Which - funny enough - relates directly to the results of your conducted search. Possibly, the screw did more damage, which makes the problem harder to solve.
Thus, I recommend to try inserting and extracting a 3.5mm jack into the socket several times with quite some force. Perhaps that loosens the sensor. If that doesn't help, you'll have little choice but to send it back, in which case cracks should indeed be repaired as well. Good luck!

Microphone stopped working, ok after reboot. Anyone else had this?

Hi guys,
I didn't use my phone for calling for about 10 days and today I used it again and my Z1's microphone didn't work! It was working the last time I had called someone so I figured it must be other person's phone. However, when another person called me, it also didn't work. I then went into the service menu and tested the microphone there and it didn't work also...
I was really frustated and already digged into my spare phone archive and was going to decide if I have to use my old K850i for calling or my Samsung clamshell when I decided to make a reboot. Luckily, it worked again after the reboot, both in service menu and in calls.
I hope it stays this way and it was only a one of a kind failure.
My question now is: Did anyone else have this before and it worked again after reboot or did it come back?
If this should happen again, I will be forced to send it in for warranty as this is clearly a warranty case and the phone was only bought in September!
P.S.: This was the first time that this happened with any of my phones in the last 12 years!

[Q] T-Mobile D9592 No sound or mic.

So, fist time post.
Anyway, a friend of mine gave me his Flex the other day. He was upset because he couldn't get the sound/audio to work and no one could hear him on his end, showing his mic wasn't working (first time this has happened). After tinkering around for a bit (cleaning over and over), trying everything I could, even downgrading it from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 to see if it was a software problem. Still nothing. Yet, when a headset or just normal headphones are plugged in everything works fine.
So, after all of that we took it in and they said it wasn't a hardware problem, but they couldn't find a solution and they couldn't replace the handset with his warranty already expired. So, I was hoping there was someone here who could help me. I was thinking maybe if there was a software problem I didn't catch if installing a custom rom on it would help. I was hoping to hopefully get some insight before going to that.
Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section, still new here.
There are no "custom" per say ROMs besides the cm11 one Playfulgod and I have posted in the dev section. If you're on 4.2.2 download Playfulgod's cm11. But it doesn't stay booted and there is no data. Download mine ,which is only Playfulgod's cm that I've modified to boot with 4.4, and the is no sound but it has data and stable boot. I don't suggest either one as your fix though. If you flash the stock 4.2.2 or the stock 4.4.2 software to it and there still is no sound except through the headphone jack then I can't imagine it not being a hardware issue. I mean it pretty much has to be a hardware issue.
And besides the kats at these stores selling you the phones or answering your questions, stereotypically no smarter about the devices than any other 20 year old that has googled and memorized the specs of the phones. They know specs and sales pitches. Other wise they have to revert to the computer and go through a series of elimination questions to diagnose your issue. Ive even had to show one rep how to use lg PC suite to flash his g2 back to stock. And that's the standard issue software that we all have.
My best guess on your issue is the device could have been dropped or damaged in some way that has loosened or broken a connection or part inside rendering the speaker useless. But that's my opinion.
Well I don't think it's been dropped. At least he said he didn't drop it. After pulling it apart I made sure everything was in the right place and nothing was shorted out or disconnected. So I'll probably send it into a repair shop to see if they can do anything with it. Though a headset would probably just be the better way to go, it's just an inconvenience.

Absolutely. I would hate to have to through in my ear buds every time I had to answer a call
Well after installing Master Volume Control, I have been able to test that the speaker does in fact work. But no sounds of any kind aside from voice call, work, the normal beep you get when using the volume rockers. This is starting to drive me crazy.
might have solution
Just received my refurbished flex phone, realized no sound from speaker. Popped the back off a couple times, suddenly I hear sound! The cable over the battery when lifted and remove the crease caused by shape of battery removed, speaker now works! I hope this helps you. Best of luck.
