Need Help ASAP Removing Safestrap - Motorola Droid Bionic

EVERYTIME I restart my phone, Safestrap comes up. I have uninstalled it from the apps, I've done a FDR, and still it continues to show up. How do I get rid of it? I have the 3.05 version installed. I tried reinstalling Safestrap, but it doesn't show up in my Market. I tried reinstalling it by searching for an apk, but everytime I install it, it just force closes on me when I open it up. HELP!

Anyone??

You can FXZ your phone back to stock. That will remove safestrap and root ( and any and all data on your phone ). You can look through the development thread for instructions But this will bring you back to completely stock. You may have to OTA from there to get back to current versions. I have used this many times to save my self from an almost bricked phone.

Open up the safestrap and then uninstall recovery from within the app. Uninstalling the app itself does nothing but uninstall the app.

The app was gone. I wasn't able to open safestrap.
Somehow, I lost root, and I didn't realize it. I rerooted my phone, then I was able to reinstall an apk of safestrap and uninstall it the correct way. OTA downloaded and installed flawlessly after that. Thanks for the help. :good:

There's instruction on Hashcode's website on how to remove Safestrap from the bootloader using ADB

Hi!
I'm new and I can't post in the main discussion and I need help about rooting...
I bought my D4 in USA (to use in Europe) and it comes with ICS, Rsd Lite provide this description:
Software Version: 6.7.2-180_DR4-16_M2-37
Flex Version: XSAMASR01VRZNA025.0R
Bootloader Version: 0a74
Btw, I downloaded the Tool, RSD, Drivers.
After drivers and RSD (by my old motorola experience), I successfully connected my phone, with debug on and MTP.
I tried to root with the tool (function 9) and it seems everything fine...
I've got superuser, but it doesn't work properly...so I don't know if the root was ok or not...
How can I check the situation?
Thanks

If all you have done is root your phone you are still on your stock Motorola ROM. Maserati is just the D4's code name. Now you have the option of installing safestrap recovery and custom ROMs but it sounds like you just want to be able to remove some bloatware apps. You do NOT want to uninstall apps on your stock ROM. If you do you will be unable update to the latest over-the-air updates without flashing the ICS fastboot files. Use an app like Titanium Backup to FREEZE apps.

Thanks again...so I have root permission and Titanium Backup just works perfectly...at least I would like to remove all the apps of Verizon and also unuseful for me (like Amazon, MOG, Netflix...).
At the moment I don't want to install custom ROMs...what is safestrap recovery for?
What does it mean that I will be unable update to the latest over-the-air updates? Can I UNINSTALL the apps with Titanium Backup or should I just FREEZE? SOLVED

Safestrap recovery is a custom recovery that you can boot into that allows you to install custom ROMs (AOKP, CM10.1, etc.). So if you're not interested in custom ROMs don't worry about it.
What I was referring to when I talked about not being able install the latest OTA updates is that if you change anything about the stock system, such as uninstalling a verizon app that you wouldn't normally be able to uninstall, when the next update comes along, like Jelly Bean, it will fail when trying to install. That is why, in general, you should freeze instead of uninstall.

[Q][RECOVERY] Need a recovery, please help!

DROID BIONIC
Android Version: 4.0.4 ICS
System Version: 6.7.246.XT875.Verizon.en.US
So i finally rooted my phone and got superuser. But the method didn't give me a safestrap or bootstrap file to download.
I went online and have dowloaded multiple safestrap apk files (1.0, 2.11, 3.1) and they all said they run on ICS. So i install then and when i go to run them it prompts me and says "unfortunately, safestrap has stopped." and it's followed by another little pop-up that says "Safestrap has been denied superuser permissions." So i can't get into recovery to flash any roms. I'm not sure what to do.
I've tried to wipe the data, caches, and restore my phone, nothing helps. And i made sure my USB debugging is on. But after everything i've tired all my recovery apps still force close and don't get permission. I've also tried to flash my roms using the stock recovery and nothing happens.
I also downloaded titanium back-up and when i go to open the app it notifys me that it doesn't get root permissions, that my phones not rooted. Now with the ICS update theres a Root Check in the stock recovery and it reads “qe 1/1″- so that tells me i"m rooted. So i'm not sure there.
I don't know what to do. Maybe i'm missing a few steps. If anyone could help me out and point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!
I got same issue
Did you get it resolved. I spent all afternoon only to be rooted but unable to acess recovery. any elder statesman that have any answers?
No, i haven't fixed the problem yet. Was hoping someone could help me out
This is what happens when i try opening any safestrap app i install.

Safestrap
Which version of Safestrap did you try? I prefer 3.1 as it has touchscreen capabilities. Do you by chance have bootstrap installed? This could be giving the error.
---------- Post added at 08:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 PM ----------
For the safestrap failing to be granted super user access error, you should be able to manually 'whitelist' it in your superuser application. If that does not work, you might want to try a different root program. I tend to use SuperSU, as I enjoy the features, and the realiability.
I tried the versions listed- 1.0, 2.11, 3.1
None of those worked. And no, I've never had bootstap installed. And what's the "whitelist"? I've never messed around with the superuser app, I've only just checked the log and see all my root apps get denied (titanium, safestrap, etc.)
And for the other root method: I'm not sure how to do any other methods, or even find any for that matter. I know my phones rooted, it tells me in my stock recovery.
If anyone could help me out by posting links, that'd help A LOT!

Has any application that requires Root Access, or Sudo, ever been granted Super User Permissions? If not, I have a feeling that your root was not preformed correctly. If I may ask, do you remember which "root" method you used? I used HoB Linux Edition, as I run Gentoo. HoB Linux Edition stands for House of Bionic Linux Edition. Here is a link for HoB. (Well, apparently I am unable to post links until i have posted atleast ten times. Message me on Google talk for the link. My GT is later on in this message).
There is a version for Windows, Mac, and the best of all, Os/Distros based off of the Linux kernel (which is based off of the Unix Kernel). As for the whitelist, you are able to go in and select which applications you would like to either always deny, grant, or ask for Super User Access. Again, I've mainly only used SuperSU, as i have had problems with most of the others out there currently. I would not go off of the stock recovery, as, for me at least, when I had an incomplete root, the stock recovery said I was rooted, even though I was not. If you could, could you please post a copy of the log from the super user program that you use? Also, which one do you use, again? If you are online/awake currently, message me on Google talk your questions. i will post anything that solves this issue in the morning. This is do to my mother decided that I need to go to bed. My Google talk is ([email protected]). My Google talk is also best to reach me for quick replies during the hours of: 0700 hours through 1530 hours as I am in my classes at that period of time (High School). Another quick question, did you ever go to Az or Fz Fastboot, during your root process? (Been rooted for over 1.5 years now, a little hard to remember). If not, I doubt that the Root was successful. I am sorry for my late response, as I was watching BSG Blood and Chrome, while shining my shoes for the ROTC inspection tomorrow.
Hope we fix this soon,
~NH85
No, so far since i've rooted this phone superuse has denied every application. I use the superuser v3.1.3.
I was thinking just last night that my root was performed incorrectly, so i went to droidbionicroot website and downloaded a un-root method (as well as several root methods) But i haven't done it yet, I've read that it bricked some users phone's and i don't want that.
I'm on a windows and have tried several root methods. I think the one that actually worked for me was called "PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07"
Also, what's Az or Fz fastboot? I'm sorry, I'm still kinda new to this rooting stuff so i appreciate the patience.
I don't have a google talk so I'll just email you at the address. My email is [email protected]

[Q] Titanium Backup issues

NooB alert: A quick background before jumping into the problem at hand.
I have been interested in PA rom for a long time, I really like the idea of Pie controls and now Halo. I have done a lot of reading and feel I have a basic understanding of root/rom etc... However, I am not a programmer or anything close to that, and still a greenhorn. I have a few questions but right now I have one main problem:
1. I rooted my Atrix HD on AT&T 4.1 yesterday via the Motochopper
2. Verified root access
3. Installed Safestrap successfully
4. Installed Titanium Backup
5. Installed Rom Manager, but it doesn't seem to work with the Atrix HD as there isn't an official CWM.
When I 1st installed TB, I got an error message, see attached image. I re-rooted, and uninstalled/reinstalled TB, no error message. When I run the full backup, the black pop-up box that says 'TB given root access' continues to pop up over and over, and usually about 15-20% through the backup, it stops and kicks out to the home screen. I'm not sure what the issue here is? Does anybody know what could be going on?
Also, to answer some additional questions. Do I have to unlock the bootloader to use PA rom, or can I just do that via Safestrap? Like most newbies, I'm just afraid of screwing something up and I really don't want to do that.

for the first qn, please update super user / super su binaries, you can update it in settings of that app. and for installing PAC you need to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery.. DO NOT TRY ANYTHING WITHOUT UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER.....
I cannot find anywhere to update the su in the su app or TB app.
Thanks for clearing up the bootloader issue. I first thought you could flash the rom without it and just using Safestrap, but the more I read it seemed like I needed to unlock the bootloader...so I got confused.
You have to unlock your bootloader and use cwm. Delete the rom slot you created with safestrap then uninstall safestrap.

Okay, I figured out this issue. I had to reinstall SS and remove the recovery, then uninstall.
So, now how do I fix my Titanium Backup issue? I would like to get that part done before moving on to unlocking the bootloader.
That's what I said to do originally lol. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling tb since safestrap Removal? And are you positive your rooted? Checked with root checking app?

I also downloaded Mybackup Root, this did not work either. It did a similar thing to TB, it kept flashing up 'root permission granted' and after a few apps, it kicked out to the homescreen.

TB is by far the best way to back up data, but you can back up your entire system/data (which is recommend in case of a bad flash) with ClockWorkMod's ROM Manager . You don't need the premium but if you end getting deep into this kind of stuff I'd recoommend it

No. Actually, before you do any of that use the MythTools on you computer and run the program and install CWM on you phone (option #3). After launch Rom manager and choose "Device Not Listed Above". Then scroll down to "backup and restore" and press "backup current rom" follow the instructions and that should do it.
I was hoping to get TB working prior to unlocking the bootloader. Can I change the Superuser app that came with the Motochopper? Maybe that will fix my issue.

Can't Check for Software Updates?

Hey guys,
I am stock rooted on my Note 3. I only rooted to clean up most of the ATT bloatware that was installed; so that's all I've removed.
I can't check software updates. I tap and tap and tap the Software Updates button in the settings and nothing. I've tried restarting the phone and still nothing. Any ideas?

Ahh man that sucks! Looks like your learning your lesson the hard way.
This isn't directed at you, or any one person. But I don't know where you "I deleted bloat and need it now" people learned to delete stuff. BUT STOP DELETING LOL! You must always always always perform a complete app backup FIRST! I highly recommend titanium backup pro. Use it to backup EVERYTHING first. Freeze unwanted apps and use phone for 2 days. If device still works fine then uninstall the app, but keep the backup! A 5 minute backup saves you a 50min restore process.

EDIT: Would doing just a factory reset on my phone fix that? Or do I need to download a full ROM?

When you first install Titanium backup pro you'll see a white box with a checkmark thru it on the top right. That's known as "Batch Actions". Within that menu you'll see category's like verify backups, backup, restore, move/integrate etc..... I recommend running "Backup all user apps + system data". The first time running is slow. Now you'll have EVERYthing backed up. Now to freeze an app, use the menu and scroll to desired app. Select it and choose "freeze". Now the frozen app will be highlighted as you scroll the list. Reboot and run the phone a day or 2. If no glitches arise and you need the space, you can "uninstall" the app. Uninstall it by selecting it and choosing "uninstall". After an app is uninstalled the backup you made will be allllll they way down the list with a line thru it. If you find out you need the uninstalled app, click it and select "restore" then choose "app only". If you choose "app+data" glitches can arise. Especially if you restore a backed up 4.3 app to a 4.4.2 rom.
I hope that lil rundown on titanium helps ya. If I am unclear like I have been before, feel free to shoot another question.

A factory reset can sometimes fix issues like this. It all depends on how the item was removed. Frozen apps will be restored. But deleted and blitzed apps don't come back from factory resets. You never know till you try, and it can't hurt to try since your about to reflash back to stock anyway. So give it a shot!

They were uninstalled, so if you are saying it doesn't come back, then I won't waste the time with the Factory Reset. I need to find a guide to flash back to stock. I don't know much about this phone and getting technical with it. I enjoyed it so much just the way it is.

Open your titanium backup, scroll alllll the way down to the bottom of your list and see if you have "Att Software update" with a line thru it. If not and you want to return back to stock follow this thread. Restore for MJ5

Thank you, sir!
The only thing I have at the bottom that have lines through it are AT&T Smart Wi-fi" and "media."
I'll have to follow that thread.
Just out of curiosity, if I took my phone back into an AT&T store and asked them to complete wipe and restore it, do they have a full ROM that they would be putting back on? I wouldn't mind that since I would rather them do it since it's faster. Not much time to mess around with this right now.
A Samsung store should be able to. I'm unsure about an at&t store. Call one by you.

Getting started

Received mine earlier today, and I have already rooted and installed Google services. The first thing you want to do is pick up the developer rom from Mi if it's not already installed. The numerical versions are different, but both are MIUI 6. Follow the recommended procedure. Once that's done, use the mistore and search for SuperSU, and the familiar shield should appear. Install it, and it should ask for root permissions. Allow it, update the binary, and from there you can start the process of getting Google onto the phone. In the interest of saving you time and possibly a headache, this will get you started. Since you'll probably want to take a break after this, leave a comment or any questions you may have and I'll get back to you.

Do you have power setting in which you can select performance mode ?

en.miui.com. It's in the downloads section.
Install TWRP, install latest (non-developer!) rom, GApps and root - ~5 minute version:
Thanks to the outstanding work from folks at MIUI forums, TWRP is now available to install via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery _insert .img name here_). Since you'll be able to achieve root without needing the native functionality, you can pick up the latest update from Mi if you like. Ever in the interest of saving you time, you can pick up the GApps package here . It didn't flash via TWRP for me, but I unzipped it and installed everything with no issues via the pre-installed file explorer. At this point, I downloaded the latest SuperSU beta and installed it via TWRP to update the binary from TWRP installation. I'm currently messing with QPST and QXDM settings and will update with any findings to report.
I manage to install Gapps 64 bit and works flawlessly

The seller probably installed a different ROM. Mine came with a ton of bloat ware. First thing I did was wipe the phone and install the ROM directly from en.miui
I can't send text message from any other sms application beside the preinstalled app. I get a message about connection not available.
Anybody can help?

have you tried to change default SMS app ?
settings/installed apps/defaults
yes, it doesn't work, I would have any sms app set as default but no luck, I guess I am the only one with this issue so I will have to keep on searching

I had the same problem, what you need to do is go to the security short cut on your home screen then permission then again permission scroll to your sms app and give it permission to send and receive.
Thanks, it worked but I find the default app actually better for dual sim card & selecting quickly which number to use is useful for my work.
I am having trouble getting root. I have downloaded and flashed the developer rom from the Xiaomi site without any issues. I have also gotten all google apps to install and function without any issues, but I can't get SuperSU to update the binaries, it always fails. A rootcheck application confirms that I do not have root access. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to install SuperSU from the recovery menu instead of from inside the android environment? Any help is appreciated. Take care guys.

You do not need to use super su just go to security application > permissions > root access and grant the application that needs root root access.
