[Q] Rooting this phone and installing latest CM7 - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hi,
my friend bought this phone and wants me to "fix it up" for him. I am completelly unfamiliar with this phone and Samsung in general, so I need a little help.
I have scoured these forums for the last hour and there is TONS of information available. It's really difficult to judge which posts are outdated and which are still working.
Basically what I want is this:
1. Root the phone
2. Install CWM
2. Install latest CM7 for this phone.
I reckon the root works with using SuperOneClick, correct? And for CWM I thought I'm gonna use this?
But I am at a complete loss when it comes to which CM7 to choose, there are tons of them? Can someone recommend me a fresh, stable, debloated and fast CM7 ROM with everything working?
Thanks.

I managed to get root and clockwork mod up and running.
Any ideas for which Rom?

1) For rooting, refer to this thread - http://yagyagaire.blogspot.in/2011/08/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-popmini.html
It does not matter if it outdated - all you have to do is go to superuser app, and choose update binaries. You will get latest version.
2) For now, i personally don't feel you should use CWM 6. the version i am using (CWM 5) has no bugs and works perfectly. here is the link -
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.in/2012/02/clockwork-mod-touch-for-galaxy-mini-gt.html
3) As for ROMs, there is a large collection out there. It all depends on your choice. For example, if you want:
A stock based ROM choose something like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861240
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576996
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074556 (which is CM10.1 - Jellybean)
Or another CM10.1 ROM which works very well - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227481
Or maybe another interesting ROM which im sure you will like, which has interesting tweaks like android version - 5.0.0.5 (lol)
Cyanogen mod 7 music edition - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329551&highlight=emanon
Or the experience ROM by autoradio, which allow a lot of customization - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2193327
This is another really good ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754694
PS the question "best ROM" is always being asked and is then subsequently closed by a mod, so read the rules next time
Another thing you should know is NEVER use an app called ROM manger. it will brick your phone.
I supposs this cover everything
Press thanks if i helped

What Kernel And Custom Roms are best?

I Have Rooted my Note with Odin and are on kernel KK5.. Im thinking of install a new kernel and getting a custom rom for improve the speed, battery and hopefully no lag after reading different topics here, its pretty hard too choose? anyone know for sure whats the best out?
Look at them all, read the responses, then pick one. There is no such thing as "best".
Agreed!
Its what best suits your needs. CF-Root may be considered as the most stable and close to stock as possible with just Root.
That may be what you want to start with.
The best ones are: of your considering and best choice to fit your device
yes there is not a best rom (never ask about which is the best rom)
there are different roms
some uses some devices/cpu drivers/controllers/governors some not, some are lighter some are more heavy
some looks quite similar to stock and some others are completely different
some boost speed others boost battery usage
i think that for make a good choice 1st element is to see who made the rom: there are some devs who have been tweacking/writing roms for years on older devices and have a strong strong reputation
2nd element very important is to check the comments of the people who tried it on the threads: read 1st page of the post and then go to last page and read the 10/20 last replies
usually for noobs like you and me the best is to go for a well tested rom without 2 many problems
i wouldnt dare to install cyanogenmod 9 so far....
anyway if i were you i would try the rocket rom vers 20 and then upgrade to rocket rom 21
this rom has a long development and its quite reliable
being .21 version many bugs have been amended and the dev is very active and nice.
2 go for reliable rom as beginner is the most intelligent choice!
hope to have been helpful

I recommend him to install cyanogenmod 9 for an adventurous/risky feeling !!! lol
Hi, my name is g4ndr1k and I'm a flash addict.
I've tried almost every ROM and now I am on DarkyROM. Hopefully it would be my last before ICS.
My other favorites are Cassie's, CheckROM, KingDroid and Romow.
For giving a precise answer (of course, only IMHO):
CheckRom v5 with either CF Root oder SpeedMod Kernel.
But, in general: use what suits your needs best. How? take a look at every ROM.
Honestly as of now the custom ROM's dont really stand out that much compared to the stock ones, on a day to day basis with a blind test no one can tell the difference.
I was looking for smoothness, stability and the minimum lag without changing a lot in UI, stock LA4 deodexed with fm 2.0 kernel was my best choice after trying several roms, I'm satisfied with what i have before the ICS comes out.

Thanks for all the reply's
I been watching some youtube clips and i think im going with the: "CheckROM Revo NoteHD ROM" if not anyone has something bad too say about it it looks really nice!
Edit:// Rocket ROM FTW!!!

if you already rooted and installed CWM recovery, then no need to flash using Odin.
just copy Zip (ROM) to SD card and reboot in CWM recovery then flash.
(Flashing Custom ROM using Odin(PC) adds binary counter)

Im actually starting too wonder if id used Odin.. This is the package i used: DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su
but anyway, i dont think i have CWM recovery installed, i have downloaded Rom Manager, but when i push the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I can only choose between a few samsung choices like SII but no Galaxy Note?
Currently on rocket 21 but id highly recommend checkROM v5. Seems the most stable with superb performance and battery. Flash abyss kernel 3.5 and overclock and undervolt to 1600. Guarantee you'll love it. With checkrom you can install missing Samsung apps from kitchen and a variety of mods to suit your needs. Would recommend ics keyboard if you use fingers to type or swype if you use the pen a lot.

[Q] need a new rom. ruined my current build. i want something basic. got CWM.

hello everyone. first post as you can see. i m not new to the android world, but i m not into modding, so after the buggy stock rom bugged to death, i installed a early CM7 for the SGM. it was maybe 6 months ago.
right now it pretty much ruined. the cache or some inner app folder started to build up, and i tried all kind of things to free up space, till 2 hours ago when i did something and now i cant install any new apps, and having only 13 MB left is not good. i want to start over, but this time i want to do it my way.
what is my way? well, tell me my taste sucks, but i think all of the GO EX apps are awesome, so i'd like to flash a new rom, if possible using just the CWM, that will have the GO: Launcher, SMS, Dialer, Contacts, Calander and Keyboard. the full monty. i dont want wallpaper manager, or google voice (doesnt work in israel), or "Car Home" (what ever that is :| ). for mediaplayer i use playerpro. i want it to have all of those as the basic package, and also opera mobile.
so, the questions (after all the demands lol) are:
1. is there a very basic, flashable from CWM, ROM, that can do the job i need?
2. if the answer for 1 is no, how hard is it to take a basic rom and mod it to suit my needs?
3. since i learned to live with my buggy CM7 and pretty much not using many apps, i can also just install some good rom (using CWM) and let that be. but is there one good rom out there? it seems that in the development forum its all about beta rom's witch S voice and ICS or something like that.
3.If u want a good and stable rom use MORe or Mebitek and kittenlinux's cm7 is very stable too
2.There are plenty of guy in the developement forum about how to make custom rom
1.Use stock

2. It not really that hard search the one by mv_style
1.MORe and emanon v3 are good vanilla the new emanon is a libit bloat.
If u don't like any bloat app use titanium backup to remove them and u can also use titanium back up to convert the apps u like to system (long press the apps u like and thre will be an pop up)

Its awesome...!

[Q] ROM Options...

Hey guys and gals,
Noob here, only installed 1 or 2 ROM's in the past, but I would now like a hand deciding on a suitable ROM for my needs on my Galaxy Tab P1000 (UK/European)
I would like a ROM that is nice and responsive, has good battery life and is fairly customisable, and I guess most come already rooted? I would prefer it to be ICS or JB too I have looked about and seen a few CM10 ones, some MIUI ones and various others but I am lost for choice, I have no idea what ones are best.
I want everything to work (all wireless connections, camera etc...) don't mind things like auto brightness or similar as that isn't major. The main reason for wanting to change from the stock gingerbread is because I find it unresponsive and boring.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, thought Q&A was my best bet.
Thanks,
Cam.
Actually your best bet is to try them out yourself. All criteria are subjective.

Ok matey, will have a play!
Thanks,
Cam.
Hey again,
Quick question,
For the MIUI v4 ICS ROM, which I like the look of alot, it needs a "restock" and install Overcome or a CM9 guide to be followed. (ROM link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613842 )
However, do I still need to do this as I haven't already installed any custom ROM? If I do can you give me a feint idea how I can approach it? Or can I just wipe cache/data etc.. and install the ROM?
Sorry if I am being a pain, not had to do any of this before.
Thanks,
Cam.
Many has your problem.
The thing is, newer ( well, post April 2012) ROM use new MTD layout, which need you to come from stock, or from same layout.
If your custom ROM were GB, no issue. They are stock BML partition, which the new rom can convert upon install.
If it were cm9 or 10, watch the mtd layout. The installer isn't made to convert older mtd to new mtd, so need restock.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Ok so as I have no custom ROM at all I need to restock to new layout. No problem, just wanted to know if it was necessary for me to do it.
Thanks for your help,
Cam.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk 2
Think I have got it, can someone please confirm my steps to make sure I am doing it right?
1. Flash latest CWM recovery using Odin
2. Make Nandroid backup using CWM
3. Flash GB-stock-safe, then flash Overcome kernel 4.0.0.tar using Odin for both (do I do these separately or is there a way to flash them together?)
4. Place MIUI v4 ROM and GApps etc.. on Tab's SD card.
5. Boot into recovery, wipe cache, wipe data and flash ROM.
6. Flash GApps and patch's etc...
7. Reboot into ROM
If it doesn't reboot into MIUI I need to reflash the ROM as the first flash converted my Tab to MTD? Is that correct?
Hopefully I have got it,
Thanks in advance,
Cam
Actually, am I right in saying CWM isn't fully supported on P1000? What recovery should I use?
Sorry for all the questions again,
Cam.
Cwm is contained in kernel.
If you are willing to forgo backup, must start with GB stock safe v5
Then overcome kernel.
By then you have a cwm recovery.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Got it all installed/flashed last night. Went all ok and I worked out that the kernel included overcome cwm after reading a guide from the link in your Sig.
I suppose its good that I love the ROM too
Thanks for the help, appreciate it.

[Q] Upgrading from CM9

I've got my Verizon SCH-1800 that I wanted to start using again.
Looking at it now, I'm on CM 9-20120511-NIGHTLY-p1c, which is 4.0.4
The kernel is 2.6.35.7-g8f42093, [email protected]#1
I've been reading around about new ROMs, etc but if I'm not mistaken, back when I rooted this processes were very particular about how to root this tablet and all I'm seeing is a lot of older threads. I guess I'm hoping someone can answer two simple questions for me:
- Is there a method of rooting that is the definitive way for this tablet?
- After so much time, is there a version of Android that is most stable for this aging tablet? ICS, JB?
Thank you if anyone can help, I appreciate it.
If you have CM9, then you have root access. As to stable or good rom's, you just have to read up on the different ones to see what sounds good to you. Then flash it. Don't like it? Try another.
Sent from my SCH-I200PP using xda app-developers app
Ok, so from now on it's just a question of installing zips via recovery? I never have to go back to stock again like you once used to?
Something more must be needed because I can't even flash this CM ROM without problems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032726
Recovery says it's a bad ZIP. But I got it from that link.

Just Rooted S3 Mini, Whats Next?

I was able to root my phone. Now my question is that I would like to run a lag free system. Would changing the Rom fix that? Will I lose any features on my phone? I want a rom that is Simple ( google edition phone/ no bloatware) My current system is 4.2.1, would I need to stay on 4.2.1 to keep my features or that doesnt matter. I am a total noob and the more explanation, the better ( & more appreciated).

Custom ROMs also have their pros and cons, but are generaly faster and smoother than stock. They add new features, that's why we love them, but there are some sacrifices. If u decide to go custom, go to Original Android Development subforum here, browse around, and make your pick... (I personaly recomend CM 10.2 from NovaFusion if you want a stable, yet smooth custom ROM that won't let you down). Ofcourse, when flashing them, and recovery of your chosing, you should know what you're doing, at least on paper, so come prepared. All the info is already here, just search it.
Staying on stock has some advantages too. It's almost risk free, and like pang34 said, u can do lots of things on stock (now that you are rooted) too that will improve performance and customize your phone. There are also some Stock Based ROMs here (haven't tried them, but also a good option), you should check them out.
The decision is all yours. You chose, that's the cool thing about Android.:highfive:

4.2.1?? What s3 mini verson do you have?
If is GT-I8190 the you can costomize like custom recovery and rom.
You'll not lose any feature, you can boost the phone smoothnes and response to comands by making a good combination of kernel-cutom rom, you can boost battery life and performance as well.
You'll lose nothing just the warranty, nothing more.

Hi, I would personally install twrp from novafusion. http://novafusion.pl/downloads#
Install using Odin. I use twrp for any ROMs I install, it has never let me down.
After you have twrp installed, click on wipe>advanced wipe and check
System
Data
Cach
Dalvik
Then install what ever ROM you have downloaded.

best way is always via odin but with latest twrp by novafusion it is very easy to install. i recommand to do a clean install every month or after complexer updates.
