I've got my Verizon SCH-1800 that I wanted to start using again.
Looking at it now, I'm on CM 9-20120511-NIGHTLY-p1c, which is 4.0.4
The kernel is 2.6.35.7-g8f42093, [email protected]#1
I've been reading around about new ROMs, etc but if I'm not mistaken, back when I rooted this processes were very particular about how to root this tablet and all I'm seeing is a lot of older threads. I guess I'm hoping someone can answer two simple questions for me:
- Is there a method of rooting that is the definitive way for this tablet?
- After so much time, is there a version of Android that is most stable for this aging tablet? ICS, JB?
Thank you if anyone can help, I appreciate it.
If you have CM9, then you have root access. As to stable or good rom's, you just have to read up on the different ones to see what sounds good to you. Then flash it. Don't like it? Try another.

Ok, so from now on it's just a question of installing zips via recovery? I never have to go back to stock again like you once used to?
Something more must be needed because I can't even flash this CM ROM without problems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032726
Recovery says it's a bad ZIP. But I got it from that link.

So today my little bro asked me to root his Note and flash CM9 on it, but I came to a halt when I found out his current firmware with which the phone was delivered is on the "not directly rootable" list, which I take it can only be rooted by flashing an older firmware?
The kernel seems to be the N7000XXLC1 while the phone is N7000XXLB2. It came delivered with a Telia (Swedish carrier) ROM.
Is there some other way to root this phone other than switching to an older firmware? Some exploit or something? I'd hate to accidentally brick his phone considering it's but a few days old. The way of helping him would be:
1. Install CWM
2. Root and/or install custom ROM
Does the N7000 have some sort of bootloader to unlock, or a fastboot mode? Is it easy to accidentally brick it? I mean a deeper brick than just a system brick? You'd have eternal gratitude if you could pinpoint me to an easy way of doing this or if you could compose an easy guide. Duly note I have checked the two guides here but the first one is a root option for ICS firmwares and the other one involves flashing an older firmware with ODIN, one thing I don't actually wanna do, just yet.
I myself use a Galaxy Nexus so things work out completely different on the two with the Nexus being more of a developer's phone. My bro hates Gingerbread by now and the lame Touchwiz UI.
Go to development subforum and read dr ketans guide.
The safest is to revert back to older roms and root if you need it. Avoid cwm in ICS if you can.
Read, read, and read some more.

I just want to get him CM9 in the easiest way possible. Why do you say I should avoid cwm in ICS?
There are many issues with bricking in ics kernels by doing factory restores or large data transfers.
To the best of my knowledge though, cm9 kernels are safe, as well as paranoid Android and a couple of others. There's a great thread about the dangers of ics somewhere.

Well his phone is currently running gingerbread and it looks like I'm gonna have to flash back to a rootable firmware. I managed to find a very easy to-do guide in my own language so now I think I'll manage it.
I'll install CM9 on his Note since I know he likes CM9 and the Cyanogenmod team is highly reliable. I'm not saying the other aren't, I'm merely saying that the ROMs by CM have always worked in some way.
Hi all,
First of all, sorry if my questions been asked million times, I did try search and read through the forum for days, still not sure.
I had my cappy since 2009, flashed couple times to custom roms with some experts assistant here. Was using HTC EVO 3D for half a year..... and dont like it, and i gave it to my wife, coming back to cappy. l like the captivate community here. a lot more developers and good roms for cappy.
I have done couple days reading on the captivate Q&A, Development, and general section, also, search through youtub and google. no tutorial for flashing from custom rom to JB. I cannot be sure which is the correct flashing procedures for me. Since I was missing half a year time following the captivate thread.
My cappy is using,
FireFly 3.0
Baseband version: I9000UGJK4
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]
1) In order to flash to Jelly bean, what would be the safest way to flash?
2) if flashing CyanogenMod 10, I have read the procedure for flashing CyanogenMod 10, sounds like no Odin needed, just flash from internal SD?
Any help would be highly appreciated

I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL. YOU VETO THE RIGHT TO SUE ME
Steps to get you to CM9 (i personally am having trouble going to cm10)
I take things one step at a time to not mess up anything.
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
a) make sure you have ATT Gingerbread bootloaders
b) install CWM via the kernel
c) if fails odin back to stock(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843) and repeat (should work)
2) download cm7 from ( http://get.cm/?device=captivatemtd )
a) mount storage and place inside
b) from CWMRecovery follow instructions for flashing (look on internet) to wipe everything and install from zip (itll reboot)
3) download Glitch kernel for cm9 (maybe you might need to do this if you experience boot loops, or error)
4) flash cm9 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592141&highlight=kernel)
5)....
Hey bro,
Dont worry, I understand the risk of bricking. I really appreciate your detailed info. I am gonna follow your instruction to flash tonight when I get home.
Some more things tho, I have a rogers cappy means I896, should I get rogers bootloader instead? And what if I flash some ROM which is not CM based, would the procedure any different? Cuz heard ppm saying after flashing CM based ROM is harder to get back normal ROMs because of different file system structure.
By reading some threads, there ppl saying ICS can understand any boot loader, so I don't have the flash it? Cuz I heard flashing that is most risky.
Lastly, I would like to thank you by at least clicking your thanks meter, but is not on your signature. Or could u tell me to click that.
Again, I really appreciate your help
Jack

Hey All,
Soooo this is my first Motorola Android device and I have to say I'm quite excited, but nervous. Just recently I was using Verizon's thunderbolt, and I've always used HTC. Well, after my 2nd thunderbolt, it crapped out on me again. So, I complained to Verizon and in return they sent me a Bionic. After reading reviews I hear nothing but great things.
Now my issue, I don't know what to do. Usually with my HTC devices, I root and flash roms, enough said. But with this Bionic I dont know where to begin. Some folks say install the ICS .232 build (which not sure how to do) and some folks say root and flash a ROM on. (Also, not sure what all this safestrap/bootstrap stuff is)
In all honesty, I really want a newer android OS. I think I was using gingerbread with my Tbolt, and I know ICS is out now, and Jellybean.
My main concern in what I want, and I hope someone can direct me to the correct place. I really want a fast, stable, build/ROM. I would like for everything to work as far as apps, gps, bluetooth, camera, etc.
I really appreciate all who respond, and I apologize greatly in advance if this is a repost. I tried researching before posting.
Again, huge thanks to all who respond.
Follow this guide to get on the an ICS leak. Personally I would strongly recommend not going beyond the .232 ICS leak for now.
Follow this thread to get rooted.
Here's a link to everything you need to know about the bionic. http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...tstrapall-download-links-in-op-updated-daily/.

Hey...
Thanks the responses. I'm just confused. Everyone is saying to put on the.232 build, but can I put a Rom over top of that? If so, what Rom do you recommend and why?
Is .232 stable? Any known issues?

Yes you need to install the .232 leak in stock recovery. Then you need to root it and install safestrap, which is a recovery in which you can flash things. Once you have that installed, you need to boot into safestrap and make a backup of the nonsafe side. Safestrap works by partioning your system into a safe and nonsafe side. You are able to flash stuff on your safe side. So you need to toggle to your safe side and then you can flash a rom. I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32349741#post32349741 but thats just me haha, theres a ton of other info in the different sections here http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/forum/68-droid-bionic/
Hi there
I am fairly newish to rooting etc and have spent the last week trawling the P1000 forums to try and understand it all.
I would like to take my P1000 GSM TAB from my stock GB2.3.3 to JB4.x and from what i have seen although the CM9 is stable I am tempted to go for the CM10 nightly install. (Do they differ greatly? not sureeven after reading the forums)
I am not sure how much such an install would differ from the tweaked CM10 versions I also see on this dev forum from the likes of Erezax (Sapir), Cdesai and Alroger etc. Only in minor ways i suppose with the possibility of further undiscovered bugs.
So from what i can gather, the method would be similar to that laid down in the Overcome installation pdf.
My question though is do i need to go the whole hog and install the overcome kernal/rom prior to installing the CM10 or can i just go as far as installing the stock GBStockSafev5 (which i want to do just in case, even though i have a stock ver of GB already) and then do a wipe install of CM10?
I ask because i read that it was even safer to go from an overcome rom with GB to CM10, as opposed to going from stock GB to CM10. Is there any truth in this would u know.?
many thx in advance for any reply
best rgrds
Lawrence
No direct way from stock to cm10 because stock recovery doesn't flash non Samsung made zip.

Ok, so my P1000 (stock Gingerbread, bought SIM-freeon and currently on Vodafone UK) has become soooo slow over the past two years of ownership, and a minor water contact today forced a factory reset... So a clean JPZ based Tab to play with...
Been toying with the idea (in hope for better performance) to get a custom ROM from here, maybe one based on ICS (if the hardware can take it), but after a couple of days of reading through all the posts and threads, I confess I am at a complete loss: can anyone recommend a stable working ROM (even if essentially based on stock images) that could/should improve the tired tab's performance? Also, not clear: do most ROMs here come with rooting or do I then need to apply CFRoot separately? Lastly, at the time of my last post (way way back), Overcome ROMs seemed to be the way to go, but today their site is down?
Please be gentle, though I understand the basics, I am indeed a novice in this arena

Great, many thanks, downloading now... As a follow up, I understand this is their version of 2.3.6 (Gingerbread); don't want to be a , but was wondering if there's an ICS ROM out there for the P1000? Also, is overclocking possible on the Overcome ROM? (the idea is to try and get a device that actually runs better than stock GB, so not even sure if the hardware is up to speed with ICS)
Again, thanks and apologies for the q's, got more confused reading through the posts than I was before
There are AOSP based ICS/JB
Just look for them in dev section.
Either CM or AOKP.
You still need overcome kernel to have cwm first in order to flash them.
kernel, not ROM, OK?
Overcome should be overclockable.

There is a relly good CM10 (JB) ROM I'm using: sapir-rom.blogspot.com It's nightly, but it works perfectly for me with very good performance.
