does rooting in windows void warranty ?
Rooting violates warranty in any and every phone...
That aside: there currently is no way of rooting a WP8 device.

Yea, I was going to say the same thing. You can't void you warranty if you cant root your device.....YET..
Here's a silly question, is someone currently working on a root or is all hope given up? Just asking.
Most people working on WP have tended to stay rather quiet until there was something concrete to anounce. But given that they deemed most of the original Lumias unhackable unless they came from the factory with an unlocked Bootloader (as some did due to an error in manufacturing) it is entirely possible they are not working on trying to break Secure Boot.
But in the end: we simply don't know.
No.
No one is working on anything. Fact is, no one is interested.
You pick your poison, work on Lumia or work on a HTC device, but fact is there aren't enough modders/developers with devices to support any effort if there is any to begin with. Each device would require a different method , and the fact this secure boot is so different only adds to the dilemma.

Valid points, though I wonder if heathcliffs Samsung gen2 unlock can be used or modified to work, I think it uses some Microsoft exploit in conjunction with the network setup apps

Fact matter is there is now begin to have a interest in WP. But you still look at there user base normal every day people I class WP like iphone yea they jailed break the phone but still most of the users would not have a clue to do that. Unlike android where it is open source and you have developer coming from every direction so it's easy to creak device after another. I love my 8x it's nice not to have that option to flash or unlock bootloader is a phone in the end of the day and that is what I have been looking for all this time

Couldn't have put it better myself. I prefer dev phones from google, tbh. But, that's just me.

Can someone explain why the Desire HD doesnt meet your needs?
Or is it the point of having the desired outer shell and being able to change OS's at your choosing?
...basically the HD2 syndrome...
Probably because they don't have a DesireHD, they have an HD7.

also, i was looking the the htc inspire. i'd like to dual boot wp7 and android on it. i'd like to know if this is possible. but i'm also worried about the batt life on it.

Would you settle for a Ford because the garage didn't have a Ferrari? That's the lamest excuse I've heard in a long time...
It's not Close mindedness, it's common sense. You want Android, get an Android phone. You want Dual Boot? Get a device capable of doing it.
Dual booting will become a reality for WP7 devices, it's only a matter of time. But creating Dozen's of threads on it isn't going to speed things up. If anything it'll slow it down.
My prediction is all of these WM6.5/Android threads will become redundant once Mango's released anyway, and people won't want to switch between OS's cos there'll be no point.

It is close mindedness, although I agree with the fact that if you wanted a Android he should have gotten an Android (I did, only reason I come to the HD7 forums is because my dad has one and I play with his). How did devices that are capable of dual booting come to be? It wouldn't have been possible if everyone was in mindset "I don't want that cause I have this".

I've been hearing good things about Mango and I think that WP7 will become a real competitor to iOS/Android once it comes out, until then however it is another story.
Who wouldn't want a device that can dualboot. It also preserves the life of the device in a sell/trade aspect.

I've seen exactly the same thing. The 1230 capacity battery on the Desire HD is way too small for a phone with 1ghz processor and the big screen.
The HD7 has the same specs of course, but because WP7 doesn't allow multitasking and background jobs the battery life isn't so much of an issue.

I saw a few root guides for sale on eBay. So, was wondering, is it a good idea? Is it legal?
What do you think devs? If I sell them, am I abusing your work?
Oh wow ... another Sri Lankan ... cool (I am one as well). I don't know about legality as the instructions on how to root phones are pretty much in the public domain. Then again it could be illegal if they are selling instructions/procedures/techniques which were developed by the developers on our fine and industrious forum.
My advice to you personally if you are thinking of selling a manual of sorts on rooting a certain phone, make sure you get permission from those who's work you will be referencing as well as make a sweet royalties deal with them so they can profit as well. But then again if you have come up with your own way of rooting that has not been mentioned here or anywhere, then you have all the right to publish your work and reap the rewards.
That's my 2 cents at least.

Well, thanks for the answer.
There is nothing illegal in selling public domain software. GNU allows you to resell stuff as long as you provide a link to source. I'm wondering about the legality of helping people root the phone and helping them remove restraints placed by the carrier. Like for example portable hotspot. As for the devs, I'm wondering about the morality of doing this.
And, yes I'm a Sri Lankan living in Sri Lanka. =)
I think it's legal. I'm seeing a lot of cellphone shops that does these things.

Depends on what you are doing. From what I understand, GPL licences can't be used commercially. Since XDA falls under GPL licensing...
On the other hand, if you came up with the guide and resources on your own entirely, you may have a claim on the content.
As for rooting guides, I suppose that if you have printed it out and have organized the guide well, it could be worth something. But the resources contained within must be from your own making (ie, the ROMs, the root method, etc.)
So, I don't think that rooting guides should be paid for.
On the other hand, you may charge someone for rooting services.

Well, the GPL allows you to monetize as long as you make the buyer aware that it comes with GPL.
I'd like to perform rooting services but it would be a bit hard to find people in my locality.

Two possibilities here:
You don't get much.
You are married.
Which is it?
Macs are just as susceptible to viruses as anything else. Always have been. They just aren't targeted as much. Apple even sells an antivirus, they just keep it hush hush.
While windows is Targeted much much more, you can be much better defended if you know what you are doing.
The next time someone tells you, "Macs don't get viruses", ask them, "Then why does Apple sell an antivirus?"

the post directly below the screen shot on their facebook says htc one jtag and communicating. That's not hacking.
If I remember right, I used them to repair a bricked HD2. It required being taken apart and the ROM flashed directly to the board. I think that was 40 bucks.
When I got it back the volume down stopped working. They claimed it was messed up when I sent it, which is partly true but it still functioned. When I got it back it didn't at all. They stopped responding to my questions and requests.
They got it working again but were a bit rude.. won't be using them again.

I don't understand why people are so heated about this, they're independent people who get to make their own choices. Android and open source in general have great traditions of devs doing their work for free, but that hardly means that every dev owes it to the community to work pro bono.
If you haven't donated to a dev on your own, you really shouldn't be offended about this.

If you want to understand why people are mad, you need to understand the culture a little better. Go read the GPL (and maybe other related open source licences). I'm not saying that it applies to this; just that open source is no where near as open as most people believe it to be.

Not necessarily, you don't make money if people aren't willing to pay. I can only assume that most people on forums like this are less likely to send there phone out to be s-offed,and just wait until one of these amazing devs posts a tutorial(once accomplished). If you mean they would make more money if they don't, by they are hoping people will brick there devices trying, then yes i agree then they would make a lot of money off of that. I do believe Share is Caring...unless its a completely original idea then charge.
