What launcher are you using now? Which launcher do you want to change it to?
I set the stock launcher to default and want to change it to helix but I have no idea how to change the setting on the stock launcher.
Ive used helix for a few minutes before switching back to launcher. Try starting helix from the applications list.from there you can set it as the default launcher I guess.there is no setting in the default launcher to disable it or close it if I recall. U need to start helix first.

Settings > Applications > Manage Apps. Find and select the launcher and it will give you info about it. One of the options should be "remove defaults". I'm running Desire so launcher isn't listed for me but give this a try and see if it works.
It's different if your default launcher is the launcher the phone came with since it is not listed in Manage Apps. What I ended up doing, was downloading a third launcher and only then was I able to get the prompt that ask which launcher to use.
Hi everyone.
I've been trying to keep from rooting my KF HD and decided to sideload some of my launchers from my GSII. But when I install ADW, GO and Nova they all install correctly but they don't show up in my app list except for ADW. And ADW opens fine and lets me customize the home screens and everything but I cant set it as the default home screen.
Can anyone help me or explain why this is happening.
Thanks
ADW is the only one that functions correctly on a non-rooted device. Don't have a reason why though, but apparently Amazon wanted to lock out alternative launchers.
If you root, you can put the launcher apk in system/app, install and can set the home button defaults. I personally got go launcher ex to function, though I believe others have managed to get other launchers to work.
Otherwise non-rooted, ADW will function but you can't change the defaults.

I just bought a Kindle Fire HD for my husband. I have rooted it and would like to change launchers. I HATE the carousel! I've sideloaded and installed Go Launcher ex and ADW Launcher Ex but neither seem to be permanent. Go launcher crashes and ADW is fine EXCEPT when touching the Home button then it reverts back to the kindle launcher. I REALLY don't like the Kindle home screen and would like a permanent fix. Any ideas and help would be appreciated
Try putting the apk if the launcher into the system / app folder.

Check this version and the permissions.

Thanks so much! You have no idea how relieved I am!:good:
Just an update, upon reboot my kindle lost the go launcher option once again but at least is not bricked anymore. I will wait for a permanent fix so I can use Go Launcher without it switching back when I hit the home button. thanks again
Just use an app like titanium backup or rom toolbox and find go launcher or adw launcher in the app list. There will be a setting to convert the app to a system app. You might need to long press on the app title to find the setting.
After it is converted to a system app, reboot. Then press the home button, you should be prompted to select a launcher in which you can set a default.

I use Go Launcher Tablet edition, what works for me was to get the ICS Google Gallery APK and move it to System/Apps folder using root explorer; then change permissions to rw-r-r and from the gallery set the image that i want to wallpaper, depending on what apps you have installed, there will pop another request for the crop app, use the same Google gallery in case it shows other apps.
good
It worked well, thank you very much.
Alternatively, you can download the app Backgrounds HD Wallpapers

So, my Kindle Fire HD 7 is not rooted, but I've sideloaded Google Playstore and used the Launcher Hijack program to have Apex Launcher as the default launcher. But now I can't put widgets on the desktop. Everytime I try, it sends me to the tablet's settings screen. What setting needs to be changed to use widgets?
