Hi all,
i'm wondering if anyone else experienced this: Every once in a while I notice that my cellular connection drops out (not just data connection, but completely with the little "x" in the notification bar). This happens maybe 2-3 times a day, but it really depends on how much I look at it. It doesn't matter if I'm connected to Wifi or not.
It usually comes back after a few seconds, but I can never be sure that the phone is not disconnected during standby, which is a little concerning...
From my Galaxy S2 I'm used to Radio/RIL crashes with custom ROMs, maybe this is something like that!?
I'm on T-Mobile Germany with a "normal" HSPA subscription (no LTE).
Did anyone else notice that on their phone?
Cheers,
Jan
i pretty much had the same issue, as well on custom ROMs (Trickdroid / RevolutionHD) as on stock ROM using Congstar (which is pretty much T-Mobile). I took out the SIM and cleaned it a bit, as i was thinking of some kind of hardware issue. But as i changed to ARHD 5.1 pretty much the same time, i don't know what of those did the trick. I did not recognize any dropouts since then. So i recommend cleaning the SIM a bit because it's never a bad idea and using ARHD because it's just one awesome rom. ;D
I'm also on congstar/T-Mobile. I already cleaned the SIM a bit, but it hasn't helped much. Maybe I should get some cleaning alcohol.... But it's strange, never had that problem with a SIM....

Android 4.1.2
Sense 5.0
Software version 1.28.401.7
Kernel 3.4.10
Baseband-Version 4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05L
Before anyone asks: This also happens with a perfect cell signal.
i'd recommend going to a 1.29 build. I'm not quite sure if it's a fix that came directly from HTC or if it's something mike did with his ARHD, but i never saw those dropouts again since then.
Well, I received the 1.29 OTA yesterday. Still the same problem ....
It also happens on my device with vodafone. I use ARHD 7.0 and latest radio. Signal disappears some seconds and thrn comes back slowly switching from edge to 3g to H and then back to lte. That is really annoying sometimes

I had this issue with my HTC One X, have a look at this thread. There might be some info in there.

You could also try selecting WCDMA Only under mobile data option in settings, this has improved signal.
Ok I enabled fastboot option. Maybe it makes a difference. WCDMA only is no option because I pay for LTE and want to use it

My SGS has Poor Signal reception in Most areas where, Other Phones have around 3-4 bars. On my SGS Calls drop, and sometimes, It says No Service as well. This happens in Areas which are far from a cellular tower.
I use 3G, and even switching to GSM only doesnt help in most cases.
Anything I should try :?
Using In Sri Lanka, Dialog GSM. Using JVR, with JVO Modem. Tried the ZSJPG Modem as well, same problem.
flash JVT baseband. It drains battery little more but has better signal. From my experience.
I had similar problem in UK, flashed ICS and is getting better now

yeah I think I noticed a bit of a difference on onecosmic's ICS port here in aus
Thanks heaps for the replies guys,
But ICS Port is still a wip isnt it ?
I'd wait till it completes and comes out of the testing stages.
Also, I think that this might be a hardware issue as well, so thinking of
taking the phone apart, and replacing the antenna material with something more sensitive / conductive.
Lets see how it goes..
You could try the 3g tweak script from thunderbolt, worth a try!

Thanks Guys, I just sold the damned Phone. It was a headache.
What's the use of it If i cant make calls at home.
Thanks folks !
Hello, first of all I apologise that I didn't bother to read through more than 3 pages of Q&A before asking. Also my English is horrible, I know.
So basically my GF has her Note N7000 International version aaaand she somewhat has a habit to drop it (2 times a month or so, lol). Now after latest drop and SIM change WIFI and 3G started behaving really wierd. Strangely enough, 3G works on some paid apps and internet but when trying to stream video or use internet share via WiFi it fails. Just says Error in settings.
Now I elimimated the SIM change as a problem since everything works 100% on her old Galaxy Gio.
Any ideas? I'm not familiar with Samsung devices in any way
Oh and everything is 100% stock with latest OTAs.

Been using my HTC One now since it's release day and although I wasn't a huge fan when it came out, it's grown on me like moss and i'm now 100% confident that I made the right choice in getting this instead of the S4.
However......
On my daily commute to work, a journey I've been taking for over two years now, I seem to have less signal than all the phones before this one ?
It's the same sim card, same number and the same network.
What happens is the signal will go really low to around 1 - 2 bars and the mobile data connection will teeter around Edge and 3G and come back up to H in parts.
My previous handset as you can see from my signature was a galaxy s3, it didn't ever drop below 3G, was mostly on H and never once went to Edge, on the same trip for well over a year, I've also used an EVO 3D which acted in the same manner as the S3, but the HTC One is really annoying me now as I'm not able to check things on the internet and such, which I've been able to do for as I said a few years now on previous handsets.
I'm currently on Venom rom 1.2.1 and I have an Orange Sim card in the UK.
My baseband is 4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05L
I did try another Radio, however it had little impact on the reception and I was just wondering if anyone else had witnessed similar drops in signal quality themselves?
I'm using a case too, I have three, Double dip flip, Double dip and a silicone case, I've also had the phone without a case and it makes no difference at all.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
same problm
I'm in the US , recently unlocked my but but mine all of the sudden drops from 4 bars to no signal. I have noticed that while I have WiFi on, the network signal seems more stable. I've been reading a lot of ppl have the same problm.
I am on TMo in London. When I first got the phone my signal was awesome. I had H with 3 plus bars all the time all the way from home to work, in work, at home. Since the update I have the exact same issue as you. I lose signal completely, it goes to E a lot of the time now. All in all a very poor experience. I was thinking of installing the original radio to see if that would do the trick(I think it was mentioned that the new update had a new radio). I just do not want to root and lose my warranty. I am getting pretty p'd off though so may just take the plunge

I'm in the same boat with you guys. My signal varies a lot from H+ to 3G and E and few times is just disappearing completely, taking a good 1-2 minutes until it comes back. I tried like 4 different radios, all with the same behavior.
I'm on GE 4.3 ... stock.
issue solved

I was also facing the same issue. Finally realized that it was because my network setting was on GSM or WCDMA i.e. 3G.
I changed my network to 2G and everything is fine.
try this out.
same issue!!
Is it possible 2b a Hardware problem !
For those who have the device, how does your wifi signal strength compare. Sitting at my desk, I get no bars now where on my OneX I got 2 or 3.

Same issue here on a phone from O2 with the latest software installed.
Compared to an iphone 5 struggles to hang onto signal. Tried both bands as well, same issue.
I can see my work wifi in a location I frequent with previous phones.
I can connect and use it even though it gives me just a dot for the signal. other phones struggle in this same location.
Perhaps try turning off Wifi power saving in the settings

yeah its pretty bad for me. next room and i'm down to "1 bar" when on all of my other devices i'd get 4 or 5
guys from what I've seen don't go by the little signal strength indicator on the notification bar as it doesn't really reflect what's actually happening, I had a XZU for a few weeks and a Z before that, I can pick up wifi connections on both the XZU and Z1 were the Z was out of range, I was sitting in a bar last night connected to a wifi AP that was about 100m away and there are structures and people in-between, the Z1 is as good as the ZU when connecting to wifi and both are better than the Z

Wifi on my Z1 C6903 seems really poor.
Connected to 5Ghz on a dual band wifi router situated in the tv room. I don't get any connectivity from my room which is around 10m away.
I used to get decent connectivity on my iphone 5 - speedtest of around 14mbps. I can't even connect to speedtest on my Z1.
On a sidenote - what is with the headphone button not working. Had to update to .534 after much googling. Also, the new firmware doesn't help the wifi issues. Who knows how long we'll have to wait for a fix ...which may or may not improve it.
Also, did try to turn off the wifi power saving "feature" as well. Didn't do much.
Anyways that's my feedback.
same here! very bad connection with the xperia z1.
Yep poor wifi performance, I hope we get a software fix soon
Same here, disconnects from wifi a lot.

In OP, I said compared to my previous phone. Also, have trouble with mobile data being very slow. With that being said, I have moved provider to EE but they are supposed to have decent coverage.
Not sure now whether to return and get a new one or get the Notes 3 instead.

You might want to move to 4G... EE 3G is so slow... I get 10 times the speed I used to get on EE 3G now that I'm on EE 4G...

Basically it is rubbish so far. The signal and speed is not as good as other devices.
Interested in hearing more from people who say it is fine.
Fine compared to what? Can you give examples?
---------- Post added at 04:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ----------
As an example between Z1 and a 5S.
Same router, same distance.
Speedtest.net app on each phone.
Z1
Ping: 248ms
Down: 0.42
Up: 1.25
5S
Ping: 45ms
Down: 17.49
Up: 2.5
(I have around 20mbit fibre with around 3-4mbit up)
How frustrating, I was looking at upgrading to this phone, and reading most of the posts floating around I am having huge deja vu experiences with the newly launched Xperia Z and the pains associated with being some of the first. I feel for you all.
While we are talking WIFI, anyone tested the 802.11ac bands?

I did a proper test yesterday. Closed my living room door (living room is where router is) and closed my own room's door... Got plenty of signal and about 33Mb/s which is good considering my connection is a 50Mb/s one.. Get about 48 on my laptop which is very near router...Don't see any issues here

Hi kart_man, I'm also having GPS fix issues, which I suspect are antenna related. How did you fix your problem? Did you do it yourself, and it's so, could you outline what you did?
Thanks!
Hmm my wife has maximal 4 from 12 satellites and an accuracy from 40 meters. I think it the same Problem

I had this problem after replacing my Xperia Z screen (having smashed it by walking into a table). The fix was slow and pretty inaccurate. I pulled the back off the phone again and took out the GPS antenna, wiped the terminals, jiggled it and put it back in. The GPS significantly improved, going from very inferior to my Nexus 5 to being as good. Prior to wiping the terminals, the GPS performance was the same with or without the antenna inserted.
Last night I fell of my bicycle and my phone took a bit of a knock, and the GPS performance seems to have dropped again. I am still testing it out, but it looks like simply cleaning the terminals isn't helping this time so I've ordered a new GPS antenna (which will take 3-4 weeks to arrive from China).
I will update when I receive and install it in case others find the info useful.
dident work for me
I ordered a gps antenna the big black bit at the top and a antenna for the 3g and network replaced both and it has not made a difference for me??
u any luck

I did the same, and it made no difference (I think). Based on that, I concluded that the original antenna was fine.
I have experimented with different ROMs, different gps.conf files, and a range of other minor things. What I have found in the end is that for one reason or another, the stock 4.4.4 seems to give me better GPS performance than other ROMs. I couldn't say why, but it seems to be the case. I was testing using Multirom, so it is possible that the different kernels used somehow interfered with the GPS performance, but I am by no means sure that was the case.
The performance was also much better after the first lock (which makes sense, because the first time it is doing a cold start so needs to get AGPS data and so on).
In the end, I just keep checking GPS Test (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&hl=en) frequently and looking.
The GPS performance seems *ok*, but the orientation detection in non-stock ROMs is awful (and not amazing even with stock ROMs). I have basically given up using my Xperia Z as a driving GPS because my Nexus 5 is so much better for that same thing.
Actually, the Nexus 5 GPS just seems a lot better overall, for one reason or another. It isn't just the gps.conf because I tried using the Nexus 5 settings on the Xperia Z.
