hey guys,
i have been hyped about the HTC one since announcement, but yesterday a friend of mine told me 2 reasons to get the s4 instead that had me thinking:
1. SD card expansion, claims 32GB will not be enough and 64GB is not available in my region
2. Mainstream, in my region S4 will have more accessories, easier support than HTC
I love the HTC one but i am not sure if i must go with a brave choice that i love or a safe choice that i don't hate
ideas ?
many dev's complained about Samsungs new way of not supporting mods or custom roms. In contrary, HTC (and especially the Snapdragon 600) offer great support for the modding scene.
Apart from that, i personally dislike the whole 5"-hype. 4,7" is my personal maximum, otherwise i'd feel like i'd talk to a brick in my hands. I won't talk about the obvious things like the awesome screen, boomsound and the build quality for now, because there are more than enough reviews about that everywhere.
When it comes to storage, i personally don't care about having the option of using any SD-card. I had a 16 GB SD in my Galaxy S2 before and never used it's full capacity, so i don't think i'll fill up the internal storage of my One ever.
If you got a Samsung your just be getting the same old thing i had a note 2 good phone but not a scratch on the one its a pretty awesome phone
There are many possible remedies if you suffer from lack of storage: cloud storage & USB OTG (OTG cable or microsd card reader).
I've seen a ton of accessories for the One already. Of course, Samsung is more well-known than HTC, so there are probably more accessories made for it, but how many accessories do you need for one phone? (As this is my first HTC phone, I'm not well versed in their support department, so I'll let someone else answer that.)
Ultimately, it comes down to what you want in a phone. There are pros and cons to every phone. You won't find "the perfect phone" because it doesn't exist. Your personal likes and usage pattern should determine which phone you get.
Really there is no way to convince anyone. My recommendation is to go into a shop and try them both and see which one you like. Each device has it's pros and cons depends on personal preference. Good luck.

Hah! I won't try to talk you out of anything , it's YOUR MONEY!!
instead , you should ask yourself how you plan to use it.
1.Only when you stockpile lots and lots of musics or videos in your phone, and NEVER delete them, then you will need an extra SD card.
32GB is definitely enough for most people. OTG and cloud are good options , but lets not get too much into them, assuming you don't plan to use them. I can even live with my 16G nexus 7...
2.True. but I always keep my phone naked so it's nothing to me really. I am sure you could find a nice accessory anyway, just not as much choices as S4.
not choosing ONE also means you have to give up the good feeling in your hand, eye-candy looks, incredibly good stereo...(no, I don't mean BEAT). It's not a life-risking choice you know? 90% users could be happy with both.
I can understand that someone direly need SD / removable battery. it just not matters that much to me.
htc one has the best unique design.
Buy an S4 and the kitten gets it!

S4 will be no better than the One. The screen will be poop, the camera will be ok, the UI will be poop, the audio from the speaker will be poop, the design will be poop, the software will be bloated with rubbish you don't need that you'll constantly have to turn off, you'll have to buy a case to hide it, you'll feel like you bought an S3 and no one will know you've upgraded.
HTC One is just smooooth and very cool.

We just got our first batch of SD cameras for the XDA PocketPC phone and it sold out fast!
We will receive another batch before the end of the month, so you may want to order one today before those are gone too.
With this SD camera YOU DON'T NEED SDIO, so it works perfectly with the XDA. You can even record video!

it dont seem to stay secured in the slot!
a regular sd card locks-in, but IT slides right out, even
after u here that little click, when u push it in.
any idea why?
other than that, its very nice!
i hope they make a 1.3/2.1 mp soon

I was almost considering ordering one of these, but the camera has no flash, which is the problem with a lot of the camera phones.
A friend pointed out if I were to spend $80 for it, I might as well put in a little bit more money and get a cheap digital camera.
Basic line is this. Camera phones are finally evolving and new ones come with a flash. To be honest, you REALLY need a flash with these things.
I just saw a tiny camera at Fry's that does video, 1MP stills, has flash, and a built-in display LCD. $90. Might as well just get that and swap the card into the XDA if you want to copy/send photos. This camera is too little for too much. It's too big to really be any particular space saver. Is it even safe to carry around in the device all the time (couldn't it release and fall out if bumped)?
i have one of these, paid £59 from ebay, but it doesnt lock into the sd slot. any advice on making it stay in or it will get lost.
Smallboy... why not try the bodger's favourite... a small wodge of "blue tac"! - this works for me for my tom-tom car cradle (along with a couple of screws at the bottom of the cradle)
Theoretically you could place the blue tac between the xda body and camera, which would give it some "grip" but yet easily removable.
not a bad idea m8, but i use the sd slot with a 256mb card for my navigator maps and mp3's
SD camera for XDA

***PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK IF YOU VIEW***I know most of you on here know all ths stuff already, but this is my post i'm broadcasting on the various forums i am a part of. anyone that is interested, don't hesitate to pM or post, this is no joke or scam or anything, just trying to get this thing gone. don't be afraid to offer, whats the worse that could happen?***
This is one of AT&T's flagship phones. In my opinion, this is the best phone available one the market today, beating the Xperia X1, iPhone, etc.
I've always been a phone freak, and I do EXTENSIVE research before purchasing a new one. I've been dealing with HTC phones for over 3 years now, and I've never had a desire to go with another company. I love windows mobile and all the cool things you can do with it. The list of programs and applications is endless.
The phone has a GPS receiver built right into it, and I loaded TomTom 7 on it, making it a fully functional GPS unit. It also features a 3.2MP camera with a super bright flash, built in FM tuner, business card reader, mp3 player, picture and video viewer, and lots of other great things. Windows Mobile 6.1 works flawlessly on this phone, thanks to the OEM HTC ROM I flashed on this FUZE, essentially making it a HTC Touch Pro.
The new Touch Flo 3D interface is something to behold. This phone is absolutely beautiful, from it's high resolution VGA screen to its "diamond cut body" and perfect form factor.
I bought this phone for over $500, and I have to say, it was worth every penny. I'm selling it cheap, so don't miss out on this sweet oppurtunity. Thanks alot for reading, and happy buying.
Please no low balls, I'd prefer cash but may consider trades. I accept paypal and money orders. Due to my low feedback, I will work with you as far as shipping arrangements go. I will provide contact information upon payment, and provide confirmation numbers and information upon receiving.
Pictures!

Why would you sell if you love it this mutch? Dunno if this forum is designed for selling Phones.
i need cash quick.. got in a pretty bad car accident and I have zero transportation, gotta pay my car insurance. I bought a piece of **** car for $300, and i don't think it would be cool to have a cell phone that is worth more than my car.

Hi, I live in South America, I have a brother who lives in the US and I'll be travelling soon so I was planning on upgrading my S3 and after some research I was very excited about asking him to buy me the One Developer edition.
Today I started reading here about all the quality problems that plague HTC's incredible release (gaps, scratches/dents, dead/stuck pixels, speaker problems) and I'm a bit worried because if the phone is defective or breaks afterwards I won't be able to replace it, so now I'm thinking of buying the S4, which now I think is a safer bet, but sadly it was also a safer bet from Samsung's part and I really liked the more ambicious approach that HTC made.
What do you guys think? Would you buy the One knowing that you wouldn't be able to replace it in case it is defective or breaks shortly after buying it?
Thanks.

It's cos he's in a completely different continent that he can't send it back.... Did you even read the first sentence??
I have never heard of any of those issues. One dude did post about their speaker not working, but that's the 1st case I've seen of it. I read a lot of tech blogs and I haven't see them post about arising issues.
So I feel you'll be safe. But then again, I've only read about the carrier versions and not the Dev. Editions. Why do you feel the S4 is a safer bet? Have you not read about any issues with it? What about the 16GB version only have barely 8GB of actual usable storage? LoL!!
All the problems I mentioned are from threads here im xda, and it seems that there are lots of people that have them, especially the stuck pixels problem.
They are not problems of the Dev edition, they are of the One in general.
I have read about people complaining about S4 cracked screens, but there aren't many cases considering the amount of S4s sold and it also can't be said that they are caused because of manufacturing or design problems, I also have the (maybe wrong) impression that Samsung being so much bigger and wealthier has more capacity to overengineer and exhaustively test their phones, every review talks about the HTC having a better build quality, but that only refers to the case material and not the real build quality which can't be tested just by touching it.
The storage is one of the S4 main disadvantages, but now I have a 16GB S3 with a 64GB microSD and it's not so bad, only problem is not being able to have many 1gb+ games
You'll be fine. This website is only a very tiny fraction of the total user base, and then only a few people from this website even had major problems.
those people talking about stuck or dead pixels are being to anal. most of the time you will never even know they are there unless you use an app that tests them. 468ppi on this phone. ive seen the stuck pixels thread and if you really want to complain about 1 or 2 pixels then you have never owned an lcd tv there is an allowance in the warranty for dead pixels and 1 or 2 will not get you a new tv
Show me a phone a month after its release with absolutely -0- *****es about anything being wrong with it. Its impossible. Everything has some percent of problems.
Well.. ok, I think you convinced me, it also helped that 20 minutes ago my 2 months old S3 fell from my desk to the floor and this is how it looks now:

The plastic housing and all glass front is too fragile, I don't tend to drop my phone that's why it doesn't have a case, but with these phones you drop it once and you are done
It heard you talking about buying an HTC as your next phone. So it hurled itself off the desk as a half hearted attempt at sympathy. Ive seen it a million times. Dont fall for it.
You probably decreased the odds of having one of these problems just by opening a thread on XDA wondering about these problems! XDA is a small community and remember HTC said they sold 5 million of these devices. Just don't actively look for a problem. If you do, you'll find one
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
you know, I just had to vent about this today. On Android blogs HTC seems to get way more flack and criticism that other OEMs do not receive. I believe HTC is far more transparent and listens to customer criticism. Let me provide some examples I can think of:
1. A frequent complaint of many Android users is that the speakers didn't sound as good as the iPhone's speakers. HTC provided us with wonderful speakers, yet fanbois (mainly Samsung ones) waived their hands dismissively because ultra small bezels are worth sacrificing great sound quality. People ALWAYS complained saying they had to cup their hand in the back of their phone speaker to hear anything in a loud environment. HTC delivered and people blew them off.
2. People constantly complained that Sense UI was a laggy beast. HTC finally fixed this problem with the original M7 and nobody cared. Previously I switched from an Evo 3D to a Galaxy S2 which is arguably one of my favorite Samsung phones because it had literally zero lag at the time on Gingerbread and that's how I preferred it. Once they went to Ice Cream Sandwich I haven't enjoyed a Samsung phone since due to lag and RAM constraints, as well as storage constraints. Of course since Samsung can do no wrong the lag is a hallucination of the user and their phone is defective, or it just "doesn't matter." Yet when it was HTC it was such a big issue. Why the double standard?
3. Fanbois constantly whined that the M7 didn't have an SD card. In the M8 they put one in, yet people still find ways to dismiss the phone and hate on it.
4. People complained the iPhone took superior night photo's, so HTC provided us with the ultra pixel camera which in my opinion took the best low light photos (you could actually see what you took a picture of, unlike most phones which you could barely make anything out.) It wasn't the best quality but it really did shine for someone like me who enjoys taking photos and videos in the club/bar scene where other phones simply couldn't compete. Daylight photos are another thing. I'll give the competition that one.
5. People complained about ultra pixels not being good enough for them, so it appears that HTC has went back to megapixels for their back camera ( at least in the E8) and has even improved the front facing camera far beyond the competition! The rumored HTC Hima camera specs seem amazing, yet I'm sure the fanboys will find a way to dismiss a great phone again.
6. People also complained about how ugly and unoriginal Android phones are. HTC provides a great phone that looks sleek and sexy and often gets compliments from friends. Other OEM fanboys state that aluminum is a gimmick and that phones should be plastic. The biggest complaint though is that there isnt a removable back for a spare battery. I'd be willing to bet my life there even if this were implemented people would still complain and dismiss this phone.
I really don't get it. HTC listens to the complaints that people present, yet when they fix the issues they award the company by buying Samsung or other OEM phones. What the hell?
Why do I get the feeling someone is looking for big drama??? Sure smells like it in this thread... BTW that's not to say I don't agree with what you've said... But honestly who gives a flying fart
I'm gonna shut this down before it turns into a poop storm
I do agree with most of what you said...but it most likely will turn ugly very quickly.

After watching the video and seeing the pictures, I am not interested in this. Looks bulky and cumbersome. Then you have to buy and store/carry modules with you. Not for me, I prefer simple. Guess that's why no one posted yet.

I agree. This whole thing looks like a USB hub with some repackaged phone parts. In some ways this is nice and I like how simple they made this, but it is more aimed at the average user. It is a cheaper version of Phone Blocks. I hate this fad of thin phones, but that doesn't mean I want a brick.
I can't tell what it is, you didn't bother to include that in your post. I'm not going to watch a video without knowing what the topic is, only to find out I'm not interested and just wasted my time.
Signature edited to appease the OCD's
I voted for it to help you out, but honestly I don't know I would ever use it unless it was really cheap. And even then I would probably only use it for battery and storage with other phones too (like in future I know g4 has these already). Not sure what else I would use with it.
For me this is a pretty gimmick, I don't see it selling well at all.
Now the actual phones which come with this sort of tech will be amazing, I mean who wouldn't want to buy a base unit and then specifically make a device for YOU!

I like it, it's kind of cute and simple but don't think a lot of people would be interested.. IMHO, i wasn't even sure what it was all about at first..
two words, ugly.pointless.
Great idea. Some I would use but it does add a lot of bulk to the phone. This might be good for iPhone since not much gets upgraded with each iteration. ? lol
This looks like a pretty cool idea, but as a third-party addon, probably it wouldn't be great. I imagine it'd be fairly delicate (cheap plastic) and not integrate well. Also, the one shown here is rather ugly.
Now, if this became sort of a standard thing, it'd be really cool. Same idea as Phone Blocks I guess, but I like this design a bit better (except for the colours). Have a raised "hub" in the middle with slots to plug things into, hotswappable. So you could e.g. just upgrade the camera, have two cameras for 3D photos, plug in extra batteries, lend one to your friend if they're running low, remove things like bluetooth if you never use them, or add new stuff like NFC if your phone didn't come with it.
let's just wait til project ARA reached mass production.
What's this.. i'm curious will it actually get realized.. huh..
